Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

If you still want it and still need other things for your guitar you can try price matching at musiciansfriend. You will pay the "full" price of $49. In two weeks they will send you a $65 gift certificate. I got my certificate today so it went through find. So as long as you need othet stuff like picks strings and such they will basically pay you $16 to buy the pedal. Heck I got one for a friend and they let me use a gift certificate on it. So $24 out of pocket for a pedal and a $65 gift certificate.
It depends on the price difference of the fender and how sure you are about sticking with learning guitar. While you may feel like you outgrown that dean down the road. Its nice to have a cheaper guitar around that you wont have to worry so much about messing up. I got that dean xmt last year would have kept it but they didn't include the tremlo for some reason sent it back and I was on back order for months. So I bought a schecter instead.

You really can't go wrong with those guitars they are all great. Trem guitars can be a pain to tune as each string you tune detunes the rest untill you get them all right. So with the few drop d songs in rocksmith can be a pain. You can always change songs out in journey mode though.
The Dean EVO XM is about $118 and the Fender and Vendetta are about $129. I can get the Fender from Best Buy for the same price ($129) and I've got a Best Buy gift card I could use. I don't mind shopping elsewhere for the guitar and getting a Dean from the different store and waiting a few weeks but I'm just not sure if it's worth it since I'm new and may not hear or notice a difference between the EVO/Vendetta and the Stratocaster Bullet. I've been reading that the neck on the Dean guitars is smooth which would make it easier to use.

Learning guitar is on my list of things to do. I don't plan on becoming a musician but my goal is that I'd like to be able to play parts or portions of some of my favourite songs.

The Fender is a bullet? Pretty sure best buy is semi clearancing the squier affinity which is an upgrade to the bullet and should be cheaper with the clearance. Then again maybe they are regular price in Canada.

Pricing in Canada seems a bit screwy compared to the prices that you folks are getting from American retailers.

Well, looks like I have some good news. I won't be needing an amp because I dug up my grandfathers old amp (and guild guitar) which happened to be a Ampeg GU-12 from the late 60s / early 70s. Famous for being used by the Stones during the "Exile on Main St." era. Seen it selling for $400+ online. Vintage tube amp. Hooked it up and it sounds pretty good clean. No gain so I'll have to order a distortion pedal. I missed the Akai tri mode distortion $19 deal but I found something that may be better.

Akai's website lists the deluxe distortion pedal for $39. Actually, every pedal I've seen is on there for $39. I price matched at music123 and it came out to $32 I believe. I'm fine with paying $12 more dollars for what seems to be a much more advanced pedal. Here is the link incase anyone wants to do the same.

http://www.akaipro.com/deluxedistortion

Bundled it with the Cherry Epiphone Les Paul Special (dual p90 pups, $79 price matched) and an 18.5ft cable ($2 price matched) for a total of $115. Not a bad deal. Now I have to figure out what to do with the current Epiphone Les Paul Junior I have. Gonna test out the difference between humbucker vs p90s when the new one arrives. The special kind of looks off without a pick guard but I suppose that could be added on.

Mastered a few songs on rocksmith recently too. Broke 200k on Go With The Flow by QOTSA. Pretty easy song though.

Great deal on those pedals. I got in early and when I found out I got a messed up pedal. I started looking into how to get it to work. Happily I ran across that site called musicians friend in the morning. Took about 17 minutes on the phone but I will get all the differences on price back to my card and according to other people an aditional e certificate.

Now I am really feeling guilty so many nice people at musiciansfriend. Now I will have paid $40 for the deluxe pedal AND get a $80 e certificate.

On the subject of pedals. Did anyone else here get a akai overdrive pedal that was missing the extra chips and have no door to put new ones in? Did it sound like a overdrive pedal? Don't have all the cables to test it out myself yet.

I want to send it back for a different one since the overdrive is the only one I really wanted. But if it works fine I am not sure how much I would mess with the chips anyways.

Guitar Center's weekly in-store deal is for the Schecter Riot 6 Deluxe @ $127.86
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Big-Cool-Deal-g25903t0.gc
From what I can tell, it was an exclusive model for GC and sold for $250. Overall nice choice at it's current price. And it's available in red, white or black.

I want to send it back for a different one since the overdrive is the only one I really wanted. But if it works fine I am not sure how much I would mess with the chips anyways.
OK... So you made me go check... And I can tell you something really strange. I bought 2 Overdrive pedals when I ordered. One came WITH the chips and the second door and one came without. The one that is without came with instructions for the distortion pedal so that it did not have the statement about the replaceable gain chips. Looks like they may have pulled that feature somewhere along the line... Strange. Now I'm glad I have 2. I have one that's customizable and one that isn't. Kind of cool. really.
You rock, xFate!!! Snagged a fuzz. Gonna snag a chorus today, too... Just waiting for the first order to finish processing. I was going to buy a case for my Jaguar anyway, may as well get it for free after the gift certs come to me... :bouncy: Pedals are still worth $40 a piece. They are REALLY nice pedals.

Have you plugged the both in and do they both sound like overdrive pedals?

Got an extra distortion pedal for a friend and the deluxe so I have plenty of distortion pedals already.

Yes - they both have overdrive sound. I don't know what the chips would do. The difference in sound is probably pretty miniscule. I will say that it's one of the best sounding overdrives I've ever heard. Clear and a good tone. I've had a few, and a couple were just downright shitty sounding. Not these.

I'll also say that anyone that bought one of those Kustom 5W or 15W tube amps a few months back got a great sounding amp. I bought the 5W version for $50. I wish I had bought the 15W for $100. It has a hell of a tone.

Ordered a fuzz from MF today for $40 (that'll get me $70 of GCs). The Chorus pedal went out of stock today at Akai before I could PM one. :(

Ah sounds good to me most people said the stock chip was the best anyways. Didn't want to go threw the effort of returning it unless it was somehow the wrong pedal.

So wish I got one of those kustom combo amps. Was busy with work and didn't have much time for a guitar so I totally missed out. Didn't even know about it untill it was long sold out.

If you don't mind branded gear. Musiciansfriend has there home branded gear 50% off with coupon code 50offmfgear.

You can get a gig bag and leather strap for less than $20 shipped. That and a pack of picks for $1.

Rocksmith (new version) is still $60 at Amazon and Gamestop Online also has all three versions for $60 each.

A quick check of that Yamaha guitar shows tons of very happy owners. Seems like a no brainer in that sub-100 price range

Did you submit just one price match or were they individual orders. Also, did music123 charge shipping?

Called the toll free number and had them price match all 3 things in one order. Free shipping. I just had the amazon windows up with the item numbers so I could steer them in the right direction.

Any chance of rocksmith going on sale during steam holiday sale? More than the current price of 20 bucks?

Edit: I mean more of a discount than the current price of 20 bucks?

I wouldn't think so... Do you already have the cable???

Managed to get the cable on clearance at walmart with a copy of the original rocksmith for PS3. And since it's the steam holiday sale there could be a chance that it is a daily deal or a flash deal for a deeper discount on the PC version

Tony from the Amazon thread stated that Rocksmith will be available for $15 sometime in January. I'm hoping that Steam puts it on a flash/daily/vote deal...though I doubt it would get lots of votes.

Here are a couple more Amazon Schecter deals for you to buy straight-up or PM with your fav music store.

Schecter Stargazer 6string guitar for $330.xx
http://www.amazon.com/Schecter-STAR...1356232995&sr=1-1&keywords=Schecter+stargazer
PM at m123 and it should get down to $257.xx(+tax)
it's possible the 'zon price will go up since they sold 2 units from yesterday to today

Schecter C-4 deluxe bass 4string
http://www.amazon.com/Schecter-Delu...F8&qid=1356233303&sr=1-8&keywords=schecter+c4
PM at m123 for $148.xx(+tax)

And don't know for sure, but been seeing chatter that the 123% PM deal ends Monday. Basically goes back to the old policy of 110%

It's like the Damien special that people rave about only with a different neck inlay and color, while being cheaper. If the special piqued your interest at all and you like the color by all means go for it.

Its a great guitar maybe a medium thick neck. Good tuners and bridge. For the price I doubt you wil find anything better especially if your into metal. Its mahogany so its got a darker sound and has a real nice weight to it. I would buy one but I got last years model already.

Here if you want to know what it sounds like

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nVUW1wgTbc

The other schecter alternative would be this. Its a ways more money and passive humbuckers. It does have coil splitting so you can get more of a single coil sound.

www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/sch...-c-1-standard-electric-guitar/584529000966000

Still think the damien is a better deal. So I would go with that. If you are not in a rush they will be having year end blow outs soon so another wave of deals coming. Really at that price its hard to go wrong unless there is something you have in mind like a les paul or stratocaster type setup.

Never called in for any price matches, though I probably should. Do they want CC info and everything over the phone too? Coupons still applicable?

I paid my CC for my Music123 match over the phone. It took a while, but a 90%+ discount was worth it :)

Yeah, they do. But if you've ordered thru'em before, they'll verify some info and ask if you wanna use what's saved on your account.

Coupons may not apply if you're already getting a PM deal. Usually one or the other. Stacking glitch got killed when people cryed that they couldn't abuse the glitch:roll:

And looks like most of the 'zon Schecters jumped back up. Hopefully everyone got in, that wanted one. Still see a couple bass deals and the white PT.

M123 might be getting tired of PM'ing Amazon:lol:.

Called in to PM this strap
http://www.amazon.com/Perris-Leathe...325916&sr=8-10&keywords=perris+leathers+glove
To their stock
http://www.music123.com/accessories...itar-strap-with-deluxe-soft-glove-leather-pad
Took a while and they limited me to 2 straps (wanted 3), but got two tobacco straps for $6.xx shipped (from $90). Not scorching hot but not bad either;). BTW, 'zon also has the black & chocolate brown straps heavily discounted.

http://www.amazon.com/Perris-Leathe...6325819&sr=8-4&keywords=perris+leathers+glove

http://www.amazon.com/Perris-Leathe...325840&sr=8-19&keywords=perris+leathers+glove

And there's this 2.5" model to PM
http://www.amazon.com/Perris-Leathe...6325916&sr=8-5&keywords=perris+leathers+glove
but not as big a discount as the other models

Skipped the triglide straps thinking I was good from the summer blowout. But hell, alwaysgood to have some extras

EDIT: Hey, anyone else having issues accessing CAG during the last couple of days? getting a bunch of failure to load page. Usually happens to me if there are server problems or if my anti-virus software is noticing something from the site. Just wondering if I'm the only one

Trying to decide on those myself. Got amazon retail match on the tri glide and 3.60 on the padded. Either try to get mf to match the tri or just buy a bunch of the cheap paded ones.

Pay twice and get money back or pay half and a more comforable strap.

Makes you wonder about the markup on some of these things. For a $380 set of gibson classic 57 I got a price match for $170.

Yeah, I'd rather pay less upfront, than force a future purchase just to avoid losing the gc amounts.

Might felt different if MF hadn't capped the GC's at 100

Is there any amazing deals on the cable or a way to get it cheap. I want to play it on the PC maybe this Winter or when it goes on sale at Amazon, but the cable being $30 kind of defeats the purpose. I really wish they just allowed input through the soundcard.

Best option is to find the old version on clearance at Sears or Walmart. The cable works across all platforms

Its not the gift cards that are capped at $100. It is the items that are capped. So you can get cards worth more than $100. It would just need to be from multiple items.

Funny how people try to work it like with that headphone deal.Buy $20 headphone get $40 gift card. So people try to buy loads of them to seel on ebay and get gift cards. Don't think it took too long for them to catch onto that though.

Does anyone know when best buy updates their dlc of there store? They sent me a $5 gift card and wanted to download the pantera set. It just isn't on there site yet.

Sorry, meant to say the item PM cap.

But think the Sam Ash blowout on Gibsons had a bigger effect. They a had a few different models selling at 300-600 below MF prices. So MF ends up selling the guitar at a big drop then give out another big chunk on a GC. Not long before you start chaining deals together. Whoa, just had flashbacks to the old Kmart coupon deals:lol:

Only way they come out ahead is if people fail to use those GC amounts before they expire

Thanks for the input. I wasn't able to jump on it until they raised the price to $500. It's okay tho, because I'm sure there'll be some good deals at the years end. Would these deals most likely be through amazon as well?

Should probably post another deal among all this talk:lol:

American Musical is selling giftcards, to their site, at a 10% discount. So a 25GC would cost $22.50 etc. And they sell'em in various amounts
http://www.americanmusical.com/Gift-Cards-Certificates
Plus most won't get hit with tax or shipping

Don't know if there'll be more Schecter drops after X-mas.

But take from me, you'll have other chances if you're patient and not too picky about any particular model. I should know#-o

If anyone's already PMed to Musician's Friend could you let me know whether the gift certificates are applied to your account automatically or are you given coupon codes to use with the value of the 50% difference? The whole cannot be combined with other offers bit is confusing me on whether they mean at the time of price match or time of certificate redemption (or both). Just wanting to know to decide whether I should aim for MF or M123; wish I wasn't so busy/lazy to do this beforehand because I would've loved some DR neon strings and those wide leather straps on the cheap.

What's the tri-glide straps BTW? Also by Perri's Leathers?

Skipped doing MF pm's because it was soo vague at first. But others that did it said they got an email after purchase with the e-giftcard code. Arrives anywhere from 2-4 weeks later IIRC. And suppose to be treated just like cash so if ya got a few codes, you can use'em together on a order.
But someone who actually did it should speak up

Triglides were Perri's as well. They were soft leather instead of suede and had a buckle to adjust length instead of the precut slots
