Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now

What's gay is that you don't rip it off the disc. You just download it, and on top of that it doesn't show up in the songs menu as being from lego rock band. It's just downloaded songs.

I'm pretty sure they went the download route to avoid any possibility of a damaged disc screwing up the ripping process. The disc is probably required to avoid people doing exactly what D_Icon is trying to do.

As for the sorting...are you really surprised? Given how rare the patches for Rock Band 2 have been, they aren't going to put one out for a minor thing like that, especially when their last change to the menus (the star sorting) didn't work the way the internet hoped and led to a lot of shaking of tiny fists.

How would ripping them off the disc cause damage? I don't think anyone's Rock Band 1 discs got damaged by ripping.

I also think your reasoning surrounding updates is totally off base.

Richmeister, he's saying that an already damaged disc could cause problems in the ripping process, and that's why they went with the download.

Walrus, he was probably hoping that they'd be sorted by game, like the Rock Band 1 songs are. It would make sense to me.

Yeah I rented the game, cost me $9.80 plus $10 to purchase the key. What sucks is that I only like 10 songs from the game. I've seen the code on ebay sell for $25, adding an extra $20 would be more than buying the actual game.

Yes the code was free from GS.
Do we have any idea when the RBN is finally going to have songs?
Somewhat related, somewhat not. I know there are some Dream Theater fans here and I don't think this has been posted yet.

There is a user on Mike Portnoy's forum that transcribes all of Dream Theater's music and he posted a couple months ago that he is working with the band and they are looking to put Dream Theater's entire catalog on RBN.

How fucking cool would that be? I would purchase every damn song. Question is, when is Queensryche going to step up to the plate?

It irks me, too, to see that the Lego songs are just thrown in with the rest of the DLC in RB2's Location sorting. There is a specific Lego logo within the Lego game itself, so I'm hoping that the next RB2 update adds it.

Ahh, yes. I reread and I in fact did misread his post, that would be my b.

So, my friend has The Beatles Rock Band (Wii) and well, I'm sorta thinking of getting it for my 360 to practice and maybe get into with them. Is there anything I should be aware of? I sorta looked at the usual places but have no clue about stuff. If used what should I be paying? I'll probably be looking at CL if possible. Also, what game should I get? Beatles? Thanks for the help in advanced.

I'm rhythm deficient though... especially on drums.

You can find Rock Band 2 used for under $20, and that game will allow you to play any DLC you care to purchase. Or if you prefer the Beatles, you can probably find that game for around $40 or so, but you can only play Beatles tracks, you cannot export those songs or play any other songs with that disc. Hope that helps.

I'd say if you want the whole instrument set get the Rock Band 2 bundle and Beatles software by itself. I Say this because so far all my friend's and their Beatles guitars have been having some problems recently. Usually it ranges from strum bar missing notes or frets clicking super loud. Plus you'll have RB2 and it's cheaper versus getting the Beatles special edition bundle.

Hmm... Ok, sounds good. So, the guitars if used should I be worried and just go new? My friend has both a cheap one and a "nice" one. I liked the cheap one since it seemed to be a little easier to play because of timing. The buttons and strumming seemed to work better for me too. How much is the new ones versus a good price for used?

Thanks again.

You can usually find a RB2 bundle for around $99 new or so if you know where to look. Problem with used guitars is it's alot of hit or miss. So basically buyer beware. Though you can occasionally find these at Toys R Us for $10 new and they're pretty damn sturdy. Only downside is of all the guitars on the 360 it looks the most like a Fisher Price toy, but small price to pay.

Plus Gamecrazy has had $10 on all used plastic instruments sale so if unsure can always try before you buy there.

I live by the wired controller listed above. It isn't as stiff as the wireless GH and RB1 guitars we have (i.e. reacts fairly fast) and it doesn't weight hardly anything in comparision. Granted it might be because I started on it when I got GH2 (came in package).

I'm going to be so broke if this is true.

DLC list (for Jan. 5) is up early:

Paul McCartney – “Band on the Run (Live)” +
Paul McCartney – “Jet (Live)” +
Paul McCartney – “Sing the Changes (Live)” +
Blink-182 – “Adam’s Song”
Blink-182 – “First Date” +
Blink-182 – “I Miss You”
The Psychedelic Furs – “Love My Way” +
The Psychedelic Furs – “Sister Europe”
The Ramones – “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” +

Ugh, more live tracks.

Probably in for RNR High School since we haven't had any Ramones stuff in forever. Wonder if it's the Phil Spector/End of the Century version or the other version.
I heard that Lego Rock Band, which I had been planning to pick up, lacks online play. Is this true?
That is the truth, sadly.

Buy it. Export the songs. Flip it on Goozex. I did that the week it came out and ended up getting 1150 points for it (950 base + 200 bonus for trading within its first month). It's down to 700 points now, but nobody is offering it, so you should be able to trade it instantly.

Oh, and sorry I missed your message the other night, Matt. My headset was dead and I can't ever decipher what people are saying through my TV speakers, haha.

Not much but maybe a hint of future DLC from Coheed and Cambria?
Well, there was a video interview a couple months back with Claudio by someone from Harmonix and he was pushing Rock Band Network on him pretty hard. I imagine we'll see a few tracks in RB proper, but possibly a full album on RBN.

Damn, this thread died. I remember reading multiple posts a day everyday and now there's maybe one post per day.

I guess the lack of good DLC and Green Day soured everyone?

Haha, well I'm enjoying the hell out of the new Blink DLC. Crazy that there are 10 Blink songs available now...only one of which was on a disc ("Aliens Exist" on Lego RB). I'm sure there are plenty of people here who think Blink is garbage, but I can't listen to them without thinking of fun times in high school, man. Always takes me back.

I've gotten used to the idea of Green Day enough to say Harmonix is a company in the end. DLC wise, man, I haven't bought anything in like a month now. It's kinda freaking me out.

Though I know they're confirmed for RBN, but I pray to God we get this...

I think it's the lack of a 3rd game to actually advance the series. It's nice when you have something to work towards while at the same time jamming out on your favorite peripheral.

Harmonix is going to need to totally revamp the world tour portion of the game. Fact of the matter is World Tour as it is has grown stale, and I don't think people are going to want to grind their balls off in another tour mode like the current one.

Some kind of graphic overhaul, whether they totally adopt a new art style or advance the current one. More choices for avatar faces, more hair, more clothes, etc. While the additions they made over the first game were tremendous I couldn't help but notices they cut out some of the clothing and tattoos/art, and a good bit of it really was recycled from the first game.

Part of it is that this genre really is becoming a bit exhausted, and Harmonix was put in a shitty position, because if they did come out with a 3rd game I think it would have just been over looked in the wealth of rhythm games that have recently hit the market.

Rock band 3 is going to have to be really different than what's currently out. They also need to implement every kind of stat monitoring there is among other things. When I high light a song it should tell me the following about my best run...

-Date it occurred
-longest streak during the song
-percentage of notes hit -along with notes hit/notes possible
-how many broken streaks there were
-How much time I spent in star power

I think something like that should be put in place for every instrument in solo mode at least. Perhaps they could go into the combination 2, 3, and full band as well, but that seems like a bit much. People are stat whores when it comes to this game. I think there should also be a career average, totaling all of what I laid out every time you play career mode under your gamertag/profile, NOT per character, because I don't know about you guys but I use different characters when I drum and guitar and I want the stats tied to RichMeisterMan, not my drummer Dr. Dream.

Last thing, disc will need 100+ songs on it, so it'll just ooze value.

Alright, rant over.

Oh and because most of you were probably oh so intrigued by the name, "Dr. Dream" here is a picture of him.

...what a freakin' bad ass :applause: lol

I think most of use are burnt out on DLC as it stands.

At least I am, for a while anyway. When I actually look at how much money I spent on this game, being a CAG and all, makes me sick :whistle2:(

And that's only the DLC. I've spent hundreds on the bundle and equipment, etc.

But yeah, when we hear more details about the new Rock Band we'll see a lot more posts.

I am still enjoying the game immensely. I am pushing around 950 songs total with the 9 added today. The blink songs are fantastic on drums as usual. I would think adam's song would be rated at least a 4 but tiers don't matter too much.

Imagine if they did come out with games instead of DLC like Guitar Hero. You would have spent just as much most likely with some songs you dont even enjoy and have to disc swap anytime you want to play a certain song.

Personally, I am satisfied with the current state of Rock Band. I think the DLC they have released so far has provided a great mix of music for all. I look forward to implementation of RBN. I hope Vagrant and Victory Records jump on board with it.

Minus the Lego Rock Band songs, I have a little over 100 songs DLC.

I remember when everybody thought the genre was getting stale, and then Rock Band came out to revitalize it with a full band setup and consistent weekly DLC. I guess we're reaching that point again where we're feeling a bit tired, but I think Rock Band Network is a huge step that could revitalize interest depending on how many artists, big or small, take advantage of it. As much as we appreciate the weekly DLC, we still have no say over what specific songs we get. The RBN could expand our choices greatly if it can truly become a music platform like iTunes.

Beyond the RBN, I think the next step would have to be a huge one in hardware changes. But that's not going to be easy. The usual rumors always talk about potentially switching to gear more akin to real instruments, but the truth is that a significant amount of RB/GH players don't know much about real instruments and just want to have fun. Many people I play with at parties are non-gamers/non-musicians intimidated enough by the current hardware.

The thread may not be as healthy as it once was in terms of daily posts, and I think most of us are probably desensitized by now to getting new content every week, even when it's stuff we get excited over. But when you realize this game came out in late 2008 and it's still on the front page at (almost) all times, that ain't too shabby at all. There has never been a single game that has had "legs" like this one for me. I still play it at least a few times a week, even when a newer title has my attention.

I wish they'd get RBN going. That could definitely be a shot in the arm until they finally get around to putting RB3 out.

I shudder to think how much this game has actually cost me total.

I think it has more to do with the fact Quickplay only carries you so far. There's a lot to be said for a World Tour, Challenges and Achievements. A new game once a year that keeps things fresh is needed, IMO. Keep in mind, all previous games and DLC still work in the new game, you just have new goals, modes and achievements to attain.

Bring on RB3 already!

I think the biggest problem is that RB2 has been left to wither on the vine, which makes no sense considering they want to sell DLC every week. They should have updated RB2 bigtime by now, adding modes and features and achievements. They have to nurture the platform to keep it healthy and vibrant. Instead they put all their work into a game which doesn't support the same DLC platform (Beatles...though I love it) and a kid's game which, frankly, sucks.

I realize they have RBN coming but that doesn't bring anything to the table as far as new game modes or ways to sort and view songs, which is what we really need IMO. Having 700+ songs in the game is not fun to deal with at all at this point....why should I keep buying tons more? Lack of songs is not exactly the problem. In fact I have a bunch of songs that I have probably only played once or maybe even a few not at all, but the game has no way of telling me that or creating playlists that take such criteria into account.

Hopefully I will be proved wrong and HMX has something up their sleeve that we don't know about.

Precisely.

I totally agree with Corvin. have things in the back ground to work for is nice.

I really thought Lego RB would do something for me in that department, but that game blows. On top of that when I finally got around to downloading the setlist to my HDD I realized only a handful of the songs are really worth having. I was also really saddened to find out that the drumming on two princes sucks ass and is so damn hard.

I also agree that some way to sort songs by most/least played would be nice. I only have 450 or so songs, but I definitely forget about some of the stuff I have DLed.

I don't really agree that games modes and such should be offered as DLC. Because what would they have to offer with the next game other than looks if they made game modes DLC?

I kinda wish they did offer non-music DLC. New clothes or achievements to earn would have me play alot more. We'll see what Greenday RB brings to the table beyond more songs.

Even when my primary attention is on other titles, RB2 is gonna be one of those "background games" that I fire up every few days just to play around with. And when people are over, it's still almost always the first choice of activity. I can't stress enough how much my non-gamer friends frigging love this game; they always want to play it.

btw, Alice In Chains pack 2 possibly next week?? http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179574

Yea, I think you guys hit the nail on the head with RB2. I have picked up alot of DLC and some stuff I've only played a few times. I am fine with a retail release every year, especially if they continue to support all DLC. As much as people here trash what the GH series has become with 4-5 releases a year, they did it right with GH5. They added features that are still sorely missing from the RB platform with things like support for non-traditional bands (play with 4 vocalists, 4 guitarists or a mix), the addition of the song challenges is great as well, & the ability to play with guests on the same console over XBL makes it easy for anyone to hop in and play. If EA can release Madden every year and just update rosters, I'm sure they can release RB every year and add some new songs and features.

It seems like the RB platform feels that since they have released DLC each week that they don't need to do anything else with the platform until the next game release. How about some new achievements? How about some avatar unlockables? How cool would it be to unlock a PJ Stickman shirt for your avatar if you play Ten all the way through? Weekly DLC used to be enough, but for me to pick this game up and play it more and buy more DLC something new has to be added. Granted I do not have friends who come over to play games and nobody on my FL plays RB on a consistent basis, so maybe that puts me in a minority, but I don't have any reason to fire this game up anymore. In fact, I really wanted to play a music game over the holidays and i forced myself to play Lips and GH:VH, stinking pile of crap that it is, just because there were some achievements to unlock.

I might be showing in my age or my complete lack of knowledge of aic but I haven't heard of any of those songs. A quick YouTube listen will probably be in order.
