Rei no Otaku gets the hat trick with General Gaming Thread #9!

I like the control pad, but I take Rei's point about the few seconds after switching on a 360 you spend wondering if it's going to die or not.

Not ideal.

I've only had one RRoD on me, but due to the widespread nature of the problem it's always going to be in the back of your mind.

Sad thing is with the 300+ games I've got if my current 360 dies I'd just go straight out and buy another.
I'd buy the games again if they get ported. I hate using my 360.
I'd only get ME2 for the PS3 if they ported the first as well. Which seems pretty unlikely at this point. Besides I think my laptop could run ME2...

Holy shit...
Rei how long is RTO?
About an hour and a half to two hours.

Notice I said games, plural.
Nah, I'm on my 4th 360 and I get nervous every time I turn it on. Plus there's the whole controller comfort thing. 360 controller doesn't do it for me.
Ah fair enough. I've been lucky *knocks on wood*. Have a pre falcon model I bought in late 2007 and haven't had any issues. It's the model with the added heat sink, but the chip before the Falcon.

And I vastly prefer the 360 controller since I mostly play shooters and prefer the triggers and offset analog sticks for shooters. The d-pad sucks, but I play no genres that need it so its moot for me.

I'm afraid to talk about my experiences with the 360's known issues.

I just got my fifth Xbox 360 yesterday.

1. Original non HDMI that got RROD but sold
2. Falcon Elite - planning to sell
3. Japanese Aracde
4. RE5 Red Eliete - primary system now
5. Aracade Xbox 360 pre NXE :)

I'm on my fourth 360 and still waiting on microsoft to fix their fuckup on my system being shipped back in pieces.. it has been over two months now since I got rrod. Last time I shipped it they were suppose to replace it but they got it and shipped it right back with a letter saying "Hey its broke! Have fun." - Microsoft or so it seemed.. I called pretty pissed and demanded whoever was the highest up at the time and they gave me the main specialist which is working with me on getting this issue fixed.. UGH.

I'm still debating what romance option to take in ME2 for this main play through.

1. Miranda. That's the furthest along. And she is the hottest option IMO.

2. Tali. Don't dig the quarian "hot wise", but she's a cool character and was a mainstay in my party in ME1 (along with Liara).

3. Neither. Apparently if you don't do a romance at the end your character will look longingly at the picture of your ME1 love interest in the captains deck. Which gets turned face down if you start a new romance--implying there's a chance to keep the ME1 romance going in ME3 if you don't start a new one. Would be Liara for me. I was pretty disappointed that you couldn't get her in your party in ME2. Seems like the two romantic options from the first game should be permanent squad members.
300+ games?
This including XBLA?
Yeah, I've not counted for a while but I've got about 250+ boxed games and about 60-70 xbla games.

Oh shiiiiiii... 250 boxed games. That's crazy. ;)
You gotta admit, there's a lot of crap in there right?

hehe, I have about 150 boxed games for PS3 and 360 combined, and I know I have some trash.

I've had 2 360's, and I'm on my 3rd right now. If it dies, I'm getting it repaired, selling it and I'm not going to continue with the Xbox brand. That's how I originally planned it, and that's how it's going to be.

I don't have 300+ games, though. I have about 150 I guess, and that's crossing DS, PSP, Wii, 360 and PS3.

I got rid of all my old games over the past few years and no longer keep a collection and ditch most on Goozex once beating them.

So I currently have 9 360 games, 4 XBLA games, 2 Gamecube games (Zelda Collection and Zelda OOT--need to get around to selling them), and 6 or so DS games (3 here, my girlfriend has some at her place with my old DS Phat, can't remember how many she has for sure).

I honestly dont think PS3 will get any ME games till the third is out. Then, EA will sell a trilogy package on both consoles and PC.

I think I'm on my third 360 :whistle2:#

 you people with crazy amounts of boxed games >_<

I think I currently own 4 boxed 360 games? I seriously don't believe in holding on to games unless they mean something to me other than being just a video game.

I still have my 360 chocobo code to sell but I'm genna wait till it gets closer to release date.

Does anyone have the list of what the prestige medals in MW2 are awarded for in real life. I've scoured the internets but to no avail. any help would be appreciated!

That probably depends on the deal Bioware had with MS for ME1.

Oh yeah, a load of crap games in there. I'm sure no-one would believe the 360 had 250+ awesome games, or any console for that matter.

Even with a lot of bias that would be one hell of a claim.

Damn, that's a lot of 360 games. I don't own near that many, although I did trade/sell a bunch that I was no longer playing or interested in.

I would so have made that claim back when I was a kid, I think the N64 has the most awesome gaming library I've ever played.

I would totally buy ME1/2 on PS3. Especially if they made them a box set.

And on the topic of 360s, I've only had one to my self (launch model) and it's RRoD'd twice now, both within the span of seven months (Last January then again in June). At least they send me another refurbed console pretty quickly.

you play it what, once a year? that's why.

i'm on number 3.
numbers 1 & 2 died after 10-14 months of use.

I'm still on my first 360. Its a zephyr I think.

I had forgotten how obnoxious some parts of the original God of War are. The only time I've died are during the stupid instant death sections.

The worst thing in that whole game is the fucking spike puzzle. It's so unforgiving, it always takes me at least 5 tries. :( The rest isn't too bad -- I usually end up breezing through the spiked columns in Hades.

welp, ordered FFXIII 360. Swallowin' my pride on 3/9/10. I had a $25 gc and you get the $10 credit, so even if I don't like it, it won't be a huge loss. Just hope the 360 version is not super gimped somehow...kind of annoying that they haven't showed it at all and the game is about a month away from release. Which is weird in itself-- FFXIII is actually coming out in 5 short weeks.

He's got a lot invested in this.
That, and he's not getting Yakuza 3 instead...
you play it what, once a year? that's why.
Ah hale naw!
Haha, though I did go about 2-3 months without using it once.
Inbetween retail games I do like to use it for XBLA and Indie games.
Just bought a couple OG Xbox games to try out later as well.
Why's playing a game "swallowing your pride"?
I just feel like I buy FF games on day 1 out of habit or something.

but your review was a nice positive offset to the knee-jerk reactions to the game. I was playing through FFX when FFXIII launched (and through the subsequent backlash) and it seemed like all the negative impressions were describing a game just like FFX-- linear almost all the way through up until the end and it even has a sphere grid type system.
He's got a lot invested in this.
I don't even own a 360. it's just for NPD+1 in hopes that I can watch meltdowns on gaf.

Poor Yakuza 3. Of all the months SEGA could release it... they choose the same month as God of War 3 and FF13.

Haha.
Oh man, that will be a glorious NPD. I can't even guess which version will win.
Typically "PS Brand" games do pretty well on PS3 and the numbers get close (DMC4, SFIV), but that 360 userbase is hard to beat. (i think only Tekken has done so)

Ah well, I'm sure the 360 version plays just fine. I didn't hear complaints from the people who played it on the "FFXIII" bus that was/is going around.

The ones where the spikes come out of the floor after you pull the lever took me about 8 tries this time. The section in the temple where you walk across the rafters with the spinning blades took me even more.

I remember the spinning blades from the first time I played through on PS2, I'm not looking forward to it this time.

I hear you. I may pick up the US version down the road - if I do, it'll be the 360 version. I doubt it will be any different - well, in a "real world" sense. There will be thousands of words spilled over whether Fang's ass is jaggier in this version or that one, or this one screenshot that proves this version is running at 715p and the other 720p - wringing of hands over the dumbest shit. That's what we do, after all.

Poor Yakuza? Blame Sega, they did this knowing full well what a month March is. I preordered it from GS when they had a $7 coupon bringing the shipped total to about $51. Best part is the "preorder bonus DLC" they offer - which, if it's like any other bonus pre-order DLC I've gotten from GS in the past, will be freely available for anyone to download on day one.

Am I the only one who's simply not interested in Bioshock 2? I was really into the idea, but the game's release is 6 days away, and suddenly I'm not only not interested in grabbing it at release, I really feel like I could wait until it's $15 or less to buy it. It doesn't make any sense to me at all, but I truly couldn't care about it right now. Maybe the emphasis on MP in a game whose entire ambient experience centers around isolation? Thanks for fuckin' that up, you and Dead Space 2.

Is it a terrible idea to keep a PS3 slim on a wood surface?

I recently moved mine onto this little wooden table, and the bottom feels extremely hot. I just elevated it with a couple dvd cases.

I don't care about bioshock 2 either. It feels like a bad movie sequel. Like the matrix reloaded or some shit.

I'm still not sure about MAG. I'd have to buy a headset.. and bluetooth headsets sound like shit..

I want to say I'll pass on FFXIII but I'll probably get it. I hate how linear-sounding it is, but I'm interested to play it.

I only had one 360 die on me(launch unit, I was listening to music off the hard drive, of all things) back in early 2006. I sold the replacement early 2007 and bought a new one when Bioshock/Halo 3 came out. That one's been working perfectly since.

PS3 version for me. I really don't feel like risking another RROD before finishing RPG...again.

I was sort of feeling the same way, but after watching a hillariously awesome unboxing of the LE, I want it more than ever before.

Got another good session with ME2 in tonight. 33.5 hours in. Just a phenomenal game, I don't know that I've ever put that much time into a game in such a short span. Maybe Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES--blew through that in a few days back in high school when I was home sick for a week.

Finished up all the loyalty missions and assignments, nothing in the Journal but the next story mission. So now I'm flying around scanning all the planets looking for anomaly missions. Already got the achievement for doing 5, but want to find them all to get the money and exp (at level 23 currently I think).

I'll probably chill out with scanning every planet to depletion as I'm got around 14,000 Element Zero and well over 200,000 of the other 3 minerals and doubt I'll need more to upgrade stuff this playthrough.

Romance wise...
I banged Jack casually. Doesn't seem to impact the other romance options. Miranda still saying she stop by when it's quite and Tali still asking me to commit to her every time I talk her. Still trying to decide which way to go there. Still leaning toward Miranda. Suppose I could keep a save right before the final decision and do both that way to see the scenes.

I kinda hate hearing how good ME2 is b/c I still haven't finished ME1.

But ME and the Gears of War series have taught me this: wait for the PH version, as it'll have all the DLC content I can't be bothered to actually pay for.
