Rei no Otaku gets the hat trick with General Gaming Thread #9!
Sounds like it :[
Ick. I just fired up WKC and installed the Heavy Rain demo, turned it off for a bit, and it's doing that.

I've heard of the "yellow light of death" on it, but not the red light. Going to dig deeper into this.

And it's an original 60GB BC one, too. The ones that Sony charges more to repair now.

fuckstick.

I started play KOTOR on PC today. It feels pretty strange to play after DA, ME 1 and 2. I'm just slightly annoyed that it's scaled and I can use the widescreen hack to fix that.

And I'm probably going to get Bioshock 2... Not sure why I am but I probably will. The Steam deal is tempting but it seems Bioshock doesn't work well in Windows 7. But Amazon has a decent deal for the game. And I'll probably use the GC I get from that on Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth.
yeah - there's criticisms to be made for both, but to say the experience as a whole was anything less than great, that's just incorrect.
I couldn't quite go that far, even though ME2 is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

I may would say that anyone who likes shooters and WRPGs and doesn't love this would cause me to raise eyebrows. But I can see how someone that hates either or both of those genres wouldn't like it.

I'm gonna wait until Bioshock 2 gets cheap. I'd like to play it, but not right away.

MAG is really fun - I got in my first 256 player match last night, it was really epic - i like how you feel like a lone soldier in a war rather than MW2 feeling like you're on your own against everyone or like you have to find the top of the scoreboard and kill 40 guys. Framerate is pretty rough in those big matches, though..

I find the people who say things like "i hate shooters or western rpgs" are probably just closed minded and haven't really played any good ones or just won't allow themselves to like it out of some misguided fear of being part of what's popular or supporting the opponent to their genre of choice or something. Basically fanboy goggles.

Every genre has it's good and bad examples. Mass Effect 2's story structure seems to be identical to most of the JRPGs of old - go about the world, collecting companions, then join up for the big final epic story at the end. I haven't finished it, but it's been a really nice twist on that old structure.

I wouldn't agree with that either. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer who likes every genre.

I pretty much only like shooters and WRPGs these days. Along with the occasional more casual action game like Batman AA or Prince of Persia.

I'm not some fanboy or closeminded for not liking sports games, JRPGs, fighting games, racing games etc.--they just don't do it for me anymore. I played a few games I liked in those genres back when I was more into games--the more you're into a hobby the more you're willing to branch out and find the stuff you'll enjoy in every genre. But with waning interest and less time (and willingness to put free time into gaming) I stick with shooters and WRPGs for the most part as that's what I have the most fun with.

Different strokes for different folks. There are some that bash certain genres for the reason you list, but I think those are just a minority of hardcore gamers (have to be hardcore into something to care what people think about your tastes in a hobby).
Yessir...

AND people complaining about the planet mining. Goddamit arent those people satisfied with getting the damn planet exploration component removed? Now they want this little crappy side thing you don't have to touch to be removed?! I like to explore planets, leave it alone!
You, sir, owe me at least 3 hours of my life back.

Cause I'd love to see how the hell to properly play the game without having to be a slave to resource mining. Capital bullshit is what that was. Exploring planets to find anomalies is fine. But don't make me do it for hours just to get enough fucking resources to upgrade my weapons so they do actual damage on the harder enemies. >_
Mana Knight really does have the worst opinions about how to spend his gaming budget.

I agreed with the joystiq podcast in that if you say that you don't like Mass Effect 2, you are wrong. Incorrect. You have made a false assertion. I can't really think of a case where this both wouldn't be true, and I could respect the opinion of someone who dislikes it.
Agreed on both.

The IGN review confirmed to me that I should get Bioshock 2. So I will. Plus the Amazon credit doesn't hurt things either.

I still hate that they added too many Multiplayer achievements/trophies.

I'm more excited for Stalker Call of Pripyat coming in next week from amazon.

I couldn't give two shits about trophies/achievements so it doesn't matter to me.

Same. I'll try for some if they're fun to get and get me more play time with a game I love.

But I don't care about them and have never done anything I though was a pain in the ass to get an achievement.

When I get Bioshock 2 I'll just do the single player, have a blast with it, and trade it off like the first one since the multiplayer looks pretty bad.

Conversely, with something like MW2 I did the single player once on the default difficulty and have moved on to MP and won't go back to the single player for achievements. May get some spec ops once eventually if my former roommate ever gets a 360 and picks up the game as those are pretty fun with a friend.

For the first time in...(checking) 9 months I played some Rock Band 2. I still don't know how far through World Tour I am, but I just got the bus in Montreal. Weird thing happened while I was playing though, the drum pads/buttons stopped working so I had to turn it off and when I turned it back on it started working again :S

I'm not crazy about them but MP trophies/achievements just bug me.

Yeah, MP achievements/trophies are just a 'ugh, why are you doing this?' moment. They pretty much ruin any online experience.

I will say Uncharted 2 had the right idea with the MP Trophies. Of course I still didn't care enough to try the MP out...

Yeah I need to get back to it as well. Haven't played it since September when I downloaded Pearl Jam's new album.

I'd gotten Rock Band 1 from Goozex first, and had just played through it so I was a bit burnt out on music games. Plus I hated the World Tour mode in RB2 since you end up replaying songs so much in different venues to get the starts to move on.

Much prefer the traditional tier system.

So, I feel weird, I'm actually enjoying my Renegade playthrough of ME2 almost as much as my Paragon playthrough. That hasn't happened since KOTOR. I'm getting a real kick out of doing the complete opposite of my Paragon playthrough, good thing too, as it looks like I'll only be playing ME2 this week because for some reason Gamefly decided to send me a game that was all the way at the bottom of my goddamn list (of 32 games) even though there were about 9 other games that were listed as available now and more than half of the rest had a high availability rank. Now I have to wait until my sister gets done with it so I can send it back... CURSE YOU GAMEFLY FOR NOT SENDING ME DRAGON'S AGE!!!!

Spec ops is a ton of fun with a friend. I think it might be the most enjoyment I got out of MW2, compared to SP and competitive MP.

The pedals to my xbox steering wheel died while playing some Forza 3. I'm not sure what happened either, as it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.

Spec ops was a blast. Mostly.
Manthing and I did most of em together...
I ended up running wetworks and armor piercing on veteran solo. Those fucking sucked.

Yeah, we did the first 3 or 4 missions when my friend visited in December. If he'd just hurry up and get his own 360 and the game we'd finish them off for sure.

Yea I'm going through on an Insane Renegade run. It is a lot of fun. But, playing Renegade the first time is dumb... DUMB!

Only because it makes the paragon run boring.

Psht, yea the Renegade run is more fun. But you get less characters and missions - which I prefer in my first run, more fulfilling.

Less characters and missions? You mean NPCs? So what? I counted one less mission, and it was a mission that lasted all of 5 minutes.

I just finished my paragon run. So unsatisfying.
I hope I can

I wish
She had been able to flesh out more of what she wanted to say, the QTE cuts her off so quick. I was impressed that Shepard decks her in the face this time, however.

Yeah, there isn't a huge difference other than what you say to people. I LOVE WHAT YOU SAY, THOUGH. Man, my favorite thing so far is the part where I got to
call that one shop in the Citadel out for discriminating against the poor and the part where I kille Samara in favor of Morinth.

PS3 am dead.

$150 to downgrade to a slim, $180 to get a 60GB BC back - both fuckin' *refurbs*; or $300 to get a new slim.

This fuckin' sucks.

Probably! :D

But I'd replace mine right away (still under warranty until fall, would buy a new one after)!

Yep. My heavyhanded "you want me to PAY YOU to downgrade to a system with less functionality that's refurbished!?!?!" b/w "do you appreciate the irony that I bought this system because of its hardware reliability?" probably didn't earn me any favors with customer support.

I *just* was getting ready to start up White Knight Chronicles. I kinda figure that I'ma buy a Slim (this gives me an opportunity to break out my PS2 and set it up so I can play imports on it anyway, which I've been meaning to do) - but I'm curious if there are any soopa cool bundles like the Infamous/Dark Knight BD one that came out around christmastime.

And I'll have to bust open the dead one and get the WKC disc out, too.

Part of me wants to take the console apart and see all the good stuff on the inside.

Part of me wants to hurl it against the wall until I can peel it apart for the disc inside like it's a shitty broken piñata.

It's all on the HDD, so I can swap it out on any old PS3 console, right? Like if I were to pick up a PS3 tonight, I'd swap out the HDDs and be back to where I was 6 hours ago, right?

Save for the ability to play motherfucking Yakuza 2.

Yakuza 2 looks like shit on the PS3 anyway. Something went wrong with the emulation and that game.

My 60GB disc drive has been dead for months and I cant afford getting a refurb or even a new drive... >_<

I can relate, kinda.

I need some help I think. Or more, an opinion. I've been playing Disgaea 2 on my PSP more than anything else lately. I've got like 8 hours or so clocked in and all of my characters are around level 10/12, but I'm only on like, the second level? Are they broken into levels? Or more like worlds? I don't know. Some busted down castle thing. Am I spending too much time building up my characters that I'm missing a neat story? Is it bad that I have a Prinny as one of my strongest characters? More importantly, should I look in to the PS3 Disgaea game?

Also, retarded side question. What is it about Half Life 2 that rules? I've put about 6 or so hours into it, and I'm having fun, but am just curious what all the hype is/was about? And the vehicle segments suck.

No, it is just whoever you play first with. Your main and your alt. Your alt will always be less satisfying in terms of the story/events.

Whenever you put a HDD into a new PS3, it will ask you to format it. So, you'll need to extract the data somehow.
