Are the B button abilities totally random, or is there anything you can do to prompt them to come up? Rue's instakill ability is a beast.

It's been awhile since I played it so can't tell you 100%. Most of the abilities are linked to the Chain Breaks though from what I remember.

I'd like to go back to Grandia at some point because it was a great game, but I remember the first time I played it I got to some dungeon that I got lost in. I think it was about 1/2 way through the game.

I'd probably play it on the triple, although DLing on the PSP would be nice too.
Make sure to armor break him with Argo it will make it go a lot faster. You'll also want to make sure you are healed when you hit below 70% health, and any items to help reduce kan cost on Celes are a good idea.
Armor Break made all the difference. After that it was trivial. I only needed to use one healing item at the very beginning of the fight after the boss' initial volley of hits; after that Argo achieved an armor break after his first combo and it was all over.
Just got the $100 off coupon from GS for PS3 and am considering buying it. My only hold up is whether there are any good RPG's on it. Any help?
I guess it depends on what specific variety you're looking for and whether you already own a 360, but I greatly enjoyed the following:

Fallout 3
Final Fantasy XIII
Demon's Souls (action/RPG)
3D Dot Game Heroes (action/RPG)
Valkyria Chronicles (strategy/RPG)

The last 3 are PS3-exclusive and all of the above can be easily found for less than $20

victory!

I'm in grind mode on Crimson Gem Saga. I'm at the 2nd dungeon and I can handle everything fine in the fields before it, but it seems that everything inside of the dungeon can poison my people. I can still kill it, but it takes a serious toll on my health and mana potions. I headed back out and ground away for a couple of hours, but it still seems like it isn't enough. On the bright side, I'm unlocking a ton of skills and building up a nice bank roll.

Grats Ryuu. I really enjoyed MC2. I plan on playing through it again at some point, but I have a lot of other RPGs in my backlog that I'm trying to get through. Plus, I got suckered back into WoW by a RL friend. I'm playing it VERY casually though. The guild is just me, him, his wife, and his daughter. Plus it is on a different server than I played on before, so I don't know enough people to be tempted to raid.

Getting further on in Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky (30 hours), and am at the part where
you enter the tournament with Zane the beefcake guy
and I'm finding the monsters challenging, and actually give you decent amounts of xp and crystals. If only they did that throughout the rest of the game...
Still trucking away with Grandia. About 70 hours in. Most people would've beaten it in that amount of time. I'm way over leveled
I remember beating back in the day at about level 80 and by the end was very tired of it
Does Ogre Battle 64 pick up eventually? I remember really liking it back on the 64, but I remember it being really slow and waiting forever for troops to march across the maps. Prolly just didn't know what I was doing as I bought it used so it didn't have a manual.
NAMCO BANDAI GAMES BRINGING TALES OF THE ABYSS® AND TALES OF GRACES™ F TO NORTH AMERICA
Iconic Role-Playing Series Coming to PlayStation®3 System and Nintendo 3DS™ System With Incredible Anime-Inspired Graphics and Innovative Dynamic Battle System

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (May 11, 2011) – Leading video game publisher and developer, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., today announced its acclaimed role-playing titles Tales of Graces™ f for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Tales of the Abyss® for the Nintendo 3DS™ system will be released in North America. Tales of Graces f and Tales of the Abyss will both offer brilliant graphics, a dynamic real-time battle system, and deep, captivating stories filled with exciting quests and hidden secrets.

Tales of Graces f is the latest title in the renowned Tales series and the first North American appearance of the franchise on PlayStation®3 system. Set amidst the conflict of three kingdoms competing for planetary dominance, the story follows Asbel Lhant and his friends as they come to discover in time just how far they will go to protect the bonds between them.

For the first time in the Tales series, the combat system lets the player freely change attack style depending on the battle situation. The characters’ distinctive weapons can be swapped for different styles, and the new combat system is easier to control while simultaneously adding new levels of tactical depth. The title is developed by NAMCO TALES STUDIO LTD. in Japan with the aim of bringing to life the rich depth of the evocative characters created by Mutsumi Inomata.

Tales of the Abyss, the critically-acclaimed PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system role playing game, is updated for the Nintendo 3DS system. The upcoming title delivers full 3D support and use of the dual screens to bring players closer to the action. Tales of the Abyss tells the story of Luke fon Fabre, sole heir to a family of aristocrats, as he is suddenly thrust into the outside world on an epic adventure. Naïve and spoiled by years of isolation, Luke struggles to learn of friendship, sacrifice, duty and of choice. With the fates of many in his hands, Luke's actions could ultimately save the world or bring about its very destruction.

Tales of Graces f will be available in 2012 and Tales of the Abyss will be available later this year for North America.

Graces F in 2012, Abyss this year

Great, so we Xbots who played Vesperia and want more are left twisting in the wind. Awesome!

Ah well, I guess since Vesperia PS3 didn't make it out of Japan, it's now our turn to get screwed.

Level 80 or Hour 80? I'm pretty much at the end game and Justin is at level 35, and I'm a bit over leveled. If you were at level 80 I couldn't imagine the grind that took. Then again it doesn't really matter your level rather than leveling your magic and weapon skills.

Just starting up Final Fantasy XII and I have a feeling I am in for quite a lengthy game. It's actually quite good so far, far from what I would have expected even.

It's longer than most. I'd say you're looking at least 60 hours for the main story and a reasonable amount of sidequests.

Why you need a PS3!

How is Magna Carta coming Ryu? I saw last night you had gone from like 400 points to 880 in a couple days achievement wise.

I'm finishing up my last 5-6 quests before heading to the final dungeon. Those Style Master achievements are ridiculous; I waited until I had enough for everybody to max either of their styles, then did the reload trick to get all 12 achievements (30 points each) in one swoop. Combined with some other random MC2 cheevs and 6 achievements from playing Portal 2 co-op, I gained 665 gamerscore in one night, my highest single-day haul ever.

My wife and kids were out of town for a few days, so I was able to play nonstop for like four evenings straight. They're back now, so I'll be back to a normal pace. :) Magna Carta isn't that long of a game though, I'm sitting at ~27 hours right now, probably finish at 30 or 31 depending on the length of the final dungeon.

Yeah that is what I did for the style master. Game is a lot easier now with all the abilities you'll notice.

Final dungeon is pretty long. I think I beat the game at 33 or 34 hours. So you'll be a couple less then that.

my last save was 117 hours, i had all espers, level 90's, every characters license board completely unlocked, and a good amount of hunts done. but i also did the Negulmar trick which added about 20 or so hours. made earlier leveling easier, but once you hit in the 50's or 60's its a waste of time.

I wish that I would have done that for my playthrough. I maxed 1 style for all but one character in that playthrough. I'm planning on playing through it again at some point to do the other styles.

I think it took me about 31 or 32 hours.
Will ToG make sense to someone who didn't get to play ToV? If so, I must say this sounds pretty great.
You dont need to play ToV at all
I feel like we should all start an RPG and play through it simultaneously this summer.

Hmmm...nominations?
Doing a CAG plays RPG would be good, since there isn't Jack shit coming out this summer really that's new.

How about a PSOne game like Grandia or Thousand Arms?
Yup:

I am in for any game that has enemies called "Cat Boo" and "Bad Bad."

Bonus points for specifying what RPG stands for right on the cover.

One of the benefits of being a kid when those 16-bit JRPGs came out was not understanding how much I was being condescended to by the developers.

I actually loved this game when I was a kid, believe it or not.

Never played this one, but I was a big fan of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest back in the day. I still think it's underrated as 16-bit RPGs go.

I'd be down for a PS2 game. I want to play Valkyrie Profile 2 but I assume everyone's got that one under their belt already.

Maybe Baldur's Gate II? It would definitely last all summer =p

I agree. It certainly doesn't stack up to the mainline Final Fantasy titles of that era (duh), but on its own merits its a decently fun game. It also has a really fun soundtrack.

Last time someone tried a group play together and it failed badly. However it might work if we choice Zelda OoT. It is a game a lot of 3DS owner will be picking up. At the same time people who don't own a 3DS can also play it on Gamecube/Wii/N64.

Knocking out a PS2 game would be great.

But that would require me to bring out the PS2, hook it up, find my games...I can't bring myself to do five minutes of work.

i still maintain that MQ was better than 5.

Whoa, what?! :cold: 5 is like the third-best game in the number series.
Astonishia Story, so we can see who quits first.
That won't take long, I put the game in, sat on the "royal throne" and was done with it before it was time to wash my hands.

I'd put MQ between IX and III on my FF list. (and they are right above II which I hate the most)

Lol, I meant to say who quits last. Yes, because everyone is going to quit at some point.
I can't go that far. V is a much better game.
5 was pretty terrible. It and 8 are the only games in the first 10 FFs that I've never beaten. I've even beaten X-2. I don't think I've ever played Mystic Quest though.
I got all the way to the final dungeon in 8 and just stopped. I got probably half-way through 5 before stopping.
Part of me hopes they remake 5 sometime soon so I can try it again, but I don't know.
I'd love to knock out something from my PS2 back catalog like Shadow Hearts from the New World or Grandia III.
I also have a PS2 backlog. I would be interested in playing along as well; such as VP2, SH:FtNW, Grandia II, Suikoden V, Tales of the Abyss, or Rogue Galaxy. I have some others that are not coming off the top of my head.

lol, I'd be in for OoT. I make it a rule to do a yearly playthrough anyway, though I usually knock it out in a day after having played it so many times, lol

Baldur's Gate II would take many on here a year, not just a summer :D (which reminds me, I need to track down my copy. I found the gigantic manual the other day but idk where my cd's went)

i always gotta go back to diablo II, no game has matched it's nature of killing things IMO.

i get new people hooked on it even today, and initially it's all "this game looks so old! i dont' know..."

and then they start killing huntresses in the cold plains and it's like sex
