What's wrong with Unity?

Random JRPG update: Beat Dark Cloud earlier today. Was not a fan of the fishing, and especially not the boss battles, but it was kind of neat to see what's by now an ancient Level-5 artifact. They've come a long way since then.
I just played that game last month, I really enjoyed how the last dungeon of the game. Although I enjoyed the fishing more than the weapon leveling, and restarting when I only got like plus one to three defense boosts.
Unity is great for making short budgeted games. But the amount of bugs the Unity engine causes is ridiculous.

A full fledged RPG using the Unity engine is really asking for a lot problems. Obsidian deciding to use Unity is just asking for trouble.

Usually Unity is tied to a web browser, so say bye to any offline gaming. Unless if they are able to get this thing have its own stand alone launcher.
Maybe their history with bugs will help them... ah who am I kidding.

They've already said that won't be the case.

DC2 was ALL about the fishing! Fish races?! Yes, pls. Some of the boss battles were pretty good. I started playing it again and it is still pretty fun. It's a shame there is still no DC3 in sight. ._.

Apparently Dungeon Siege 3 was actually pretty good on the bug front.

I wouldn't know, because who the fuck played Dungeon Siege 3?

I tried... in co-op once... We stopped less than an hour in when the screen sharing on online co-op got extremely annoying and limiting. When my co-op buddy wasn't able to level up properly and then once he reconnected, he was able to level up twice per level. At which point we decided, fuck it.
They've already said that won't be the case.
That is good, but I am still going to be a skeptic until I see some gameplay. If you want to see what Unity can do, check out Battlestar Galactica.

Also, since when did Mass Effect 3 become a corridor shooter?

Dungeon Siege 3 was actually well done. Not the world's best game, but definitely entertaining enough for me to blast through it on a rental. Don't recall any serious glitches either. Didn't try co-op though.

Dark Cloud 2's fishing is waaaaay better.

I did like the weapon upgrade system, though having to constantly switch elements during the final boss battle was a bit of a pain. I also reloaded a couple times during the course of the game after accidentally breaking some pretty sweet gear.

I must've spent something like 70 hours playing DC2 in large part thanks to fishing and Finny Frenzy (didn't like the golfing, though). In DC, my final time was around 41 hours. The fishing in the older game was... just not worth it.

I will take your word on the fishing, never played DC2 but I really need to get it out of the way. Maybe that will be my next RPG, but right now Silent Hill 2 is calling to me again.

You know was there ever a good horror rpg made, other than the Shin Megami series?

Been playing Persona 3 and just defeated the 4th full moon boss. Loving the game so far. I totally gave up on leveling academics as it was just too much of a pain in the ass. Not sure if I even want to level my courage for Fuuka though. >_>

I've put ME 2 on Easy to play through. I really didn't like (or get) the combat of it, not to mention the long loading times on :ps3:

So far the story hasn't quite captivated me much either, probably because I never played the first game and I don't have as much emotional attachment to the characters.

It reminds me alot of Dragon Age (which I know came out later, but I played DA first). Liked DA more.

If you work at the tea shop, I believe you have the chance to get a double boost in courage. If you want to get your academics up, remember you can always study at the library before you leave school and again at night.

ME2 and ME3 are corridor shooters more so than an RPG. It is tough to get into the second game if you have never played the first one. I am currently on the third game and a lot of the story choices already do not make any sense:

So I am trying to get everyone on my side again? Didn't the Citadel already experience the power of the Reapers? The threat is real and people are dying. The only person that has defeated a Reaper is me, so why aren't people listening to me? And why do I have to recruit another team? I already put together two Reaper stomping teams. Where my peeps at?

Having complete control with the Nostromo and my G700 makes the gameplay a bit refreshing. I can command my teammates extremely well while I am engaging multiple enemies with no problem.

I would have been pissed if I paid full price on the game that's for sure. For $15 is alright.

And playing on easy is -too- easy. (I haven't died yet) But on normal I'm too tempted to run in guns blazing, to hell with cover. Causing long load times and frustration.

I never seem to use my skills or the different types of ammo. It was only $10, I think.

Easy removes Shield and Armor attributes on enemies thus removing the player having to have the correct team to take out certain enemies.

I did switch it up to normal since it felt like I was just passing through the game instead of playing it. We'll see how long it lasts.
What was patched? Sorry, blocked at work. Love me some SS2!
Bascially someone posted patches to the games that help it run stable on modern machines. Now if SS2 was only available for sale...

New $2.3 million goal added. Modular high-difficulty settings.

EDIT: Multiplayer confirmed out.

Lame stretch goal if you ask me. It can't cost that much to code modular difficulty settings, and they really should include it to begin with, especially since they probably have to plan for it in the code from the start.
The most important feature these days to me is a save anywhere feature. I don't want to go back to town or finish this chapter before I can save.
(Can you save anywhere in Tactics Ogre or Trails in the Sky?)
Yes, for Tactics Ogre. It's also got a quick save feature so you can save and pick back up mid-battle if need be. Haven't played TitS so I can't say there.
Should be finishing P3 soon. Debating between Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy VI as my next game. Any opinions?
Depends on what you want in your next game. Both are great however they are both wholly different beasts. Final Fantasy 6 is extremely easy to approach, with its one off and self contained story. Chrono Cross, on the other hand, is not a typical sequel. It deals with how the world dealt with the meddling the characters of Chrono Cross did. Though one can understand the general concepts of the plot, a lot of the higher plot points are steeped in the previous game, but only hinted at in Cross and many nagging plot points you may encounter will only make sense with the previous game.
That said the battle system in Cross is more interesting than the one in Final Fantasy 6 and the fact that one can play the game with a huge multitude of characters, each of which fleshes out the world in surprising ways. Also the music in Cross has some of the best music from the era. Final Fantasy 6 has, in my opinion, stronger character growth and focus (though this is a necessary thing considering that the cast of characters for cross is something like 40+), and a battle system that is more brisk and exciting.

So if you want an RPG to sink your teeth into, and maybe read a few online articles to explain things than Cross would be a good poison, on the other hand if you want an RPG that is easy to approach and puts characters at the forefront than FF6 is the better choice.

Thank you. Does the quick save quit the game like some quick saves do?

System shock was one of the very few games that I've ever gone back and played a second time. 2 was good, but I didn't like the "Many" parts.

I didn't know people actually used the quick save feature, I just shut off the system and let it reload to wherever I was whenever I pick it back up.
passed the 25 hour mark in Xenobladez!!

Prison Island

maaaaaaaaan this game is real good!!!
Awesome, glad you're enjoying it. Are you tackling all the sidequests?

Done with my post-Dark Cloud no-RPGs break, and have little idea of what to play next :whee: All I'm sure of is that I'd prefer something turn-based or semi-turn-based that's not MegaTen.

What I have in my backlog that fits:
- Dungeons of Dredmor
- Opoona
- Sakura Wars: So Long My Love
- Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
- Suikoden V

...and I think that's it. Right now I'm leaning toward either Sakura Wars or Suikoden. Also strongly considering Sonic; just beat Generations, though. Any suggestions for what I should play next?

Suikoden V seems like the safe choice. But if you do decide to play it be prepared for a slow start. Besides that I really have nothing bad to say about it. Great characters and a great story. I like that the plot is a political intrigue rather than your cliched save the world JRPG.

Have you played any Suikoden games before? Suikoden V is more of a throwback to first two games, which is a good thing.

I enjoyed Suikoden V quite a bit, couldn't really get into Sakura Wars or Sonic Chronicles. Haven't tried Opoona or Dredmor.

Again I liked V, but it wasn't the best of the PS2 games, that would probably be III. Though II is arguably the best of the whole series.

I'm pretty sure it's also extremely rare these days, seen copies for well over $100 at some places.
Nope. This would be my first experience with the series.
You wont miss much. There are returning characters but since this is more of a prequel you see them in their younger days.

Suikoden V is actually my favorite in the series and I honestly think it's the better game. Suikoden III didn't age well in terms of combat. It didn't have an open world and returning to the same fields was repetative. And while Suikoden II is a close contender the only thing it wins at is having the better villian with Luca Blight.

Admittedly I'm mostly going on fuzzy rose-tinted memories here I haven't played any of the games in years.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o8GTA8-EPU

fuck. I've been saying his name wrong for years.

To all the three people who are nerdy enough for me to mention his name to in an actual conversation.
As a follow-up to something that bothered only me...
Don't sweat it. We had to Americanize the name when we came to the States. The hard E is technically correct.
So, hey. Awesome.

And play Suikoden 2.

Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood is pretty bad. (From Bioware?)

All of the attacks are rhythm based. Even healing spells (and items too maybe). So if you miss the button press, no healing for you. Makes the game harder than it needs to be.
