Rock Band 2 drums. The problem with the silencers (or at least the "official" Rock Band ones) is that once you put them on, they're not getting off. Plus Rock Band 2 drums have the sturdier bass pedal.
I have the drum silencers on my RB2 drums and they are working great.
I think they actually would come off, though I have no intention of doing so.
It makes them a bit quieter and you can hit them harder without crosstalk.
They also cover the rims which is nice if you have accuracy issues at times.

It's offical, Beatles coming to Rock Band and Rock Band only.

The Beatles have licensed songs to MTV Networks' Rock Band videogame series, according to several people familiar with the matter, a coup for the Viacom Inc. unit in its battle with rival Activision Inc. for supremacy in the world of rock and roll video games.

Something tells me it'll get the AC/DC treatment.

So much for Harmonix's line about exclusive deals only hurting the consumer. While it is great that Rock Band is potentially getting The Beatles, this looks like the beginning of an exclusivity war. Activision has Metallica and Rock Band has The Beatles. Where does it go from here?

Like discussed earlier, Harmonix did say that but MTV and EA are the ones getting and paying for the licenses so they can do what they please.
Awesome. Activision can keep Aerosmith and Metallica.
Yeah, I'd argue that signing The Beatles for Rock Band pretty much trumps anything Activision could announce. I'm not even a huge Beatles fan, but it'd be awfully damn hard for anyone to dispute their significance to music as a whole. Aside from maybe Elvis, I don't think there are any musical artists as beloved around the world as The Beatles.
I would like to request Appetite For Destruction in Rock Band to make up for the atrocity that is Chinese Democracy.
I think Harmonix should mail out $2 checks (or 400 point checks for 360 owners ;)) for everyone who bought Rock Band 2. I hate the idea of paying for that lunk of shit "Shackler's Revenge."

More like "Shitter's Revenge" HAW HAW HAW.

Oh boy, I need some sleep.

Beatles!?!?!?! Cue Keanu Reeves: woah.

It's unfortunate, but it was eventually going to happen. Now that both are officially procuring exclusive rights, we could see a rapid grab at some of the more popular bands.

That's pretty much what I thought when I saw it. This was a well-played move by Harmonix/MTV/EA. There are a number of other great "universal" bands out there, but Beatles outright takes the cake.
Like discussed earlier, Harmonix did say that but MTV and EA are the ones getting and paying for the licenses so they can do what they please.
Yeah, I understand this isn't a move by Harmonix, and I didn't like Activision moneyhatting for Metallica either.

At least all of the instruments are compatible between RB and GH:WT on the 360 so any exclusive content would only require a purchase of the game and not another grip of plastic instruments but it will still be a pain in the ass.

Beatles, awesome, but I agree I'd rather have the Led. Still waiting on Queen and Tom Petty as well. Beatles songs could be a little boring but I usually am the vocalist at my RB parties until everyone is drunk and they are awesome songs for vocals imho.
While My Guitar Hero Gently Weeps.

Sorry, I had to.
Which would be a great song for RB, by the way.
Honestly, most Beatles songs are going to be pretty boring to play.
I agree. This is a huge deal, but really, playing by yourself, there will be a select few that are fun but the majority will be very boring. Now as a full band, I bet they will all be fun as hell.

Honestly I've never even previewed a note chart for a song onilne... it's always been more about songs I know, songs I like, songs I've sung along to in my car, etc. Occasionally I'll even grab a song specifically because my friends will enjoy it ("All The Small Things" was more for the sake of The Party than for my own).

Seriously, aside from the band aspect (and finding 4 other people interested in both rockband and the beatles) thats going to be one boring game.

GH wins with Metallica.

Everything after "...And Justice for All" makes it fail by default though...

I can see Led Zeppelin being a bigger deal if they got it.

My proxy is either (1) do I like the song or (2) would it be awesome to play with 3 other friends over a bottle of whiskey?

Stuff like this week's DLC satisfy the former, stuff like (please make it happen!) Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and Bon Jovi's "living on a prayer" satisfy the latter. Motley Crue's "Dr Feelgood" does both. ;)

I'm not sure that the beatles are going to satisfy those criteria. But, either way, it's a big acquisition for RB.

[puts target firmly on my chest] I believe in Axl Rose. Everything I have heard from Chinese Democracy(the leaked material) I have liked, with Shackler's Revenge being the only exception.

Appetite for Destruction and a "Best of" Use your illusion with Patience thrown in there would be a day one purchase. Screw the Beatles, Give me Guns N Roses.

Is Nov 2nd the confirmed date for the Rock Band AC/DC disk?

The way I see it
AC/DC > Metallica > Led Zeppelin > The Doors > Jimi Hendrix > Van Halen > Beatles
So we win.

Also, can someone in the Rock Band forums please suggest,

Stevie Nick's White Winged Dove
Pat Paterson's Heartbreaker

as future DLC. I'd make an account but I'd be a noob. At least White Winged Dove if there is an issue with Heartbreaker already being on GH.
Everything after "...And Justice for All" makes it fail by default though...
so we have 4 great albums (2+ classics) of material to work off. Also Black Album had some great songs, just less technical.

Awesome - almost feel like waking my son up to tell him as he'll be super-excited. he played Band on the Run at Best Buy today on GHWT and was pretty thrilled with that. Real Beatles stuff would be SO much better ;).
Honestly, most Beatles songs are going to be pretty boring to play.

boring? I can see what you mean, but I really doubt it... abbey road as well as some of their later work will be super awesome.
Yeah, awesome to listen to, awesome to play. You can't say While My Guitar Gently Weeps doesn't work as a great guitar song (yeah, sure it was Eric Clapton but still). Also, Revolution and Helter Skelter... Plenty of other stuff will be fun too - maybe not for hardcore guitar experts but for the rest of us. Frankly I can't stand listening to, let alone play, most of the guitar-heavy tracks in these games. And for bass players these will be some of the more interesting songs to play too. Granted, a lot of the #1 hits that everyone knows and comes to mind when they think of The Beatles may not work very well (e.g., Hey Jude) but there's plenty of lesser known stuff that would work for all 4 band members.
Beatles, awesome, but I agree I'd rather have the Led. Still waiting on Queen and Tom Petty as well. Beatles songs could be a little boring but I usually am the vocalist at my RB parties until everyone is drunk and they are awesome songs for vocals imho.
My son will KILL to be able to sing to Beatles songs. He does it every time we are in the car with his iPod. He also drums along on the back of the seat ;).

Wow - I couldn't disagree more. I was happy when that Metallica song didn't transfer from RB1. I was a teen during Metallica's heyday (as far as I remember ;) - I remember all the wannabe stoners at my school wearing their shirts in any case) and I couldn't name more than one damn thing they ever did. Yeah, there's that Sandman song that is sort of OK, but I can't name another song they ever did and they all sound the same to me when I hear them. Yet I can probably name nearly all the Beatles songs by album, in order ;). This will be awesome... I agree Led Zep would be nice, too, but it pales to The Beatles.

The thing is, this announcement will probably be pretty disappointing in that it won't be for Rock Band 2 like the early reports are saying. They probably just threw that in because that's the current product. Hopefully it will be out within a year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer. Hopefully, at least, they can tease us with a few DLC songs earlier.
Metallica's S/T album would be huge just because everyone knows those songs.
Just proved you wrong ;). I don't even know what "S/T" is.

Led Zeppelin is never going to sign a deal for either game... they have been quoted on record as saying they are not comfortable handing over their masters. Unless they have a huge change of heart, it isn't gonna happen.

They don't care about money, so there isn't really anything to entice them to have one.

As far as the Beatles go... some of their later works would be very hard to play... the early shit wouldn't be worth buying. But, if it were an AC/DC type situation, I'd have to buy the disc. You can't pass up the Beatles!

:hot::hot::hot::hot::hot:

AC/DC

Yes it's overpriced by $6 but its an awsome set list.

If I use the code to export the songs to Rock Band 1, can I still export them later on to Rock Band 2? I have the PS3 version btw.

Also, is there a website with Rock Band created characters? I'd like to Make AC/DC.

$6?

18 songs @ $2 ea. = $36. $4 difference

What people don't realize is that I believe a couple of the tunes are over 10 minutes long. So two with 5 extra minutes of music is almost like two extra songs which would account for the $4.

Anyway, I'll be there at midnight. :)

Yes, but this one is technically different being live, and I think it is one of the extended ones so the chart should be a bit different.

Way to be behind by a really long fucking time.

There isn't much I envy when it comes to sticking with RB over Guitar Hero, but I'd gladly trade both the Beatles and AC/DC "exclusives" for Metallica.
Just proved you wrong ;). I don't even know what "S/T" is.
Self-titled, which is hardly a Metallica exclusive term.
Granted, a lot of the #1 hits that everyone knows and comes to mind when they think of The Beatles may not work very well (e.g., Hey Jude) but there's plenty of lesser known stuff that would work for all 4 band members.
Quite true. This morning I was thinking about which songs would work especially well. My partial wishlist would include:

Taxman - Fun instrumental parts for everyone! IMO this is the prototypical "Beatles-song-that-works-in-a-music-game" that all potential Beatles DLC should be measured against.
The End - only Beatles song with a drum solo!
Come Together - definitely one of the more band-ish (if that makes sense) songs of their later years
Run For Your Life - a peppy, lesser-known, rather morbid number that would be lots of fun for all band members.
Help! - everyone and their mother knows this, and it works perfectly in a band setting
Old Brown Shoe - a George Harrison b-side with fun drums and a fun guitar solo
Hello Goodbye - seems like a particularly good "drunk at 3AM" song

bah I could go on for a while but I should really be working right now haha. But anyway I am super-stoked for whatever we get here. I assume it will be straight-up studio versions of songs, since the Beatles only toured during the early years of their career and none of those live recordings are of particularly good quality. I don't think they'll give us early ALBUMS either, since on the first few albums like half of the tracks were covers (which I assume would present a more complex licensing scenario).

Everyone knows this even if they don't know it. If you've ever seen a montage scene of someone being stressed out in a early 90's sitcom, then you know this song.

Uh, this game may not have anything to do with Rock Band other than Harmonix is doing it - as in, not an expansion, and songs may not be transferrable into Rock Band. If that's the case, this game just went from down from a "maybe" to a "hahahahaha...oh, wait, you're serious?"

Kotaku

During a teleconference being held by Apple Corps, Ltd and MTV this morning, the two companies, along with Harmonix, announced an exclusive partnership to create a brand new video game featuring the music of the Beatles. This seems to be a new game that will allow friends and families to experience the music of the band in an all new way.

Other than a brief mention of Rock Band during the teleconference, so far no mention has been made of the band's songs coming to Rock Band or Rock Band 2. In fact, Harmonix's Alex Rigopolis stated during the call that this is not a Rock Band expansion pack, but an all-new game title built from the ground up.

/snip

They were also not prepared to discuss the possibility of Beatles music coming to Rock Band at this point, which I suppose still leaves the possibility open.

/snip

It was stressed that this was indeed an exclusive deal for The Beatles music as far as video games are concerned.

The game will take advantage of many Rock Band elements, and will be compatible with existing Rock Band peripherals.

Except someone posted right above that it fucking isn't.

This is an epic fail, as it's probably going to be some super-stupid, Wii-style non-game.

Wii Music: The Beatles

All Metallica songs sound the same? I'm pretty sure people have some grudge against them because of the napster incident, their music is probably some of the best metal in the world, not obnoxiously loud, some awsome lyrics, and some of the best drumming and guitar skills.

Off-topic, but the best song I've heard in 2008 is AC/DC's Rock 'n Roll Train. I have a feeling it'll be a song that gets put up their with Highway to Hell and Back in Black. Put that in RB.
