If you don't want to schlep this stuff home, Amazon is offering up free shipping.
EB/GS are charging an extra $10 shipping charge.

Release date is November 20th. It is also conceivable that this stuff could be very hard to find during the holiday season.

wow, thanks for the new post. cancelled my original and went with this one. 30 bucks off makes me so much happier...cuz i was seriously thinking about not getting rock band altogether...but saving 30 bucks has me sold. :)

So yes, it's listed at GameStop as the same price, too. On the other hand, there are apparently heavy rumors from the Rock Band forums that there is "a big announcement" or "something interesting" (I forget the language used) coming this week, so the game might actually be $169.99 everywhere. I placed a pre-order just in case, but if it's this price everywhere I'm definitely not waiting for Super Saver Shipping on this bad boy!
this makes me more hopeful for a cheap drum set controller.
Speaking of which, I noticed on Amazon that it doesn't get released until January! Is this their way of forcing us to buy the bundle?
if it is going to be $170, why don't they offer a $190 or $200 xbox 360 with wireless guitar
Or better yet they can just not be douchebags and make it $170 with wireless guitar since Guitar Hero III for 360 is wireless and isn't charging extra compared to the PS3 version....

Not available any more for order. Now it's just a sign up for an alert. Hopefully it is actually $170. Saving $30 would be nice.
Do you guys really think It will be that difficult to find in stores? I'm going to wait.
Yeah I do.

I got my GH2 from RO - no issues.

Went to BB the same day, all sold out.

All stores were for a week or so.

RB will be just as hard or harder to get in stores, plus it's 20 pounds. I rather have it shipped to my door, free ship.

I pre-orderd it along with the wii zapper so i could get the free shipping for the zapper.

I wasnt initially interesting in getting Rock back especially with the wired guitar on the 360. I contemplated getting the ps3 for the wireless guitar. And still might change it but being an acheivement whore that i am i got the 360 version.

Now we know why they were content with letting people think it was going to be $200. Let that settle with people for awhile and then swoop in announcing it's only $169 and it makes the price sound even better. At that price you're pretty much paying for the instruments and they're giving the game away for free, which is a smart way to do it.

If they come through on their promise for DLC, they are going to make a ton of money through that anyway. It's more important for them to get people to buy the game than it is for them to make a huge profit on the game itself.

I still wish they'd offer a wireless guitar bundle for 360. Just add $10 to the price. That's not too much to ask seeing as GHIII is going to be the same price on 360 and PS3 and they both come with a wireless guitar.

Even though this is the retail price Amazon is the best bet for me because no tax means I'm saving like $15. I've got Prime too, so shipping is free. I doubt there'll be any big deals on this because it's going to be in short supply.

XBox360 < PS3

wireless guitar + not having to deal with excess ms points for purchases, makes the PS3 version the best to get.

well if yer in california like me...it'll save you about 15 bucks on sales tax...plus you won't have to drive out and pick it up :p lazygamer :)

Especially with the game coming out on Black Friday. :D

oh man...i vowed to never go out on a black friday again...
Perhaps with official pricing expected next week it's cheaper than we originally thought?
Or they aren't as confident releasing against the already established GH brand and want to be more competitive?

Seriously, for $100 you get a game + guitar in GH. So for $70 more you are paying for drums and a mic. Still seems high to me.

Oh well. I think I'll go with GH and rent RB if the guitar works.

Problem is that the PS3 has a standard Bluetooth interface. MS charges for it's proprietary wireless. Personally I think they should just swallow the fee and make them equal.
Interesting-- I just re-ordered and the estimated delivery date for the new order is 12/3 -12/8, but the original is 11/27-11/28. Maybe this is the 2nd shipment?

I think I'll email and see if they'll drop the price on my original order, and then cancel the new order, just to be safe.
Did the same thing.

I did check my original order from July to see if they dropped it for me--- however, I noticed that "action was required." The item we linked to IS the same item I ordered *AND* the action required was confirming the later release date.

I wasn't going to get this game. That is, until this thread (and deal) appeared.

Thanks for making me spend another $170, CAG!
Why didn't they make the 360 version wireless ?
Good Lord, where have you been??

I finally bit. I was going to get the bundle anyway (I fancy myself a drummer), and this is a great price point.

Because Microsoft charges manufacturers extra to use the wireless capabilities of the 360, while Sony uses a non-proprietary wireless scheme (so anyone can make wireless controlers for the PS3).

Bad: third party wireless controllers less common/more expensive on the 360.

Good: MS has control over the licensing so they could (if they chose) do some quality control, and prohibit keyboard/mouse-type controllers that, if properly implemented, could seriously fuck up the play balance on most FPSs.

the reason I asked, is that I heard that they paid MS the money, I don't know if it is true or not, It stinks that the 360 guitar is not wireless.

***************This just in*************

Guys Amazon just dropped the price of Rock Band for 360 & PS3 to $169.99 with FREE shipping!!!!!

EA Just announced the official price and release date - NOV 23.

I just jumped on the pre-order, anyone else doing the same?

Agreed. I was just going to, at most, just get the game w/o the accessories and use the GHII guitar. But at this price, just couldn't resist.

Joystiq just posted the announcement and the source looks legit:

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/confirmed-rock-band-170-with-nov-23rd-date-ps2-version-comin/

EA announced the official price and release date at the same time, - NOV 23.

I just jumped on the pre-order, I suggest fellow CAG's do the same as NOV 23 is BLACK FRIDAY (Friday after Thanksgiving, unofficial Christmas season) and the stores will be mobbed! Better to get it by mail I say and avoid the crowds and possible sell out.
