Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Hit the jackpot last night...American deluxe strat for 516 :hot:
Has a couple 1-2mm chips on the headstock and what feels like a half inch finish crack/uneven spot on the top cutaway but those are nothing in the face of a thousand dollar discount to me lol

Nice!!! That's great! If you have a female significant other, it's likely she'll have a nail polish that will match the chips pretty well... Use a toothpick to dot it in ;)

That's awesome that you ran across one!

I have been trying to keep my buying under control. Mainly buying different guitars so I could try them and see what one I would like. Don't have a guitar store near me to try them I just hope my place does not end up looking like one.

Hellomusic has a G&L tribute tele for $329
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15972
Coupon codes have changed so much lately that I don't know which ones currently work. I'll hafta dig thru my emails to find the most recent ones
EDIT: ok most recent code is "firsttime5" to save 5bucks. Older code that may be dead is "xmas30" to save 30bucks
So you think I should have gone with the esp instead of the prs? I want to try a esp but I already have two metal guitars.
Both are cool, but still dig the PRS more
I think a lot of people just getting RS are falling into the same trap I did at first, though. If it was cheap, I'd buy it. I ended up with a lot of guitars that I never played. Luckily, I made money on them when I sold them. That's why I'm just a Fender guy now. It cuts my field of buys down... That is, until you found all these damn BB deals. Now I'm buying another Fender this week... Darn you. ;)
In a way, it's inevitable. At least for me:).
No way I was gonna drop more than 100 on a guitar to start. I had to find out if I would like & stick with it.

Now I'm here with a Firebird thinking I'll never drop over a grand on a guitar#-o

LOVE that finish. Wow... You got a bargain! I just have to see what I can find this Friday. I think I'm going to take Friday as my fun day to run out and see if I can find another... I'm going to buy that '72 Pawn Shop unless something else catches my fancy in the other 2 stores.
Don't have an acoustic, but sounds like the electric string tweaked the neck.
Maybe give it a couple of days to settle back now that you put on the right string
No such luck. Got desperate and adjusted the truss rod. I little turn counter clockwise and the notes are no longer dead. Turned a little more just to see if I could reduced buzz. Got rid of a little, but I was afraid to turn anymore lol

Sam Ash is at it again. They just added another model to their Gibson blowout sale.
The Melody Maker dual p90 models are $429
http://www.samash.com/p/Gibson_Melody Maker Special Electric Guitar_1759059
Lowest priced American made Gibsons out there, unless you find any of the single pup Melody makers. But if you're considering these, you gotta compare'em with the Gibson LPjr's that Zzounds is selling at $500 (at least try to PM).

Amazon has the Schecter PT fastback @ $354
http://www.amazon.com/Schecter-PT-F...al-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1354610444&sr=1-29
If it's half as good as the standard PT, then you'll be real happy with it. Hard to say if it'll drop lower. Seen alot of other deals dry up sooner than they should've. But hey, maybe I'm just being too much of a cheapass:)

And Sweetwater has a Gibson LP 50s tribute Goldtop for $675
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPST5HGT/
Just purchased at $29.99 on Amazon.

Edit: It's the old version.
Thanks. Looks like they also put the New Version on sale @ $60

Hellomusic another G&L tribute tele @ $329, this time in trans-red
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=15975

And someone on SD noticed that MF has a couple guitars on sale, which also qualify for an additional 20% discount
Schecter SGR solo6 guitar(white)@ 143. Throw it in your cart and it goes down to $115
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...ch-sgr-solo-6-electric-guitar/h78876000003000
Schecter SGR c-4 bass guitar(white)@ 159. Goes down to $128
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...-sgr-c-4-electric-bass-guitar/h78875000001000
SGR is the new budget line for Schecter; kinda like what Epiphone->Gibson, Squier->Fender. Think Schecter started the budget line this past year.

And while digging thru, I found a few other guitars on sale.
Vox SDC33 @ $330 (all finishes)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/vox-sdc33-double-cutaway-solidbody-electric-guitar
Vox SSC33 @ $330 (most finishes)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/vox-ssc33-single-cutaway-solidbody-electric-guitar
Schecter Tempest @ $300(goldtop) or $330(white)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...esearch-2011-tempest-standard-electric-guitar
ESP h330-nt @ $250 (white
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/esp-h330nt-electric-guitar
Gibson Les Paul Nitrous @ $900 (electric lime, orange glow)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-nitrous-les-paul-studio-electric-guitar
Those Vox guitars have some interesting pups and selector switches. I'll try to post some review links that I found the other day

Itchin' to get on the road Friday :)

New DLC hint for next week tomorrow. According to Paul Cross's tweet, it's 2 more "MONSTER" additions the next 2 weeks... Each, if his tweet was any indication, will be an artist pack of 3 songs each...

I saw Target, in store, had the original version of Rocksmith marked down to $29.99 for both PS3 and 360, if anyone is looking for a copy.

Drastion... I'm not sure if I love you or hate you. I think I love you. I KNOW my wallet hates you...

Found a Fender American Tele PERFECT in black for 475 today with the SKB OHSC...

And now I'm sitting here debating a Schecter Damien Elite for... Wait for it... 167.99... I don't think I can pass it up...

EDIT: Ok, I passed on the Schecter. it was too similar to the ESP I have to justify buying it right now... Bought the American Tele...

Crazy... Less than half price from MF, and that's with MF having the Fender rebate on. Couldn't pass that up...

EDIT 2: I just realized that my Jaguar AND this American Tele were paid for with the credit from trading in my PS3 at Gamestop... Between flipping games, buying a Squier Rock Band Strat (that I them sold on Ebay) and $40 of Shopkick, it all but paid for both of these axes. Pretty awesome. God, I love CAG!
I was not looking to buy any pedals any time soon but with I deal like this I could not pass. J&r has some tri mode pedals on sale for 49.00 priced 179.99 at muscians friends. Price match will get you a $65 gift card. Price match music 123 and it will be less than 20.

www.jr.com/product/productListing.jsp?Ntt=akai+tri
Hmmm, where is the $65 gift card coming from?
Where did you buy this? Where was the schecter elite?
Both at a Best Buy about 70 miles north of me. The Schecter was mislabeled... It was labeled as a C-1, but it was actually a Damien Elite (EMG 81/85 Pups, cross inlay on fretboard, damien elite on the truss rod cover). They sell for 499 at MF and Amazon, but they had it labeled as a C-1 and the tag said "was 329, Now 167.99". I'm pretty sure they never sold it for that... So it was an amazing (mislabeled) deal - I just didn't need another "Rock" guitar...
Drastion... I'm not sure if I love you or hate you. I think I love you. I KNOW my wallet hates you...

Found a Fender American Tele PERFECT in black for 475 today
Congrats man!
Kinda moved on since it's slim pickins round here
Hmmm, where is the $65 gift card coming from?
Musicians friend current PM promo is 150%. But the way it works is to match the sale price of other store, then give 50% of price diff on a giftcard (good towards future purchase).

Alternative is Music123 who'll currently do 123% PM. No giftcard, but it brings the price down lower, without a future purchase requirement

Finally got around to picking up a copy at the local Walmart for $20. The guy working the register was shocked at the price.

Oh... Funny story about the Tele today... So I grab it and take it to the counter and the guy working there is a small Indian guy. I say "Can you grab the case for it?". He says it doesn't come with one. I say wrong and point the case to him and he says "I can't reach it." I'm like RU serious? I tell him to get a manager. The manger comes and looks at it and says "I don't know if I can reach it". I thought... Please don't make me call corporate and tell them someone blew a $500 sale because they didn't want to climb a ladder... Dumbasses. It's not like its a Cheapy case - it's a fender branded SKB hard case that goes for $149 by itself.

Anyway, there was the Schecter still at this store, a 40 watt tube fender classic reverb amp ($3?9), a left handed standard Strat ($179), quite a few pawn shop '72s and '51s (500-ish), some Gibson melody makers and not much else that caught my eye. Probably the picking are slim, at this point. If the pawn shops drop lower to the range of my jaguar, I may snag one. Otherwise, I'm done for now.

For those new to or looking to buy Rocksmith: RCA/Toslink adapter for Xbox
This is your best method for eliminating lag. I have mine set up with an HDMI and this. There are plenty if places to buy this for cheep, but I was browsing my emails this morning and came across it. $2.23 +shipping (I think usually around $2.50 or so when I've ordered small items from them). It made me think of the multiple times I've seen the issue of lag discussed in here. Not sure what the best solution for PS3 is however.

PSA Time:
Today's the last day for the Bestbuy RZone deal. Still some time left before stores close. Not likely to drop lower than $50 'til some time next year. So good time as any to get started.

And in general, Change your Strings!:). It's easy to get used to old strings. But it's sooo much nicer with a fresh set

Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the day is a Viper 330 for $249... usually $399. I can PERSONALLY vouch for this guitar. I bought a B stock copy from Hello Music months ago. It is a really nice playing rock/metal guitar. Comfortable neck, jumbo frets, EMG 81/85s.

I got my price match for the Akai distortion pedal from Music123. $19.10 after price match. Not bad for a $179 pedal :) Thanks yet again, Drastion.

Not that I need another one, but just got a 10% code from Amazon so maybe they will put up some nice deal on a guitar in the next week =]

What's the best way to utilize the rocksmith game for an absolute guitar beginner? And what should I be doing for practice in the beginning when i'm not using rocksmith?

Thanks in advance!

Work through the first songs. They lay the groundwork for what you need to know later. Once you open Ducks, play it some to help with the fret board.

For practice outside of RS, a lot of people have used the lessons on justinguitar.com - they're free and surprisingly good. They will give you a solid basis for playing the game. You'll be surprised how quickly you pick things up. Just don't get discouraged - it takes a long time to learn guitar, but it's awesome to be able to do it. If you're really serious about it, you'll see your time playing other games go down and you'll spend a couple of hours a day playing guitar...

Where's the cheapest place I can pick up the USB cable to hook this into a real guitar? This might be helpful info on the OP! :)

Thanks for your help! and yeah i've been playing the ducks game a decent amount trying to memorize fret placement.
Uh...it comes with every copy of the game, except the PC digital download versions.
I found a copy at a local game store, game only... no cable. This is why I asked the question.

Must've been either used or open box then, every sealed copy I've ever seen has it. Was it an Xbox/PS3 case only? The new ones come in a carton.

Sorry, should have mentioned it was used. Someone apparently traded it in, game only, no cable. It was less than $20 so I figured if I could find the cable somewhere that might be my cheapest route...

Just a question for people that got the schecter damien special last year. Were the frets on your guitar crowned? Found out that the flat ones on my guitar are not normal. Was that the same for anyone elses. Does not matter much now. Just trying to decide if I want to go threw the effort of crowning it myself.

Awe yeah! Bestbuy clearance find; check it out

A new RS cable goes for $30. If ya can, return the used copy and try for one of the old versions that are getting cleared out. Like someone else said, the Xbox version is $30 in-store

No probs with mine. So yours were flat, like a brick?!
Hope that schecter goes on sale again.
Saw it as a daily deal around $350. But noticed it too late to post it here. Haven't seen it get anywhere close to the price from last year.

There have been other models get close though. The Schecter PT @ 260. And they have the Fastback versions knocked down a bit right now.
328 for the black http://www.amazon.com/Schecter-PT-F...F8&qid=1355199595&sr=1-2&keywords=schecter+pt

Yeah did not know much about guitars then. I assumed extra jumbo ment extra wide flat tops. Kind of bumbed about it as now I need to spend 50-80 in tools just to fix something thst should never have been wrong. Heard so much about how amazing their fret work was. So me not knowing any better thought flat was some kind of great thing.

Amazon, Target and Gamestop all have the old version of Rocksmith at $30. Only, you'll hafta go in-store for either Target or Gamestop.
Amazon also has the new version of RS at $60

If you liked those Akai pedals from the other day, then you'll like today's stupid deal of the day. MF put the Akai analog delay pedal up for $30

Now, some guitar deals:

Yeah that's odd. Only issue I had were some sharp frets and even that wasn't noticeable thru regular use. Had to really look for it to even notice it.

And the PT I recently got was great outta the box. No issues at all; kinda surprised me that I didn't need to tweak it at all

I bet if we went through all 78 pages, we'd figure out just how many guitars you've bought ;)

Though I am up to 2 Fenders in 2 weeks. I'd better shut up :)

I sent a price match to music123, though I'm sure they'll deny it. All they have to do is wait a day and the price goes away, any way.

I got one of both the other ones at $19.10 each.

Maybe I'll start posting pics of RS compatible guitars, seeing as I bothered to setup a new pic acct;)

They'll usually only match the same price when it's within the same family of stores (gc, mf, m123, wwbw). But they'll just reject it cuz it's sold out now.
They've done that to me before:bomb:

Looks like musiciansfriend has gotten tired of all the akai pedal price matches. They are clearing them all out with their sdotd promo Distortion delay and chorus gone now they have the fuzz up.

One question, is the new version of rocksmith free of bugs and issues people are having with the old version, I wanna get it for ps3 version cause I dont have a 360.

Suppose to get my akai pedals today. But thought it funny that m123 called me a bit ago to say the order may be goofed. A label mix-up has them shipping fuzz pedals instead of the distortion; about 50/50 chance.

Personally don't mind as I tried to pm a fuzz but got shot down. Guess I'll find out soon enough

Think of the new version like a GOTY disc. It includes new stuff but runs about the same as the old version with any/all patches.
Don't have the PS3 version but you can check out the Official UBI forums on Rocksmith for the latest news

Joined the GC String Club, there's enough brands/sizes that I should not have to pay a penny more throughout the year, and it gives me the freedom to experiment between them a bit. Probably wouldn't have considered it though if it weren't on the way home from work. Dunno if it'd be any different in other states but in CA if you get a set for say 4.99 so tax puts you over the $5 you'd still have to pay the difference, kinda like how you can't get a tax free purchase even when paying in full using GameStop credit here.
