If you don't want to schlep this stuff home, Amazon is offering up free shipping.
EB/GS are charging an extra $10 shipping charge.

Release date is November 20th. It is also conceivable that this stuff could be very hard to find during the holiday season.
I just emailed them about the gold box price, figured it can't hurt. If I get credit I might use it to upgrade to overnight shipping!

Thanks for the heads up!

HOLY CRAP - Less than 5 minutes after I sent the email I got a reply saying the gold box discount should apply and they took 5% off my order!
Same here. I emailed them today and 5 mins later they gave me the price adjustment. So $161.50 is a decent deal with free shipping.
My amazon pre-order has shown a ship date of 11/26. I assumed it was because of the large amount of pre-orders...
If you use the FREE shipping they offer you get that ship date. If you use the standard shipping or faster it says shipping 11/20. Ordered mine today.

Well, it's time to check out Amazon Prime, I was bumped up a week of when I would get it from Amazon when I decided to try out prime.

I love you CAG.

I wasn't sure whether or not I personally received the Gold Box offer, so I decided to e-mail them inquiring if I can get it. Six minutes later, I received this e-mail:

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

The discounts we offer on items on our web site do vary from time to
time. I've checked your order, and found that
we recently offered a discount on "Rock Band Special Edition" in the
gold box offer.

Since this item has not yet shipped, I have adjusted the price to
reflect the discounted price. This is the price you will
be charged when the order ships.

On the date of shipment, you should receive an e-mail message
confirming the date, contents, and method of your shipment.

Thanks again for shopping at Amazon.com.
Simply awesome. I love you CAG!

Yeah, because of the discount I upgraded my shipping to Overnight and it's still only costing me $176 total. It's times like these that make me glad to be a part of this community.

I emailed them with basically the same text...didn't work for me

"Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

Please accept my sincere apology for any inconvenience that may have
caused you due to this misunderstanding and please allow me to
explain.

I checked your issue and I'm sorry to say that the gold box offer is
different for each customer. If the gold box provide offers for 10
items to your friend that won't be similar to your offer because you
will be given offer for other 10 items. The gold box offer items may
vary from customer to customer."

Should I call?

Well, I just placed my preorder....I think im just giving into the hype of this game.

But I will try the email later on....I just placed it so I think it may look a bit suspicious.

hmmm maybe I should have bought both ps3 and 360 rockband in case one is worse than the other, I can return one. Looks like the first batch is bound to sell out.

Why should you call? It was that guy's gold box, not yours... he just probably didn't know it was his only.

good to see people are getting this in the gold box... i'll be sure to check every day for it to pop up so i can e-mail them about it.

sent 2 emails

first was a no go

second was "we're sorry for any inconvenience we caused you. Your price is now $161"

Hell yeah... thanks to whoever broughts this up

i played the demo at best buy. the guitar is pretty weird. there are 5 buttons at the tip and 5 buttons near the end of the neck. the strum bar doesnt have the click like guitar hero controllers. i like playing expert on all guitar hero games but when i play rock band. its just hard for me or soemthing. i failed right away. maybe the controller is broken.

Okay, I called customerservice, and the CSR told me that since I pre-ordered the game a day too late, they cannot give me the gold box price. He just offered me a $5 credit to my account which I accepted. After the call, I checked my account, it's not there. I'm thinking that it will be reflected once they debit my account.

Anyway, I just sent an email regarding the Gold Box offer. Hopefully they give me the 5% off together with the $5 credit

Ugh. They're not shipping mine until 26-28. Since I work third shift I may check my local Wal-Mart, which opens when I get off of work, and see if they have any in-stock. Hopefully.

i figured out why..

its because the guitar is thicker and ur hand isnt big nuff to reach the buttons. i was like wtf too because it seemed weird but thats why.

as for the other 5 buttons on the bottem beats me

Well depending on the system, you could always just use the GH3 guitars if they're more to your liking and hand off the rockband guitar to whoever is playing bass/accompanying.

usually it doesn't take as long as it says it does to ship from Amazon's HQs...i usually receive mine in 2-3 days, even with FREE shipping cuz i guess they're usually shipping from kentucky or something...
Hmmm...to switch to Overnight to get it the 21st, or stick with 2-day and get it the 23rd?
Getting it before turkey day will be so worth it. I have prime so it's only $5 for 1-day shipping for me!
Ouch. Shipping 11/26, delivery estimate of 12/3-12/7. I'll leave my order open for now, but I'll be looking for it elsewhere.
Thanks for the update. I was just about to place my order. Hmm...what to do?

Dont know what to say in the email....I guess that I saw it in my gold box but it didnt apply?

Or can they check what was (and is) on your gold box?
Thanks for the update. I was just about to place my order. Hmm...what to do?
change it to standard shipping and then change it back to free shipping and it'll estimate your delivery date at november 27/28 with free shipping.

Thanks for that tip.

I just tried it and the ship estimate just rolled back by two days.....not great but better than nothing.

I sent another gold box email to amazon....was rejected once again---all of this rejection is beginning to feel too much like high school...

I'll try calling tomorrow.

Got to try the demo at Best Buy tonight. It was fun, but it seemed pretty glitchy which was very disappointing. There seemed to be lag with the tiny LCD display but no manual calibration option, and navigating the menus is an exercise in frustration. I hope the glitchiness is a result of it being a demo version, though that seems pretty dumb for a demo. I will still buy it, and pounding on the drums was fun. The guitar was ridiculously flimsy as others have said. It feels like a cheap fisher price toy; the neck would be extremely easy to break right off the thing. The lack of raised fret buttons seemed annoying to me as well, but maybe I'm just too used to the GH controllers as far as that aspect goes.

Does anyone know if their is any type of battle mode for online play or only a co-op version. This game is really making me torn I wish they would have had just a drum pack i'll probably end up selling the guitar on ebay anyways.
I hope the glitchiness is a result of it being a demo version, though that seems pretty dumb for a demo.
I know the glitchiness you are referring to, and I think it must just be the demo. Various media people have received final copies (see the Wired Game|Life blog for one) and they don't say anything about glitchiness.

Ok, here is the deal. I placed my RB order with Amazon when they first went on pre-order status. Last week I noticed they did not give me my price correction with a promotion they had (remember, they have a pre-order policy).

I went through two e-mails, one was a decline to me of the offer. My next e-mail was showing my dissatisfaction with their policy. Their next e-mail?

They canceled my order.

I lost my pre-order spot. I called right away, the CS person was VERY confused why they canceled, and pushed this to the right people to get looked at (yeah yeah). She then put me back in line, the end of the line. But she did give me a $10 credit.

Just wanted everyone to be careful when they have complaints on an open order, especially something that will be hard to get.

As of now, I am still scheduled for an arrival date of Nov. 21st while using overnight shipping.

We shall see....

I still think I will get it on time, as they just put up a buying limit of 1 now.

Anyone planning on selling the guitar that comes in the 360 box? I've think I decided being it's not wireless, I've purchased Guitar Hero 3 and since it works with both games I decided to most probably sell the Guitar out of the box. Anyone else planning on this. I would've kept it if it just worked with both games, but it really is a huge upset. I really wish they would have just made a drum bundle though.

I sent an email regarding the gold box price... I guess I am one of the lucky ones, they refunded the difference. I told them I saw the gold box offer in my gold box the day after I ordered and asked if there was anyway I could take advantage of that offer. I didn't get a response back for a little more than 24 hours, but they emailed me veryifying that it was a gold box sale item for some people so they changed the price to 161.49 for me.

Now I am hoping the game reviews come in before they ship this thing, as if it gets anything less than 8.9's I am cancelling my order. I like maybe about 60% of the songs, but they have alot of other stuff I can't say I am really into much.

It is awesome that there is Ramones, Bowie, Nirvana and the Pixies, and Red Hot Ch. Peppers.. but some of that stuff is just not really up my alley. We will see what the reviews say.. not much time left now..
Anyone planning on selling the guitar that comes in the 360 box?
Yep, what's the point. I've got two wireless guitars already. Why trip on more wires?

The Rock Band controller has 10 frets...you will be missing out on some functionality if you don't have the RB Strat.
Anybody planning on selling the mic that comes in the bundle?
Why, isn't it onyl $20 retail? That really isn't that much comparing to other instruments which come in the bundle.
