Resident Evil 4 Wii - $19.99 on Black Friday! 750,000 copies sold around the globe!
Same reason the original version was censored. So if you can answer one, you will answer the other. But I'm not entirely sure why.

As a generalization, it seems like Japan can show anything they want in entertainment venues, but if it's bad, it's censored.
Interesting, never knew any version was censored.
Ah well, so long as my copy isn't.

To further add to the confusion, the original RE on the ps1 was censored in America, some cutscenes of gore were edited out. But those scenes were in the Japanese version. Then Capcom put out the 'Directors Cut' version in America, and one of the new features was to be the restoration of those scenes. But Capcom screwed it up and those scenes were still missing in the North American release of RE Directors Cut.
Yep.

Preordered from Buy.com for $8.99 shipped. $3.99 after PriceGrabber rebate.
Is there a way for anyone to get it from buy.com for that price? All i know of is the $10 google checkout thing...

That's why I never bought the Director's Cut back then.
It had some of the extra stuff, but still not fully restored.

I just bit on the Buy.com $18.99 shipped after GCO deal. I didnt want to search through the whole thread but can you use the GCN controller with this version?
I just bit on the Buy.com $18.99 shipped after GCO deal. IGN claimed it does not support these controls, but until a final review comes out, we'll have to wait. It could be that their non-retail build had the controls disabled, or they didn't know how to use it (it's not obvious in the Japanese release). I don't see why they'd take it out for the US.

I just ordered this today and am ready to actually play it for my "real" first time. I played it on the ps2 up until the part where the guy shows me his "wharez". Then i got side tracked with other games.

What are you buying?

I never played the Cube version, but I am getting excited for this. Looking forward to seeing some reviews on the controls.
Im excited, never played RE4
Me either. We get to play the best version of one of the best games last gen for $25.

BTW, how long does Fry's shipping usually take and when do they usually ship preorders?
is anyone going to pick up that wii blaster gun accessory that is coming out a week after RE4?
It says it's RE4 compatible, but I highly doubt it. You will have to akwardly press the B button and the A button at the same time to shoot which, unless the pics I've seen of the gun are wrong, is much easier without it.

I'm sure a proper gun attachment, which remaps the A and B buttons to ones built into the gun, will come out eventually... I hope.

Fry's ship preorders in a random, odd way - sometimes they ship it out the day they are supposed to, but sometimes they ship things out days after they come out. They used DHL ground which takes another 3 - 4 days.

Some preorders from Fry's I've gotten in 3 or 4 days of release, others have taken 2 - 3 weeks.

With Fry's, the bigger the game, the harder it is to ship on time.

I played the hell out of Super Paper Mario this weekend so I could make sure I beat it to make room for this in my gaming agenda. I've already beaten RE4 twice on the Cube, I'm excited to play it again. Easily one of my top ten favorite games. I'm actually kind of excited to play it with the classic controller too. Finally get some use out of the damn thing.

Is this one of those games that retailers get on a Sunday and hold for the shelves until Tuesday? Or is that only first party stuff?

Because if there's somebody out there breaking the street date, I'd be willing to track it down just to have something to play tonight.

I'm waiting to pick this up until some real gamers (not BS magazine reviewers) post opinions. I love RE4 and I almost definitely will be getting this, but I want to know what I'm getting into first. Plus I'm just not in the mood for survival horror at this time.

Nope. If so it would be on torrent sites already (like Big Brain a few days before release).

Just to make clear, because the date in the OP is wrong -

This game SHIPS TOMORROW, IN STORES WEDNESDAY.

So the correct *release* date is June 20th, the *shipping* date is June 19th.

A small fraction of people might get lucky and find it tomorrow, but the other 99% of people out there will get it Wednesday.

I wish EB / GS would stop listing the fucking shipping date, and do what BestBuy.com does, and just list the in-store / available date.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll head out Wednesday afternoon.

I wish more people actually understood this. Tomorrow, GameFaqs will be cluttered with "its out today but where is it!!!!!!" posts.

Its also on Torrents so it is possible some stores already have it.

So Wednesday on this... darn... I wasn't really caring too much, but this is starting to sound fun. My cousin has played the game about 20 times (literally), and I guess she's finally convinced me I should pick it up!

I wish someone had tried the $20 off 2 Wii games deal to see if it still works... $20 for this would be sweeeeet.

Honestly I don't really blame them.
It's pretty stupid that DVDs and CDs come out on Tuesdays, but games come out on Wednesdays and Thursdays, especially when you usually see the game's release date being advertised as Tuesday when it's really the ship date.
Honestly, the vast majority of stores don't have any problems with DVDs and CDs being street dated, so why would they have any problems with videogames? The videogame publishers should ship their games out a week or so early and street date them, just like what happens with DVDs and CDs.

Well, this game is officially free. In addition to the $20 GCO bonus, GCO emailed me on their own to tell me they credited my card with the $8.99 purchase price - all goes back to my screwed up price-error TRU MP8 order that they were going to fix for me. I never thought they'd fix it for a different item so I didn't bother asking them, but I'll take it!

Oh man, I was hoping it was out today so that I could read up on some of your thoughts and get it tomorrow. I'm really undecided on this.

On one hand, you have one of the best games ever with true widescreen support, better aiming controls, $30 price tag, and my Wii desperately needs some useage (I'm not paying $50 for SPM).

Oh the other hand, I've already played this 3 times (twice through GC, once through PS2) and $30 seems a little steep for just improved aiming and widescreen- don't careful the PS2 included extras since I already played them on the PS2 version and they sucked ass.

I don't know if I should get this now or put it off until the TRU B2G1 Free sale (along with 2 DS games).

Anyone who grabs it, I would ask for you to post your impressions, especially if you have played the game before. In particular, I'd like to know if the controls are done as well as Famitsu claims.

I'm not "sold" on this game yet, and I'd like to know what the people think.

So let's get down to brass tacks. The reason that the Wii version is the best is because the new control system makes the gameplay more enjoyable. Using both the Wii remote and the nunchuck, players will be able to perform all of the regular moves and attacks from before, only now they can do them in a more sensitive, accurate and pleasing fashion. Leon is moved around by using the nunchuck's directional stick, while the all-important aiming is achieved by using the remote like a pointer. Holding down the B button on the remote then puts Leon into his targeting stance and using a combination of the Wii remote's sweeping movement and the nunchuck's directional stick, you're left with a highly useable and accurate method of shooting and knifing enemies.

This is the real key to success. What was a decent enough implementation of combat in the GameCube and PS2 versions is mastered with the Wii's intuitive control system. The biggest immediate payoff is that Leon is now much more accurate and responsive when shooting his guns, throwing his grenades and swiping with his trusty hunting knife.

From Gamespy. They gave it a 100/100 or 5 out of 5 stars.

Stopped by WalMart on the way home to see if they had this in stock tonight, but no go. Have to pick it up tomorrow. I, however, forgot that SimCity DS also hits tomorrow. Just when I was making some progress in my newly aquired backlog...

Game just shipped today, per press release, so I wouldn't expect anyone had it stashed away early.

IGN gives it a 9/10, simply for the fact that it hasn't advanced beyond the two year old game that it is. Controls get excellent comments, though.

I always approach a review like this with some level of caution. The original Resident Evil 4 was an exceptional effort and little has changed in the two years since it debuted. But there it is, right? It's a two-year-old port with a handful of enhancements. How do you re-review that? The process wasn't nearly as difficult as it could've been. Our ratings scale exists to define our scores, and there's little doubt that RE4 remains as engaging, frightening and atmospheric as it was on 2005. Old or not, it's still great, and it deserves its place in Wii's top-tier of titles. The visuals aren't as impressive as they once were, true, but Wii owners do walk away with improved controls that enable a greater degree of shooting speed and accuracy, a true 16:9 widescreen mode and all the content extras of the PS2 build – all for a bargain price of $29.99. If you played the GameCube original, consider the Wii game the ultimate collector's edition – frankly, that's what it is; the culmination of the best from its predecessors with some added Wii improvements. And if you have never played RE4 before, consider the Wii release an absolute must-own experience.

The GCN original scored a 9.8 and the PS2 iteration and 9.5 in 2005. The Wii title is the best of the three, but it also arrives two years later, which is primarily why we've dropped the score. The fact is, while an amazing experience, RE4 does not push Wii in the same way it did GCN or PS2.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/797/797837p2.html

And to round out the bunch, GameSpot gives it a 9.1:

http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/residentevil4/review.html?sid=6172762

The Good: Intuitive, elegant controls make playing RE4 a joy all over again; nail-biting action features creepy enemies and gargantuan bosses; top-notch production values create an atmosphere of tension and dread; long, suspenseful story and excellent replay value make this a steal for 30 bucks.

The Bad: The controls soften the difficulty level a bit; no wii-specific content.

Eurogamer didn't care for it claiming that the Wii controls actually make the game worse. Eurogamer is by far my favorite review site, though I'm not that familiar with Dave McCarthy and he's not as good a writer as their other critics, so who knows. But he does seem to be the only one who doesn't like the Wii controls, so I feel it's important to throw in his opnion. I'll cross my fingers and pick it up when it goes for under $20.

Yeah I suppose It's hard to give a game a perfect rating when It's a several year old port with enhanced controls. But at the same time It's the best version and It's not overly priced. I gave Warcraft 2 Battle Net Edition a higher score then the original that was released simply for the online factor. This is no different since the game is "enhanced" I would say we have one of the best games of all time on the Wii now, and It's even more enhanced making it one of the best games/version of the best game ever.

so does Brothers In Arms for the DS. That's supposed to be real good.

OMG Gamespot finally did a decent review...or because RE4 was a great game, it was totally biased based on the PS2 and GCN reviews.

Anyways, Frys are going to have this for $30 tomorrow...oh yea!
