This would be an easy way to snag most of the Lupin the Third second series DVDs for anyone interested in them - I doubt you'll find a better price unless Geneon puts them in a box set.
Also 3 of them come with Choro Q cars of the Lupin characters. That's a huge bonus for me since I love choro Q.

I wish they had the movie sets on sale as well, although it's wierd cause they are produced by an entirely different company.
Yeah, Lupin's licensing is all kinda of wonky, as four companies presently have hte rights to produce Lupin DVDs for the U.S. market.
More if you count the live action movie and people who had liscences and then lost them (like Animeigo).
More if you count the live action movie and people who had liscences and then lost them (like Animeigo).
I wish Animeigo would lose the license to Urusei Yatsura. That deserves a proper dub and decent looking packaging.

It'd be nice if Shawne is able to get the ROD and Kyo Kara boxes in stock (especially before my order ships so I can swap them!).
More if you count the live action movie and people who had liscences and then lost them (like Animeigo).
I was referring to Discotek as one of the four companies (they put out the live action movie DVD in subbed form last year). Right now, Manga, Funimation, Manga, and Discotek can release Lupin DVDs, while Animeigo can only finish up their stock of "Rupan" Fuma Clan DVDs.

Does this mean that the voices for the main cast will change depending on which company makes the dvd?
I was seriously thinking of getting the movie packs at the DD sale, but I dont know if I can enjoy them as much if I have to get use to an entirely new voice/ delivery style.
I really enjoyed the voices on the tv series that they played on adult swim.

Yeah since that'll be a hot seller

In for Fafner, Gad Guard and the rest of Gun X Sword that I'm missing. My wallet screams and my anime backlog grows larger and larger.

I know I did the same thing in the DDD sale thread but is there any recommendations for an anime noob who's just getting into it? So far I seem to like anime with a "clean" style and animation that is somewhat close to realistic, such as in Blood+ and RahXephon. I also really like Naruto and Bleach (not so much for the style but because the story and action is so damn good).

Well I posted a couple, but Gungrave is pretty awesome. Practically half of the staff of Trigun made it, so it's similar in style to that. It takes a Yakuza to sci-fi turn half way through the show and is pretty awesome throughout (excluding the first episode). Fighting Spirit is another "realistic" show that is amazing in both animation and story.

What have you watched and not liked?
I wish Animeigo would lose the license to Urusei Yatsura. That deserves a proper dub and decent looking packaging.
I just wish that all of the volumes didn't go off of Deep Discount a while ago, otherwise I would have picked up a few more during this sale and used Right Stuf to fill in the ten-volume gaps elsewhere.

Oh well. UY is going to be the "takes forever to acquire" title for me. Little disposable income for a while makes it that the $100 sets from Right Stuf so enticing yet still financially impossible.

Actually I just bought the entire Gungrave collection not too long ago but I've yet to watch it. I'm gonna watch Hellsing first and then I'll move on to that one. I'm just padding my collection right now while all these deals are going on. Never heard of Fighting Spirit though. I'm gonna look around on Youtube and Veoh first to see if I can find an episode or two to preview and I may just give that a purchase if I like it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Animeigo usually runs sales over the summer and tosses the volumes down to ten bucks a pop which is usually the best you'll find them for (assuming you don't have a well stocked used section at a moviestop).

I'm having a hard time deciding my last pick:

Patlabor WXIII
Chobits Vol. 1

I've never seen anything related to either. Should I go for those, or something else?

The rest of my order:
Fighting Spirit 1
Haibane Renmei 1-4
Serial Experiments Lain 1
Last Exile 1
Paranoia Agent 1
R.O.D. the TV 1

Also, do you guys think everything will still be in stock on Friday? I'm getting some money then and may be able to do a $100 order.

I'd say wait until Friday. If you don't go with Patlabor 3. Chobits started out with an interesting premise but eventually degraded into "wow my retarded robot girlfriend sure is sexy". I like a decent amount of Clamp stuff but Chobits is a degree or two away from nerd porn, and Hand Maid May did a better job of being nerd porn while being based on a similar subject.

Will I be able to understand Patlabor 3 without having seen any other Patlabor?

Also, does anyone have an opinion on the Armitage set? How are those movies?

HAHAHA Furyk Nice "Nerd Porn" ..... Sorry Its just really funny to me.

Hoping More of the boxes come back in (ROD and Kyo Kara) and Ippo 14. HMM was really just fan service with robots but I still think it was OK.

Ergo Proxy (see my sig image), Paranoia Agent, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Witch Hunter Robin (not everyone likes this, but I do)...
Ergo Proxy (see my sig image), Paranoia Agent, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Witch Hunter Robin (not everyone likes this, but I do)...
Ergo Proxy...a friend of mine who's a casual anime fan is interested in that one just based on what he's seen on the box art & their website. So it's really good then? Any chance of finding a deal on that anytime soon, or is it still rather new?
Okay, thanks. Will I be able to understand Patlabor 3 without having seen any other Patlabor?

Patlabor is kind of dense material to get through especially if you don't care for more realistic mecha shows. It helps to have seen some Patlabor before this, but it's not essential. The Artimage films (both of them) are pretty fun and fast paced. If you want to pass on the first film, you can also get a lunch box with the LE set of the second.

Argyle: Your best bet is to hit up your local FYE which is running B1/G1 on Geneon DVDs. I believe Best Buy has the first volume of Ergo Proxy with the soundtrack for 15 clams (no box though). It's sort of like a cross between Serial Experiments Lain, Blade Runner, and the Island. Ergo Proxy, while a good show, thinks its a lot deeper then it actually is.

Maklershed: Paranoia Agent is a fine show. It's the only show that Guile mentioned that's part of this sale (though Witch Hunter Robin can be picked up very cheap).

ill tell EVERYBODY in this thread to PLEASE check out GUNGRAVE...it is absolutely amazing...i just finished watching it *drools*...absolutely brilliant IMO

Thought I'd chime in. Based on someone's recommendation I grabbed all of Last Exile in last year's sale. It's very good.

Anybody recommend 2 stand alone dvds? I have 8 dvds in my cart now and I don't feel like buying half a series just to get to 10.

Um, I posted a bunch of suggestions in the original post. With two DVDs, Magical Project S is a pretty safe bet. It's quite funny and has the added bonus of having Tenchi characters.

Phantom Quest Corp. Akira.

Not a big fan of Akira. But I'll check the other one out. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads-up! My local EB/GS locations used to be sick for anime deals (especially since I was able to pick up plenty of pristine Miyazaki/Ghibli DVDs for $13 a pop) but those days have long passed. Now it's either bootlegs, $15 a shot, or random volumes of "bleh".

The Patlabor XIII movie is okay. You see it on discount everywhere, but I think that'ss due to overproduction. Not quality.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...there's no way I'm passing up $4 Geneon DVDs. Would have preferred a FUNimation sale (as I have absolutely no series' from FUNimation), but this will do just fine! Wish more of the old series' from last time had some art boxes (other than Burn-Up)...

Was pretty hesitant to jump on Ippo, but I've heard nothing but good things from everyone.

Got a 5th order in the queue...(Saiyuki Reload, Ultramaniac). Can anybody comment on Stellvia? I'm about 11 DVDs short of another 25. I'd also like to pick up Doki Doki School Hours, but it's missing vol 4 (looks like it'll be restocked at some point...hopefully along with the R.O.D. box!).

Seeing what you've got so far Ndolger, I'd say you're pretty much set I haven't seen any of Stellvia. You might want to give Mermaid's Forest a try (also a Rumiko Takahashi show) or Someday's Dreamers (same people who did Lain/Texhnolyze).

Edit: Just saw you've seen Someday's Dreamers.

i have 25 items in my cart and when i try to apply the code it tells me i am missing one or more but there are exactly 25 in my checkout cart. any help?

Squall, make sure that they are all part of the sale and also make sure you havent accidentally put more then one of the same dvd by accident.

Also check to make sure that none of them have gone out of stock while you were checking out.
holy jebus @ Ndolger. :O Thats going to take you like a year to watch all of that.
Oh more than that. =X I'm still only about 30% done with the last Geneon sale where I got 100 DVDs as well. I really need to quit my job. But, then I couldn't afford these deals...a horrible dilemma.
i have 25 items in my cart and when i try to apply the code it tells me i am missing one or more but there are exactly 25 in my checkout cart. any help?
Check your cart again...you might have encountered a cart explosion. If you leave it in there too long the cart will empty. A way to combat this is to put everything in your wishlist and bring it up to "shopping cart" when you're ready to buy.

Or there may be items in your cart that don't apply to the sale (even though it says it does). There was a problem last time with this. You couldn't add certain Tenchi titles and have the discount apply.

Edit: Noodle is probably right. Make sure you don't have 2 of the same title.

woohoo....i'm glad this sale is back. I skipped it last time but this time I jumped on it!

Gungrave 1-7
Koi Kaze 1-3

big fan of both..though I've already watched them a long time ago I said to myself one day I will own these on dvd. And voila thank you Rightstuf!

Gungrave personally is one of my top...4? Only series I can really place at the top of my list are Gungrave, KGNE/Rumbling Hearts, Kenshin OAVs, and Koi Kaze.

And for the person wondering about Stellvia. I thought it was a really good watch. Stellvia might be in my top somewhere too lol. It starts out lighthearted but ends up going into very sci-fi and drama territory. I really liked the sci-fi portion of the show.

I guess time to wait for another funimation sale so I can pick up KGNE and i guess some fillers...

I'm looking to pick up Ai Yori Aoshi/Enishi, Burn Up Scramble, Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, the Azumanga cds, the Samurai Champloo cds, the second Last Exile cd, Niea Under 7, and maybe Ultra Maniac or some combination thereof. I definately have to bow out of buying a bunch of manga from DD 20% sale because of this, doh!

Squall: Did you get the three CD set? People on Animeondvd were having problems with it apparently.

imascrub: Koi Kaze? Really?... I don't mean to judge, but really?

Make sure you count correctly. Also make sure you use the right coupon code.

For people who bought from the previous sale: Were there any problems with stock running out? Considering the lenght of the sale, I assume they will re-stock eventually, but I'm still a bit worried about my wishlist going out of stock. Thanks for any tips.
