Huh.

And Fangamer, eh? *goes to check something*

...

Dammit! The Mus are sold out! I talked to one of their people at PAX East and they said they'd email me once they went on sale (they were on display at their booth, but not available for purchase at the time). fuck you, Fangamer :bomb:
Those need to not be sold out. :(

Also, I am pretty much addicted to DQ9. I can't fucking put the game down. Even at work...

but I decided not to get it coz they were gonna be at an event that weekend and I could buy it off them.

so when I went to see them they had already sold out of my size :bomb:

I still want that shirt!!!

oh btw Blueshin where'd u pre-order your Chrono trigger statues from??

they sell them at hlj with the Marle figure, but the set costs like twice as much as everywhere else sellin it without Marle!!

All this talk of DQ8 has made me want to go back and finish it. I don't know if I can handle such a long game now, but my impulsive game playing urges are pretty strong.

Started DQIX yesterday. I like the stylus controls, and the graphics are gorgeous - I daresay it's the best-looking game on the DS. Gonna play more today.
Damn, I didn't see them at the booth. Got some CT pins, though.
They were in a glass case with a bunch of Mother 3 sculptures; here's a photo.

I bought some CT pins from them, too, as well as a Lavos Spawn keychain. Also got a second keychain and a Metal Gear pin set for a friend of mine.

It's still available online, though, right? Fangamer is never going to restock those Mus :bomb:

As for the CT Formation Arts, I preordered mine at HLJ early enough so that I got 5% off. There are (or were?) some better preorder discounts out there, but those shops only ship EMS, and SAL has served me well enough at HLJ.

The figure with Marle is Japan-exclusive AFAIK, so you'll have to buy by the case to be guaranteed one. That, or wait for it to show up on eBay, which, of course, might end up being more expensive...
So all DQ needed to be successful in America was to be published by Nintendo?
Remains to be seen, but they certainly have given it their best effort, you can't fault them at all.

I really haven't used the stylus controls, but what I did use of them I didn't really like at all, feels way too imprecise. Maybe I'll need to try them again.

I just started DQ9 last night and I was very happy that the non-stylus controls work well. I almost always dislike using the stylus. :)

I'm playing DQ9 with minimal stylus (basically only using it for text entry), but I'm loving it so far; I just made my party of characters over my lunch break. Right now I have Celes (Main character - Minstrel), Terra (Priest), Sabin (Martial Artist), and Windia (Mage).

The skill system is a little annoying though since you can't really tell what a skill will do till you unlock it so it is really hard to decide which skill set to go down, and I think I already made a mistake since I went swords and shields with my main character but I probably should have just done swords and then the non-weapon related skill set. It kind of reminds me of DQ8 where I decided to do hand to hand with my main character until the end of the game when I discovered that hand to hand is by far the worst weapon type in that game because it doesn't scale with the other weapon types since late game weapons all add a lot of attack power, which adds up to much more than the percentage boost you get at the end of hand to hand.

Been playing through DQ9 and loving it.

I don't care for the stylus controls either and am sticking to the buttons.

I think moving around on the overworld map is kind of awkward with the d-pad though.

@Icebeast: Is it really that bad with H2H? I remember for most of the game I had Angelo with the 2nd worst bow in the game. Almost all the time I was under-equipped.

I hope that when I get back to Observatory I'll get free pizza.

I don't even get this, but somehow I still laughed.

One thing I probably should've mentioned - I'm using a Hori stylus holder (as I have done so ever since I got my Lite). Makes playing anything with the stylus much more comfortable ;)

icebeast: I hear ya about the skill sets. I've been trying to spend points carefully, but mostly, I just hang onto them for awhile.

Like the game wasn't that much harder because DQVIII isn't all that hard but in the epilogue I had to switch because I just wasn't doing very good damage and did so much more by just equipping a sword even without much training in it at the start.

The major problem is that the best skill for Fisticuffs gives you +50 attack which I guess adds onto your base attack power. But, an end game weapon like a Liquid Metal Sword has 118 attack and with skills in Swords you get +25 more attack which I think again probably goes on top of your base attack power, so it is like 50 vs 143 weapon attack power so you do almost 3 times as much damage with a weapon. Like hand to hand kind of degrades over the game but starts off equivalent or a little better than the other weapons, and you don't have to spend money on weapon upgrades but at the end of the game you are really gimping yourself.

I guess you are not a Celestetrian.

So, I'm about to pick up Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 in the Gamstop B2G1 sale -- are they worth paying $30 for? I feel dumb paying for stuff that's so old :cold:

EDIT: Ah I think I'll just look to borrow it from somebody, someone is bound to have them.

So I've been using 3 characters in DQIX as opposed to 4 with a Ministrel, Martial Artist and Priest. It's been extremely easy with that set-up. I bet I just jinx'd myself.

Huh. Throw in a Mage, and that's my lineup.

Just reached Alltrades Abbey, though, so maybe I'll be switching their jobs around soon...

This game looks pretty fun, how exactly does multiplayer work? Can I just join people in a crowded area or do we need to connect deliberately?

Yakuza 3 is awesome!!

Sweet, they're bringing over Classic Dungeon! Had briefly played the japanese version and it was pretty awesome. Glad to see they didn't skip over it because of its crappy, yet awesome, graphics.

...Why the fuck is it named Cladun though?

Because Classic Dungeon is the most generic name there is?
classic dungeon
Yeah, don't know how I missed it. It still sounds really dumb in my opinion.

And Cladun is better? I still don't see why they changed the name to something that has terrible phonetics.
I'm really upset that they aren't bringing over Princess Antiphona, and probably never will.
Looks like no La Pucelle: Ragnarok either. The poor sales of Disgaea 2 PSP probably didnt help

On that note, my copy of Disgaea 2 for the PS2 is still sealed...

So according to this issue of Game Informer, Dragon Age 2 might be going the way of Mass Effect 2. I could see it benefiting is some aspects but I hope they keep DA unique in its own way.

Finished up DQIX. The last boss was a nightmare. Which was frustrating but also nice since it actually felt like I was playing a Dragon Quest game there for a bit after a cakewalk up to that point. Took me four tries to beat it, I was blindsided by the cheapness.

Going to be playing this game for a while yet..

lol.

Im on chapter 10 now in Yakuza 3, and I gotta say...

Majima Goro is seriously one of the greatest game characters ever.

EVER!

Id prolly rank him overall at #6, right after Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan,

becoz he spits hot fire!!!

Nice on both Phantom Brave and especially Tactics Ogre. Crossing my fingers they both make it over to America. That reminds me, I need to dig out my copy of Disgaea, still only a fraction of the way through it.

That's awesome news about Tactics Ogre. I haven't played the original since way back in the day, and it's pretty cost prohibitive to pick up a copy now. I hope it comes over.

There have been way too many PSP re-releases of PS1 games which haven't made it over (the Suikoden compilation and BoFIII spring to mind, though the latter can be imported from Europe). I heard something at some point about SoA having some dumb rule about PSP ports needing a certain amount of new content, but that may well have been bs.

I'm at the 30 hour mark of DQIX, and I'm finding myself getting bored of it. I never thought I'd say that, but that happens to me with just about any RPG. (Although it didn't really happen with Hexyz Force for some reason).
I think Phantom Brave was the best SPRG NIS ever made.
I really need to go back and play that again. I bought it at launch and don't really remember being impressed with it, but given its now about to get it's second re-release, obviously there's something there. I must have just missed the boat.

Ya that happens to me a lot too, it is kind of a combination of getting bored and suddenly being interested in something else; and it is terrible for me too since if I switch off an RPG for more than 1 month I usually end up restarting it, but not right away because I'm in that phase where I don't want to restart the game because I just played it but I don't remember everything so I want to restart. This has lead to a lot of restarting of RPGs for me. Usually if I manage to finish an RPG without restarting I consider it to be a very special game.

The same thing happens to me a lot. That's why if I'm really into a game I'll always force myself to take a day off here or there so I don't get burned out on it. I did that with DQIX last week, put it down for a whole day and didn't touch it, and I came back with renewed interest the next day.
