Dunno if anyone's interested in some maths, but I did a bunch of number-crunching about Rock Band, the labels involved, and the song counts. Some interesting facts:

-81 bands so far
-26 bands have multiple songs
-23 bands introduced via DLC
-54 bands that have never been in a Guitar Hero game before

-130 songs released/confirmed by multiple sources
-Universal is the biggest label in the game, with 40 songs. EMI is the smallest 'big-4' label, with 14.
-DLC is split the same way- Universal has the most (25), EMI and Sony tie for the least (9).
-25 songs are on independent labels.
-75 songs are by those 26 bands with multiple songs.

I'm going to guess March the earliest for Still Alive since they bumped up the NIN dl pack to this week. Goddamn, don't think I need to buy any new games when I put so much of my money towards points to dl more songs.

I"m picking this up over Spring Break (3 weeks away), and I cannot wait. I'm dying to play it now, but I told my brother I'd wait to get it until I'm home from college so we can break it open together. Gah! I just hope Still Alive is out by then... I suck at singing, but I'll try for that one.
you should add some cover song vs. master track stats as well. :)

Pretty cool post, btw.
Go down a bit on the link, someone beat me to it.

Warner - 9 out of 29 songs are covers (31%)
Sony BMG - 7 out of 22 songs are covers (32%)
Universal - 5 out of 40 songs are covers (12.5%)
EMI - 6 out of 14 songs are covers (43%)
Indie - 3 out of 25 songs are covers (12%)

I'm pretty sure that the girl was on bass and the old man was pretending to play while someone off stage played for him. :)

Just think of it as you buying Rock Band 2 but with only songs that YOU want. I'm glad they aren't coming out with a Rock Band 2 this year with half of the songs that I will never play (Looking your way Train Keeps a Rollin). It will prolly cost more in the long run, but wouldn't you rather have 30 songs ($2 x 30 = $60, price of Rock Band 2) that you actually want? I'm still aways away from 30 songs. I'm prolly at Half right now. So in the next year I have to get 15 more DLC songs for my version of Rock Band 2: The Bigsauce Collection. And 4 of them I got for only a buck each (All-American Rejects and 30 Seconds to Mars).

I have 110 songs now (my friend wanted to dl Coheed and Cambria) I think I might as well say by next month I'll be started on Rock Band 3: Electric Boogaloo.

Thanks for pulling these numbers.

Yea I just played the 3rd pair of drums I have had since Jan 25 and these sucks the most so far. So once my other drums get to EA ill send in for ANOTHER replacement. 4th pair of drums in a month
One of the Harmonix folks there told us the track was only in production for an unusually short six weeks, thanks in no small part to Valve's willingness (you might even call it eagerness) to license the song. They also said that, though nothing has been finalized yet, they're expecting the track to be attractively priced at $0.99 leaving you no reason to avoid it. High-def video embedded after the break.
How can anyone NOT want to dl this now?!

I haven't played thru Portal so I don't really get what the hubbub about this song is about. But I am all over downloading it, seeing as it sounds like nothing else in the game. I like variety (that's what she said).
You should do another list breaking down where the bands are from, just to expose Harmonix for favoring the Boston area. I've also covered your post in mah blogz.
Don't see why not. There's also someone over at Scorehero who's taken interest in getting similar stats on the other Harmonix guitar games. Plus there's a lot of going and double-checking numbers; I think I messed up one or two values somewhere. So far, the clearest trend we've found is that EMI seems to offer the least to all these games, either due to its size (I believe it's the smallest big-4 company), its catalog (if they're dominantly hip-hop or classical or country or something, they wouldn't have much to offer), or its cooperation (maybe they just don't want in).

Though, do edit your blog post, I'm female. :p
What time does Rock Band DLC usually hit?

(I've personally never stayed up to download any songs.)
I'd imagine 2AM PST or 5AM EST

I just wake up in the morning and then they are there
I'd imagine 2AM PST or 5AM EST

Love this game, but it has annoyed me a bit lately with the achievements.

I've won 23 Tug of War matches and haven't gotten the "Win 20" achievement. Has anyone else had this problem? The only thing I can think of is that the other play quitting doesn't count as a win, which is obviously, stupid.

Also I got the van and plane achievements in Band World Tour, but not the bus. Seemed a bit odd.

I also had 97% on a song with a 117 note streak and my opponent had 97% with a 107 note streak and he got a "Big Win!" Ugh. Maybe his 97 was 97.4 and mine was 97.3 or something, but the game could have at least let me know.
Thank you, kind sir.
As they said, normally 5am est (4am our time), but lately, it's been coming up at 4am est (3am our time)

Yeah, arcade games have been coming out an hour earlier than they are supposed to, too. :p

Since I'm fucking stuck staying up all night working on my programming class (I'm fucking switching majors after this shit), I'll grab the NIN pack.

Last week was about 4:10 EST. I was up for that. If I'm up in an hour I will grab Perfect Drug and give it a go but that's it.

Ok, here are my impressions after a few playthroughs on expert for -almost- each instrument and song (Note: I am very biased towards NIN):

March of the Pigs
Guitar - I don't know what to tell you for the charting of guitar for this song. You almost have to see it for yourself. Hard to get used to, holds followed by quick triple-strum chords and sort of a lousy pattern. Maybe I just suck, but I got 77% on expert. You get to play the piano part on guitar, though, so that fact makes it all worth it.

Bass - Probably the craziest bass song in the game. A LOT of energy (and, on my part, a lot of notes missed). The bass follows the beat of the song to a T and has crazy sweeps and hammer-ons to boot. Probably my new favorite Rock Band song. Prepare to strum fast!

Vocals - A very challenging song, to say the least (they did put it in the Blistering Songs category btw). The hardest of the three by far and probably one of the harder ones in the game..just a lot less shorter. And, of course, no inclusion of the word fuck in this song - just a gap in the line "I want to ____ it up".

The Perfect Drug***
Guitar - Awesome guitar in this song. You get a major part of the drum solo (that's where the chart gets kind of funky). Unlike bass, you are playing non-stop through the song. Not too difficult, I 95% it on first try.

Bass - You get to play bass maybe 1 minute and a half throughout the entire song, which is sort of a let down - but not unexpected. Pretty easy, straight forward charting with no real surprises.

Vocals - Easiest of the three songs to sing. Not too much pitch change - pretty straight forward. Medium difficulty song, tops.

The Collector
Guitar - Pretty moderate charting for this song. They use the guitar to do most of the piano, keyboard, and "extra sounds" accompanied with most industrial music. Like The Perfect Drug, not too hard, not too easy (mainly the piano part).

Bass - Pretty straight forward song. I 100% on Expert the first try, and it seems to be a good choice for those looking for the Flawless Groove achievement (or just a solid bass song).

Vocals - Awesome song to sing. Be sure you can belt out the screams on this one. A lot of pitch changes, and a fairly difficult song.

***= for all you drummers out there, try passing this song on Expert :whistle2:#

Hope this helps anyone who's on the fence!

Downloading now, which will take me a while on very slow DSL.

Looks like it's a good time to go out for a joyride (yeah, I get bored enough to go out driving at 1:30am PST).

Only problem I have so far is on guitar that for March of the Pigs the guitar for some parts of the song (specifically middle before the quiet and the end) it turns into the piano, though only a small minor complaint as the guitar portion of it is damn linear (to be expected) and so far collector is easiest song to sing in the bunch.

Collector also becomes a piano at the end of the song so you basically do a piano solo for a guitar solo, which kinda makes me think for Rock Band 2 I'm hoping a third guitarist that can either be a rhythm guitarist or be a keyboardist in a sense.
