Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:
>>guitar advice, initial posts #26, 34, 35
>>guitar accessories, initial posts #49, 51, 56
>>learn about Rondo Music guitars on post 642
This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

So there's a Rocksmith Disc Import pack on the DLC list for $9.99

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Rocksmith-Disc-Import-Pack/421b9a23-4b5f-42b8-9d40-85c6d638350d

At least it's a little clearer how the on-disc songs from the old Rocksmith version will work on RS2014. But man, 13 songs won't carry over. Sucks cuz I liked a few of them.

Still no sale on the last of the old DLC.
But they still have last weeks sale items available

Is the new DLC up yet?

Also question on the new DLC, will it work on the original Rocksmith? I assume not.
New DLC is up but ya gotta check Rocksmith 2014, not the original RS.

No new DLC will work on the old version. Too many upgrades have been made for them to bother coding separate versions of each song

Thanks.

I didn't see that import pack when I checked the PSN story earlier. I assume that we are getting it as well.

You are correct that new songs will not work on the original Rocksmith I just checked.

Is any place offering RS 2014 below MSRP this first week?
Yeah, I don't think so. If you have some Power Up Rewards points and don't mind doing a little leg work you can do what I'm doing: Get the steal of the week coupon from Power up Rewards (Buy 1 Get 1 Free on used Wii/DS games) for 1,111 points. Buy 2 of the cheaper Pokemon games from this list: http://www.gamestop.com/trade2 for around $30 with coupon, go to a different Gamestop and trade the Pokemon games in towards Rocksmith and you will only owe $10. Like I said, not ideal, but its one way.

Nice! It ain't the craziest deal I've ever seen, but those Pokemon DS games are everywhere and 1/3 off of a game day 1 that I was going to buy for full price is still good! :) Thanks!

BTW - only 5 songs do not carry over... The 2 by Seth Chapla, the one by Chris Boss and the 2 songs with Clapton as the guitarist.
 Everything else carries over.

More than that unfortunately.

Here's what is listed on the DLC Import description.

Congratulations! You are entitled to download the Rocksmith Disc Import Pack, which allows you to play updated versions of on-disc songs from the original Rocksmith game on Rocksmith® 2014.

Does not include:

Stone Temple Pilots - Between the Lines

Stone Temple Pilots - Vasoline

The Cure - Boys Don't Cry

Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook

The XX - Islands

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

The Pixies - Where is My Mind?

Jarvis Cocker - Angela

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

EDIT: thanks for clearing up the missing songs. Not so bad when it's only 5, but still would liked having SSB considering I haven't had it unlocked for very long so only have a handful of playthru's

Eric Clapton - Run Back to Your Side

Cream - Sunshine of Your Love

Seth Chapla - Star Spangled Banner

Seth Chapla - Jules

Chris Lee - Boss

Don't care about some. But will miss having the upgraded features for some songs like SSB and SHA

Just got the game. It makes you select rhythm or lead for guitar before playing. I selected and lead and now I've noticed that on some songs (Don't Look Back in Anger) Rhythm isn't an option. Has anyone sorted out a way to get that available?

Never mind. This can be changed under "my path"

They just didn't update the description. The only 5 songs missing are the ones I said are missing. The last 5 on this list...

Where can I get the game in store without a preorder?

Id prefer not to get it at gamestop lol
Nowhere but GS had it here. BB is only carrying the cable version, thus far, and Target didn't have it at all. I didn't check WalMart, simply because the WM I was near is the drug dealing Mexican people in the parking lot WM. I avoid it when my kid is with me.

I have all of the R1 songs imported into my library. The only tracks that did not transfer are the tracks crazedracerguy listed. I'm on the PS3 system. I'm kind of bummed out that some of the tracks weren't on sale today. I'm thinking this trend will continue because they want people to purchase the new DLC tracks.

Did you buy it at GS?

and if so, did you get the preorder code for the song even though you did not preorder?

not that big of a deal, just curious

I did buy at GS. I didn't get the preorder song - probably just because I didn't ask. I'm not a Smashing Pumpkins fan at all.

BTW - if you;re on the fence about 2014, don't be. Session mode is, quite honestly, and not exagerrating, BRILLIANT. Like, amazing, incredible, earthshatteringly brilliant. It's worth the $60 alone.

The new techniques are cool. The rework of some of the songs have added a lot. The tone switching is AWESOME. One of my favorite songs - Panic Switch - is insane with the tone switching.

The only negative is that I did have one complete freeze (on 360) and had to reboot... but that was like 4 hours of playing tonight.

It's so good that my stomach is a little sick tonight (diarrhea sick) and I'm a little glad, since I may just take off tomorrow. :)

My system only froze 1 time as well. It was right after I imported the R1 tracks. I played about the same amount of time as well. Good luck w/ the bug.

If anyone did get the preorder code and isn't a fan, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. I'm a huge SP fan but funds were tight & I wasn't able to get the game preordered. I'll be getting the game very soon hopefully. I feel kinda dirty begging for codes, but I'm going to just this once

They just didn't update the description. The only 5 songs missing are the ones I said are missing. The last 5 on this list...
Thanks for clearing that up.

Nowhere but GS had it here. BB is only carrying the cable version, thus far, and Target didn't have it at all.
Man, didn't even realize this. Thought stores would be more willing to stock the no-cable set since it's not the big bulky box.

I had to pre-order the no cable version of 2014 from Best Buy to be able to get it shipped to me. Should be here tomorrow, which I'm OK with.

So what does everyone think of the game so far? I've only played it for an hour or so and really it was just 3 songs: Don't Look Back In Anger, R U Mine?, Everlong.

My thoughts:

- Where is Venue mode? Is it called something else?

- Either I really need to calibrate my guitar or this game is unforgiving. A song I've known how to play for years, Don't Look Back in Anger, is showing me missed notes when playing and I know I'm playing it correctly.

- The layout is vastly better than it used to be. The finger position numbers are helpful and not having the notes rotate 90 degrees when they should be played is a welcome change.

- The new menu is a much needed improvement and the load times are almost non-existent compared to the original Rocksmith.

MANY people have. Look up Audrey123talks or sfenton24 on YouTube. Both started from scratch and had no lessons. Audrey is like 8 years old now.
Cool! One more question:

Should I buy the package that includes a guitar, or buy my own cheaper guitar and Real Tone cable?
This game looks amazing, but I'm trying to figure out the most frugal way to buy get everything I need.

If I should buy my own guitar, any recommendations on which one?

Thanks for any help.

I got the Schecter SGR Solo-6 with Rocksmith 2014 from best buy for a total of 136 with tax, delivered with the $50 dollar off any guitar promo they are doing. Gets me the guitar for $50 that is around $130 at Guitar Center and $170 (third party seller) on Amazon.

I even already had the cable and it was cheaper to just get the new version with the cable because the no cable version does not trigger the promo. Figure now I can play local multiplayer at some point in the future.
I'm trying to order it, but the PC version is described as not having the cable. Is that just listed wrong?

Try adding this PC version. Looks like it has the cable, should at 80 bucks. Price on the guitar will drop 50 once both are in the cart.

It looks like all the Rocksmith games, with or without cable, say not-included at the bottom of the BB description. Copy and paste description job. The ones that are game only say so in the title and on the game art itself. Looking at BB and amazon there isn't a no cable PC version, so you should be good.

Thanks man. I might just pick this up.

The use of the coupon Steal of the week and trade in at GS across the street netted me the game for $40.2x after tax... Not too bad for day 1.
Glad to hear it. I scored the same deal with little trouble yesterday (needed an override for the SOTW coupon, but it is supposedly working correctly today). I'm seriously considering hitting the same stores in reverse on Friday for Batman...

Back on topic, I only played for a few minutes, but I am digging the new interface and whatnot in the game. Reduced load times are a huge plus.

I broke down and ordered the Best Buy deal. Picked up the Schecter SGR C-1 guitar, after seeing good amazon reviews.

I'm having second thoughts and thinking about canceling it, as i'm afraid the guitar or game might not work with my pc, but I'm not sure how cancelled orders from PayPal payments works.

I'm always this paranoid after large purchases.

Stay calm, it will work fine and if not best buy is usually good about returns.

Good to hear its going to be available for download soon...I have a bunch of microsoft cash I want to dispose of.

Edit: Nov 1 is the GOD date...

I'm having the same thoughts on the same sort of purchase. Only difference is I went with the Strat-Mini so that I can give it to my son. I really wish I could've done the same deal without the cable.

Cables can wear out and fail over time. Having extras on hand doesn't hurt.
This.

I went wireless on day 1 of RS1, so my cable never moves, but they have a pretty high failure rate if you aren't wireless. I have 2 sealed copies of RS1 still on my game shelf, just in case.

Well, I think of it this way: There are worse ways to spend money than learning to play an instrument, right?

Did the Gamestop two-step and got my 360 copy of the game only. Thanks for the heads-up Mpaullin.

Of course it was gutted... those :censored:

Don't really mind that GS is the only B&M carrying the "game only" version. But hate that my local shops all only got one copy in per store (believe me, I checked around before caving).

Well, now just gotta wait for the update DL and the Import DL before I get to stay up Stupid-Late :bouncy: .

Guess who's gonna be unproductive at work tomorrow.

Yeah, best thing you can do is eliminate as much stress on the RS cable as you can. Much cheaper to replace usb or instrument cables than the RS cable and they're easier to find too.

I switch back and forth between wireless and wired depending on whether I'm solo or playing with someone else.

But I never touch the RS cable. I use a simple USB extension cable to run from the console to the RS cable... then tuck the RS cable behind the console with the lead coming out to one side.

From there it's easy for me to connect my wireless unit or to run an instrument cable. Funny enough, I've killed a couple of regular instrument cables from letting them hang off a cabinet. Caused enough stress from hanging down to kink the cable some. At least GC replaced for free.

Hell yeah. You could just spend it on hookers and blow... Wait... Is that a worse way? I'm not sure.
That woulda been cheaper than everything I've spent because of Rocksmith :whee:

What wireless cables are you using? Also, does it cause any lag?

My current setup is RS cable to my guitar and I use Gaming headphones to cut down on the lag and not have the sound coming out of my TV to disturb neighbors.

Anybody know if the boxed copy of the game comes with a guitar strap? I'm not talking about the bundle that comes with the guitar. I just mean the game. A friend of mine says he thinks it does, but I wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.

I have a bad feeling the guitar doesn't come with one. :(

Not like I can't buy one, I'm just lazy :)

I have an Altec wireless unit. A lot of people use a Nady unit. A cheap, decent wireless unit can be had for 50-100 bucks.

Your RS cable goes from 360 to the back of the wireless unit. You have either a small plug that has a wireless transmitter OR a cigarette pack sized box that hangs on your belt and the wire from that plugs into your guitar. No more wires. I use a turtle beach wireless XP400 headset an walk around while I'm playing.

Only bundle I remember getting a strap was the Guitar bundle.  And that strap wasn't all that great.  The Ernie Ball strap that you can get at BB for $5-6 would be better.  But something much stronger and durable would be those Dunlop straps that were recommended way back at the beginning of the thread.  Think those still go $10-15 each.

Like Crazed said, run the RS cable from your console/PC to whatever wireless unit you have.

In my case I use the WMS 40 pro mini.  Never had problems and the battery lasts forever.  Still rocking the same AA in mine, a year later.
