That mech is an ugly color. I want blue darn it. MSFT can't do anything right.

My dilemma is whether to go for another 3180 points before Monday. Can it be done? Probably: Madden 06, College Hoops 2k6, NBA Live 06, and bunch of random achievements to mop up from my library.

Is it worth it? No, it would be much better and more lucrative for me to do real work. But, dammit, I want to part of the Level 3 club.

Could you just unplug Live until then, play, and BOOM (Tough actin' Tinactin) have your 1500 points?

Hell, I only have 1600 right now from a month of play time. There's no way I'm making Level 2 by then.
Pretty sure your score is tied into your gamer account which works online or off.
Live reads your score from the last time you were online. Not online, score (on Live) doesn't increase.

I'm just wondering if they are going to make you sign in on your console that day, too.

ahhh, i can see the complainers running to Major Nelson's blog now..

OMGZ I NEVAR G0T MY PR1ZE!!11!

XB0X SUX C0X!

yeaaaaa, i'm not really interested.
I still don't get what "An experience upgrade to Xbox Rewards Level 2" means.
It means exactly what it says. One of the rewards is that you're upgraded to Level 2 for next time, even if you don't have enough points for it.

If you look at your achievements, they are date stamped. If you're going to try and game the system, change the date on your console to somewhere between 2/21 and 4/21. I don't see that an extra two weeks will make much of a difference.

Two months should be enough to rack up 1500 points with Crackdown and all the other new and recent releases.
WHat are the game restrictions though for the 1500 points? Thanks for updating the op mods
I think zero this time around, they just hinted there may be some in the future (specialized competitions).
Time to break out King Kong if you haven't already. Easiest 1000 points to get.
My GS marked it up $7 in the last few days. Tossers.

The NBA 2K6 achievements are the easiest I know of. I got all 1000 in one game (< 1/2 hour). King Kong was an 8-hour death march through a mediocre FPS for the full 1000. Not hard like CoD 2, but painful in a different way.

Link to an old guide for an easy 6000 points:

Almost started playing King Kong the other day, with that and Madden 2006, ill have 2000 points in about a day.

edit: Where did my ability to spell go?

edit 2: I can't even fucking spell correctly in the fucking edit note about fixing a spelling error.

Yeah, I don't like sports games but I've had King Kong and Gun in my collection to play for a while now. Looks like it'll be time. Of course, once you blow off the easy points the contests will start getting harder and you'll wish you hadn't.
Hopefully future contests lets you spend previously earned points, it doesnt seem quite right for M$ to only reward new gamers.
I think that is why they made levels, 0-4999, 4999-10000, and 10000+ so people with old points wouldn't feel like those were worthless. They are giving gamers with the most current points, the biggest possible prize which is a full blown game.

I think I am going to stick in my current 0-4999 range until the start, it looks like the 4999-10000 group got hosed, with the 100 points. I would much rather have Contra. There is no way I am going to get up to 10000 points by the start, although Fusion Frenzy is obviously the best prize.

as levels get higher (from 1 to 2 to 3), you get teh previous levels' prize too...so level 2 will get 100 points AND contra AND a tshirt

Speaking of easy achievements, holy crap is Fuzion Frenzy 2 simple for racking 'em up! You get 50 points every time you win a tournament with a new character -- which can take as little as 15 minutes if you're good and you make the AI dumb. Win with all 6 characters, and you get 150 for unlocking all mini-games. Play 'em all (can do individually for the stragglers), and you get another 150. Online points are easy to get, too. I have 700 from the game, and I played about 5 hours total.

but I'm not going to buy the game if I am playing to win it.

So, if I have 9700ish points at the start of this thing, and get 1500 more, am I in level 2 or 3?

Neat idea and all, but could Msoft have explained this thing any poorer?

Get 10000 by Feb 12th, and you should be tier 3. Then you have til April to get the 1500.

And yeah, it couldn't have been explained any worse.

It looks like maybe GS has already raised prices in anticipation. Madden 06 was $14.99 used (up from $11.99 - that's what I paid since the sticker was still on it). King Kong was $24.99 used - up from $17.99 online).

I don't know how EB/GS computer prices work, but these prices in store definetly got raised as the employee basically stated so.
wheres a link to this level thing. Like what they are doing?
Perhaps you could read the first post?

Aw gay, I thought you got that stuff for just getting 10,000 and signing up and the other 1500 was for something else.

....I've got alot more work than I thought.

Hmm.. what I'm doing right now is leaving my 360 disconnected from Live while I pull in some more points towards the 1500. Then once I've signed up, I'll connect again so the numbers get updated and I should be good to go, or atleast pretty close. I guess that works?

I'd rather not risk something lame happening and get as many points as I can before the 12th (it says while supplies last on Fuzion Frenzy).
Just about done with Madden 06 tonight, now I need about 5 more old sports games before the 12th
OK, I'm new to this. What is it about old Sports games? Are they easier to get points for, or just cheap to acquire?

I have yet to buy a 360, but I have a few games and this might just be the push to get me to buy one this weekend. I understand the full game being limited in quantity, but are they really going to limit Contra and the dashboard theme? I'll be pretty pissed if those run out in the first few weeks .

I bought cabelas african safari today and got 200 something points in about an hour of play.

If you want easy points go with this game. I stopped playing as I think I will save the rest of the points until this reward challenge starts.

That was when developers were first diving into the achievement system, so yeah, the '06 sports games have some pretty easy achievements.

Ah, gotcha...

OK, right now my 360 library consists of Tomb Raider Legend (clearance at TRU), the 3 Burger King games, and Bankshot Billiards (in the clearanced Live kit that I just bought).

I will also probably buy the Arcade Unplugged disc (cheap via GR credit) and possibly Table Tennis and Oblivion.

It looks like I'd get 550 from Tomb Raider just by playing through and completing the game - then possibly more with time trials and bronze/silver/gold reward collecting. Looks like there some easy ones in the BK games and arcade games. Not sure I'd want to get into Oblivion just yet, but that would probably top me off.

I guess I'm somewhat at an advantage with a blank slate - I can grab all the low-hanging fruit that many of you already have! But this does mean I have to buy a 360 soon, and I've been putting that off...

EB/GS is a business, and their goal is to make money, so I can't malign them for raising prices. Even if they didn't raise prices on the Achievement Rewards news, a decent inventory tracking system would notice higher sales of easy achievement games and raise prices to meet the higher demand (ECON 101).

Last time I checked, EB/GS had a policy where you could return used games within ~7 days and apply the purchase price to other used games. If you use that policy, you could pick up the easy games, get the achievements in a few days, and return/trade them for credit on used games you actually want.

Any problems with that plan? Other than the store having stock of the easy games and some other used games you actually want.

I don't think that will work, you need to be signed into xbox live to sign up for the promo and then it will count your points from there.

So I thought of another thing - I have some free game rentals (both Blockbuster and Hollywood). What games are best for renting and being able to rack up points within a rental period (and probably no more than, say, 8 hours of play total)? Sounds like Fusion Frenzy might be a good one, actually. Any others? I'm not that into playing the old sports games.

Unfortunately, old sports games pretty much have the lock. There's also King Kong and possibly Gun. Kameo may also be doable fast enough. Those are the three I plan to use. I know I can get 1000 from KK, so I just need to get 500 from other sources.

Bionicle: Heroes gives you at least 20 points per relatively quick level you play through -- along with plenty of 20-point bonuses. Play through 2 levels, you'll get 80 points.

King Kong gives you 100 points per level beaten. I'd say levels average an hour each.

Fight Night Round 3 gives 100 points per sponsored fight. I'd say it'd take an hour and a half to get to each of those.

I got mad points on both Amped 3 and Condemned, and actually really enjoyed my time with both.

Kameo, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, and Gun all are liberal with the points.

To a lesser extent, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Rainbow Six Vegas, Tony Hawk's Project 8, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Dead Rising, and LEGO Star Wars II all hand out some decent achievement points (200-350 pretty easily), and I'd say they're more fun than the other group above.

For Xbox Live Arcade games, oldies like Pac-Man and Galaga are good. I also recommend Uno.

If you want quick points, stay away from most racing games (except Test Drive), Quake 4 (only 160 points through beating single-player), and Sonic and Bomberman Act: Zero -- because ithey suck all-around.
