Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Wasn't it about that price on the Xbox marketplace recently? I already have it on ps3 but I want the Xbox verison now

sweet the no cable version is only $14 at gamestop I got that last copy that they used for display now I can use bing rewards to get dlc

Late notice, but today only groupon has a promo code for half off, up to $40 max discount. Among various other video game deals that could be had, I noticed you can get a Dunlop Cry Baby wah-wah for $40 plus tax, free shipping. Coupon code is oneday50. There are a couple of other pedals on there but this one seemed to be the best deal.

If anyone's looking for a cheap second guitar, Guitar Center has the Rogue Rocketeer for $70 new: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Rogue/Rocketeer-Deluxe-Electric-guitar.gc

Obviously a cheap guitar, but much better than I expected for the price.  I bought it last month to keep in E standard while I downtune my Dean Vendetta.  The only real issues I've had are 1. the original strings sucked (so factor in $5 for new ones) and 2. there's some fret buzzing, maybe because the action is pretty low, but I'm not noticing it as much now after replacing the strings and playing a while.

And I'll always put a vote in for the Monoprice cheap-o's too. $20 off $100 right now at Monoprice. I broke down and bought an acoustic to add to my Monoprice Strat knockoff. Between that and my Epiphone Special II, I ADORE the Monoprice, and don't really have fun playing the Les Paul. I'm a total beginner, so give it whatever weight it deserves, but in a last ditch effort to want to keep the LP, I'm having a friend set it up for me, because out of the box it just doesn't...fit. Action seems high, don't like the strings, tone is alright. Maybe I'm just more of a strat guy.

Yikes!  Long drought between deals.  Well, this might help...

Monoprice has a current sale for various things.  Guitars and amps being some of those things

California Classic (their strat models) starting at $69.99

http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=115&cp_id=11501&cs_id=1150101&p_id=610102&seq=1&format=2

Route 66 (their les paul models) starting at $99.99

http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=115&cp_id=11501&cs_id=1150101&p_id=610213&seq=1&format=2

40 watt, Combo Amp with spring reverb at $69.99

http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=115&cp_id=11501&cs_id=1150102&p_id=611800&seq=1&format=2

And this amp let's you crank it to ELEVEN!!!!! LOL

Also, hope some of you got in on CouchStrap's annual sale.

I forgot and missed it by a week... smh.

Might hafta NOT be such a cheapass and just buy at their reg. price.  My bass is screaming for that lumberjack strap

Bought the 2 straps with the strap-loks on them during the sale. I freaking love these straps. It takes a tremendous amount of willpower not to order about 10 more...

Wal-Mart has the PS4 and XB1 versions of Rocksmith 2014 with cable for $20 on national clearance. May be worth the pickup of you need an extra cable. The sealed PS4 games go for about $25 on eBay, so it makes a really cheap cable...

More Satriani this week in a variety pack...

And quick hit on a guitar deal at Musician's Friend.  It's part of their warehouse sale.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/warehouse-sale?icid=210497

Squier bullet HSS in Aztec Gold for $100

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/squier-bullet-with-tremolo-hss

IIRC, Fender had a special run of Aztec Gold gear about 2 years ago.  Guessing this is the last of it out there. So if you like the gold, get it now.

Guitar case in Tweed for $60

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-deluxe-electric-guitar-case

Still prefer the tweed over the black case since it has a better build design/quality and it just looks cooler

You know, I'm thinking about grabbing the PS4 version.

Anyone know how it compares to the X1 version?

I remember the PS3 version being worse than the 360. And for whatever reason the X1 version never ran as smooth as the 360 version.

Those are some very nice deals on guitars and the game.

To any lurkers reading: go for it now.

You can now buy a cheap-but-usable guitar and everything you need to learn it for $100.  Maybe $120 if your mileage varies on the Wal-Mart deal.  Guitar + game with cable + $5-10 worth of picks, and you're set.

I say this because when I heard about the original Rocksmith years ago, I thought it sounded like a really cool idea, but a bunch of false assumptions kept me from ever researching it.  I assumed a guitar worth playing would be upwards of a few hundred and that anything else would have some glaring issues-- nope.  I assumed Rocksmith was geared toward people who had at least a little familiarity with the instrument-- nope, it assumes you've never touched a guitar before.  I assumed "tuning" an instrument was some delicate skill that required excellent hearing-- nope, electronic tuners do the hard work for you, and Rocksmith has one built-in.  I assumed it'd take years to start to develop any sort of proficiency whatsoever-- nope, most songs that you enjoy listening to are probably in the easy or intermediate range and can start to be played after a few months (exception if you're a metalhead).  I assumed electric guitar was much harder than acoustic-- nope, probably easier.  And on and on and on...

One of my friends has a 9 year old son that is on the autism spectrum. He had always wanted to learn to play guitar. I suggested Rocksmith to his mom. He has had it since Christmas with a Les Paul Jr from Amazon and some picks and a strap and straploks I gave him. He is starting to get scores in the 80% range on some of the beginner oriented songs. He LOVES it. Music is so good for anyone. It's NEVER too late to learn to play guitar.

I've been writing songs for a long time and the time on Rocksmith helped make me a far better songwriter. I'm now in the process of having songs reviewed in Nashville and pitching them to publishers in Nashville. The sky is the limit once you have a guitar in your hand.

Rocksmith 2014 for :ps4:  is $14.99 on the PSN store (digital only, obviously); as noted in FriskyTanuki's PSN thread

https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/357318-psn-weekly-deals-83-atlusbethesdasegaubisoft-sales-1-the-fall-20-r6-siege-5-vc2-augusts-ps-games/

Sale ends 08/09/16.

Good price if you're looking to upgrade to the PS4 or just go digital.  But hunt down the Walmart deal if you still need the cable.

Saw this deal over on slickdeals.  Sort of a repeat, only it's being sold thru Newegg instead of on Adorama's site.

Wal-Mart has the PS4 and XB1 versions of Rocksmith 2014 with cable for $20 on national clearance. May be worth the pickup of you need an extra cable. The sealed PS4 games go for about $25 on eBay, so it makes a really cheap cable...
Thanks for the tip! I was able to find a store with 2 PS4 copies for $3 each. I think it's best for me to sell the discs and buy it on Steam. As much as I would love to upgrade my PS3, I don't see it happening soon.

Quick question...

I have been sitting on a unopened copy of Rocksmith for PS3 that I picked up cheap from wal-mart like a year or so ago. Looking at the 14.99 price on the PSNetwork for the newer one has me tempted to buy it and get into this game now I have some more time. My question is this, would the PS3 guitar cable I have work with the PS4 digital copy?

Thanks in advance.

My local Walmart sux so hard.  They had 1 copy of the original RS for PC, no price on it, but sitting on the clearance shelf.  I asked for a price check and still said $59.96!  I tried to explain how & why that was nuts and all I got back from the single digit IQ clerk was "Huh" & "Wow".  Obviously wasn't able to form complete sentences or follow a chain of logic.  Oh well, to be expected I guess.

LOL... Yeah - the X1 and Ps4 versions are $20, but the PS3 and PC are still 59.96... I don't know, man...

On another note, it looks like they're announcing Rocksmith Remastered today on the Twotch stream. It's just 2014 without the year on there, it looks like. 6 bonus songs, though, including a Bob Marley song and an Elvis Presley song, so that's cool...

 I get the remaster bit.

Retailers don't want to stock something with 2014 on it.  Instantly seems outdated.

I just hope the remaster is more than a repackage with extra songs.

I personally would want, at the very least, a speedier UI.  But REALLY would want the Journey mode back, including venues & the OG arcade games too.

And they should just package as much of the OG playlist in with 2014's playlist.  Wishfull dreams...

Tonight I booted up Rocksmith and decided to play a bit before bed. I haven't played it in months. I honestly spend so much time writing and recording songs and sending them to Nashville for review or pitch to publisher stuff or recording a song a month for my NSAI meeting that I don't play much for fun anymore. I'm going to for as while, though. I need to get back to that. It makes me more creative when I don't spend all my guitar time creating, if that makes sense.

I haven't bought any guitars since the Taylor. I did buy a new mic (a Blue Spark mic) with my GC Bucks form buying the Taylor. Good thing, since my other mic (a cheap MXL 900) crapped out on me for good.

I'm pumped for the remastered version.  They hit over half of the things I was hoping a sequel would bring, and giving it to us for free is pretty awesome.  The Riff Repeater changes in particular should be extremely useful, as long as what they mean is what everyone's been requesting for so long (loop from X second to Y second instead of only having whole-phrase increments).  That and the ability to disable Dynamic Difficulty.. it always annoys me when I'm working on a song at full difficulty and it drops a few phrases down after a play.. "sure I didn't play it perfectly, but that's exactly why I'm playing it in Learn A Song, Rocksmith!"  :whee:

The only thing I was disappointed about is that they aren't updating the Guitarcade games to reduce that dreadful wait when replaying a game.  That's absolutely #1 on my list of things I wish they would improve.

In the unlikely event that your local GameStop still has copies of the original Rocksmith, they are clearanced down to $3 on PS3, $9 for guitar+bass on xb 360, and $12 guitar+bass on PS3. If you can find it you get a cheap cable and the option to buy the import pack for 2014

And there's not much else.

MusiciansFriend had those new Squier Candy strats for $170, but the site is only showing $230 now.   Google and you can find the cached sale price.  If you like them, guess you could try calling to get them to honor it.

Other than that, here's Gibson's 2017 lineup

That Firebird Zero is the new interesting/wtf creation...  $500 for a new, Made in the USA Gibson

Watch'em jack the price up after a few months, just like they did with those 2014 Melody Makers, lol.

Pics or it didn't happen. ;)
Here we go:

Also pictured is the blue MIM Stratocaster I just bought. :) Wasn't planning to buy another guitar right away since I just picked up the Les Paul Special II, but I'd been on the lookout for a long time for a blue used MIM Strat with white pickguard and maple fretboard (pretty specific combo), so when one finally popped up on Craigslist, I was pretty excited. Might have to block the tremelo and install a humbucker, but otherwise I think this one will tide me over for a few years.

On the far left is my Rocketeer with frankenstein strings - a mix of two brands because I messed up while installing the green and purple strings. :whistle2: whoops

So Amazon has the Remastered edition up for pre-order, with Prime it's $47.99. I already have a guitar (played a few years now, but I'm nothing special), and always wanted to give this game a try; i was wondering if anyone thinks I should bite or hold off for cheaper?

My understanding is that it's a free upgrade for the other game. I love the game, but definitely just get the cheapest version you can find. I've seen it for as low as 20 multiple times in the last year (including once at BBY which made it $16). I'm sure it'll dip again...

If you can find a copy at Wal Mart, it's $20. Otherwise, it's VERY worth it to have this game of you want to improve your guitar skills. It's a blast.

I was playing the first Rocksmith last night on my PS3 since I missed the $28 deal on Amazon and wanted to just fool around with my guitar. Man the loading/saving is such a mess. From what I played of 2014 they really revamped the whole UI and how the game saves and what not...which makes missing that deal hurt even more :wall:

So these ARE coming to the U.S. this year, anywhere from mid November to Late December. Various sites are showing pre-order pages, but they're coming in and out of availability.

My convo with a Sweetwater rep revealed that they have already sold half their expected stock. Guess they might be popular after all???

Like I said, sites have'em for preorder; you get a cert of authenticity & gigbag with the purchase.

Bonamassa's website/store also has them up and he has a package deal that comes with a case (custom JB graphic) instead of the gigbag, for about $100 more. Shipping kills it though. Plenty of other shops that give free shipping and would have easier return policies.

Anyway, have at'em... or not... it's your $$$
