Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

Any of the $99 ish Epiphone Les Paul or Squire Strats will do a serviceable job for a first timer. Make sure you have a strap and picks to start.

The game will recognize both just fine. If you are a full sized adult you may have trouble playing on a 3/4 size guitar though. I helped a friend’s kid get a 3/4 strat when he was about 8 years old and it was just about perfect at the time. I’ve played on it a bit and it’s servicable but not the best experience. And I’m not really a big guy at only 5’9”. The kid is now almost 11 and already clamoring to get a full size.

A 7/8 on the other hand, should be just fine. I’ve got a 7/8 Explorer and if I didn’t have a full size Explorer to compare it to, I don’t think I would have ever known the difference

The Deans recommended way back when this thread first started are still solid choices too; Dean Vendetta (xmt or xm).

Biggest issue may be finding them for $100, let alone sub-100.

You might encounter problems with intonation... moreso with the 3/4. I'd try finding reviews on the model you're thinking of buying. See if people complain much about it.

The game doesn't know if you're using a 3/4, 7/8 or full-scale guitar. All it looks for is the correct note and that's where tuning & intonation will matter most.

That's because you're working from "fender scale". Hopping down from the strat must make the Jag feel like a toy

For those of you close enough to a Guitar Center to warrant it, the String Club thing works great. I've actually been better about restringing my axes because I get a new set of strings every month. I've just been picking up sets that are close to the $5 - usually Fender Super Bullets. I'm not much of a string snob - except the Elixirs I bought for my Taylor acoustic. Also picked up an Ernie Ball Power Peg and it made restringing MUCH quicker.

I've been playing the last couple of nights and had really forgotten how fun it is to play. Maybe it'll spur my writing again. I had been in a bit of a rut since Tom Petty died. Too sad to write...

Get it and just walk around everywhere with it. Tie a simple string to it, strap it to your back and be known as the violin dude. Then when people hear about violin dude, they're gonna go see what's up.

It was $120 a couple of hours ago but I got the same result you did when you tried to add it to your cart. I tried re-adding it a couple of times, hoping for a miracle, but it didn't work. None were in stock at stores near me either.

FYI, simple way to remove the stress on your RS cable is to use a 1/4" mono coupler and regular instrument cable with the RS cable. Instrument cables are way easier and cheaper to replace than the RS cable.

I was wondering why they disappeared so quickly. I have been stalking the clearance page for the past week. I saw the guitar pop up at 12:08 CT. I placed an order and started having issues seeing it in stock around 12:20 CT. Having it posted here would explain why.

Did anyone's order go through the last time around?

Any opinion on the Mitchell TD400? If the order for the Hofner doesn't go through, ~$175 for the TD400 may be a possibility.

Nah, there's something screwy about the deal for it to disappear so quickly... again.

Beginning to think they are selling display models from their b&m sites;  they just post them as they get shipped back to corporate. And since there's such little inventory at the 120 price, they sell out super quick.

It's the only thing that makes sense to me, considering they have inventory to sell... @ $400

Your order might have been the only one in stock. 

If anyone did get it, post about the condition. 

Would still be a good deal, unless it arrives completely trashed.  IF it is call and get replacements.  Just because it's clearance, doesn't mean they should be used/abused (they sure weren't advertised that way).

Yeah, the 6-string with the violin body was a surprise to me too.

I know they've made the "beatle bass" forever, but don't know about these.

Maybe they had some leftover inventory and pulled their best Dr. Frankenstrat.  Or this is a marketing gimmick to play off the popularity of the beatle bass.

Finally some lefty love! Been eyeing the Gibson LP Studio for some time now ($749 now). Surprised to see these 2013 models still around. Figured the last new inventory around 6 months ago would’ve been the last of them. My local Sam Ash carries 0 lefties in stock. I’d love to be able to just hold it...mmhmm.

Even Chicago Music got a new batch of ES guitars, mostly 2017 models. Best of that bunch were a Goldtop 335 (with the dark back), a Pelham Blue 335 and a White 355. Don't think they're even gonna bother posting them to the website considering how quick they are selling.

I seem to have a special talent for choosing the less desirable colors/models :lol: . Those treasure Firebirds got announced and I knew the gold one was for me (single pup FB that reminded me a bit of the Elliot Easton Tikibird). But the sunburst sold out first. Now that I've had it for a while I kinda want a sunburst one just to drop a P90 into it. The resale pricing is stupid though

Greetings, I'm interested to play this game, and I have a friend that is selling the 2 Epiphone Les Paul Juniors that came with Rocksmith (the black one and the black/orange, sunburst if im not mistaken), but as far as I know these guitar that came in these bundles were right handed. My main question and concern is can I flip the strings so it can be left handed or it's already designed to only be right handed?

Technically I guess you could flip the strings, but if you’re going to do that you should really be flipping the nut around too because there are notches in the nut that are sized for the strings in order. It’s not unheard of to do, but I wouldn’t suggest bothering with it on a budget guitar like that. You’d be better off just getting a lefty guitar (unless he’s just selling them crazy cheap, in which case go ahead and buy them and just look up some instructional videos on YouTube on how to swap your nut). Keep in mind that flipping the guitar is also going to put your switches and knobs in the wrong places.

It's doable but probably not worth it.

Might be easier to try learning to play it as a righty instead of flipping it around.  If you haven't done it yet, try playing it as a righty and see if you feel good with it.  If not, then focus on getting a lefty guitar.

Here's what you're facing:

-leave the guitar as-is and just flip it

Doing this means the strings will be in the opposite order to what Rocksmith will display, control knobs are in the wrong place and No cutaway to reach the higher frets on the guitar.

-pay to have the guitar set-up for a lefty

Spending more than what the guitar is worth (most likely).  Control knobs are still in the wrong place and No cutaway for the higher frets

-buy a lefty guitar

May be more than what you'd want to spend but it'll be a better experience... that is, unless you think you could get comfortable playing a righty guitar.

These may not be high-end models, but they tend to get solid reviews and aren't too pricey.  Quality of these would be about the same as those Epi les paul jr's:
