I was pretty proud when I got 1 million fans, but now that we've continued playing it's disheartening to see we get 1 million fans per set. :[

The Endless Setlist will be a bitch whenever we get to it.

Seriously? 1 million per set? Jesus. My roommate and I are at like 910,000 and are still only getting like 30-40,000 per long set.

And I can't believe you didn't have trouble with Reptilia on expert vocals, X. That song was mind-numbingly difficult to grunt.

Yeah, we mostly 5 star everything, though, and this was on the last tier of two cities which I believe give the most fans.

I just tried a solo vocals career and damn am I terrible. I feel like it isn't responsive. I'll hit a long note and the indicator will be tipped above the note, and I go as low as my damn voice will go and it doesn't move. Happens the other way too (tipped below, I go super high). Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm barely four-starring the first tier on Medium.
Rock Band set, everything but the drums for 100.

Worth it?
Not really, drums is the best part imo. I suck at drums but they are hella fun.

You can get the whole set for around $145-150 when they go on sale.

Spend 50 more and get it from amazon. Drums are totally worth it.

Hmm, thanks.
There's a guy selling it with the drums for 115, but I have a feeling he's already sold it.
If so, I'll look into buying new.

It gets pretty ridiculous soon after clearing that achievement. I'm at ~21 million fans and 2,100+ stars total so far.

That's the song I was most worried about. While choosing I thought "Here's the song that's going to make me want to sell this microphone", and it was one of my easier songs. IIRC, I got a 96% on that song. If it were up to me, I'd completely re-arrange the difficulty tiers for vocals - as I had more problems with Mississippi Queen and other mid-range songs vs. Foreplay/Long Time, Run to the Hills, and Flirtin' With Disaster (the song I got 100% on ).
The full album DLC is a little odd...

Judas Priest's "Screaming for Vengeance" in April
The Cars (S/T) in May
The Pixies "Doolittle" in June

Can that be all for the next 3 months?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080418/music_nm/mtv_rockband_dc;_ylt=AhByARgR2sDezBJR5NnITpZxFb8C
Album-wise, probably. I hope they don't hold back the single tracks from other artists during that time.

I'll be getting at least 4 tracks from The Cars album, and probably 3 from the Priest album (need "Hell Bent for Leather", though).

We're proud to unleash our first full album upon the masses- Judas Priest's 1982 classic Screaming For Vengeance! All tracks will be available separately for $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points), or as a whole album for $14.99 (1200 Microsoft Points).
FYI for pricing.
Meh, the only song from any of those albums I'll buy is "Just What I Needed" by the Cars.
I love that whole album but there are a TON of keyboards all over the place. Not sure how that would translate to the game. I'd prefer in that instance if they just went with the Greatest Hits - I'd love to sing "Drive", "Magic", "You Might Think", etc. I'm surprised that they didn't pick more RAWK albums.

I agree, as much as I know music buffs love their albums, I'd rather have greatest hits.

So the albums are no deal... 9 songs for $15. I guess you get a free song out of the deal. Considering the first song on the Judas Priest album is 40 seconds I can't imagine they'd put it in.

Fair points b/w you and javery. This is one occasion where a Greatest Hits record is ideal.

Perhaps it's easier to just grab the master recordings of one specific album? Dunno.

After driving to campus this morning, I have to say that this game need The Cramps in it. Just a few songs. I'll even settle for the watered down radio edit of "Bikini Girls With Machine Guns."

Kotaku interview regarding album downloads:

Today, Harmonix has officially announced the first album that will hit the Rock Band store: Judas Priest's Screaming For Vengeance. Arriving April 22/24 on Xbox 360/PS3, this10-track album will cost $14.99 with individual tracks being offered for $1.99 apiece. Then in May, The Cars' self-titled record will become the second full-album release from Rock Band. The Pixies' Doolittle will follow in June.

While this is precisely the news that all Rock Band fans have been waiting to hear, it raises a ton of new questions. Is $14.99 the new standard album price? And how often can we expect new albums? Luckily, we had the chance to discuss the announcement with Harmonix's CEO Alex Rigopulos, who was more than happy to answer all of our fanboy questions. We posted an abridged, cleaned (sans-Mark's-question-stuttering-and-boring-parts) Q&A after the jump.

What took you so long?
...a big reason that it's taken us so long to get them to market is that the actual technical delivery of the assets required for any one song - they're actually pretty complicated. You're often dealing with masters for the older stuff that were recorded on analog. Often it takes a long time to even locate those masters. The right takes and the right edits have to be found, and in some cases old gear that's not in use anymore has to be resuscitated to transfer the stuff to digital. And so for any one song, the actual process of finding the right tape, resuscitating it and transferring it to the right digital format that we need and all that is an undertaking...

If you're just going for a handful of tracks by a particular artist and they're slow to locate one of them, well you just pick a different track and go on. Well when you're looking for a dozen tracks ina a particular album, you cant really release the album until you've tracked every one of those assets.

What happened to The Who?
We will have a specific announcement about that coming up soon regarding some work that we have coming down the pike with The Who in general that I think people are gonna be pretty happy about...and in general what you're gonna see sorta deep dives with particular artists, where with some artists...of the appropriate stature, you'll see us doing more than whole albums, potentially even entire catalogs.

What kind of schedule will album release be on?
For album releases, in particular, there isn't a set schedule like an album a month...we do want to release albums regularly...generally, the amount of content we release in a week you'll see growing over the course of the year substantially.

Will albums ever represent the majority of your music releases?
I don't think albums will be the dominant release. I don't think we're going to switch to primarily releasing albums, but I will say, in addition to these three we've just mentioned, we actually have MANY in the pike...suffice it to say, it will be a substantial portion of our content offering going forward.

So is $14.99 the new standard album price?
It's not a standard. There's not going to be a standard album pricing. It's going to be a function of how many songs are included in the album...essentially there will be a volume discount applied.

Do you think a variable price rate on albums is disadvantage, especially when stores like iTunes sell albums for a flat rate?
Perhaps, but I think...consumers have demonstrated that they feel that the value they're getting for a game level based at $2 is enormous...[and] there's quite a lot of appetite for music at $2 a song...[so] volume discounts for more music represents quite a good value for the consumers.

Will you ever offer 3-Pack discounts for album tracks?
At this time we're not...I'm not ruling that out as something we're doing in the future. It's just not something we're doing right now.

Would you ever consider releasing "greatest hits" albums?
I don't see any particular reason why we would rule them out...I think that for the right artist under the right circumstances, there's no reason we wouldn't consider doing a greatest hits album that either exists in the world already as a recorded compilation, or [as] in some cases, we've actually had artists come to us who are interested in kind of curating their own new greatest hits compilation for the purpose of Rock Band release. And so I think we're really pretty versatile to ideas of that sort.

So basically, a Rock Band Greatest Hits album?
Exactly.
(Ed note: Rigopulos later explained that they kind of did this with Grateful Dead tracks already, unofficially.)

At the end of the interview, Rigopulos let me know that Rock Band had recently surpassed 8 million song downloads. That's about 2 million just since their new store opened (and Still Alive became offered for free).

I bet they're going to shitcan the Who's Next release and just pull some tracks from it based on what was said above, but that's just the pessimist in me. No mention of Nevermind is a little distressing as well.

I am glad to see what I mentioned a few pages back, though...that they'd be ramping up the number of songs released every week. Works for me.

Christ, sometimes I have to bang my head on the wall and shake the crazies out to remind myself that this incredibly well-supported game that listens to customer input is brought to us by Electronic Arts.

Huzzah.

Agreed. I can't ever recall a game being supported and handled so well by the developers. Plus, $2/song is actually kind of a fair price. I do wonder what is going to happen down the road though when Rock Band 2 is inevitably announced and when we move on to the next generation of systems...

My PS3 will become my "Rock Band Machine" like the way my PS2 is my "Guitar Hero Player" (given that PS3 doesn't support guitar inputs for the PS2 GH games).

it says in the rock band press release that the first two judas priest songs are combined for one dlc download. i'm not sure if that means they are also combine for playing purposes as well.

i would be more inclined to buy full albums if they included an additional band world tour/achievements/better way to organize the dlc, rather than just scrolling through the downloaded list.

Yeah, I called the guy and left a message.
The ad is pretty new so he should still have it.

Love desperate people on Craigslist.

About time I pick this game up.
DLC is getting too good.
Do you guys think there will be a way to play the full albums from start to finish without interruption?
How does it work for the Boston 6-pack?

I really hope single tracks aren't put on hold now that albums are coming, but I don't think they will be from that interview.

I'll have to wait for charts to decide if I want the whole album on Tuesday.

My wallet is screaming. ;_;

But The Cars?! And Doolittle?! YESSSS! Gouge Away is going to be brilliant!

And they even reminded us that Who's Next is still on their minds. This is also wonderful. Sooooooon, boys!

JUDAS PRIEST! YES! CARS! YES! PINBALL WIZARD...Where the fuck is Pinball Wizard?! As if it matters since Harmonix makes me realize Rock Band alone, totally worth purchasing Elite.

HOLY fuck SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE! I can't wait till Tuesday now holy shit.

I hope I can play The Hellion and Electric Eye back to back oh man oh man.

Woo hoo!

This is true. I'm actually sorta worried on this one. Every song pack I buy makes my 10 remaining gigs tick down bit by bit. I may need more at this rate :bomb:

Hells yeah, bought the above mentioned bundle for $130.

Time to join in the party.
First thing I'm gonna do is grab that Bowie and "punk" pack.
Which pack feature the T-Rex song? (and is it a cover? probably is.....)

It would be nice if the OP could be updated with all the new dlc with dates and such.:)

"Bang a Gong" by T-Rex is a single.

Damn, I've got some shit to download tonight. I guess I'll have to watch a movie during the downloading process, because it's going to take me a while to get all the new stuff.

The listing for the DLC does have them listed as "The Hellion/Electric Eye" so yes, you should be able to.

Sounds from that interview like they are going to have The Who re-record a song(s) so they can get the album out. I think people should understand that it takes a while for something like that to be pulled off correctly.

I don't know if I like that idea or not. Most likely not. Who's Next without Keith Moon just isn't Who's Next at all.

these three album announcements make me very happy. i thought they were being very tight-lipped about the albums to this point, so even if Nevermind and Who's Next are delayed, i'm happy knowing that more bands are getting on board

I kinda want to believe Who's Next they'll release same day as GH: Aerosmith and possibly for a discounted price as a way of rubbing it in RedOctane's face or something. Goddammit, never did I imagine a game would be getting soooo much money from me from just DLC.
I don't know if I like that idea or not. Most likely not. Who's Next without Keith Moon just isn't Who's Next at all.
Yeah not to mention John Entwistle. But I was just guessing that may not be it...maybe they are doing something like the Aerosmith thing and picking a bunch of different songs from various albums. Would explain 'Pinball Wizard'.
