Resident Evil 5 -Gen. Discussion - Lost In Nightmares & Desperate Esacpe DLC Out Now!
Question:
What's the deal with Chapter 3-1 after you assemble the seal? There seem to be an endless amount of bad guys to kill and I can bring down either of the two heavy hitters with the clubs or whatever they swing. There is a bridge to raise up but there's no way to do it until I kill everyone - should I just keep blasting them or am I missing something else?
I think the little guys endless until you beat the two big guys. You don't need the magnum to do it, but it helps. I nearly emptied all my ammo and grenades on them.

Just use the Rocket launcher you find on the boat to make it fast and easy. They both line up for it.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure whether to waste the rocket launcher and I didn't have room for the magnum so I didn't try that either. I emptied my shotgun and all of my bullets into them and even uppercut them a few times each and nothing happened.

I'm only missing 8 achievements from this game. :(

Still playing it on Professional non the less. and I have 2 chapters left to go. Sucks that if you join a friends game it only counts towards your friends progress and not your own.

I'm playing through again on Veteran now. I did have infinite ammo for the handcannon, but it made everything way too easy. I'm probably going to turn it off since the game does provide you with enough ammo for everything except the magnums which are suppose to really only be used rarely.

Has anybody started doing Mercenaries mode? Got any tips for the Prison level, I always die there.

Final Wesker + Sheva's down syndrome is pissing me off. I think I'm on attempt number five now. I always run out of ammo before he even shows signs of going down. Either that or Sheva's intelligence drops to that of an autistic chimp and she gets one of us killed. Help?

*Edit*

Beat it. I literally had to take away ALL of Sheva's ammunition to do it. As soon as the fight started she would just fire-off all her ammo into useless spots. I made it so her one and only job was to not get hit, (she wasn't very good at it). Even with our combined ammunition, I was on my last ten pistol bullets when he finally went down.

I loved the game, but I'm still beyond pissed that it had to be either co-op or dumbass AI. It was a great game, but it was so ruined by the co-op fad. I can't imagine how much better it would've been without it. Resident Evil 4 will always be superior to this.

It counts if you join before any checkpoints in the mission.

Just beat the game on Veteran in 2 hrs 45 mins, probably gonna do a professional run tonight (my last achievement)

I spent a good 37 hours playing this game, once I got used to the controls the game became much better.

Which barely happened. :( So now I gotta do some over and I'm done. I just can't get use to Mercenaries. But that Versus looks promising for some reason.

I agree 100%. My one story of stupid Sheva AI for the day:

So, I'm on 2-2, and they're firing dynamite from the hill above. I give Sheva a rifle, and some ammo, and assist her to the level above, so she can help. She starts helping, but then she decides that my health is low:roll::roll::roll:, and takes out a healing item.
So, she's standing at the top of the hill getting destroyed with a healing item in her hands (won't move either), and a fully loaded rifle and machine gun at her disposalfuckfuckfuckyou Capcom for forcing this on me.

So, I had to run up the hill, and save her ass with my last healing item...arrrhghghghg!!!! In the subsequent boss fight she was just as helpful.

^ Heh, if you think she's useless now. Just wait 'till you hit chapter five. Things start to get complicated, and she gets even dumber. For example, just yesterday, I was caught by an enemy and needed assistance, and in the corner of my screen I see Sheva just standing there watching me be torn to pieces. I had to do this particular sequence six more times because this kept happening.

Other cool things Sheva can do:

- Refuse to give me a can of first aid spray, or heal me herself. (That is BULLSHIT that "you can't right now!" You're standing RIGHT next to me and you're doing NOTHING).

- Constantly run into hordes of enemies to pick up ONE STUPID LAND MINE THAT WE DON'T NEED!

- Stand RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY fuckING CROSSHAIRS AND BLOCK MY SHOT! I press "B" to get her to move: "I can't right now!" FUUUUUUUUCK!!!

Hahaha if only yelling at her helped, she is really, really dumb. She's like your dumb little sister, if she goes off on her own she gets lost, in the first Wesker fight you have to practically mash B to keep her from going after Jill and eating a TMP sandwich.

I love the game, but DAMN Sheva is dumb.

Just beat the game a couple days ago and got some minor questions about the story:

I could have sworn Jill Valentine had red hair. Did her hair change color due to that thing on her chest or when she got infected back in part 3?

Also, in the final cut scene where Chris and Sheva launch RPGs at Wesker, doesn't it look like Wesker's head completely dodges both of them? His head sort of ducks forward to avoid them, at least that's what I saw.

Overall, it was a pretty good game. Though it should have been called "Resident Evil 4.5"

Sure Ma12kez, and Resident Evil 2 should have been RE 1.5, right? Code Veronica and 4 are the only ones that ever drastically changed the game engine.

Yeah, Jill's hair used to be brown. They explain in one of the reports you can read that when she got infected it caused her hair to turn blonde.

It does look like it misses Wesker, it happens so fast. I'm sure Capcom did it just in case they ever wanted to bring Wesker back.

Finally got through my second play-through, this time on Veteran. I admit, I slogged through the last half... all of the co-op AI problems REALLY begin to show when the difficulty goes above normal.

Oh, and biggest co-op issue? When playing as Sheva, Chris CONSTANTLY stands in the way. When that situation is reversed, it's not a big problem... she's small. You can't see around Chris, though, which makes shit a lot tougher than it needs be.

I might run through and grab the emblems for completion sake, but I just don't know about a run on Professional. Even if I start it, I feel like I'll never get around to finishing it.

By the by, does anyone know
what the final menu selection in 'Special Settings' is?

Going to guess it's the Vs Mode DLC

Infinite Ammo.

Attempting a Professional run with AI Sheva = ehhh.

Honestly? I've died more being hit by random thrown knives/wrenches/bottles from out of nowhere than anything else so far, and that's pretty ridiculous. Of course, since you instantly go into the dying state and only have a split second to be saved, Sheva is never there. Last half of the game? Don't wanna think about it.

Might be better off waiting until I can do this with a friend.

Yeah, those were my thoughts on the whole Wesker rocket thing. If they don't start over with new characters in RE6, then I really don't see them keeping Wesker "dead".

For the entire game??? How is that possible - most chapters are taking an hour to beat!

I just finished 3-3 on my first run through the game on Normal. I'm liking it so far but RE4 is better in just about every way other than graphics. God, I'd even pay for RE4 a third time if they released it for the 360 with nothing but upgraded graphics...

This game is pretty terrible. I understand that they want this to be a co-op experience, but it's no excuse for piss-poor AI programming and tedious, obfuscating inventory management. I'm just past the mines on chapter 2 or 3 or whatever, and it's just a chore. I never thought I wouldn't be having ANY enjoyment with a game like RE4, but lo and behold.

Playin on Professional is really giving me a challenge, I died like 8 or 9 times in the start waiting for Kirk to blow the gate open and avoiding natives. I already have an infinite Handcannon, Custom 3 round burst pistol, and am working on getting the points to get the Gatling Gun to be infinite as well.

Also im trying to grab all of the emblems and missed one in the start so far, do all of the emblems collect up through out the game or do I need to get them in one game and then they are reset??

You'se two. Stop playing with the AI. If you don't have anyone to play with, play together.

The emblems don't have to be collected in one playthrough.

They have a valid point, don't bash them for that.

A game should be good on its own and not require you to play online to get a good experience.

They could've easily resolved this by either making the offline single player experience NOT include Sheva, or make it so you can switch between controlling Sheva and Chris so that way you can make sure the AI partner does what they're supposed to do.

There's nothing more annoying than people blindly defending a game's weaknesses. Developers will never learn from their mistakes when people defend them.

I love this game, but I played through the whole time online and I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for people who wanted to play alone. I played through Chapter 6 with AI Sheva and man, she's really stupid.

RE has always been a single-player experience. Apparently, according to many here, this game should ONLY be good in co-op and those who are hoping for a good single-player experience are screwed.

The game should be good in both 1p AND co-op.

Sorry, RE has always been a single player experience, until 5. Them's the facts.

Any time someone makes a game that has another character, throughout the entire game, that you depend on, it's going to be a glowing disappointment playing single player verses having another player take control of the other character. That's just the way it is.

I hate to say it, but if Sheva was removed from the game, RE5 would have little reason to exist beyond being RE4: The African chapter.

But here's the big question: If RE5 pulled a Halo 3 (Single player it's just Chris while in Co-op it's Chris + Sheva), even though it doesn't make any sense storywise (and contradicts parts of it) would it have been better?

Oh cool, I didn't know that. I'll read those files the next time I fire it up.

I thought playing with Sheva single player was alright so long as you only stuck her with a rifle and machine gun. With a pistol, she just blows through the ammo too fast. Not an issue when her machine gun has +200 ammo.

Sheva is deadly accurate with a rifle and seems to spread her shots out with an MG (except when going up against bosses). I always thought she did a good job covering your flank when in "cover" mode. Just never put her in "attack" mode because then you'll experience what everyone else is complaining about.

Other than that, just ask someone on CAG to play with you. If anyone needs help, I'll be glad to (if I'm not playing with someone else).

Game's fine as a 1 player experience. I recommend leaving Sheva on attack mode most of the time, and giving her the rifle and smg. She's been hella useful for me like this.

Maybe. As long as the difficulty scaled accordingly, I guess those that love single player games would have been happier.

after waiting a week for a used copy of RE5 for PS3 didn't turn up any of my local gamestops (sigh, besides this one gamestop which would be a 15 minute drive...I figured a closer one might get a copy). I was thinking of exchanging Fallout 3 for that game (B2G1F deal). Now I'm thinking about returning all three (VC, Fallout 3, Killzone 2) and get credit back and buy RE5. What do you guys think?

It's pretty easy to join people's games or let people join in on yours if you don't like the AI for Sheva/Chris. It's usually what I do or just ask some people here on the forums and get their gamer tags to play with. Not a huge issue when you think about it.

dont get me wrong i loved re5, but IMO i enjoyed fallout 3 much more than resident evil, but i dont think i will be trading or selling either one.

are you kidding me, when I left Sheva in attack mode she would run out and get shot and needlessly take damage all the time, the AI in RE5 was pretty bad at times.
dont get me wrong i loved re5, but IMO i enjoyed fallout 3 much more than resident evil, but i dont think i will be trading or selling either one.
I would agree (I'm assuming the enjoyability factor of Resident Evil 5 will be more or less similar to RE4). However, I played the **** out of Fallout 3 (I originally rented it from blockbuster, used that save file to continue progress) so its not really that bad to let it go (if I ever want to blow up moira's head or make another party of charon, fawkes, paladin, etc I think I could find fallout 3 later in the future relatively hassle free). Killzone 2 is kind of boring (felt like a generic shooter but prettier); played the multiplayer and it was enjoyable with the mix up of gameplay but IMO it felt like any other fps. Valkyria Chronicles is a game I owned before (traded that game on CAG), so no problems giving it up (sort of like the game you like to keep but know you'll never play it again).

I went to one gamestop thinking they had a used copy (the person over the phone said he had it and will hold it for me) of RE5, but went there and he fronted something like how he can't sell it cause the local police made them hold all traded in games for 30 days. I was about to return all 3 games so I could just buy a new RE5, but out of curiosity I ask a diff employee and he said that store never had a used copy of RE5 (wtf?). I got annoyed and just left the store. On my way home I went to the gamestop I usually go to to return the games, but that gamestop let me only return 2 out of the three (let me keep a game for free basically^^). I felt kinda bad, and said that I'm piratically getting a game for free and the employee responded that you did buy stuff on B2G1F and the promo was that you get a free game (paraphrasing). So all in all I still have 40ish left in credit, new RE5, and a free game. ^^

*edit* I guess this a little bit of lucky karma or something cause my car got broken into...but I would've rather not had my car broken into.

Sorry, but I just got done playing with a buddy through chapter 4 or so (past the boat boss, w/o much spoiling), and it's still an annoying slog. Dialogue is terrible, characters and objectives come out of nowhere, and I can see some plot twists coming a fucking mile away. It went from hard due to shoddy programming(single player), to just plain boring.

Maybe I didn't like RE4 as much as I thought I did, which is a total mind fuck. I'm glad you guys are enjoying it, but goddamn am I happy to have Gamefly.

I finished the game yesterday, and now I'm playing through amateur to get the achievements and EP.

I don't remember having much trouble with the AI Sheva. The only time that I was frustrated with her was (spoiler for last boss)
she picked up my rocket launcher and wouldn't drop it. Forcing me to restart the section. But she was good at shooting the missiles and damaging the boss when he would pick them up to throw at me.
I did give her a machine gun halfway through (and a sniper rifle when required) and she seems to not waste ammo with it.

Why buy a used copy at Gamestop for $5 less when you can get it at Amazon for the same price new?

doesw anyone know an easy way to get a rotten egg? im on my second play through (chapter5-2) and still havnt found one, do you just get lucky and find one? or is there a way to get one

Maybe you just have to find a regular egg and not play the game for 3 weeks to make it rotten like
The End in Metal Gear Solid 3

Yes the entire game, once you know where everything is and where to go then you can beat every stage in about 5-15 mins more or less

My first play through on normal while exploring and breaking pots/boxes was 8:xx hours, 1 hour on Wesker alone
We couldn't figure out how to kill him with the rocket and we kept running out, if you run out of rockets you can still put him down with a gun
2nd play though on amateur was 3:xx hours
Then we did a Veteran run with infinite ammo and that was the 2 hrs 45 mins, it would've been faster but we died at some parts and that adds to your time

I need to do a Professional run to get my last achievement

Funny how our Veteran times were so short. Mine was about 3 hours as well. But, I also played with somebody who just wanted to run through it so I was lucky.
