Back to what I had said about the modding. The 360 has been figured out so that you can play a copy of a burned game. However, since the 360 supports dvd-r playback, it is possible that the system cannot tell that it is a copied game if done correctly. Whereas the original Xbox modding was done mostly by playing of a bigger hard drive which is easier to detect. I haven't seen anything of 360 playing of a hard drive. Yet. I also haven't looked too much.
To my knowlege the only way to 'hack' a 360 is to flash the firmware or bios. Apparently MS has no way of knowing this on XBL.
well no shit sherlock, my blockbuster and hollywood video has had them it since this past Tuesday but they won't rent it out until this coming up Tuesday.
No need to get bitchy, wow.

The Target here in Ames, IA had several copies in their case ready to sell. I noticed the price tag was covered up. I didn't try to buy a copy, but it was definately there. I then headed over to my local Gamestop where I overheard someone asking about the game. I tipped them off about Target and off they went. Boy, those employees were just a little pissed at me...oops!
No need to get bitchy, wow.
I don't see how "no shit, sherlock" is bitchy, but okay.

All of you guys keep seeing it.. someone try to buy it then let us know how it is, i'm dying to play this one.. if I didn't have it prepaid off i'd go out and try to get it.. but since it's this close to release date, might as well wait and play some more Hitman and Fight Night (even though i've beat the hell out of both).

Just came back from Target in Modesto, CA and they had 2 copies in the glass case. I just bought a couple of games this week so I am going to hold off on this game for a while. It is there and looks ready to sell.

i saw the "empty section" with the price tag for Saints Row as well...of course, like many of you, the games were not in the glass case though
To my knowlege the only way to 'hack' a 360 is to flash the firmware or bios. Apparently MS has no way of knowing this on XBL.
That's right. It's a hack of the DVD drive firmware. It essentially makes the DVD drive tell the 360 and XBL that the burned disc you're playing is an authentic game disc, which means you can play undetected on Live...for now.

On the old Xbox, the only way they could detect it is if you played a burned or ripped game on Live. Most people installed toggle switches to disable the modchip when they wanted to play on Live.

going to wal-mart now just for some misc. stuff. I guess I'll check for saints row even though my wal-mart never does anything cool like this.
Local Wal-Mart had it. I bought a copy (anybody looking for a trade? haha).

Best part was after doing the monetary exchange and getting my reciept I told them that the game had a hard street date of Tuesday and I hope they didn't get in trouble and I walked out.
Um... how did you get a Wal-Mart to sell you a copy when the registers are not keyed to allow the sale of the game before Tuesday? I saw the game at two seperate Wal-Mart's, one was in the case, one was hidden on the bottom shelf spine down where I guess they tried to hide them since they weren't for sale.

At each Wal-Mart, the same thing happened - employee took the game, tried to ring me up, the register flashed a "Not Allowed for Sale" message, and wouldn't allow the cashier to go any further. They would both talk to another employee, who would then go to a manager, who confirmed that the game shouldn't be sold until Tuesday and that they aren't going to manually override it, which is the only way to get the game sold. They both told me to come back 12:01 am Tuesday morning and they'd sell it to me then.

One Target had no price tag, employee found it in the back, but said the box was marked not to sell until Tuesday so no dice.

Another Target knew as soon as I asked that it was Tuesday and people keep calling. A third Target had the shelf tag but no game so I didn't bother asking.

The last Target I hit up, the guy told me he already got into alot of trouble selling the game once today already, espically since he was only helping out in the department, and that there is "absolutely no way I'm further putting my job on the line selling a second one, this time I know better".

I didn't even bother hitting up the last Wal-Mart because I knew the register would just deny me the sale.

I don't like wasting the time but I figured if I got it tonight, I have tonight and all day Sunday to play it, I'm just too busy during the weekdays with college to put in any quality time with it.

I didn't buy it, but I did see it.
I also apoligize for that above comment because it was my older brother trying to make me look like a fool while I played some Dead Rising.
Again, apoligies for that. That'll teach me to allow him to use my computer.
I got my copy this morning from Target with no trouble. I hope no one gets fired over this, cuz I'm not taking mine back.
I kinda felt bad for the dude today, it seemed like he got in a lot of shit for supposedly selling one. All he told me is that "I already got in alot of trouble for getting a game out of the back and selling it, this isn't even my deptartment so sorry, I'm not going in the back for anybody, no matter how many the scanner says we have... you'll have to take it up with my manager".

If it was already out in the glass case I don't think I'd mind, but I don't want to get someone fired because I want a game two days early and I'm having to trick some Target employee into going in the back and grabbing it for me using any number of excuses. That's when I stopped my quest to find one because, I don't know, I'm a CAG and I've done some low stuff but I'm not getting someone canned.

I'm not saying you did this, I'm just musing in general, so don't take it personally. If only one of the four Targets here just put the game in the case already :(
How likely is it that I will get banned from XBL for playing my copy of Saints Row? Should I just unplug until Tuesday?
Scorch was playing Madden 2007 4 days early, and he still has Live... just play it.

Street dating games has to be the stupidest policy, they should just sell them if they have them, but eh, whatever. I'm still not even sure why Saints Row is out early and street dated, it's a big game but nowhere near THAT big.

I don't see why they would ban you just for getting a game early. If they ban you they lose a customer, which means they lose your money. I can maybe see it happening if you SOMEHOW got a hold of a game you were not supposed to MONTHS before it was supposed to come out, like a partially complete game that you stole or something and you were not supposed to have.

I am paranoid and don't want to piss away the money I have invested on this system/XBL. I am firing it up right now. I am going to make an online gang just to get the skinny on the whole limitations(# of members, # of characters in names and shit) if possible.

Another reason not to be paranoid is what if someone who has no clue about when a game comes out goes into their local game store and sees that they have Saints Row. They want to buy it and the cashier lets them. Now, is it their problem that they got Saints Row a day early and should they be penalized for it? NO!

100%.

As others said, I was playing Madden a few days early.. hell, some other people were playing too. Play it online, nothing will happen.

Not very?

It'd be too costly for Microsoft to start banning folks for getting a game early in addition to dealing with the usual problems.

They won't ban you for playing a game early. Unless the game was stolen. The worse that would happen is that they would contact you by some means and find out how you acquired the game. This would then result in the store you bought it from getting a fine. Have no worries.

Oh this game is out already unofficially at retailers. I know because im playing it right now. Hasn't improved much from the demo as far as frame rate and stuff goes but its still good. Nobody actually is online with this except two booster gangs who are 19/0-and the other gang is 0/19...boosters are fast...where I cant even get an online game going yet they are already boosting. I wouldnt have it yet if it wasnt for a friend who had access to it.

I love how all these people who say they buy it, suddenly seem to disappear forever. I'm going into town today for Subway, and I'll stop by Target. If they have it, I'll buy it, and jump on XBL with it for everyone to see.

And another thing, MS can't do anything to you for playing the game early. You did nothing wrong or illegal by purchasing it for full price at a retailer.

Mine proof.
holy crap the cover is shiny? YES! SHINY! Is that the actual case or is that a slipcover?
No shit sherlock, the cover is shiney.

jalu's just whining because he stated the obvious and is upset that I said no shit sherlock to him or something. Even though his statement was obvious, mine was not, as there was no way to tell the cover was shiny prior to seeing it in stores.
Googled "Saints Row in Tampa" to see if anyone had found the game and posted about it on a message board... here's a douche who says his Dad is the "Head of Konami" so he got the game early and is playing with the "beta testers".

Tampa is such a fucking wasteland.

Have fun with that.
Do they not realize Konami has nothing to do with this game? I should go there and say that he's lying, that i'm the head of konami, and prove it by showing I was playing Madden 4 or 5 days prior to the 22nd.

I guess I am a beta tester as well.

I haven't messed around with custom sound tracks yet, but I know you can make your own when you buy the music in the stores and when you use your Xbox 360 HDD/Live Link Dealiemajig.

No shit sherlock. Thanks for pointing out what Technique did on the last page.

There's so much aggression in this thread. Can I ask a quick question without being stabbed in the face? LOL.

For those that have the game, is there blood in the game? I loved the demo but thought it was odd that there was no blood.

If this has already been covered, you may stab me. But please, not in the face.

I am stabbing you anyway. There is no blood. Well no pools on the ground.

normally i'd be all over this, but stupid 360 broke down. I guess I won't mind waiting for my outpost.com preorder to ship now.

I also didn't know that the cover was going to be shiny.

Actually, I looked back and don't see anything obvious that was posted by Technique. And if there was it sure as hell wasn't as obvious as your stupid post that stated something that at the time was in the title of the thread.
I am stabbing you anyway. There is no blood. Well no pools on the ground.
That is absolute BS. I can't believe there is no blood.

I love how people play games they buy... oh wait.
