Resident Evil 6 - Out Now!

Final Fantasy?

I agree though. I can't think of any legitimate complaints I've read/heard that people have had about it, it's just been people whining that it's different.

My main complaints I have about it are:

The camera. It might just be me but the camera for the public demo does seemed improved over the demo that came with Dragon's Dogma. That one was downright horrible. This one still has issues. It's too zoomed in and restrictive. Several times during Chris's campaign I had enemies about a foot to my left and didn't notice them for several seconds.

I can not stand how you get into cover. In a game like Gears of war you press A to get into cover..simple enough. Here you have to first press LT to aim, then press A. Then to pop out of cover to fire you press up on the left stick and RT to shoot. Keep in mind you can never let go of LT or you'll get completely out of cover.

I'm not to sure how much you'll have to use cover though as you now have a melee button. You press RT to use it. On Chris's campaign I literally ran up on a group of four zombies(I know thats not what there called) with guns and was able to spam RT and not even get shot. I haven't tried Jake's camapaign yet but I was able to do this throughout most of Chris's and Leon's campaign. Maybe the demo is set to easy difficulty or there will be parts later in the game where you can't rely on that, but going off the demo, its overpowered.

These are my three big ones. There are others, mostly nitpicky, but overall I still liked it and am going to get it on release day.

I can understand the cover controls, I don't know why they aren't just a button push, but the camera didn't bother me at all in either demos.

Also melee does have the stamina bar, you can't constantly use it. I died multiple times when I'd just be running around and trying to melee everyone. I think people are over-exaggerating or playing a different demo than I am.

LOL...I didn't even realize there was a stamina bar. I'm going to have to try the demo again now. It still seems overpowered. I hope it was on easy and not the AI being morons because like I said, I literally ran up on four of them, with guns, as they stared at me...then I melee'd them to death without getting shot.

Negative:
I agree that I wished it controlled more like Resident Evil 5. The running in that seemed fluid, where as the characters in this game seem like they're ducking and trying to cross as finish line with their chests.

Also, the thumbs up is just lame. Really, it's like it's 2D animation in a 3D world, so it feels literally flat and poorly animated. Chris and Sheva just saying "thanks" or "here" was much easier. And I don't like that I can't control my partner's inventory and give them things.

Positive:
The shooting I found fine, and I like how in this game I can actually tell my partner who to shoot. If you aim at a target and press the partner button (B or O), it puts an icon above the target's head and your partner becomes much more aggressive in taking them out. It took me a bit to figure out that I had to hit Y (or Triangle) to switch to Leon's dual pistols, as Helena's shotgun is swapped to using the D-Pad for both systems. I wish that had been explained by a prompt in-game.

It's nice that I can physically attack at will, but I do find the attacks overpowered, as noted above. Though there is a stamina meter, you really can do a lot of damage with those attacks in Leon's campaign. It's strange that those attacks are more efficient at times than shooting is.

I have the Archives and Anthology editions pre-ordered, as I really liked Resident Evil 5, though I never finished it on Professional or played it online. I don't like the closeness of the camera, but I hope to get used to it. The online setup they have with the website tracking seems neat, and I hope the challenges Capcom have online will really add a lot of life to playing this game.

It takes 3-4 hits to actually kill an enemy in most cases, so it doesn't seem that overpowered to me. If you could constantly do it, then maybe, but really it's just a logical advancement of the melee in RE4 and 5. Just like the dodging.

Just played through Jake's campaign. It was definitely harder to just run up and melee someone...kept getting shot at...had to keep distance and shoot more. The camera still bugs me...oh well, just going to have to get used to it.

I wanted to get the Archives edition because I heard it was going to be all on discs but apparently that isn't the case. All of those games will eat up my hard drive space.

So I rented the new animated flick from Redbox and I have to say it was very disappointing as I was a big fan of the previous one. Only 3 good things about it to me:

Leon dropping one-liners like crazy.

Sort of becomes a prequel to RE 6 only at the end explaining how Ada Wong gets on the Most Wanted list while showing she's doing someone else's bidding.

Shows a really cool extended RE 6 trailer (no audio though) during the credits.

Just lazily done IMO as it didn't even have any extras, just a bunch of Sony trailers. No one had it in Steelbook form either so I'm waiting for a sale as now my RE movie collection won't all be Steelbooks.

That's funny, cause nearly every complaint I've read about this game is spot on. I'm sure everyone (including me) wants to like this game, but Capcom is making it so hard.

Halo and CoD don't get as much flak (if that's even true) because they don't fuck up their series with each title; debatable, sure, but when Halo adds sprinting or CoD adds some retarded killstreak, somehow they still manage to feel like CoD and Halo. This doesn't feel like Resident Evil, be it the old ones, 4, or even 5. I punched less playing a career in Fight Night than I did in the RE6 demo. This a mediocre action game that has taken some friendly faces and slapped the name of a franchise we loved on the cover, in an attempt to hide their shortcomings.

The movement is shit, the camera is questionable, the enemies are bullet sponges (though not quite as bad as ORC), the inventory/menus are cumbersome and unintuitive, and it's just fucking mediocre. Combine that with the Mercenaries map pre-order BS, the Versus modes being DLC AGAIN, and you have one giant unpromising release. The only thing that will save this game is co-op.

Capcom should take notes from Dead Space, or just remake RE2/3 like RE4.

Its funny because I agree alot with what you said, but yet, I still had fun. By the way, I sympathize with you and others that played this demo and hated it. Sadly its probably not going to get better for yall as i'm sure this is going to sell big just because of the Resident Evil name...ORC sold something like 2 million...this will easily do more then that. Capcom is going to think its because of the changes and are going to stick to more action for future games.

Don't get me wrong, I had fun, but that was due more to me playing with a friend than the gameplay. I didn't hate the demo, I just hate what the series is turning into. RE4 is probably my favorite game of all time; still plays fine to this day.

haha i actually just ran up to enemies and melee everyone as jake since thats what i saw he does best in the trailer.

definitely not a smart move... he has plenty of great weapons at start though. sniper, grenade launcher and powerful pistol

Just wanted to post this here since I was a bit confused as to what exactly the Skill Points were going to be used for: http://residentevil.wikia.com/Skills
Skills are a new gameplay element/mechanic featured in Resident Evil 6. They take the place of upgrading weapons, allowing characters to upgrade abilities with weapons such as firearm damage, reload speed, or steady aim. Other upgrades are available, including attributes such as defense or making a character more effectively handle J'avo or zombies, or even alter the behavior of an AI partner for single-player. Many skills are universal between characters, however there are some unique skills based upon a character and their unique playstyle (such as Leon's dual-wielding or Jake's Hand-to-Hand). Some skills are only unlocked under certain conditions such as killing a certain number of enemies, getting a certain number of kills with a weapon-type or even completing campaigns.

Skills can be bought at the end of a chapter or at any point from the menu. Skill Points that are shared between all characters are obtained during the campaign as well as Mercenaries, and can be used to purchase or upgrade skills. Some skills are available to more than one character, and when they are bought for one character they immediately become available to all applicable characters
Looking through the list, it seems like you don't upgrade specific weapons anymore as you did in RE4/RE5. For instance ammo capacity, reload speed, weapon damage, etc. As long as they fit in the same weapon class (Assault, Shotgun, Rifle, etc.), they all upgrade together. Most seem like they are actual character upgrades.

I wonder if your doing co op with someone if both of you will get the upgrade no matter who picks it up...if not, i'm going to have to make sure to set some ground rules about sharing when I go online.
I wonder if your doing co op with someone if both of you will get the upgrade no matter who picks it up...if not, i'm going to have to make sure to set some ground rules about sharing when I go online.
From what I've understood from the demo, in co-op each player sees their own items on the floor. You never see exactly what your partner sees in terms of items/drops/skill points; it's all separate. For instance, if I see pistol ammo and pick it up, my partner may see it as well even after I had already picked it up; or he/she may see shotgun ammo instead. It seems it is tailored to whatever your specific character is equipped with at that current point in time.

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing nothing is shared and everyone gets their own unique drops (skill points included). With this in mind, I think it would be safe to assume that everyone upgrades their characters separately in co-op, probably linking it to your specific Gamertag/save file (same for your partner) to differentiate from one another.

If anyone is getting the game from Amazon and doesn't want their Mercenaries map code, I had stuff I'd be willing to trade you for it (other DLC codes, Steam Humble Indie Bundles, etc.). Shoot me a PM if so

This game is not doing well in the reviews (destructoid gave it a 3!)

I'm hoping that means it and the archives version will be cheap come black friday. I still want to play it and really want the chance to get HD verisons of RE4 and CV:X. Haven't played RE5 DLC yet either.

I don't know what to make of it. It's probably good but not great and since it's Resident Evil not living up to expectations it's going to score a little worse that it might have otherwise.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. I'm still copping it tonight. It is different and there are problems but I can tell from going off the demo that i'm going to enjoy this. Probably not going to be game of the year or anything for me, but i'm sure i'll like it.

+1

It's still the most anticipated title of the year for me. The demo smoothed over any post-ORC apprehension I may have had in general so I'm still locked for day one. I expect the thread to be primarily negative from here on out due to RE losing its identity complaints, but that alone isn't going to stop me from enjoying the game.

''The second disc will only contain "localised content", including support for multiple languages, and is "virtually redundant" to UK consumers, Capcom has told VideoGamer.com.''

So can I trade my second disc to gamestop?

I don't know what that means. Can I get the whole game on 1 disc or not?

This game annoys til the end. I was so excited to get those achievements & skill unlocks for beating all three campaigns after hours of frustration due to very poor AI & QTEs and then it pops up with:

Ada Wong campaign unlocked

:bomb::bomb::bomb:
Normally I would never EVER agree with a Jim Sterling review of a game but, I have to admit, he nailed the problems with it perfectly. http://www.destructoid.com/review-resident-evil-6-235326.phtml
I'm glad I read this - I enjoy RE when it's kinda crappy and stupid blockbuster cheesy. I had a good time plowing through ORC. Solo. I have no love for survival horror as a genre. I think these games are made for me and possibly only me. I apologize to everyone that was hoping for a quality game, I take full responsibility. Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow.

I highly doubt this isn't a quality game. Some of the things he whines about I have no problem with, like at certain points only one character having to do QTE's.

Jim Sterling rights reviews based on his own personal feelings which most of the time don't line up with that of the normal gamer IMO

Wasn't he the guy who gave Assassins Creed 2 a 2/10?
Pshhh...no.

He gave it a 4.5
Well I was worried about RE6 until I saw this (and he trashed this game in his review for the lazy). ACII is in my top 5 of all time. Bottom line is I'm getting the game cheap on trade ins and reward certs from BB. Plus I've read little about RE6 and can't wait to play it.

From the little I've read seems people were looking for a true RE throwback.

Does this game support local co-op like RE5? If so when does it start? Their are no title screens and the game just loads to single player

I've only played a short bit and have come across a bunch of green herbs and red herbs but I don't see them in my inventory...am I missing something?

Once you complete the tutorial you can setup the campaign as online or offline, split screen, characters, etc.

You can hit Y to bring up full inventory to combine them manually but then you have to hit RB + X to turn them into pills anyway so I would just do that everytime you come across some I guess, unless there's some disadvantage I'm not seeing.
Well the 2nd disk is only to install French, German, and Spanish languages so yeah makes sense that Redbox is renting it now, just don't understand why not on PS3. The game is completely on disk 1 on 360. Didn't even try to put in disk 2 to see if it plays on there.
The picture for Resident Evil 6 doesn't say that it's one disc only like it does for Max Payne 3. That was an assumption. Maybe Redbox does include both discs. You never know.

Thanks. I knoew they explained it in the prologue but I had forgot. Was driving me mad trying to figure it out.
