For someone a little more in the vein of Teena Marie there is Anastacia. Not sure if a lot of people in the US have heard of her though. She's from the US but hit it big in Europe some years ago. She's a bit more pop than Teena Marie, but she does have some R&B songs. She does have a ridiculously big voice like her though.

EDIT: I knew "Ooo La La La" sounded familiar- The Fugees ripped it off!
