Resident Evil 4 Wii - $19.99 on Black Friday! 750,000 copies sold around the globe!

I played through the village last night. Since this is the first time playing the game I can't say if it's better or worse, but I can bitch that it takes 6 shots to the face to take someone down which sucks ass. I had to reload my handgun 3-4 times when I got in the middle of the village and had all the people coming at me.

Please tell me the game gets much better after the village because at this point it's just "meh" for me. With the high scores and the people who claim it's one of the best out there I'm not ready to dismiss it just yet.

There's a reason why headshots aren't instant that you learn about later.

They aren't normal people.

Played through the village last night as well. The only problem I see with this game is that you won't be able to play for as long a time with your arm constantly in the air. It forces rest periods. But, that's the ONLY problem I see. I love the new control system. Just not for long stretches of time.

It was hard before, it was even worse as you're thrown into it just as you're trying to get used to these controls.

Trust me, the game just gets better, and fast, from here.

I just played like the first 20 minutes and I'm not sure why people say it takes some time to get used. It controls extremely well as far as I can see. I'm just hoping that it doesn't make the game too easy.

Anyway, I'm also kinda pissed to see that the game doesn't actually support true widescreen after all. There are 1" black bars on the left and right sides of my 32" LCD. If it was a true widescreen game, it would fill the whole space. This game's graphics are just resized from the GC version.:bomb:

Well after ditching my non-players choice RE4 for GC for $20, and learning of the FYE mail in rebate of $10 = GAME FOR FREE! Can't get better then that.

Unfortunately u dont have to cut out the UPC and wait for $10. But who cares, who is actually gonna trade this game in? Well unless they make another re-make in the future ;)

For once im saying: GOD BLESS FYE AND EBAY :)

Well I just got past the village part and I have a buttload of ammo. About 92 handgun ammos and 24 shotgun shells counting the ones in the guns. Although I didn't run into the village like a fool to trigger Leatherface.

Mobs do not seem harder to me, I think you guys are just relying too much on headshots because of the Wii mote. I can't really tell if the mobs drop less ammo, I always try to conserve it. If you're having ammo problems, shoot their face, run up to them and kick them.

I found the title to be overrated, despite also being quite good. There are a few particular "moments" in the game that makes the experience worth it, in my opinion. All of them are extremely familiar horror film cliches done extremely well. And when I say 'extremely well' I mean you'll be wanting to dedicate a save game or two just to replay those. Those scenes aside, the game was too long for me, and got quite redundant.

Judging from the extreme amount of positive feedback so far, I'll be planning to pick it up in August.

After Manhunt 2 getting axed, I'm going to go get this later tonight. This should definitely be nice considering we get REAL online play in a month.

Note: PBR is Diamond/Pearl WiFi...in 3d...without trading...but random battles are ok. So, that really doesn't make any sense to me. So, it's not REAL online play.

Please to be explaining?

I loved RE:4 on the GC, haven't played any other ports yet. Anyhow, rather than just going to head shots, you're often better off going for a shot to the knees then hitting the suplex. Alternatively, there's a window of opportunity to kick your opponents when they're staggering a certain way (can't remember where you shoot them for this).

Using all bullets is too slow and you run the risk of running out of ammo (yes, there's a ton more ammo in this game than previous RE games, I'd still rather have a giant stack of it at the end).

I picked this up yesterday. So far, it controls great, and yes, actually holding up your arm to play is rather silly. I just rest my arm on the couch beside and control everything with my wrist. I don't know what the hell is up with the Eurogamer reviewer. The controls feel very fluid compared to the previous itterations of the game.

Is it just me, or does the game seem kinda blurry/soft to anyone else? It's not as noticeable in game, but the menus, inventory, comm screen, ect. look almost out-of-focus. I haven't noticed this in any other game I've played. Even the title screen, which wouldn't be recycled 2-year old material, is this way. It might be because I'm playing on a 60" screen, but if that were the case, it would affect other games as well.

I was also a bit annoyed by the underscan. I get a 1" pillar on the left and 2" on the right. I was able to get it to fill the entire screen by messing with my TV settings, but it's cutting off about a cm at the top. I guess it's a good enough trade off.

Other than that, I'm loving the game. I played it on the GC and PS2, but never got around to beating it.

That's what's pissing me off now but my TV doesn't have a feature to adjust it. Or atleast, I don't think it does. I should go look.

I'm at the prison area (after you get capture) and it's one of my most favorite areas of the game.

Great game, made even better now. The nunchuk movement of the camera in aiming takes a little getting used to, but it is much better than the bounding box style.

It made me happy to see my vision of frantic waggling to get plaga dogs off your face come true.

Keep those tips coming, I wasn't able to get very far in this on the Gamecube version and I only played for a few minutes yesterday to see how the controls handled on the Wii. I'll finally try and complete this game to see what all the hype is about.

Environment is so much to these kind of games. Play in the dark, with headphones, not in the middle of the day with other people watching and talking to you.
this may have been asked already, but can you use the gamecube controller on the wii version?
The back of the box shows a picture of a VC classic controller, so I'm pretty certain that there is an option for gamepad control.

Got the game yesterday and played a bit tonight (just beat el gigante first one). Honestly I feel its a bit more challenging for Wii (gameplay alone), but the actions sequences (such as running from boulders) is much easier with the wiimote. Overall this game is just as good as before, it looks crisper to a certain extent. I didn't purchase the ps2 version, so getting the extra ada missions and such with the added new gameplay really makes this my most worth wii purchase to date (wii games owned: elebits, wii sports, zelda). Honestly I cannot recommend a better game for the Wii right now, to those who own a version of RE4 and have the Wii...buy this, to those who don't, wtf buy it already!

Wow Manhut 2 got kicked for Wii, dammit! That game looked so promising, and I was a huge fan of the original Manhunt. fuck!

Having to use the control stick with the scope on the rifle just further drives home the fact that IR aiming can be so much better than a control stick. It's such a jarring difference.

I played through 2-3 early this AM before work. IMO it is not more difficult than the GC original, and I'd go so far as to say that the Wii controls make the game a little easier in some instances. For example, the siege (w/ Luis in the house) at the end of 2-2 was a TON easier than the GC version thanks to the Wii controls.

I'm still having a problem targeting well with the knife. It'll take practice.

I have to say that the lack of upgraded graphics takes some of the sheen off this re-release. It's still nice to have, but it's not everything it was made out to be. Hard to complain too much when there's extra content and new controls to play with--all for only $30 or less.
Anyone else stack up on golden chicken eggs?
Yeah, you know what, it seems like I'm getting a lot more money and eggs in this version. So far, I've had 4 white, 3 brown, and 2 golden. Those golden eggs are great, fully restore health and only take up one block. I also have like 37K, along with about 25K in treasures.

But the enemies definitely seem a lot harder, they can take a lot more shots.

I also kinda wish the rifle had Wiimote aiming. It feels weird trying to manually aim it.
Do the chickens in the areas just randomly lay eggs or is there any trick to it i've only have found one white egg i'm just curious.
It's random. You just have to run around at the farm and hope for the best. If you want to load up on them, save at the typewriter near the entrance, chase chickens, rinse, repeat. I fucking hate chickens, and if I've got the ammo to spare, I pop 'em. Just to let the zombies know that I don't fuck around, even when it comes to poultry.

Thanks for the Friday laugh.

re 4 on the wii is the first time i've ever played this game and all I can say is that i friggin' love it! The controls aren't bad at all but I've still got some Godfather motions ingrained like opening doors and stuff haha. This game is incredible even though the graphics weren't updated. They still look decent enough for 2005 as one reviewer wrote. I've also noticed that zombies will take 1 to 5(6 somtimes) pistol bullets to the head before dying...it's pretty odd. No matter, great game!

Just played a hair more (to the point where you first meet the merchant and have that big open area nad the hordes of guys coming to getchya). I gotta say, there's few things I've played in a game more satisfying then dealing with some guys up front, quickly sniping a stick of dynamite in a guys' hands about 75 yards away killing 4 guys at once, and then resuming the punting of the horrible, horrible meanies.

I know RE4 played a lot different than the other ones. Could the GC REmake benefit from this setup though? I've never played any of them except 4.

Daroga, don't give Capcom any ideas ;)

What shocked me the most was how easy and intuitive the controls are - I never read the manual, never looked at the in game help, and figured out every control in about 3 minutes.

The only one I had to look up was how to reload quicker than using the diagonal pad, and I'm glad there was a way

I will admit, it's a bit awkward aiming with the knife, but I'm getting used to it. The vllagers seem to move faster, or maybe it's because I haven't played the game in awhile.

Haha, same here. It was so easy to figure out except for the reloading. I personally prefer the 'flip' reload better (hold the aiming button, and then do a flip motion with the Wiimote- as you would when trying to flip a pancake).

Yea, I'm so glad that is in there because reaching the pad while I'm holding the B button was a bit of a stretch.

It seems to me the villagers are faster / smarter - they were running at me and as I was aiming moved over to the side to keep coming at me.

Maybe it's my imagination, or maybe I just don't remember the game that well, but I would swear they are faster / smarter. The game is still certainly challenging enough.

So my two biggest fears, the controls and difficulty, were both handled very well. Bravo to Capcom!

As stated before, it does take a lot more shots to take down the villagers. I've employed a tactic that went unused when I played the GC version, kicking them. This time around, I just shoot them in the face until they start moaning and then I run up to them and kick.

Also, this time around i've died a lot more.
I gotta stop reading this thread. I can't get this game yet. I've still got Zelda to work through.
Heh, I was in this same situation. I bought it anyway and now I haven't touched Zelda since. I figured I could play both games alternating, but I've never been able to before, so I guess I was just being naive. ;)

On another note, is anyone else playing this game on a large screen (50"+)? If so, do you find it to be softer/more blurry than any other Wii game? Even the screen telling you to use the wrist strap is a bit blurry to me.

Where can I find the Euro box art
(one with the trees), for this game and what is a good paper to print it on?

It has been suspended to rework the game from an AO rating to a M rating. I wouldn't worry we will most likely see the game later this year, maybe around November being my guess.

As for RE4, has anyone else changed their tactics while playing through a second time. I don't like the aiming with the analog stick, so I didn't buy a rifle and man that makes the game harder and more intense when all you have is a pistol and a shotgun. Basically forcing you to get in the Ganados faces, but I am loving it. Especially the quick knife attack. I have seen some people complain about it in other forums. I just find it so natural to swipe the wiimote when I get a Ganado on the ground. Saves ammo to boot.

Why is everyone saying the graphics weren't updated? It's true 16:9 widescreen now. Plus, I can see the environment textures better than even the GCN version (which I did try on the Wii previously).

I'm glad I didn't play this one through completely, as it's a lot more fun shooting with the Wiimote.

Thanks, I'll look for it there. That white cover with the trees is awesome.

I shouldn't have got it at Buy.com, should'd just went to the store and picked it up. I'm sooo antcy right now.

Unless I'm mistaken, true 16:9 wouldn't have black bars on the side of the television - as small as they are, it's still noticeable, something Twilight Princess doesn't have.

Just got it!!
This is my first time playing this game (...or..any..RE game..:shame:..) and it's really neat  The controls are a bit frustrating at times, but overall very easy to control..and makes shooting/killing very fun too!

Oh and BTW. fuck those villagers!! This shit is hard! :(

Exactly. When I first fired up the game, I noticed it right away and was pretty pissed. It's not true widescreen, it's just a zoomed in of the GC game. If you play the GC game and use your LCD's zoom feature to fit it on screen, that's exactly how it looks. Pretty lazy of Capcom didn't bother fixing this.:bomb:

And all of you are right, this game IS harder than the GC/PS2 version. There seems to be more enemies, they definitely take more hits, and they definitely approach you way faster than they did in the GC/PS2 version.

A lot of the villagers take two shotgun shots to go down. And this is just the regular villagers.

Just beat it... this is my second time going through RE4 (gamecube back in 05) and I thought it was awesome.

The controls were spot on. Graphics seemed a little better, nothing to rave about. I'm glad I didn't buy it on the PS2... made this playthrough a lot more refreshing.

I found it harder, but not by much. My problem was never enough healing items, always bullets. Is it just me or was there NEVER enough pistol bullets?
