Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

Ugh, I'm sooo bored at work right now.

How's everyone doing on RS progress right now?
I finally got the last super-secret-special song unlocked last night. Got lucky that it gave me MM encore of Next Girl (one of the few MM songs I actually know how to play). Triggered the double encore and violin-ole... Star Spangle Banner is now unlocked.
And wouldn't you know it, my next event gives a plain jane encore (first one in probably a year).

Anyway one more thing checked off before I wipe out my save profile and start from scratch. Thinking I may just cheat my way thru SuperDucks and Chordead. After that just need a couple of cheevos on the Bass side (I'm sitting at level 9, think I need some 5mill more to Rumblesmith)

Once I do that, I'll wipe it out and just play the songs I enjoy or find challenging. Also plan on re-unlocking the secret songs thru bass first so that they're available on both bass and guitar.

Thanks to those that offered advice with my Best Buy situation. Unfortunately I had only had one shot at it. I live a good 2 -1/2 to 3 hours away from the store. I happened to be there to catch a stand-up comedian that night so I thought I'd see what they had in the clearance section of the 2 BB music stores. The telecaster was the one thing I wanted.

We did look up high and low for it, checked shelves of empty cases, and looked in the dedicated clearance room. They looked it up by sku and found 0 in stock. Then we looked it up by open box number and found it in stock, but still not physically. They couldn't figure out why it showed 0 in stock by the sku but did show stock on the "license plate". Never heard that term used for inventory before. At the end of the day I am disappointed, but I'm probably better off holding on to the money right now anyway.


As far as the bonus songs and encores are concerned: I started a new game and saved to a memory stick because I was having problems unlocking the bonuses. I started on bass until I got 4/6 I think. Then I switched to guitar for the rest. It was a piece of cake that way. It wasn't long before I had all 6 songs and was right back to the same level. Totally worth restarting if you're having trouble with unlocks. And once I got all 6 unlocked I don't think I've got another double encore since

Hey guys I ended up buying an Explorer Melody maker for around $430. Was that a good price? I love the design of the guitar and it is a beast compared to my first guitar. Any thoughts will be highly appreciated . Also I am trying to compare it to an Ephiphone Les Paul 3 that was also available. I just don't know what will be a better investment in the long run.

Looks like BB dropped some of their clearances even further. Not quite to the same level as last November's drops but they're getting close... May have even been a couple of restocks of stuff gone before. I am pretty much guitar-ed out at this point, though. Saw a few pedal drops, as well. Until the next drop, I'm fairly sure that I will sit this round out - although there is ONE Fender that I have my eye on. We'll see how a few of my eBay auctions turn out first.

After looking at the BB clearance lists, the vast majority of guitars around here just...disappeared. Down from 65 to about 15 for most stores. Dunno if they just removed from the website and they're actually still sitting in stores or if they really shipped the guitars back to manufacturers as unsold or what. Guess I'll go find out tomorrow.

It was an OK price but definitely not a steal. I've seen them for $300 before and was close to buying one. I came real close to buying a Melody Maker Les Paul for $280 and talked myself out of that one too. I've seen Melody Makers regularly priced around $600 on average I'd say and $430 is definitely much better than that.

I'd say it comes down to how much you like it. After all, I think the last time I saw them for $300 was in November or December. Musicians Friend and Amazon had them this price.

On the one hand you have a made in USA Gibson with a set neck, nitrocellulose finish (careful how you store it!), and a PLEK-cut nut. On the other hand you have a single humbucker guitar with no tone adjustment, a 3/4 scale body (that could be good or bad depending on personal preference), a worse looking headstock (opinion) with worse tuners, and a different (arguably worse) tailpiece.

For the same amount of money you could get an Epiphone Korina Explorer, which I think is a better/nicer guitar. Not trying to burst your bubble or have buyers remorse at all. Hopefully you love it since that's all that really matters in the end

Where were you checking out these guitars? I'm curious about the Les Paul. Is it the Ultra III? That's all I could find by googling. I'm pretty sure that's going to be a better option for you. How much was that one? Have a link to where you bought it?

Hey, congrats on whichever one you went with.

And nothing necessarily wrong with the Melody Maker as long as you're happy with it.
I took a look at them last year when a few places were clearing'em out around $300. Though seem to remember mostly LP's, SG's and Flying V's (no explorers). Mighta cared more about an explorer

Passed because I already had a basic guitar in my Epi LP jr (which I still dig) and thought I'd save up for a different Gibson. They had already announced those 70s Tribute Firebirds at the time.
Ended up with a silverburst @ $600

Sup guys, yeah I'm digging the guitar a ton. A little buzz on the first string, which seems to be a little issue with this model (Les Paul 3). I was checking them out at BB since they are clearing out or closing their Music Department, which is going to suck big time. I think it came to 420 at the end and got a couple DVDs too.
I'm trying to make my mind and back of from gaming to spend time learning guitar, which I should have done a long time ago :lol: I mean 100+ hours in BL2 makes me wonder what I could have achieved guitar wise, not that I regret it, but learning guitar has always been a thing I want to do.

It's trippy how much RS got under my skin. I didn't plan on giving up gaming for guitar, but that's pretty much what happened. My 360 is almost exclusively a RS machine, my Wii U is for Doctor Who (netflix) & Punchout, and my PS3 sits there looking all mean and dirty.

-once you upload a photo, click the links icon (looks like a cog)
-click on img link (should instantly copy link)

That's a nice collection you have there. All those explorers are really making me want to pick up a usa hamer. How long have you been playing to build up that setup.

Hopefully my guitar buying is over for a while. Have a pretty rounded collection. Nothing as nice as yours. Now its just upgrading since other than p90s and semi hollows I got my bases covered.

Just got to get around to building my own pickups. Then I can really have some fun.

On that note anyone know a source for cheap powergig guitars? More of just the guts of it than to use in its own game or rocksmith.

That's kind of a hard question to answer. I've been playing consistently since last Jan. (when i got Rocksmith of course) and that's when I've acquired the bulk of my collection. I've been "learning to play" for at least 4-5 years but that would only last for short spurts of maybe between a week and two months at a time before I would get frustrated or too busy. My practice sessions would be far too short as well. Anyhow, I've had the Kramer Focus, Kramer Imperial, and Custom acoustic for quite a few years and everything else has come in the last year and a half.

I have my dad to thank for most of my collection. He's told me a few times that they're early inheritance. Out of the 15, I've only paid for four of them: the two Gibson Explorers, the Dean BS Tyrant V, and the Kramer Assault 220. Thank god that's all I've had to pay for out of pocket as I have close to $3000 invested in those alone. And believe it or not they were all really good deals

And drastion, I know pretty much nothing about Hamer so I have no advice to give about them. But if you like explorers I can tell you that my Gibsons feel and play amazing. Some people will say that Gibsons are overrated and you pay just for the name but my Thunderhorse Explorer is the most amazing guitar I've ever played and would gladly buy it over again if anything were to happen to mine

That's great to have a father as a bit of musical inspiration. I knew I would not stick with it no matter how bad I wanted to play. Then rocksmith came along. Had TONS of frustration. The game always had the intant feedback. That way even though I wanted to destroy my guitar at times I always knew I was improving.

Just wish I had more time and they would release songs targeted at different people. Not much modern music and very few oldies like hendrix or the beatles.

My two local BB's are clearing out the entire Musical section. But their not blowing out prices. More of a drip drop pricing, at least for the good stuff

And stock is real slim too. The wall of guitars was half-full and a bunch of the ones there were the low-end stuff that used to be in the clearance room.

Oh well, I don't expect to get anything unless I luck out.
BTW, workers said the MI dept was gonna be converted into a massive clearance room for all store goods. Any music gear that doesn't sell will just sit there indefinitely. But absolutely NO NEW gear

I think the store closest to me actually sold off their new Pete Wentz bass for $85 ($100 base -15% "we just took it out of the box two days ago but here's an open box discount for you!" bonus). I don't think you can even buy enough wood for a bass on your own for that cheap.

Another BB find, though only saw it on the site, was the Yamaha rbx174 @ $55.xx (silver only, other colors were still over 100). It was at a fairly far away store from me so no visual confirmation. And when I tried finding it again, it was gone. Mighta been a fluke, don't know.

Took a while, but all the PW bass guitars sold @ 150 around here. I still think it was worth it at that price.

Unless I'm remembering wrong those have actually been 399 since the great November clearance. At the very least I distinctly remember one sitting next to the $338 MIJ Jaguar and wondering why the more expensive street price model had a bigger discount. As for the Mustangs, are you talking about the Pawn Shop or Classic Series one? If it's a Classic Series daphne blue then those should already be $300 since the November clearance too.

The pawn shop Mustangs are now 399 for the daphne blue and 499 for the candy apple red. The 60s classic series was 327 when I bought it, but up until last week the 50s roadworn series was 499 in my stores. The other pawn shops are 399, too - the '51s and the '72 thinline. Everything dropped some last weekend.

My stores only have a few good guitars left. The Mustangs, a couple of standard strats at $299, I think, and a bunch of basses... Still haven't got a bass. I just am happy learning guitar and I'm not near as good as I'd like to be, so I don't want to dilute the time I get on guitar.

Watch out for those Maestro guitars; they're bottom of the barrel in quality and designed to compete with those First Act and Peavey guitars you'll see in Target/Walmart. Kinda like the Starcaster line for Fender. You could end up with an ok one, but plenty of better stuff out there in the $100 range.
For example, saw the Guitar Center Memorial Day sale ad and they have an Epiphone Les Paul Special 1 for $90 (faded black or faded cherry)

But if you want more bang for your buck, check out a local bestbuy that has the instrument dept. My local one had a Dean 350 (think that's the model) on clearance for $150

Don't know about the SGR other than it being Schecter's attempt to create an entry line of guitars. Think 2012 was their first year on the market.

But I figure I won't be getting anything because of the fact that I'm pretty happy with what I currently have. So anything else would hafta ta be a really stupid deal or I won't jump on it. Like those pawn shop models would need to be sub-300 to get my attention. Crazy I know, but I'm not itchin for any of it.

I'm glad you're liking your LP. Explorers are awesome and probably my favorite style of guitar, but you would do better to save up a bit and get a better one than the Melody Maker. Glad to hear you're having fun and making progress.

As far as that BB deal of the day: I've never played one, but my understanding is that Maestro is basically Gibson's answer to First Act. I've seen a few on Craigslist in about the $60 range and never thought they were a good deal. Poplar and basswood body tells you a lot. Both are super soft wood (even though poplar is technically a "hardwood") and won't have much in the way of tone or resonance compared to your normal guitar woods. And even with that thick poly finish is probably going to dent and chip pretty easily.

Actually, there was still an American Standard Olympic White Strat in that store, too. There are a BUNCH of Fender and Squier basses. There was also a Pete Wentz bass.

I haven't even had time to play with the HD500 I got. It's still in the box. I have been playing some RS at night, though. Working on "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Harder to Breathe" for now. Until "Jessie's Girl"... Then it's all about that song until I have it mastered and memorized.

Anything I'm getting now is basically because they're "Chinese crap" still boxed up hidden somewhere in the store that nobody else realizes is there. Not that the country of origin thing bothers me, I still feel the Classic Vibe series is amazing value even at street in the grand scheme of things. Less than $200 for a new one just makes it all the more ridiculous. The tension of dutch auction style clearancing is starting to get to me I think lol

So I went in to a local music store to look for a Smashing Pumpkins tab book only to find the store in complete disarray. They were moving or remodeling I guess. The guy said he couldn't look any stock up but to have a look myself and directed me to the "tab section", a giant set of piles all along one wall. They were having a sale so I figured I'd have a go at it. I didn't find what I was looking for but came away with a massive haul none the less. The sale was $3/lb, which I thought sounded both weird and expensive. But when all was said and done I walked out with 19 books for $48 +tax; about $2.50 a book and at a total savings of 87% off cover price. I wish I had time to keep looking for more. I have found tab to be much more difficult than Rocksmith but now I have so much to choose from. Btw, still looking for a Smashing Pumpkins tab book if anyone has one they are looking to get rid of. eBay and amazon are too expensive.
