Rei no Otaku gets the hat trick with General Gaming Thread #9!

Well, you have missions like in FFXII, right? Once you beat so-many-missions, some of the non-mission enemies in the area are replaced by super-hard versions. Jumping from 5M+hp to 16M and all that. ;)

It was inadvertent b/c I was planning on farming them once I beat this-one-mission. And that last mission I beat was the fucking catalyst for the area change. D'oh.
Bah, you guys are all so fast beating the game... I like to take my time. But, tomorrow is my day I will finish it. And I aint reading your damn posts!
I took my time. I just spent 4 days playing just playing ME2.
I took my time. I just spent 4 days playing just playing ME2.
Not sure how you don't "take your time"... 25 hours is nothing to sneeze at.

--

Myke, FF13 has stupid bounty missions like 12? :puke:
Not sure how you don't "take your time"... 25 hours is nothing to sneeze at.:
But I did take my time with the game. I just had LOTS of free time to put into it.

I think he was agreeing with you, in saying that you have to take your time with the game in the sense that it takes a while to get through.

I put just under 43 hours into from Thursday the 4th to last night--well a bit more counting firing up a new game to get to level 30. More than half of that was Friday-Monday when I was pretty sick with a cold and didnt' feel like working much.

Pretty burnt out on gaming after putting that much time in, so will take a break for a while before getting back to some MW2 online. Probably won't touch ME2 again until there's some DLC missions or something. Will hold off on doing another full playthrough until closer to ME3.

I'll probably finish this playthrough and start up ME again. Right now I'm debating on getting the PC version and trying that...

I'm saying that even being focused as I was, I did almost everything, and it took me ~25 hours. I just didn't scan every planet and deplete it to nothing as far as resources went. I suppose people could bare bones it... not recruit anyone... not do the loyalty missions. Then you'd be rushing. *shrug*

I was thinking about buying ME2 today (I had a $15 off coupon at BB) but I couldn't pull the trigger just yet. I did buy 2 retro games at Play N' Trade, though. RBI Baseball ($1) and TMNT II ($5). Before you criticize the latter, realize my TMNT fandom knows no bounds.

Did you like TMNT: Reshelled?

Phew... all done.

ME2 spoiler:
Wtf, why did Mordin die for me... lol. Just randomly was laying dead at the end. I liked him =/ And fuck that, why did I not get to see Tali's face???

Dayum the Go is a sexy little piece of tech. Screen is so nice. Finally got to mess around with one and wish I didn't.

Oh Sony, please make a UMD version, or better yet, hack it already someone.

I lost one person in my first time going through, and I'm keeping that for ME3 going forward. I like to live with my consequences.
Ahw, ya did Rei? Who was it? I lost two... one I wanted to lose: Jacob. I knew he would die if I sent him in the ducts... but I did not want to lose Mordin! GODDAM! But I'll follow your lead and keep my consequences... =(

I killed Jacob the same way as well. I always hated how Jacob would question every member I recruited. And I lost Mordin as well... It seems he dies ALOT. I'm replaying and taking the last mission seriously this time. But I will keep my other game to import to ME3 as well.

Yea, how does Mordin NOT die? Do you have to keep him with you? I didn't purchase the last Tech Damage upgrade, could that do it? *shrug*

Keeping him with you is the best way. But I have heard that having him escort the survivors works as well.

from what Ive read and seen basically the ways to keep him alive are to either have him in your party, or send him back with the crew (which is what I did, no deaths). I don't know how well holding the line with him works, and the other options will for sure kill him. You need loyalty for the survival options as well I think, although my zaeed survived holding the line despite me failing his loyalty mission. Individual upgrades, like mordins tech thing, seem to have no effect on the outcome, as far as I can tell. The only major things are the character loyalty and the ship upgrades.

It's better than the 3D games from last gen.

I beat Splosion Man. It's good, but some of the levels go too far in their difficulty. I really hate when designers demand perfection from you. If you die in Splosion Man, 9 times out of 10 it's the game's fault. But in comparsion, 9 times out of 10 in Demon's Souls when you die, it's your fault.

There's a trend of taking a device and rereleasing in a bigger form right now (DSi, DSi XL, iPad), so maybe they could follow that route. ;)

I LOVE how they went about it at the end. There was no real clear answer and it really depended on your better judgement. I should have sent the "Doctor" back with the patients... bah. I'm regretting having him die dammit!

Yep, that kept him alive for me. Anyone who is loyal to you can
escort the survivors and will survive. Anyone not loyal to you will die escorting them.

There's a thread with the info on end game decisions in the Bioware forums. Saw it a while ago as I was curious what the decision impacts were since I got through it with everyone alive on my first try.

Seems as long as everyone is loyal to you they'll all survive if you send as you send Legion or Tali (tech experts) in the ducts use a leader type (Garrus, Miranda or Jacob) to lead the other group and use Samara or Jack to do the biotic shield. Send whoever else to escort.

So that's how I got it the first time as I knew Legion being Geth was probably the best Tech person, went with Garrus to lead the other groups due to his C-Sec experience, and use Samara for the shield as she seemed to be the most powerful Biotic. Sending Mordin to escort the prisoners was just random as I seldom had him in my party and figured he was a strong enough fighter to do it.

I'll be curious to see how Sony handles this relaunch. It's kind of disheartening to see some new releases not go up on PSN, and some universal price drops not going into place.

Best scene in ME2...

The very last shot; all of those reapers flying towards the universe... jizz explosion. I can't fucking wait for the 3rd one. You think it will be out this generation?

I don't know how you did that. I definitely didn't scan every planet, did everything else and it took me about 35.

I lost Thane. I didn't lose Mordin, but then I never sent him to do anything or put him in my party. So he was never in any danger. I lost Thane because I had Miranda do the force field (stupid I know. I realized it too late), and when she lost it at the end the bugs got Thane who was in my party.

I'm in the same boat as Rei, I did every anomaly mission and completed the game to 100% and my first playthrough is sitting at about 35 hours. I wish I could go back and find how much time my first ME1 playthrough took me so I could compare.

Yeah I don't think I'm halfway through Mass Effect 2 yet. I don't feel much like playing it on weeknights cause i want to marathon it, and I've been watching the wire non-stop or taking care of other things. But tomorrow is ME2 day.
I don't know how you did that. I definitely didn't scan every planet, did everything else and it took me about 35.
I dunno. It was about the same on my insanity run, though I'm not sure how much gameclock reset it had because of checkpoint loading.

Would choosing a infiltrator be a bad idea for an insane run? My bad chick was a soldier in the last game, but I want to change it up... but I don't want to do it if it makes it too hard.

And right now in this moment (just listening to Rebel FM talk about ME2) I can say that Mass Effect 2 was the best game or movie experience I've ever had. It is remarkable how well crafted it is and it is insane.

I've been playing WKC the past two days. Screw some of the reviews, I'm really liking it. Combat took some time to get use to, but now I'm starting to like it. I also like the soundtrack, although not one of the best. What I'm liking more than expected is the storyline/characters. I definitely find Leonard likeable and even saw a slightly emotional scene. Its the exact type of story I like (having to make a pact, out to save someone, and being a chosen one in some way). Only thing it misses is being washed up shore and having amnesia. ;)

Really excited to finally be able to play Star Ocean 4 on PS3 next week. I'll probably still get Last Rebellion, although I'm a tad uncertain about it. For the rest of Feb. I will get:
-Star Ocean: The Last Hope International :ps3: *preordered*
-Dante's Inferno :ps3: *preordered*
-Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce :ps3: *preordered*
-Heavy Rain :ps3: *Once I get $10 credit I'll preoder*
-Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing :ps3: *once I get to GameStop I will*
-Last Rebellion (maybe) :ps3: *preordered*
-Metal Slug XX :psp:

I stopped playing ME2 mid this week cuz I had a load of senior class stuff due yesterday that if was not well done meant I had to wait another year to graduate >_<

On wed I did my last loyalty mission in ME2 so now everyone is loyal to me and I can take whatever powers I need (so far barrier is the best for my soldier).

Prob the only real complaint I have with ME2 is that you never feel like in combat that your skills are a whole lot different from before in terms of power. The only difference is how fast the enemies meter drops. Its not entirely bad since combat is always consistent, but whatever, I'm just whining.

I made the mistake of underestimating warp ammo. That shit makes soldiers unstoppable. Shame I hadn't tried it until after I'd finished most of my insanity run (was mopping up a few side missions and ended up taking Jack with me with squad warp ammo... holy shit.)
Reave (with AoE) is also pretty badass.

I'll try out warp ammo later then.

My shepherd is pretty much a boy scout. I'm prety much paragon up the ass except for the few times I'm nice to people and then punch them.

Reading a lot of the meta critic User reviews makes me want to punch babies. A lot of, "This gme is nowhere near fallout 3!! Fallot is soo much more open! 0/10" and "WAY too much talking and boring story, juz want to shoot... 0/10". That is like buying a book and complaining there is not enough pictures... just because your in the special classes does not mean you should be reviewing games.

Torchlight is so good. I can't wait to see what else Runic Games comes up with, especially with their planned MMO

Finished Bayonetta on Normal, lol I got 3 bronze and then the rest stone for the chapter grades. Finished with like 250,000 halos, which item should I buy for my next playthrough. Leaning towards the one that activates witch time when you get hit, but there's trophies associated with the Moon of Mahala Kalaa.

Also, Mardi Gras David Bowie is a dick.

Don't waste your baby punches on internet opinions plz >_
Yessir...

It's just that Bioware really listens to what people say (see ME2) and they already scared me that they were going to turn ME2 into a mindless shooter. People need to stop bitching that there is, "too much dialogue" or hell they may reduce that. What are these people doing playing this game? They don't want talking and they just want shooting. Play a shooter?

AND people complaining about the planet mining. Goddamit arent those people satisfied with getting the damn planet exploration component removed? Now they want this little crappy side thing you don't have to touch to be removed?! I like to explore planets, leave it alone!
Relax. Bioware knows what they are doing. You were worried about ME2, and look how awesome it is.

I put 35 into my ME1 playthrough--36-37 or so counting the BDTS DLC.

Just under 43 into this one--spent way to much time scanning/probing planets to depletion as I had a ton of minerals left over at the end--and only 1 or 2 upgrades sitting in stores that I couldn't afford--probably because I bought some stuff early on without getting the discount--and later on at the Krogan planet as I didn't hit the dialogue option to open up the rodent shooting mini-game to get the discount there and bought everything full price.

What's wrong with people complaining about about the worst part of the game? Also unlike exploring in ME1 you pretty much HAVE to mine... since you kind of need to upgrade certain things.

Mana Knight really does have the worst opinions about how to spend his gaming budget.

I agreed with the joystiq podcast in that if you say that you don't like Mass Effect 2, you are wrong. Incorrect. You have made a false assertion. I can't really think of a case where this both wouldn't be true, and I could respect the opinion of someone who dislikes it.

:applause:

Like that one reviewer that gave it a 7/10 . So you are basically saying, "Hey I don't know anything about games and I'm a terrible reviewer." Same with those that give bad reviews to Uncharted 2. Yes, it is your opinion. But you are wrong.

yeah - there's criticisms to be made for both, but to say the experience as a whole was anything less than great, that's just incorrect.
