The Reduced Price Guide FAQ/OP has been moved to the SECOND post.

Below is SIX MONTHS or so(counting January 2010) of guide drop info. If you want to see the full list, please refer to the second post of the Reduced Price Guide Thread X that can be found HERE .

CE/SE/LE=HARDCOVER GUIDE
Red=Gamestop drop
Blue=Best Buy drop

I did good today, got 12 guides from that new drop, or maybe a couple from previous drops too as well. But either way I got 12 guides, thanks for the update with the new drop, did really good on it

Hell, if the Gamestop dumpster wasn't shared by a Moe's restaurant, I'd be dumpster diving too. (I'd rather not step in half eaten burritos looking for game guides. :p)
 
Got a bit lucky after striking out at two GSs but had been chewed up a bit due to the wire racks. Picked up WoW: Cataclysm and InFamous 2. Only really wanted InFamous 2 and Fallout NV CE. Better one than none.

The only GS store around here to NOT share a dumpster with a Subway or other nasty place closed just recently. Funny thing is, they closed that one and opened a new one about a mile from my house in a new WalMart plaza.:whistle2:#
 
I was in Best Buy right around closing earlier and as I left I saw an employee with a clipboard in his hand standing in the guide aisle looking at the guides.. Possible pre-pull for a drop tomorrow?
 
Unfortunately one of our sources at BB no longer works there, so we have to rely on them either putting the penny price up on the site for whichever guides are dropping or hope that someone will go to BB at opening tomorrow and have some stuff scanned to see if there's been a drop or not.

I nominate you, since you seem to like to speculate about a drop when there hasn't been one.:booty: So hop to it.;) Go camp out in front of BB and get in there right at opening tomorrow morning and scan everything in sight.:razz:

Was driving back from out of town and stopped at a GS, they had a few guides out on the shelf that I knew had pennied out. Brought them to the counter and the guy rung them up and flipped out, saying his employees were supposed to pull these and he isnt even supposed to sell them. He then asked me "well what do you want to do?" I was like... um I would like to get them lol

I pointed out the other 4 or 5 guides that were still out on the shelf that were pennied as well, as I only wanted two I grabbed for games I had. Needless to say you could tell he was pissed but let me have them.

Checked my local one today and found MK CE guide, grabbed it and employee said it was for another employee, which then said "take it, I don't even have the game"

So win x2
 
I remember last year scoring about 50 penny guides at one best buy and carried them back home about a mile away...thought my arms were gonna fall off lol.

Edit - would have combined posts but am on my phone and doesn't let me.

I'm surprised the ME2 guide is still up. There isn't a store anywhere in my state who has it.

There's a few in NJ or NY state that have it still.;) But those stores are way far out there.

I sincerely doubt anything will drop tomorrow that will be of use to me and/or I'll be too late to get them, since they have been pre-pulling for the most part at the BB stores around here.

It was around 3 AM EST the guides got changed in August if anyone cares.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on it as I am off work on mondays and have a best buy less than a mile away.

... when you say "changed" ... they actually dropped to $0.01 on the site, or they just dropped from the site entirely?

They were dropped to $0.01 around then.
 
I got a few from the last BBY drop, but how many were able to get them online? Did anyone have problems getting their orders fulfilled?

as it stands I've had zero luck finding penny guides locally in a long time

I placed 2 orders, 1 order with the guides I really wanted and then went back and ordered a couple of others that weren't as important. The first order shipped, the 2nd order was cancelled.
 
The Battlefield 3 guide is half off ($9.99) on the Best Buy website if anyone is interested.

Edit: The collectors edition is $24.99 (Normally $39.99) also.
 
^Definitely not a bad price for a guide for a game that isn't even out yet. I don't think I could use a guide for a shooter though, it would take all the fun out of it.

Cool, hopefully I'll be able to get some online if there's a drop today. I don't think I'll be able to get out tomorrow to hunt them down.
 
I'll give it another hour, then give up for the night.

It's also possible BB is going to pull a GS and wait on updating their website until the day AFTER the drop
 
That could be. Although I just did a search for the AC: B CE(using the SKU swap trick) and it's showing in stock at one BB while OOS at the other. I think it was in stock at both last time I was to either, but I'm not 100% sure.

Either way I'm going to bed. I'll check this thread at 8:30-9am when I get up.:razz:

Cool, didn't notice the CE was that price. Don't want it though...
 
Checked Duke Nukem, Homefront, Dragon Age 2, and Fallout New Vegas at the local BBY this morning and all guides rang up full price.

I checked the CE/LE versions of the above guides. Looks like no drop today.

I use the Shopkick app which makes me feel slightly less pathetic for being in Best Buy on a daily basis.

Sorry, I just grabbed some of the older LE/CEs and had them scan them at the front register. My BBY doesn't have self scanners and there were no blue shirts to be found in the gaming section. When the guides I brought up rang up at full price I didn't bother checking any others because I was running a bit late. I'm not even sure if my store had AC:B CE. I didn't even look for 3rd Birthday when I was picking out guides to have scanned.

From the looks of the guide rack it didn't look like anything had been pulled. I have to think some type of drop is coming soon though because there was no room at all on the guide shelf at my local store.
 
Pro-tip:
Remember to check gamestop by Monday night at the latest; new release guides need space to be put on display, so employees will probably catch any leftover guides on new release Tuesday mornings.
