Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

thanks for the review. Seems decent enough. But can see shipping being a problem. That's part of what has held me off on any Rondo buys.

Just noticed that even with the sale prices, you'd spend nearly 300 if ya got all the DLC:shock:

But it's more like a nasty cocktail of

*crazier holiday PM policies
*GC money just sitting there

Also helps that I dig the Rickenbacker-like look.
It is a really nice player. Super slick and easy to play. Haven't had to tweak a thing, save for the tuning.

But wth, here's the rest of the Schecter Squad (obligatory crappe' cellphone pics to follow):

I know I was not too stoked about them not increasing the discount on the DLC as well...I was waiting for this during the whole sale...and then they just left it at 35% for the DLC!

Agreed. I was also hoping the DLC would go 50% off also but I was still willing to buy the songs I wanted along with Rocksmith PC now. I am glad I waited, I almost jumped on this last night before it hit 50%.

Being an original owner of the PS3 version, it was a great deal. Bass addon + dlc (though I had to buy a couple of repeats) for only just over $33. Much better than buying the PS3 Bass Addon :). Though I am starting from scratch again in the game.

Monoprice shipping is a little under six bucks overnight for ca and az and I had to buy other stuff there anyway so it didn't really bother me at the time, especially with the 20% off coupon. Rondo on the other hand is based in nj so IRS like 18 to ship to me minimum. I wonder at what point I'll stop loading up on cheapies for a few nicer ones, even if just for space reasons.
I wonder at what point I'll stop loading up on cheapies for a few nicer ones, even if just for space reasons.
I did the same thing when I started playing... Good thing was, I got the cheapies for SO cheap that I made money on them when I sold them... Right now, if I could get rid of the PRS Allender that I HAD to have and the ESP Ltd Viper 330 that I bought just to have a "metal" guitar, I'd SO go back and find more Fender stuff at BB - even if I had to drive 150 miles or so to find something, it'd be worth it (and do-able in a day. I have like 200 hours of leave to take, anyway)... Then I'd be an all Fender shop :)

It's too late now but does the adapter for the PS3 also work for PC? I already own it on PS3 but would love to play on the PC also. The $20 steam price would have been golden if the adapter is compatible lol

I believe the adapter can be used on the PC/360/PS3 without issue.

Well, if I believe some of the snobbier guitar sites I've visited, then all my guitars are cheapies. Including my two Gibby tributes.

I say F' that. Wouldn't be playing today if it wasn't for my LPjr and Rocksmith. You're already ahead of the game if you like it and it stays in tune. But I can see replacing gear if you like something else more.

That's the big thing; try to get'em at big discounts when buying new or go used (but that's trickier if you're just starting out). Makes it easier to unload anything that you don't connect with. Also makes it easier to get a bunch of different types of guitars;). Variety is the spice of life.

Right now, I'd only get rid of the vendetta. First couple of months learning were fine but couldn't get comfortable with the neck as time went on. At least it helped me learn what I prefer in a neck. Now it's just the guest guitar friends/family use.
And maybe do something about the Damien elite. Probably just my poor skills, but not sold on EMGs. Won't give up on it until I feel I gave it a fair chance, which may be a while with my skills

Yeah - it should be. I think to be on Groupon Goods, it has to come from the manufacturer, not a retailer. They've sold 1000+, so that's probably good.

Have to agree with you on EMGs. I am not convinced. They just don't have good tone. They're just loud. I'll take my fender humbuckers any day over them...

I like your Schecter collection, though... Maybe this weekend, I'll take a Fender family picture for the thread ;)

Not sure if it's the cable or my PC, but for some reason, if I leave it plugged in, exit RS, and start RS again, RS can't hear the guitar. I have to unplug it and then exit RS, start RS and plug in the cable to fix it. Just a weird issue not sure why it's that way.

Man, they make some good looking guitars. If I ever get the jones and HAVE to have a LP style axe, I'm definitely going to look at them... Unless, of course, it's around Christmas and rbarb4 is finding insane Gibson price match deals ;)

Right now, I hate you just a little bit. Or a lot. Probably a lot. Congrats!!! I'd have snagged that baby if it had been in one if my stores, too!

You wouldn't happen to have the best buy sku off the receipt, would you? May have to get them to check it at a store to see if it shows stock within 200 miles or so...

Congrats.
And if you can swing it, look at the 3000 series. Been a while since I did the comparison shopping, but seem to remember the improvements on the 3000 models were well worth the extra 100 you'd pay. But hey, maybe things have changed. Either way, "it's a nice choice"

That makes me want to cry if that's the one he got. I just love that color Daphne blue. Fenders to me just don't look right unless they are a simple solid color with a pick guard. That's what I love about them beauty in its simplicity.

Congradulations on your find. It may take some wheeling and dealing but I will have a fender one day.

Mine's an SSS. Never played the HSS. I'm sure at some point, I'll own one :)

I really do love my Fenders. I don't even look at other guitars now. I know I won't play them.
Not a big discount, but a discount none the less:

Sam Ash has the fender mustang I amp for $99.99. I've read many positive things about them. I picked one up through their amazon site so i could use amazon credit. http://www.amazon.com/Fender-Mustang-Electric-Guitar-Amplifier/dp/B0042EZH6W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=A102741HTMO4U3&qid=1357344188&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-1
Does anyone else have anything to say about this? I've got 100 bucks in MF certs to use by the end of january, and i'm looking to use that on an amp (skipped getting the amp originally because I decided I'd just use rocksmith at first).

Edit: looks like it's pretty much $110 everywhere, so it's not a huge discount, but I guess I could still use some input on what a good amp around the $100 range would be if anyone has any suggestions.

Everyone that I know that has one loves it. They're solid little amps. I bought one of the GDEC amps when they cut the prices to nothing on them and I like it a lot. It's not far from one of the Mustang amps. Good for practicing and a lot of fun to mess around with the sounds and see what you can coax out of them.

I was wondering has anyone broken 100,000,00 in scale runner?

I got the trophy and stayed away for a while since I thought I would mess up my high scores up. Gave it another try and with out to much effort added another 17 mill to my score. Not to 100 mill yet since harmonic minor and phrygian dominant are still giving me some trouble.

I don't ever play scale runner. I'm a country/southern rock guy, so I practice first position scales outside of the game instead. They're more useful to me for the stuff I play/write.

Looks like those Legacy guitars are getting pretty damn popular to be #1/#2 on the Amazon electric sellers list. They apparently put out a P-bass copy in December too...

I own one. Bought a white one a while back for $79.99. Was quite a bargain IMO. Finish was flawless, frets were flawless, and I love the highly polished neck. Just had to change the stock strings, as I would with any guitar. Stock strings couldn't be intonated.

Yeah, got as high as 160mil before the August patch wiped out my scores. Kinda went on a SR binge over the summer.

Know I had all scales over 14mil. Was working on getting them all to 14.5 but don't remember if I did that. And I think the max is 15mil; at least read that somewher on the webz

Actually thinking of erasing my profile+patches just to see if it fixes SR. But just wanna wrap up the last couple of cheevos for the original 1k. Not that I care about the cheevos, but rather I set that as a personal goal.

That's pretty freakn good. I don't play it much. I mainly use it as a gauge. Come back to it once every few weeks or so and see how much my score improves since the last time.

Helps keep me motivated since most of my practice is outside of rocksmith now. Ordered a few books to keep things fresh.

Has anyone tried the gibson learn and master program. Its expensive but considering how much I have spent ob guitars and the amount of time I put in it really isn't that much. I downloaded the free course books on their site to give me an idea of what it has to offer. Taking my time since if I am going to buy all those dvds don't want to already be threw part of the coursr before I get them.

Rocksmith (new version) deals are mostly done. But here are a couple that are still going:
Amazon sitll has the retail PC version @ $37.99

J&R music has the 360 & PS3 versions @ $59.99

Gamestop online has 360, PS3 and PC @ $59.99

And American Musical Supply has the 70s Tribute SG in silverburst @ $559

Nice alternate if you missed the SamAsh deal of 500

Same here. Rarely go into it since the borked saves issues. But when I do, it'll be for one or two scales and to see how well I do.

Consider it good if I hit 14mil. Of course, my gamer OCD kicks in whenever I don't hit it and keep at it for a few more runs

crazedracerguy

What was it that you didn't like about you prs se paul allender?

I think my deal fell through on getting an american standard. I am really loving my prs se 245 with its wide fat neck. Thinking of getting another se. Not sure about the wide thin neck or the 25" scale. I am not sure a 1/2 inch woul be enough difference. The main part I don't like about my 245 is the nut is tight and I don't have tools to widen it up to allow for 10/11 strings.

Its just really hard to decide when they have so many signature models in the se line.

I don't seem to be a fan of the Xtra Jumbo frets. Guess it's just not what I'm used to. No matter what I play, I seem to come back to the Strat. The last time I used the Viper (which has XJ frets, as well) it was just really uncomfortable. Both of those may find their way on to eBay soon.

Ok thanks for the input. Really like the specs se clint model. But he just had to put some goofy inlays on it. Would have been perfect without them. Maybe a custom 24 or that new 7 string.

Consider yourself blessed having found your perfect brand. Makes things easier I am sure. But trying new one is fun as a certain member with 7 guitars already knows.

Ahh, but I bought and sold a bunch to get to that point...

Epi LP II Special
Cort J Triggs model
Oscar Schmidt ES-335 clone
Epiphone acoustic/electric

There were a few more that I honestly just can't even remember.

Now it's 4 Fenders, a ESP LTD Viper 300, PRS Paul Allender SE, Ovation A/E, Washburn A/E and that's it. If I had any thoughts that the Pawn Shop Fender would go cheaper or I'd be able to find at least 1 more Fender from Best Buy, I'd get rid of the 2 non Fenders.

I may do that, anyway, once I get my jaguar case (so I have a shipping box for one of them)...

Well, well, well... the all and powerful UBI used a little "black magic" and granted our wish to bring back the song MEGA packs for this weeks edition of

Ugh, I want sooo many of these songs but don't want to bog down my song search. It's already slow enough as it it

There's also a Metal and Hard Rock Pack and the Classic Guitar Pack from earlier, I can't find them on xbox.com, but they appear in the in-game store. The Metal and Hard Rock pack has previous Avenged Sevenfold, Evanescence, Judas Priest, Lamb of God, Megadeth and Thred Days Grace songs included.

Not sure if you are still interested. But I have a price match for that pedal board I posted a ways back in tribal red for $43 if you want it. Its still good untill the 12 if you are not sure. I have not really messed with the pedals I have so a board can wait for me.

Blind Melon - No Rain

Also, I am new to the game, just started playing it last week. And I was wondering if someone can fill me in on events. They seem a little nebulous to me, so my questions might seem like they are all over the map. I have never changed an event so far, just played what they gave me, but I know we can change them. If I change an event to have a song that I already played in a previous event, will how I scored previously have an effect on how I score now (For example, I would like to play a song in an event that I did fairly well on, but know I can do better. However, I don't want to keep playing the same song in an event if it will artificially drive-up my RSP too much.) Is there any kind of bonus to RSP for playing a song in an event that you have never played in an event before? Does playing DLC in an event have any effect on RSP or is it identical to the original songs? Are there a fixed number of events? Is there any way to replay an event (like if I wanted to play the event at the Mouse Hole again). Sorry for the rambling questions, but I just haven't caught a full grasp on the events yet.

Don't know if you're new to guitar or just Rocksmith... At least for the first few events, I'd leave everything the same and just play through events. They throw certain things at you for a reason. You won't know it until FAR down the road... I just restarted my profile on the local machine (the one in the cloud is a level 10), and am having a great time going back through events. I increased my top score on Tom Petty "Good Enough" from 60,000 to 90,000 in one play through the other night. It's insane what you learn.

As far as scoring in events, if you swap out a song that has a higher requirement than the one that you put in (say you swap a song that you've played before out of an event for a song that you've never played and have a 0 score on), it wrecks (pretty much) your chances at a double encore and, therefore, unlocking one of the hidden songs in that event. That's really the only caveat. If you really hate a song, though, it's worth it to get rid of it. After playing for a year (release day), I've gotten to where I can at least stand every song in the game. All of them have something fun that you learn in them.

DLC doesn't count any different in events.

There are a fixed number of events. Once you play Pacific Garden, though, you just make your own events from then on, I believe. I haven't done that yet, since the songs that it picked for me are really hard ones and they're all at like 90,000 qualifying scores... I also am now looking for a band to play with, so I've been spending time on songs that I may actually play in a band setting or may do as tryouts for a band (Sweet Home Alabama, 3 Doors Down, Grace Potter, Boston, Nirvana, etc.) plus working outside the game on scales and other songs...

Thanks so much for the info!

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years, but have only focused on certain astpects of my playing, so I figure this game might help me broaden some of my techniques. I am up to the first event where you need drop tuning. Up to this point, I just qualified for the event after rehearsing each song once and then did the event. I did get a double encore a couple of times, and I do have gold medals on each technique I tried so far. But I know there are some songs that are way beyond my skill (I love Cowboys from Hell and Hangar 18, but I can only play some of the riffs in those songs, and if Cliffs of Dover does indeed come out...I've tried for years, but have never got that down) So I am hoping to have fun with the easier songs and see if I can get some tips on the harder songs to at least help me focus on my techniques.

Anyone happen to know when trading this in to Amazon whether or not they expect the cable to be included with your trade-in submission?

Anyone tried this ?

There have others who bought used and only got the disc, so Amazon may not care about the cable either

But you're gonna get a new cable if you buy the g&b version, so not much of a loss unless you wanted a backup
