The campaign that comes with Shadowrun Returns - Dead Man's Switch - isn't particularly good for a lot of the reasons that you mentioned. Now, Shamans themselves aren't bad because haste is fucking sweet and you can always Make A Dude, but deckers are pretty crap in it. And yes, what doesn't count for cover in that game is fucking ridiculous.

The Dragonfall expansion is generally really god damn good although it shares some of the problems with the base game (and lemme tell you, the cover problems get even worse when you're running a rigger with a pair of drones). Decking comes up non-fucking-stop though the Matrix parts themselves are kinda boring combat slogs. The dialogue and the story actually attempted to give a fuck and apparently "magical European anarchist commune" is one of my weaknesses or something.

The new one they're working on, Hong Kong, looks to fix a lot of the problems. Better clarity on shotgun and SMG spread, the ability to go into turn-based mode out of combat, etc. No word on making the cover system reliable.

There are literally dozens of adjectives you could have used to describe the enemy AI that weren't offensive.
It's caught up in the euphemism game, but I agree. On revision I would use something different. Sorry to offend.

You're right, I'd neglected Haste. My shaman uses Haste, Bear, and Lightning Wall exclusively (and again, the use of Lightning Wall is an affectation, enemies would rather stand in one place and miss with rifles).

I've definitely gone Make-A-Dude, and it's disappointing that the game hasn't punished me for it. I've got just enough quickness to get full auto fire on a rifle, just enough intelligence for a lvl 3 deck and a class B drone, and just enough charisma to get the bear totem and lightning wall (no summons for me, on paper it sounds like a bullshit deal). Somehow I survive.

Overall the story and combat really plod along. It's unlikely that I'll go for Dragonfall and then Hong Kong, even though the setting is alluring. As with most of my gaming decisions anymore, it's up to Valve's crazy economists. When they get near the $1 level I'll bite.

I need to play that and buy that expansion. Speaking of, I should of bought Trails In The Sky when it was on sale, but $10 was just too much in Steam dollars, lol. I will bite when it hits $5.

I also need to play Wasteland 2 as well seeing I backed that and Torment.

I have this problem of my RPG backlog is so big and well I know it will reach $5 on Steam. I know I should buy it. Next time it's on sale I will be sure to grab it.
I bought it when it came out because I wanted to support it, but in all likelihood, I won't get around to playing it until after it hits that price for the first time during some random sale.

whooo~!!! got my invitation to the Earthbound convention!!

bad news tho, it's the same weekend as Evo

on the brighter side, not going to Earthbound convention would save me from a trip to Arizona.

that terrible, terrible state...

you cant hold the 願い星 of video games down!

you cant!

I said fukk it, and jus bought my Earthbound Con tickets anyways.

the fighting game thread is dead after all... deader than this thread.

best case scenario everybody realizes how old they've grown and doesnt even bother with Evo, a trip to Arizona instead would actually cost me less money than vegas anyways.

worst case scenario I can jus sell my pass. They're limited to 450 tickets so I'm sure the demand will be there post-sellout.

now to actually play the darn game tho... I dont even think I'm close to halfway done >_<

Granted, most RPG people chat in the Japanese Niche game thread.
I think the last time I checked that thread (it was awhile ago), it was just a bunch of arguing...

Pretty sure I'm near the end of Devil Survivor: Raidou vs. Zombies.
♫ There are zombies in Japan / We don't want zombies in Japan ♫
Hoping to beat it tonight. (ETA: Nnnnnnope. I swear, every time I think I'm coming to the end of this game, a new chapter pops up…) It got better as it went along, but I need a break before I play another SMT, be it Raidou 2 or something else. Think I'll fill that break with Valkyria Chronicles.

Also up to six Gym Badges in SoulSilver, whee.

Raidou vs. Zombies beaten! \o/ It was okay; certainly not in the top tier of MegaTens (and the localization was a little sloppy for Atlus), but still pretty decent. That's one more down for my PS2 and MegaTen backlogs.

I'm so hyped for P5. I hate I have to wait until the end of the year or 2016. I have a stack of games that will keep me busy until then.

I don't even know where to start. Even the menu screens are overwhelmingly stylish. Incredible trailer!

From the art style to the soundtrack, Persona 5 is gonna be awesome. It does seem like they may have slimmed down the playable cast to just 4 (or there are more yet to be revealed?) and that would be okay with me. I really like the platforming and sneaking aspects they teased most of all.

In one small part right before the menu stuff, you'll see the Cat zoom out with 9 persona names. It seems like at least 7 of those are the 7 deadly sins. One of them has a different color to it though. People are also hypothesizing that there are at least 7 members for each of the 7 deadly sins. However cats also have 9 lives so to speak, so it's also possible that the cat has a persona for each of its 9 lives which would make it rather unique.

Cooperation in the menu is likely Social Links and it's nice that you can equip guns and clothes outside of the usual stuff.

The way the trailer presented it looked like all 9 personas belong to the Cat, cause of the cat being in all 9 panels.

Purely a guess, but it almost looks like they transform into their personas instead of summoning them. This would make the cat's 9 personas not overpowered, since it can only be one at a time. It would also eliminate the need for more than the 4 characters if the cat is closer to 9 characters. It would also make it extremely popular, which would be great in the merchandizing front.

One thing that worries me a little is the costumes. It feels like they have the opportunity to release a lot of DLC costumes.

So is George or Kramer the cat? They both fit the bill.

Yeah, the cat would only be able to use one at a time or else it would be pretty overpowered. I'm also finding it a little weird that there are two velvet room assistants (twins I think?) rather than the usual one. This could mean some weird voodoo with other party members such as part of the reason why the cat has 9 personas. That's a stretch though.

And yeah, it's possible that they could put in some costume DLC. If they do though, hopefully it's reasonable. It's also possible that clothing could have stats/bonuses as well rather than just be cosmetic.

As long as P5 still has collecting personas/fusing them, I don't care how they are summoned.

That style though, this is easily one of the most stylish games of the past 5 years I have seen.

I am fine with Costume DLC, I mean it doesn't affect the game in any way.

Wow, that looks great. Still shocked it's the first Persona on PS3 (right?) and P4 was a friggin PS2 game! Better late than never?

I really should get back to P4G one of these days...

I just realized that fighting games aside, this is gonna be the first Persona I play on a non-handheld console.

Yeah. I am so glad I'm finally getting a PS3 this year.

Haven't watched the trailer (spoiler avoidance mode, activate!), but have seen a few screencaps/gifs and yep, still looking forward to this!

Awesome trailer. It's defiantly got that Persona swagger. I'm almost more excited to hear the soundtrack than I am about the actual game.

But finally another Persona game Atlus can milk for 7 years.

I'm... a little skeptical is all. "From the makers of Hannah Montana: The Movie and Call of Duty: Black Ops (... for the DS)" doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.

While the game may (or may not) suck, the big point I see is being able to create adventures in a more modernized engine with D&D rules. It also looks like you can DM while others play too. Which of course they hopefully don't fuck up that part of it at the very least or the ruleset to gameplay transition.

The "playable DM" thing is the most intriguing part of it to me. I'm expecting it to be more of a dungeon-crawl-y experience than Torment 2 or Pillars or any of the modern old-school-y RPGs, which doesn't appeal to me in any particular way, but asymmetrical gameplay is always interesting.

(I also don't like modern D&D rules. I mean, I didn't like them during NWN or BG or whatever either, but... eh.)

I'm still waiting for someone to come and program D.O.G.R.P.G. for me,

but until I finally launch it on kickstarter, this will suffice for now:

I'm finally playing Valkyria Chronicles! Enjoying it so far.

Yeah, I'm almost always behind with JRPGs, but I have a good excuse in this case: never owned a PS3 (playing the PC port via Steam)

hello all. i bought my very first 3DS yesterday along with Bravely Default. it's a strange game. i'm not sure i agree with the player-adjusted pace features (seems like the developers are taking a pass on responsibilities), but the art and dialogue are all awesome so I'm enjoying it regardless. reminds me of FFV a lot.

They also did Geist, and I really liked Geist. But yeah, this will probably be their biggest IP they've ever worked on after mostly doing a bunch of licensed BS, primarily on handhelds. They are working on it with Digital Extremes (Dark Sector, Darkness II) who have a bit more HD experience. I'm still a bit cautiously optimistic because the game is outside of both developer's area of expertise but the early screenshots at least look very promising.

Bravely Default is a good game but be warned. It get's to a point where it's very repetitive. Also, concentrate on leveling up in the 4 chapter and higher. Do not level up too early because it will take a while. There are items that give you double xp points.

I need to go back to it. I quit about chapter 4 because the story kinda felt boring to me at that point.

Yeah, just heard about that. I'm still pretty much in 'Wat.' mode. Good to see that we're seemingly starting to get more on the PC. Makes me wonder a bit how well sales are actually doing for games like Metal Gear, Valkyria Chronicles, Hyperdimension Neptunia, and others.

Link to the DB item, but it was later changed to TOZ.

Also since the PS4 uses essentially the same x86-64 architecture as the PC, I can only imagine seeing this happening a bit more in the future. Hopefully.

I want that to be a real game. Can you imagine the equipment?! Puffy shirts, Pez dispensers, coffee table books (about coffee tables) that double as coffee tables themselves, Cuban cigars, etc…
