Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Alright guys.

R U Mine is making me want to get Rocksmith 2014.

I am going to buy the best buy edition for 10 to get started.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to go to get a cheap guitar that works well with the game? or should I just buy the 2014 bundle?

I would prefer to buy the guitar separately and not spend 200 if I dont have to, but I have the money to spend, and if I can get a better guitar for around 130 and buy the game separately I would rather do that as well.

It looks like people have been saying to check the best buy clearance section? Any other suggestion are welcomed

Sams had the original guitar bundle for $50. I'm not sure of the quality. You could visit a few pawn shops w/ a person that knows the guitar. You can find some really great deals. If you are only purchasing a guitar for this game, don't spend more than $100.

$129 or $149 gets you a LP Special with P90s or an LP Special II - both of which, with 2 sets of pickups, would be nicer than the pack in guitar.

Dean Vendettas (which a lot of people here bought) are $99.

All the Best Buys are pretty much cleaned out at this point.

You can do far better than the pack in guitar, though, and not have to wait. If you go to Guitar Center, there are usually a few good used eals, too... You just have to ask around a bit.

Well damn we use Costco not Sams lol .

My mom had a guitar in her closet. Doesnt have strings but we can get them put on.

Its a squier II stratocaster by fender. would that be good enough to play the game with?

The only possible problem is we do not know if everything works correctly...Its in great shape though

it is a korean S model

String it up and try it out.

It would be a fine starter guitar.

If I were to buy a new one which one would you recommend out of the ones that were posted that are no more than like 100-130? also is there any advantage to either system ? I ordered an xbox version but if for any reason the ps3 version is better I'll get it

360 is better for RS1. PS3 had some freezing issues.

The XM vendetta or the LP would be fine. String that Squier up, though. No reason not to. A set of strings would be $5.

This guitar is 131 on the Best Buy website for clearance.... worth it? its the Schecter SGR

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/schecter-sgr-solo-6-6-string-full-size-electric-guitar-metallic-red/4693982.p?id=1218509072974&skuId=4693982

Actually look at this.... it has a dean electric guitar and a 10W amp for 115

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dean-6-string-full-size-electric-guitar-with-10w-amplifier-black/9445512.p?id=1218105500215&skuId=9445512&strId=114&strClr=true&ld=33.93933868408203&lg=-117.95587158203125&rd=25

There is also one of the rock band 3 squier guitars locally for 110 as well....

i guess what Im asking is, should I jump on that Dean MX deal or the squier rock band 3 deal or will the squier II stratocaster do me just as much justice and I can just get it stringed up.

This is the guitar my mom found in her closet:

Well... I'm a bit of a flipper, so my first piece of advice would be this:

If you use eBay (or your mom does, whatever)... The Rock Band Squier flips easily for about 3 times what you'll pay for it. That's a cheap, quick way to upgrade your price range to a better guitar VERY easily.

If you don't feel comfortable with that, I'd say stay away from the RB3 guitar. It's not very good quality for real playing and the neck just has a shitty feel - due to not being wood, but plastic (so they can embed the sensors underneath).

Honestly, out of those axes, I'd lean toward the Schecter. I think you'd find the Dean body style to be annoying after a short amount of time. The Schecter is more like an LP style, so it's be easier to handle and less annoying as time goes by.

Of course, the cheap ass in me says - go ahead and string that Squier up and try it out. What do you have to lose? As long as it outputs sound, you're golden. If it's a little ratty in feel, you'd know it was working, a local shop would probably set it up for you for $35 or something and you'd have a nice learning guitar.

Trust me, once you've put some time into Rocksmith, you'll want to upgrade your guitar. If you don't find guitar is for you, you're out very little. If you have ANY more than a passing interest, though, you WILL learn from Rocksmith. 100%, no doubt. I wish to hell I had Rocksmith about 30 years ago. I'd have been a friggin' virtuoso by now.

Well thanks for all your help man. I think im gonna take the squier into a shop tomorrow, see what they will charge to get it stringed up and what not.

I normally sell locally on craigslist, but I will think about flipping that Rock band guitar on ebay. Might be worth not using craigslist for once.

I honestly think taking this route is your best option. There is no need to pay any more than you need to. The gits made for beginners are usually junk. If you use the Squier now and want to upgrade later on, you won't be wasting money on a low quality instrument.

god damnit!

why must you tempt me even more to buy a new guitarrrr.

For those who were helping me earlier, do you suggest any of these? 60-70 bucks really is not a huge deal for me, but I know that it was mentioned the lower cost guitars are not the best

That schecter one is almost 200 dollars off :O

My bad ;)

But, hey you already got the best advice moving forward. I would string up that Squier and give it a shot, as in TODAY!!!

You're in a better starting postion than where I was, guitarless and clueless.

You're just clueless right now and messing around with the Squier will give you an idea of what you like and hate about the model. That's gonna go a looong way in helping you with your next guitar (yeah, you're gonna want another. It happens) :)

Didn't find much info on any of the three, but there is this thread on the SGR forums about the Schecter.

http://www.schecterforum.com/showthread.php/3865-I-found-a-New-Schecter-Riot-at-Guitar-Center-need-more-info

Got the impression that it's a 2011 model, so those guitars have probably been sitting around in the GC warehouses for a while.

EDIT: thinking about it some... IIRC those BC Rich guitars mighta been another GC exclusive & they were selling for 120 last year

END of EDIT

Of the 3, I'd lean towards the Schecter since I've had a good experience with their guitars (just never tried this particular model. think this was their early attempt at a budget line of guitars before they released the SGR line).

And since you hafta go in-store to buy any of the 3, try them ALL out. You might end up liking one of the other models more.

Have you guys had any luck with the store inventory checker for Guitar Center?  None of the stores within 100 miles show any of those models that are listed on the guitar sale.

I have a Vendetta XM that I picked up when I got the game 2 years ago and have been debating picking something different.

The Dean ML XM (w/ Amp) at Best Buy is tempting me at the moment as it is at a local store.

I'm thinking they deliberately set it up so you hafta go in-store. They'll tell you if they have it or if they can get it for you.

Sorta messed up way to run a sale, but this is GuitarCenter.

Guess it's OK as long as they sent out inventory to all stores.

No problem.

I ordered mine yesterday and it shipped today, will be here tomorrow or monday wont know for sure until the tracking goes live

Maybe already reported but I read the thread noting the BBuy $10 deal on SD.

Someone mentioned buying the 360 bundle for $4.91 at Sams on clearance.

I think the stores with any left are few and far between, but I did find one.

Great price for the original set and cable.

Regular edition of 2014 for me.

and hoping for one of those rare, right away used copies at GS...

$39.59 net with BDay coupon and PowerUp

Small chance, but I will be checking...

I'm not sure if you will find it. Gamestop did not take trades for the original version with or without the cable.

I'm just hoping it shows up as GoD on Tuesday like its supposed to. I'd really like 2014 digital. Otherwise, I'll head out to BB or Target in the AM.

May be worth trying to get that 30% off coupon at Target with the PacMan preorder...

I'm disappointed that the new game isn't listed in the leaked GS Black Friday ad. Would like to wait and get it on sale at some point.

I wonder if there will be any black friday deals for this.. I remember when the first Rocksmith came out I got the $80 bundle with the cable for $50. I'm really tempted to pick it up this week but will it be half price a month from now?

I paid full price day 1 for the first one. Unless I happen to luck on to a 30% off coupon at Target tomorrow (I'm gonna get the Pac Man figures for my kid), I'll do the same for this one.

Best Buy is giving $50 off the purchase of any guitar.  I'm really thinking about this as I was looking at a Schecter Solo 6, as it has dropped to $99.99 there.  Either that or I go hit Guitar Center to see what else they might have.

I've also been debating picking up a Bass (not that I ever really got good with a standard electric,) but because... why not?

Some songs are actually more fun on bass. And it will certainly build your finger strength up fast. I played bass for a few days in a row trying to unlock the bonus song. After that, going back to guitar, I couldn't believe how effortless it was to hold down the frets

Got an email from AMS that their weekly deal is for the Hofner Club CT guitar in Honeyburst, for $229.95

http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-HOF-HCTCS10-LIST

Don't see it on the site. So either they're updating everything or it sold out FAST.

Worth checking back all week in case it pops up again.

EDIT: Deal is dead. Tried checking thru the email link and it says that the sale is over due to "Overwhelming Demand"

Nice find!

For those wondering, it looks to be an online-only offer and good with the purchase of the Game+Cable edition of RS2014 ($80 version).

Here's the list of eligible guitars:

EDIT: use link right above ^ to get to the eligible guitars.

Any link I post for the guitars seems to dead-end.

Best bang-for-your-buck, dealwise has gotta be the Schecter C1 Blood Moon. It's already down to $237, which is killer on it's own.

Remember hunting that for a while but it never got below 400, IIRC

Last Chance on the DLC sale!

Cleaned up the OP some. But it still looks like a mess

Basically tracking deals on 4 versions: original, double-dip, RS2014 with cable and RS2014 NO cable

Damnit. Now that you mention the Blood Moon, I'm thinking about that....
Yeah, it's tempting alright. But just realized that Guitar Center's sale is s'pose to have a Hellraiser for $270, just no extra deal like BB's promo.

So for someone who has never played guitar in their life, is this a good game to learn from?
Late response, but without a doubt yes. I was teaching someone guitar over the summer but they went back to school. I know they have a PS3 so I sent her the $10 best buy bundle and told her to get it. I am skilled with the guitar but no virtuoso and this game really got me to challenge myself. I started using my pinky and really understood the fretboard.

Get it! It's cheap right now! And you can rock out!

Awesome. Any ideas on what the songs will be and what time they will be released?
Albert King – The Sky is Crying
Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4
The Hives – Hate to Say I Told You So
The Lumineers – Ho Hey
Queens of the Stone Age – My God is the Sun
Them Crooked Vultures – Mind Eraser, No Chaser

I'm not sure of the rest. i think I got this list from crazedracerguy

Thanks. Will definitely be picking up The Hives. I hope we see more songs by Arctic Monkeys and Oasis

Is the 2014 edition just an improved version of the first?  Does the old game have any features that are missing from the new one?  I just bought the old game and am able to return it for the new one if there isn't a reason to keep it.

You're gonna want to keep it, especially if you got it for $10.

Here's an excerpt from the RS website: http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-US/returning-players/index.aspx

"What about the music you already have? We’re excited to announce that Rocksmith 2014 Edition is backwards compatible with our existing library! All your previously purchased DLC songs and most of your on-disc songs from Rocksmith have been updated with the new techniques to be compatible with Rocksmith 2014 and more accurate to their original recordings than ever before."

RS2014 is a BIG improvement over the original. This vid highlights some of the biggest changes

I haven't played the new version yet, but I'm very excited for it given the improvements I've heard about. The way I understand it pretty much every aspect of the game has been overhauled for a better experience. The interface is supposed to be much smoother and easier to use. There are new and/or improved mini games. Bass is included (don't know if you got an original or guitar & bass version). Kinect is supported in the new version and actually sounds very useful. There is a new mode called Session Mode, which puts together a dynamic backing track in real time as you jam. That's worth checking out the videos for.
Oh, and the new version will obviously have a new track list.

But I say don't return the old version. Use it to import the old songs into the new version. Not quite sure how it's done yet since I don't have the new version, but it's been confirmed that this will be possible. There were 57 songs I think on the original version including the bonus unlockable songs. Normal price for dlc songs is $3 ea a la cart or $2 ea in bundles. If you look at it that way, keeping the old version is like getting over $100 worth of dlc for the new version.

Well 12:30 pacific and still no new DLC sale.

Gonna be a grumpy launch day if they don't put those last songs up for sale :bomb:
