Saints Row Official Thread (New map available for download)

any of you guys seeing bad jaggies on this game? Its seriously distracting for me (running in 720p widescreen). And, oddly, on the demo it looks GREAT with no breaks at all. I've heard a couple references to Vsync-ing in the volition forums, but this looks like plain ol missing anti alias :(

My bros knocked over my 360 as I was playing this today and made one of those damn rings of scratches on the disk. I tried booting the game back and everything ran fine except that my guy was bald and he lost all his clothes except for his underwear the eye piercing and his necklace, and oddly enough he had no feet. So I head to my hideout to get some clothes on and the game freezes up every time I try to put clothes on him.

Luckily wal mart was cool and just gave me a new copy no questions asked.

You mean jaggies as in ugly PS1 graphics jaggies, or jaggies as in the screen tearing that occurs on the screen?

If it's screen tearing, it's V-Sync, its a known issue that Volition didn't enable V-Sync in order to keep the FPS high. Personally, I believe the game is just poorly coded, because I still get framerate drops occasionally, but oh well, my eyes get used to it after awhile.

It's just extremely bad in like the nightclub or the chinese restaurant, not sure why but it tears so much its almost unplayable.

What the hell is that?
the ending = WHAT THE fuck!?
You must have played the hell out of the game. Im still working on the Carnales and havnt touched the rollers & kings yet.

Picked up my copy today. Basically tagging the thread in case I get stuck. Though it doesnt seem like a tough game.

Did I miss a cutscene or was there no real explanation given for Julius ending up in the politician's hands in the epilogue? I know he cuts his phone call short because someone flashed their lights, but was that it?

I've been going through the sidemissions but I'm having a hell of a time with the Hitman and Chop Shop, anyone have any tips, especially for the former? For the Hitman missions, will there be a big arrow over the head of the target once you track them down or do you have to eyeball them? I've had a bitch of a time trying the Mayhem missions as well.

How the hell did you beat it before anyone else here and you got it later?

So now that people have had the game for a bit, what are your opinions on it? I played the demo I got for pre-ordering, but never picked the game up since I figured the demo would just satisfy my needs. Does the full version have more features that are cool enough to validate the purchase? I had fun derailing the train and destroying stuff, and for the most part just like to mess around. How much more stuff is there to do (besides story mode and online) that the demo doesn't have? Is the full version of the city packed with things to keep you occupied? Online is tempting and is swaying my opinion. It would cost me another $50 if I were to pick it up after the $5 preorder and a GGC at BB.

Yeah I've been wondering about the Hitman missions too, I went to the Suburbs part of town to try and find the first guy on the list, drove around for about 10 minutes but there was no sign of him. What's the deal with these missions?

Edit - there are some good tips for Hitman in the gamefaqs forum, (of all places!)

Is the screen tearing and framerate better then in the demo (for those that noticed it while driving a car), and main mission wise, how long is it?

Better in some places, worse in others, I think. To be honest it was buggin the piss out of me when I first started playing it but after a few hours I didn't notice it as much and it didn't bother me.

The main mission is composed of 33(I think) individual missions, it took me around 18 hours to beat it but I did a bunch of side missions so I was at 62% done with the whole game at that point, although I didn't do any 'freeplay' stuff(like just general fucking around without doing sidemissions).

Not sure if you're aware, but to do one of the 30+ story progression missions you have to fill your "Respect" bar up once over. To get respect you have to do Side missions or activities, so that adds a lot of length to the game(you can't, if you wanted to, just go straight through the story that way).
How the hell did you beat it before anyone else here and you got it later?
cuz I've had to go all week with no Live I guess

Alot more fun then GTA Nooooooooooooo? Just remember I'll cap your ass.......or should I say (Your Cheap Ass)!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about anyone slse but I have a mad craving for Freckle Bitches burger! They look soooooo gooood. Ya know what i've had stuck in my head for for 3 days now.."Bounce like my checks did back in the day...".:bouncy:

Im in the beginning of the game and it needs me to fill up my respect meter and I did the pimp mission already.. is the only way to level up by buying clothes now?

Ok, the whole let's have the main guy be mute but OH SHIT HE TALKS parts of the game were so canned, why not just fucking give him a voice? They could have gone the route Def Jam FFNY did and give you a voice style and it be the same script but read in a different voice.
Quick question. I dont see the next Carnales mission on the map...do I have to do the strongholds before it appears?
Yes, Strongholds are actually part of the main story progression, they're supplemental to the story missions. I actually got stuck in progressing the story for a long time because I didn't realize that. The good thing is they're kinda easy.

Anyone have problems randomly opening doors? Sometimes it's like Press Y to open the door, and I'm mashing Y but it won't open. At first I thought the shop was closed, but this one store was part of a mission (Kill shopkeeps in high end district). Once I left the area and came back it opened, but at first it wouldn't let me.

Besides that and the stupid AI of my partners (blocking me in on doorways where I can't get out til I cap one of them) game is awesome

I dont mind that my guy doesnt talk. It fits his character well. He looks very Italian and is dressed in all black. I just pretend he can't speak english and isnt sure whats going on around him :p

Any easy ways to make money yet??

Any easy ways to make money yet??
It's so easy to make money in this game... just do the side quests, the money will start pouring in, and don't forget to check your stash back at your crib.

Before I knew it I already had like 200,000 dollars.
Im in the beginning of the game and it needs me to fill up my respect meter and I did the pimp mission already.. is the only way to level up by buying clothes now?
Uhh no. Buying clothes does close to nothing. All it does is that it gives you a bonus in respect points when you complete missions/activities that give you respect points. What you have to do now is progress in the story, or do activites, or stronghold missions to increase your respect.

Yup...my guess is after you finish up each gang he says a line.

i have a question. are you able to switch the controls? I mean, make the left stick to aim and the right to move around? On the demo you couldn't. thanks

I just had a huge run in with some FBI cars and I took the crappiest video you've ever seen of it... I do have a picture that I will be uploading in a second though, but its nothing like the chase, which ended by me flying off of a ramp and into a police helicopter

Does your stash ever hold more than $2000? I make like $2500 a day, but it always hits the $2000 cap before I get back to my crib.

I would like to know this as well...

Is the last misson in The Los Carnales mission strand the one where you have to take out the airplane? And where is Bill at from the Chinatown Hitman missions?

That one is a bitch. I can't seem to do it. Anyone got any tips?
That one is a bitch. I can't seem to do it. Anyone got any tips?
Thamaster, yes it is the last mission.

Zewone, I beat it on my first try by
aiming at the exploding barrels next to the RPG guys, and then when the plane is moving to take off I just unloaded on it with my Krukov and didnt worry about the cars next to me.

Thanks sean, after that I beat it in one try. For some reason I didn't see the barrels were next to each guy.

The last mission for the Rollers is a cake walk compared to the others.

So I saved the carnles for last, and I'm doing the last mission (I think) where you destory the plane. After 3 attempts I have the plane down to low health shoot and hit it with a RPG. The game locks up, I'm just staring at the screen like wtf. So I think I will give it a break for a while.

One question wtf ever happened to Johnny?

Of all the gangs IMO they had the easiest missions.

Yeah same here, thanks sean... oh and I found Bill too

Anytime guys.

Also, someone at GameFaqs made Mr T.

I wish I could make something like that...maybe even Chuck Norris.

Anyone get really pissed at the multiplayer? Granted, tonight was my first night, but there just seems to be some... issues. Lag for one pissed me off, and I think there might be some weapon balancing issues? And does different clothing offer any kind of armor protection?

There's a patch coming. I wouldn't count on weapons being messed with, but lag will be addressed. Or so they say.

That mission has been a headache for me tonight. I keep getting blown up because it is hard to aim at those damn barrels so that I can take down the RPG guys. :bomb:

So annoying cause you have to drive so far to get there too and everytime you die you have to redrive

I think I did it by accident, I took out the guy on the ground first, then the roof then I just shot 3 RPGs at the plane and it died

Took me a few tries as well. However, I also sprayed and prayed with the AK and I managed to get both guys with RPGs. I also only hit the airplane once with an RPG because it was too damn hard, and just sprayed it with the AK to finish it.

There' must be an assload of activites. I'm 45% done and I finished both the Carnales and the Vice Kings.

I like this game, and all, but I can't help but think of it as "Grand Theft Auto III: Advance"... sans the fun of driving.
