Rewarding Achievements - Confirmed!

It's a little vague, but it looks like it begins on the 12th. They're only giving out a limited amount though, so it's probably not in your best interests to wait.

It means just what it says, Levels 1 and 2 also get a bump up to the next higher level.

No, it means you're eligible for the level 2 prizes and a free bump up to level 3 for the next challenge, even if you only have 6,500 points.

You're free to do that this time around. I think future contests are going to be themed (get 500 points in a racing game), or for specific games (get Son of Sun in Zuma).

For some Xbox Rewards Challenges, you will need to have access an Xbox 360™ console with a memory unit or a hard drive, an Xbox Live Gold or Silver-level subscription, and specific Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade games.

blah so that means i have to get a 1000 ponits in a week to be level3 then 1500 more in a month ... i think i will be renting some old sports games
 
hmm, i'm reading "annual gamerpoints"..does this mean, it only counts which you have earned in the past year? or since the beginning of this year?

"Rewards Levels are based on how many Gamerscore you gain each calendar year."

Yes. But apparently not this time around since it's just starting out they're calculating your total and also giving some free bumps.
 
I like this contest. Only problem is that I doubt I'll be able to get the 3,000+ points before the contest starts to get to Level 3. I'll look for some old sports games and try to get it within the next week. Would have been nice to have a little bit more warning about this, but I praise Microsoft for making the achievement points worth something. Fuzion Frenzy 2 is a cool prize, also.

I think it's:

Our gamerscore now (10,000 + for me) then we need to get an additional 1500 to get the prize.

So at our current gamerscore we qualify for the prize but we need the extra 1500 to obtain the prize.

Yea I think I said the same thing twice :)

Nevermind, I get it now. Your current gamerscore lands you into one of the three tiers. Get the 1500 points for the challenge and win the prize based on your tier. I'm sure the minimum gamerscore will go up for future challenges.

It's a good thing MS made the controller durable enough to take that kind of abuse.

The sad thing is that those aren't nearly the hardest achievements around. I'd still like a consolation prize for suffering through that.

P.S. I am trading away that game and may never play another CoD game again.

Will people EVER be satisfied? First it was "blah blah nerds point are good for nothing except your ePeen" and now it's "blah blah the shit they're giving away for FREE isn't good enough"? People seriously need to realize that achievements are just for fun.
 
So, if you can't get 1500 points after you've signed up, you don't get jack?

That's pretty lame. I've got Viva Pinata and Lost Planet that I haven't played much of, but I still doubt if I can find enough time to get 1500 out of them. Don't plan on buying any other games for quite a while.

I don't think it's amazing, but to call it pathetic is a low blow. No one is forcing you to participate, and it's absolutely free. If I cared about the things they were offering it would be great incentive to play.

Unfortunately the way it's set up pretty much advocates for renting a lot of easy achievement games / accumulating meaningless points. I think it'll be better once they start to hone down achievements (i.e. get THIS achievement, get a prize).

If I ever have a game that I like/bought for that reason, and they give me a t-shirt for unlocking a hard achievement in it, then I'd be a pretty happy camper.

The service can only get better, and this is an alright jumping off point. Better than what Sony and Nintendo are offering stateside, anyway, might even encourage them to offer more to their fans.
 
Well, I'm sure I won't get past level 1 but Free Contra is cool.

Plus I'm sure this will help flood the market with cheap copies of Fuzion Frenzy 2.

If we need to play certain games to get the points someone please make sure to post the list when it shows up.
 
Certainly an interesting business decision -- prizes for the pissing contest. Promotes the Live service, the 360 platform, certain games, and the sponsor (in this case, Old Spice).

It *could* be a good reason to keep games rather than selling or trading. (Yet, Gamefly and Gameznflix are each a nice end run, if not used games retailers after a price drop.)

I don't think you are even guranteed to win. It sounds to me like once you get to the 1,500 gamerpoints that you are eligible to win, but not gauranteed anything. But if I can get a copy of fuzion frenzy 2 I am all over this.

It seems guarenteed but they are taking the "Supplies are limited" way out just in case they do run out of something.

Right now I play that waiting game until the 12th. I just earned 100 points today in COD3 which I could have saved until then :(

From my understanding, certain prizes may be more limited than others. I assume they're refering to Fuzion Frenzy 2. I doubt they've produced a limited quantity of gamer pic codes.

Either way, I'm sure I could scrunge up the 1500 points from my collection.

Oh yeah, can anyone tell me what the tears of the folks that were 100% positive gamerscores were never going to be worth anything taste like?

Because I'm pretty sure they taste like freebies.
 
WHaaaaaaaaaat? I am so confused. Does this mean that if I manage to get my 1500 gamer points by that date I will get a free copy of Fuzion Frenzy 2? Hell. Sounds worth it to me.

I'm alittle upset they aren't counting current gamerpoints too much into the equation (I could have easily gotten the 1500 points by waiting a bit, then grabbing them later) but this is still good news. The items are FREE. Even if you only got 100 points, how the hell can you complain about this?

Loving MS right now.

Edit: Looking into the fine print and taking a DEEP breaths I have to come to the realization that the Fuzion Frenzy 2 copies will be limited, the question is how many? I'm guessing upwards of a thousand copies, but I'm sure others will beat me to the punch. Still free Contra sounds fine by me.

ya I was pissed when I got an achievement in Rainbow six vegas earlier today. Could have saved it. Oh well. WIth nba street and crackdown coming out on the 20th I am sure I will get over 1,000 points there. Plus I will still have the rest of march. I don't even know what games are coming out in march, but surely there is something good. (I believe GRAW2)

There are games that reward gamerpics with achievements, the only one I can think of off hand is Outpost kaloki X, and I believe Cloning Clyde might also.

Yeah, I know about those but some of the achievement pics are pretty cool that I would love to be able to use them as gamerpics.
 
I like this contest, sucks that I've already got Contra but hey it's free sh!t so you can't really complain.

For people who are looking for points to get up the Levels before the 12th remember there are some games with very easy points. King Kong and FIFA: Road to the World Cup spring to mind for an easy 2000.

Hmm, after looking at the website it seems there will be different challanges for different levels, so I guess the lvl 3 challanges will be tougher than the others.

If they think I'm playing endless games of Texas Hold'em trying to get a royal flush they can bloody forget it :)

Although I see this is open to Live Silver members, so I'm guessing ranked multiplayer achievements are out.
