Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out
Yeah, the BB has gotta have the full-blown music dept for you to have any chance at some of these clearance deals. And even then its a slim chance. Only way to know for sure is to go in person. Good luck
I think the only BBs that have music depts are in NYC and LA... But if Guitar Center just makes you prove the final cost, you can total the entire order without hitting the order button... Of course, the GC price match policy excludes close out items...
Has anyone else gotten there tyrant blood storm yet? I have about lost my patience with amazon. Again they sent me a returned item. They didn't even bother to put tape on the darn box. I haven't spent much time with it thought its wiring was messed up when one site said it had a volume and tone nob. It sure has a lot of bottom end in the neck pickup. Almost want to keep it for that and the two knobs. If I did it would probally just stay in the closet though.
I think I should be getting mine tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll be super-pissed if they send me a returned unit. Not sure what I'll end up doing with it since I mainly picked it up since it was such a discount. I wonder if a local guitar store will let me trade it in on something worthwhile .

All the neck tags were taken off and the tool pouch was emptied and all the wreches were rolling around in the storage compartment.

Guess some one ordered it because it was so cheap and didn't like it. I would keep it but I bought two guitars in the time I was able to get it and check it out.

Great Score!!!!

That was one of the few guitars I was looking for. Did you call ahead to see what they had. I called with a bunch of sku numbers but came out empty.

I used the list you gave us of the Music stores yesterday.. I had to go north for a computer trouble ticket today and when I was done, figured "What the hell?". I called the store and asked for musical instruments. When the guy came on, I told him I had a dumb question... That I had seen a bunch of clearance prices online at BB.com for guitars, but couldn't verify if they were real or not. He said they had a BIG sale on some guitars, what was I interested in... I told him mainly Fenders. He said he had a couple of pawn shops and a couple jaguars. I asked him what the prices were, but he couldn't tell me over the phone. I just laughed it off and said "Are the apeshit lowball prices that you can't believe?" and he said yes... So after my call, I drove the 30 miles to the BB and saw 2 things that caught my eye - the Black Jaguar Special (Rosewood fingerboard, MIJ) for $329 (I knew it was about 699-799 in the other stores) and a '72 Pawn Shop Tele in Seafoam Green for $504. The tele was a good deal, too, but I REALLY wanted the Jag... SO he looked for the gig bag, but couldn't find it - he found one for a tele that they didn't have any more and tossed it down to me and let me have it. I walked out with the axe.

I didn't see much else. Some decent Bass deals... The Pawn Shop Tele. He said he had done the tags yesterday, so there weren't any hidden finds, as far as I know. They definitely had bags and hard cases for stuff that wasn't hanging - so some of the hard cases MAY have had guitars in them. I just wanted the Jag and had my mind made up...

I just took a chance. Hell, it was only 45 minutes and 30 miles. The POSSIBILITY of a cheap Fender was worth it.

EDIT: Oh, by the way... When I hijacked a computer in store to check the inventory to see if it matched up in ANY way, when I clicked on the Clearance inventory, it told me that store did not have ANY clearance inventory... Weird, since every other store that does not carry these is showing in stock :)

You are. so lucky I want thaf guitar even more now. Glad I was able to help you out get a great deal. Best buy took down their entire in store clearance section ofline last night. So nothing shows up for anything. Have fun with her she sure is a beauty.

Thank YOU so much for your help. I would have had no idea to make that drive today otherwise... Hope you get a chance to find one...

I REALLY may have to go back after that '72 Pawn Shop Tele...

I noticed this last night. My local BB had two Oscar-Schmidt Mandolins (A and F-styles) on clearance for dirt cheap. Online had the option to order online for in-store pickup, but I was running out the door, so I figured I would just drop by and pick one up. The guy that was helping me couldn't find them anywhere in the store and suggested that somebody stole them :)roll:), so I figured I would just try placing an order when I got home and maybe have someone more knowledgeable try to locate them. Nope. Clearance inventory disappeared in the two hours I was away from the computer. :/

Yeah not so lucky for me spent most of the last for days and most of the minutes on my cell. Always wanted a strat or jaguar as all my favorite artists all play them. Want a good one but my skill level doesn't justify the cost. So I am to say the least intensely jealous if your find. Thought it was perfect timing but aparently not.

Well, RS deals for the new version are done for now. But if the pattern follows last year's release, then there should be another 50-60 sale within a couple of weeks.

Over at Sweetwater, they have a Squier VM jazz bass for $199
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JBassVM3TS/
This one's usually in the 270-300 range.

And borrowed this next deal from the HM forums. Amazon has a Kindle book (aka download) to better learn scales, for a BUCK
http://www.amazon.com/Building-Better-Guitar-Scale-ebook/dp/B0046LV8QE
Did a quick read-thru and kinda get what their teaching, but gotta really give it a good read to properly understand. Anything to get better amirite:)
HOLY SHIT!!!! Just went to a BB with a music store... And bought a Fender MIJ jaguar Special HH for $337.99... WOOOOOoooooo!!! Pics later.
Damn, first shot and you find something. Congrats man:beer:
What ya do, hit up a BB out in the boonies. I stopped looking after checking my two local sites. Not that I'm complaining; pretty happy with what I got right now;).
Also trying to find a way to swing for another one of these oddball Gibby blowout models. Love my current one and have messed around with a couple others
... so I figured I would just try placing an order when I got home and maybe have someone more knowledgeable try to locate them. Nope. Clearance inventory disappeared in the two hours I was away from the computer. :/
The online order most likely woulda failed. Even when you could add stuff to your cart, it would vanish as soon as you clicked checkout (at least for me anyway).
Think they pulled the inventory checker to stop all the calls:lol:
Haha thanks for getting the extra cables guys. It was in my cart and I was ordering when it went our of stock.
I got my friend a copy of rocksmith. He says he has a usb cord for his old guitar. If that works for rocksmith on his xbox I will have an extra cord I might be able to send you. Don't want to make promises. But if his cord works I will have no use for a extra cable.

crazedracerguy

If you happen to run into another HH jag or one of the american strats. Maybe try and work something out threw paypal. Just a thought I just really want in on one of those deals.

I'll let you know. I really am going to try and hit a couple more of those stores next week maybe - when I get my "extra" paycheck... What's 90 miles when you can possible grab a couple more cheap Fenders??? :) Darn my shitty credit. If I still had my Best Buy card, I'd be going on a rampage.

That same store actually had a silver HH Blacktop Jaguar, but it was not on ANY sort of clearance. - which I thought was weird how they were picking and choosing... I really need to go back to that store and poke around a bit. I was just excited and then I had to get back on the road to get to the office and home...
In the same boat, I barely have time to even play so even if I ran into a USA Fender I'm not sure I want to pay 450-600 for one even if it is a great deal. I did find a Schecter C1 black for like 165+tax though, don't know if it's worth bothering with.

If there is any chance you take up guitar, I highly recommend buying American.

I've got a '59 Melody Maker and an '03 Stratocaster. That Mexican garbage at Guitar Center doesn't even feel right.

Depends on what you're getting. My MIM Tele from 2004 or so is one smooth playing guitar. What you REALLY have to look out for now are things like Fender's "Modern Player" series that are made in China. There is nowhere near the quality coming out of China that there was/is in Mexico or Japan.

Epiphone LP junior is almost here. Estimated to be here tomorrow. Pretty excited on one hand but bummed on another that I missed the $9.99 MS store deal. I'll be looking everywhere in the coming days for deals on the old version. Don't want to spend over $20 really.

Check every Wal Mart you see... The old versions will probably be down at the bottom. They were ringing up 19.99 in some stores. Never saw anyone confirm whether it was everywhere or not... It's worth a shot.

That 9.99 deal was out of stock in about 15 minutes...

Thanks. I'll probably shoot over to one today. I'll post my results. Was it a BF only thing?

Go Steelers btw. It's about time I throw up an avi and maybe a sig.

Nope. Just clearing out the old version...

LOL - don't say that too loud. There are plenty of haters. :)

Hm...lots of people like the classic vibe squiers and put them up there with MIM fenders, and the modern player series comes out of the same factory with a different name on the headstock. And the silver burst strat is pure sex ;)

Some of the guitars that come out of China are probably really good. In fact, I've heard or noodled on a couple that were nice. As a general rule, though, it seems like there are more quality concerns coming from the axes there than US or Mexico. Just tings like sharp frets, glue issues, etc. Of course, a lot of that can be spotted by just doing a good hands-on inspection of anything you're going to drop money on.

I posted on 11/18 about the $19.96 price at Walmart, not sure if anyone else had posted before that, but I didn't see a post about it. Both Xbox and 360 versions, and not related to Black Friday. I've seen them at that price (not always labeled that price, but ringing up that way) at 3 Nashville area Walmarts. I don't know if it is that price everywhere, though.

As for the game itself I've noticed that multiple toysrus have the version with bass next to the 40 dollar price tag...might be worth a shot especially since someone else reported getting shipped the new version.

Proficiently pilfered from SD:
ESP-ltd ec50 (les paul type) guitar for $100 from Sonicelectronix
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_61952_ESP-EC-50-2TB.html
Really good price. But never ordered thru this site so don't know how reliable they may be.
Someone also found a SG like bass for the same price

You could also try Sears. Someone found them on clearance for $10

My local stores in so-cal have'em at $20 and they're usually slow to match price drops. so good chance most other locations have already dropped. Good luck xfate

Sometimes ups my choice is a curse. They tell you when you are going to get your packages. Told me I would get my prs tomorrow. Last night they said today. Now I am just sitting on my hands. Really crappy part is he always seems to get here just before I have to leave for work.

Gah even worse now. He dropped off my 3d tv and just left. Those guys move quick. I hope its just because he didn't realize I had two packages. Don't like the idea of my guitar just sitting there all night while I am at work if he comes back.

lol, went into my local BB to look for guitars, being skeptical, and found them in a room in the back corner of the store. I never ventured that far back into the store since I started living here in 2000 (past the videogames, no doubt), so for all these years, I never noticed...

Hence the clearance prices :)

They had a clearance on only one guitar, can't remember which, but the clearance was unremarkable. This is the Mt Laurel, NJ bestbuy.
Just checked my local Wal-Mart in Upstate NY and they had about 4 in clearance for each system but all were priced at 49.99
Sorry I have to ask this, but was it just marked that price, or did you have it scanned?

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it. Took a ride down to Walmart earlier. Unfortunately every worker I've run into at this store is nothing but ignorant. Went to the electronics department and took a look in the game case window. Didn't see it up top so I figured it was on the bottom. It was a mess down there so I asked 2 different employee's if they can open the case and look if it's in the bottom. Both told me, cockily may I add, that "if it ain't in the case - we don't got it." I asked to speak to a manager. After 25 minutes of standing there like an idiot with no one showing up, I just left.

The next closest Walmart and Sears are over the bridge in jersey so I doubt I'd make that trip. I'll just learn via JustinGuitar for the next few days hoping a nice deal pops up. Guitar should be here in the morning :D

I imagine it has a lot to do with the area AND if the guys that work in the music room are players... I don't know what their discount is, but that Jag would've been long gone if I had worked there. There were only 2 clearance at the one I hit. The Pawn Shop Tele was a good deal, the Jaguar I bought was an insane deal. I still think there may have been gold upon the shelf with the cases, but I had run out of money and time.

Well... The lure of another cheap Fender caused me to sell my second Squier Rock Band Guitar without ever opening it :) Going to check the other 2 "local" (70 miles away) stores before I go back for the '72 Pawn Shop Thinline Tele...

Good luck I hope you make another great find. Post pics again if you find something. Its always fun to see other peoples guitars.

I got in on the rocksmith $10.00 Microsoft store deal last week, and am looking forward to playing it. I have a question for those who play it, though. How does it handle lag? In Rockband, my system has a video lag of 60 milliseconds and audio lag of about 150 milliseconds. Rockband handles it by delaying the audio. In Rocksmith, do you hear your guitar or do you hear the original audio like you do in Rockband? Do you have any problems with lag when you play? I'm not sure how it works. Thanks!

Lag is all but eliminated if you use the setup they recommend. If you can't be bothered to do that then it's probably not for you. There's previous posts in this thread about it.

For me on a 360 this was pretty easy. I cut the casing off my stock RCA cable and used it to run audio to my stereo. Then I ran video to my TV using HDMI. 5 minute job with a knife (the casing is artificially large to keep you from doing this). I think I had to tweak my audio settings on my xbox.

Yeah like the above post using the red white and yellow cables eliminate lag. For the sound the song is played as a back track. Then a effect is added to your guitars sound to make it more like the original bands. You. an unlock that effect if you score well enough. Also there is a amp mode where you can choose you own effects and just freestyle it with out the note highway.

Cool...Our second Xbox is the old model without an HDMI, so I will plug the audio into a stereo instead of the TV and just play on that one. That way, I don't have to undo the HDMI on our main Xbox.

Thanks for the info!
