I just found out that the Samurai Champloo re-release is going to include all the original 7 discs (instead of 4 like some sites are advertising). So, for $40, it's not a bad deal.

*video
Good to know that Geneon isn't (or being forced to) following Funimation's style of cramming 6 or 7 episodes into one disc.

What's the deal with Geneon? I thought they were bankrupt.

Geneon isn't bankrupt, they just pulled out of the US Market. Pretty good timing on their part, IMO.

Anyone else feeling that Funimation is turning into the ADV of the 90s anime scene? How long before they spring for too many licenses, have insufficient resources to get them all translated and released, and end up collapsing in on themselves?

Difference being that Funimation has a lot of their money invested in Shonen shows which bring them a lot of revenue (I assume) where as ADV was much more into what the "anime fans" where looking for and more niche products. At least thats the way I see it.

Granted that doesn't mean that Funi still can't overreach itself , but for the time they seem pretty safe.

Been thinking of buying a bunch of Bargain bin dvds, A lot of series I;'ve been wanting to get I can get dirt cheap. Is there free shipping if I spend a certain amount?

Geneon hasn't pulled out of the US market either. They basically just decided to stop in house manufacturing and distribution of dvds and worked up a deal with funimation who had a superior distribution chain.

Geneon still licenses, dubs, subs, and does all the work on there series and sends them to funimation to mass produce, package, and ship. A geneon rep a while back said it is actually cheaper for them this way and they were able to lower their costs by about 6%.

$49+ (US) gets free shipping.

New sale up, and it looks nice....until you look at the prices and realize those are the sale prices...

Noticed one new thing worth mentioning in the new Weekly Specials.

Genshiken Complete Collection (Economy) for $23.99.
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/9VjqpQnNPMxevrF35-/browse/item/72456/4/153/0

I don't know much about it, but I remember some people on CAG liked it.

On yeah, and Princess Tutu complete collection for $26.99. Personally, I'm not interested, but certain others (KL) would demand that you buy it...
It's so good!!
I have no actual comment- Kirin's just right enough that it needed to be repeated. ;)

Even for a straight male college student? I mean, fighting ballerinas doesn't sound like the most compelling story... to me, anyway.

Even for you, yes! It's an amazing dark fairy tale with compelling characters and a phenomenal story - definitely not the fluffy show it seems to be from the title and artwork. I mean, near the end, a character is being chased by hooded figures with axes who want to chop off his hands! That's not fluffy at *all*!

It's not really about fighting ballerinas- that's more of a vehicle for the visuals than a weapon (it ain't Shonen Jump, y'know.)

It's a fairy tale- but it's a proper fairy tale, not the cleaned-up Disneyesque type where they leave out things like stepsisters cutting off their toes and getting their eyes poked out by birds, and why does no one ever talk about the Singing Bone anymore, that's a really good sto... *ahem* sorry, tangent.

Just give it a try. Seriously. (Why do I feel like I'm trying to give a cigarette to a 13 year old?)

You guys have convinced me- i already have it, but i've been neglecting it. I guess i'll finally try it out.

Also, my El Hazard 1 DVD was cancelled, but Part 2 was shipped to me. fuck. Part 1 isn't even listed anymore.

Every fiber of my being is telling me "Black Lagoon S2 is on sale! BUY IT! DO IT NOW!!!" And I really want to. But $30 for 12 episodes is still steep. If I got something else to get the free Hellsing bag, which would probably be Air Gear (and I can see Kirin cringing now), the total would up to $72. UUUUGGGHHH!!!

I cringed at both Black Lagoon *and* Air Gear. Ugh, terrible, both of them. ;)

Don't let him get you down, BL is actually pretty good. I do agree that it's a huge cliche of every anime ever made, but that didn't make it any less exciting, and one story arc in particular definitely scared me.

^^Yeah, I've seen maybe 80% of the show. I already have S1 so I've seen all of it. As for S2, I was DVRing it when it was on Encore Action a while back but... it was evil. They showed all the episodes EXCEPT the last episode for each arc. If it was a marketing ploy, it worked, since now I really want to see how everything is resolved, especially the last arc.

As for Air Gear, I like Tenjho Tenge (lol, more cringes) so I want to give that a shot since it's by the same creator.

Air Gear was awesome IMO, sucks that the ending was so abrupt
Air Gear was awesome IMO, sucks that the ending was so abrupt
And is currently streamable from Netflix. :D
Very.

Anyway, since I killed Kirin with my horrible taste in anime.... I say we split his collection among us. :)
If New Dominion Tank Police, Queen Emeraldas and/or the Sonic movie are in there, I call dibs.

Anyhoo- I've only seen 2 episodes of Black Lagoon, and my inital reaction was Die Hard: the Anime. It just seemed to have a lot in common with a US action flick, so if that's your style, then enjoy.

I have not seen Air Gear or Tenjho Tenge, I only know they make cool Pinky:st dolls and if I could have any anime power, I want control over my body fat like Emi. (Always a perfect 10 regardless of weight, and who needs a purse?)

Yeah, right down to the I-don't-give-a-rat's-ass-about-you unlikable characters and scenarios. Black Lagoon is definitely near the top of my list of overhyped disappointments, right alongside Trigun and Gurren Lagann.

Oh, and my collection is getting cremated with me. I want to be as selfish in death as I was in life. :D

Maybe that's why I like BL. I like Die Hard. Yippy kai yay, motherfuckers.

Indeedy, but highly useful in our 'all women over size 2 are fat' society. It's easier than a crash diet, that's for sure.

Hey, you're dead, you don't get a say anymore- you just get to haunt us after we steal your stuff. Y'know, scratching up our copies of Trinity Blood and playing the Utena soundtrack in the middle of the night.

Thanks to this comment and this comment alone I shall have every iteration of Absolute Destiny Apocalypse cycling through my head all night long.

At least I'll know that if I ever open up my Trinity Bloods (that are still sealed from the Best buy sale), if they're scratched up, Kirin did it.

Hey, Clannad Vol 2 and Princess Resurrection Vol 2 finally shipped after being on order from manufacturer for a whole month. Hooray.

Oh, and Air Gear was awesome. The only problem with Air Gear is the ending.

Air gear was ok if you want a mindless show. Its just formulaic and predicatable as heck.

To steal a bit from ANN's review which I agree with 100%.

It does very little that isn't done in innumerable major shonen series. Brash young hero who quickly discovers that he's a prodigy at a new activity he's introduced to? Check. Said hero learning the rules and ways of the new activity as the viewer is introduced to them? Check. Overblown action scenes? Check. Heavily caricatured characters? Check. Special named moves and powers? Check. Veterans of said activity amazed at how quickly the hero is mastering said activity? Check. Cute, flirtatious love interest? Check. Girl hero lives with who secretly has a crush on him? Check. Said hero getting bashed around for his real or perceived perversities? Check. Organization within said activity that has various named ranks which a participant must rise through to be considered top-rate? Check. Gangs of masked flunkies? Check.

That being said its not a bad show, it just doesn't have much impact IMO.

Black Lagoon is excellent and worthy of purchase. I haven't seen all of Air Gear yet, but I have enjoyed the first few episodes. It's different if nothing else.
Black Lagoon is excellent and worthy of purchase.
Too bad it's not on sale anymore... :whistle2:( I waited too long. I was going to pick that up with Suzuka.

EDIT: I just realized that they upped the price on the site so that they could feature it on their coupon sale. $29.99 is the price it's been for a while now for both box sets. Do you guys think they'll lower the price once this coupon is over again so it stays at that $29.99 price tag?

Well, it was part of their weekly sales before, IIRC. The only difference is that now you need to put a code in to get it for $30.

TSRI is starting to piss me off. I ordered all the Cowboy Bebop Remix volumes, and only two of them had the cardboard slipcovers. Also, the corners were way worn on my Rahxephon movie box set that they sent me. I mean, good prices are good prices, but why can't they just get it right?... (and in case you couldn't tell--yes, I'm a perfectionist).

I'm still loving TSRI, although i admit they're not the best about slipcovers. Twice now, i've placed orders and they haven't had them, and they were random volumes too. Maybe we should start asking about slipcovers before we order....nah, too much work ;)

I couldn't believe that price, until I checked and saw that season 2 hasn't been released yet, so this is only 13 episodes. It's still definitely worth it. Funny, nice plot, and good art.
Season one stands fine on its own, but buy it so they'll get season 2 back on the schedule! The first disk was originally scheduled to come out today, but now it's TBA ...

My Chavelier D'eon vol 5 didn't come with the slipcover either- it is rather vexing. (I'd actually buy that thing from someone. Seriously. The boxset looks weird without it.)

Yeah my volume two and three of Cowboy Bebop Remix did not have the slipcovers. I bought a volume two and three off of eBay that had the slipcovers in order for my collection to look normal.

Oh, did you order Cowboy Bebop Remix Vol 4? If you did then be prepared to send it back to Bandai for a replacement. My volume four was fucked up; the last two episodes on the disc froze, skipped, and had a shit ton of artifacts.

Man, that stinks. Yeah, I got everything from TSRI. They even included a piece of paper in the shipment saying that there were known problems (although rare, supposedly) with Vol. 4 of CB Remix. I'm getting the feeling that I should have just kept the stackpack/brick. Next time I'm going to add "Make sure my crap has slipcovers" in the checkout notes or something. Maybe that will help. Also maybe something about quality control, so I can get a box that's not beat up...

Also, I got Scrapped Princess in the mail today. $10 shipped (brick version) from eBay in mint condition. :p (although the FMA stuff I got yesterday was not "mint" at all, like the seller described... *sigh* something else to resell. eBay has its ups and downs).

Alright, then you should probably check the last two episodes of your Cowboy Bebop Remix Vol. 4--make sure you check after the opening--because your copy is probably broken. Their this-is-a-rare-ocurrence thing seems like a bunch of horse shit to me. Oh, it took Bandai a couple days to send me the RMA form; USPS says they received the disc, so hopefully Bandai doesn't take too long to send me a replacement.

That was one of my two ;)

(Other is X Vol. 8)

Sometimes those slipcovers were only including on the first pressing or something. It's not TRSI's fault that you didn't get a slipcover.
