RPG Thread IX is a steaming pile of pointless monologue. Just Youtube the ending!

All the important stuff carries over; quest completion, items, weapons, level. Haven't played the game in a while so I'm not sure if there is anything else that does or that you would care about carrying over.

I only played 15 minutes of EO 1 before I called bullshit and gave it back to my friend...

Haven't started it. Been wanting to finish Strange Journey before starting it, and I haven't finished Strange Journey after almost a year =P

lol... EO 1&2 are actually really easy once you figure it out. A little like Demon's Souls. At the beginning of EO1, you just need to run back to town every time you need to rest till you're a little higher, like level 5ish. Then you can properly explore.

I don't know about really easy, but this tactic does make EO less painful. Just take things slowly at the beginning and the rest should go a bit smoother.

(Haven't played EO3 yet, but I assume it has the same difficulty as its predecessors.)

Yeah, I gave up somewhere around the 10th-15th floor of EO2. Loved the game and all that it entailed but I just never seemed to have the right build for my party. I'd go explore and then end using all the gold from that exploration on healing/revival. It just made an endless circle of explore, spend gold to heal/revive, go explore more. Without saving enough to buy the next higher quality weapons/armor.

Thanks, one more question, is getting the last ending worth the effort of 3 playthroughs? Or maybe I can do as the thread title suggests and youtube the ending.

I'll do you one better and claim that XII is the best Japanese RPG yet made. ;)

Rodimus, most people say get ending A & B and YouTube C&D. If you have not done some of the quest to get the extra weapons during the first and second go round ending C&D could be a pain.
I'm tossing around starting FFXII or Star Ocea: TLH. Not sure if Il'l commit and do it but considering.
Star Ocean: TLH International version. The Japanese anime art makes the game a little better IMO, but the game is still awesome nonetheless.

How did you enjoy the other SO games? I've got SOTLH in my 360 backlog (no PS3 version) but I'm dreading it because I've disliked all the previous ones (didn't know that before I bought it on sale, lol)

I liked XII in the beginning, and the longer I played, the less I liked it. I got close to the end and wondered "why am I still playing this garbage?" It's the most time I've put into an RPG that I have no intention of beating.

I liked FFXII more than most people did (it certainly has plenty of detractors), but I seriously hope you're joking here because that's preposterous. ;)

Nope, not joking at all. In my opinion it's the best JRPG ever. I realize that's a minority view though.
I couldn't stand XII. The dialogue was a mess and the battles were extremely boring. It's better than XIII though, I hate that game.
Those are like, my two favorite games
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/21/chaos_rings_trailer/

So Chaos Ring sold 400,000 copies, but Chaos Omega is just reusing stuff from the first game with different characters. Nice to see Square Enix runs another franchise into the ground.
How the hell is it considered a franchise when there has only been one game? Its not like with the Kingdom Hearts series where they just keep on making spinoffs to it without making a real sequel.

There 2 games already out with a third game. My problem is them reusing asset from the first game and making minor improvement

Hey everyone likes different things. I love Radiata Stories (it's one of my favorite games of all time) and a lot of people hate it.

I loved that game! Interesting characters, decent combat and nice visuals.

I'm a big Star Ocean fan loving every single one, so oh course I loved The Last Hope.

I even enjoyed its demo, but I just found the characters boring, didn't like its battles much (although I enjoyed a similar type for .Hack and WKC), and the story just wasn't interesting. While I like the medieval setting, it just felt boring.

FFXIII on the other hand was the best main FF game I played since X. While I will admit it didn't have the deepest story I ever saw in a FF game, its battles were refreshing, crystarium(sp) system was great, had one of the best cast I've seen in a JRPG all my life, and oh course I enjoyed the graphics and music.

That's not really saying a lot, since if you're not counting XI, there weren't any other main series FF games since X other than the one you just said you hated. ;)

Doh! I hated 1 and 3 so much I couldn't even get to the half way point, but I remember liking 2 back on the PS1 (although I did get distracted partway through disc 2 and never finished it)

That reminds me, I'm at the end game of Star Ocean 1st Departure. Pretty boring game but I might as well finish it one of these days.

I didnt care much for FFXII, never beat it. I was lost in the story, and often didnt know what was going on.

This is pretty much my experience with FFXII in a nutshell.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying FFTA2; it's just the game I needed at the moment. Squeenix should really just stick to SRPGs for games set in Ivalice.

I'm thinking about giving it a second try. I didn't like FFTA2 when I played it after release, though I loved FFTA and liked FFT. I think part of the reason I didn't like it is cause I loved Jugglers, and they got nerfed. It's not like I abused Assassins either in FFTA like many people.

Anyone else have a problem with Lunar freezing near the end? I'm trying to use Dragon's Lament on some of the more powerful enemies and it just freezes in the middle of the animation.

i actually felt the opposite of 12. the beginning was boring, but as the end approached i'm like "hey, things actually make sense now, let's finish this."

i think the most annoying part for me was giruvegan, that part took forever...
Anyone else have a problem with Lunar freezing near the end? I'm trying to use Dragon's Lament on some of the more powerful enemies and it just freezes in the middle of the animation.
Nope no issues.

Another gripe I have with Final Fantasy X-XIII is the lack of a world map. X, XII and XIII don't seem fantastic at all for me without hidden towns and areas to uncover. That's just one of my gripes though.

I miss the traditional overworld map. This is one thing the Tales series does well. Blue Dragon also did a good job. I love hidden towns and items. And there's always that one remote island with a secret enemy that gives out a ton of EXP.
Nope no issues.
Thanks. I'll go back tonight and see if I can get past that part without using the spell.

My favorite traditional-style overworld is the one in Skies of Arcadia. Not only is the world itself interesting, but I also love how the music changes depending on which area you're in.

Also, agreed with Rodimus in that Tales games generally have great overworlds.

Watch what you say about Balthier!

I want Tales of Grace now.... and maybe ToV PS3. (>_>)

Skies of Arcadia was a pretty good game. my only real compliant is how insane the encounter rate could become sometimes..
Watch what you say about Balthier!
I wouldn't listen to him. He thinks Hope is a great character

Hope wasn't that bad. He could've been a whole lot worse but he actually shows some growth during XIII.

Would you guys really be super macho if your mother got killed?

@Chibi Are you talking about the DC or GC version of Arcadia? I heard the GC version had a much lower encounter rate. I didn't really think it was too bad during my playthrough on the Cube. Well, except for Collette yelling "Angel Wings" every five seconds.

I'd certainly be angry about it. But that doesn't change the fact he is fact I think he's annoying as hell(And the reason I put the game down).

Never played the DC version of SoA. For the most part the encounter rate of SoA Legends was fine. But there were times when it became crazy.

Hope goes through quite a bit of growth, it's the "I'm going to commit homicide" phase he goes through that's mind bogglingly insane.

It was annoying, but putting the game down because of it? Geez..

I thought Hope fit in the context of the story. He was in a happy stable family until all hell broke loose. Next thing you know, his mom is a rebel and his dad is gone. Then, mom gets got and he's left with nothing. He's whiny but he has reason to be that way. The best part is that he actually stops whining halfway through the game.

To be honest, Fang and Vanille's storyline had me perplexed at the end.
It was annoying, but putting the game down because of it? Geez..
Nothing really stood out about the game or any of the other characters(Outside of Lightning and Fang's looks). So there wasn't really much to keep me playing the game. So Hope was pretty much the final nail in the coffin.

I thought Snow was interesting because he was in way over his head. He was the Balthier type character but he was just as lost as anyone else in the game. He was in charge of a rebel group but they weren't really ready for what happened during the storyline.

Snow and Hope by themselves were probably the weakest, but they did a very good job of helping develop Light.

And Snow was pretty hilarious IMO, I really enjoyed the character, even if he was kind of lame. I feel like something was missing for him, like maybe in those scenes they said they took out of the game :bomb:

Couldn't stand Snow's design and dialogue. He also looked like a moron going around fighting these monsters with just his fists.Reminded me of a more annoying version Zell
