Screw E3, Xbox 2 premieres TONIGHT on MTV at 9:30pm EST

It was very cool to see Perfect Dark Zero Multiplayer (50 players? )
Plus, they used a little bit of Godzilla music during the Perfect Dark Zero part, which was really cool (when they met with one of the developers outside, and then they played the same part of the song over and over again).
Other then that the show was pretty bad.

The only interesting thing on the program were the brief flashes of the Prototypes.

Like, I expected the event to be MTV-ized, but it was just sloppy and crappy all rolled into one.
If this is Xbox's best shot they better delay the launch so they can polish they're line up. It seems like the PS3 might blow them out of the water.
I wouldn't dwell too much on the MTV teaser....i'm pretty confident we'll see a lot of great things on this system in the coming weeks.

I thought that Madden was just an FMV, but the way the defender deflected the ball and how it bounced into T.O.'s hands made it look like it was actual gameplay.

that Godzilla music was a sample from a Pharoah Monch song.
P.S. Hes a rapper.

It whet my appetite I guess...I wanna know/see more about the machine and games. the show itself overall though was not so good. Still, E3 is on the way....
Wow...It's proof positive that anything shown on MTV, no matter what the content, is guarenteed to be crap.
Agreed. I thought that show was so damn lame. I will still buy a 360..on launch day.

Oh yeah, did anyone else notice that one "pro gamer" calling the Xbox 360 the "Xbox 2". You would figure if they fly him to England they would at least make him call the system the proper name when he's endorsing it.

yea that did look like gameplay footage

Now that I think about it this was probably shown to get the more casual gamers some info. E3 should (hopefully) have more detailed info than this.

Anybody else think Madden 360 still suffers from "fatness" on the players. Geez. Lucky we didnt see a linemen.

I want that half hour of my life back, so I can spend it PLAYING games, not watching crap tv about them. If only they would have shown something I didn't know, not just a bunch of stuff that had been on the web for a hella long time (though I did learn that the new Tony is a GTA open ended spectacle, and 50 players in Perfect Dark is nuts)

LOL! It's funny you mention that. I thought I was seeing things, but I guess not.

Feh. I knew what to expect going into that MTV show because...it's MTV. ADD-edited mishmash of 2 second clips while some crappy rap-rock band blares in the background and celebrities that you don't care about talk about how awesome the system will be. So in that respect, it wasn't disappointing since it was exactly what I knew it would be.

Still, what little was shown ranged from "that doesn't look any better than what we have now" (Tiger Woods 06, Tony Hawk) to "that's a little better, I guess" (Project Gotham 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Madden) to "OH MY GOD" (Need For Speed). By the time the system comes out I'm sure all of the above will be more impressive though, so there's no reason to pass final judgement at the moment.

What DOES annoy me about the MTV show is that they didn't even mention a lot of the appealing aspects of the system...all they did was talk about the wireless controllers and the capability to buy stuff for your in-game characters online (bah).

Oh well. Regardless, so far, so good.
All that did was tell me what I already know.
The "special" was geared towards those "urban", "grown up" console gamers that are too busy blinging out to look at the internet.

Perfect Dark Zero = Franchise
Madden '06 = Mega Franchise
Tiger Woods '06 = Franchise
Need For Speed: Most Wanted = Mega Franchise
Tony Hawk: American Wasteland = Mega Franchise

5 for 5 so far.

When are these companies going to begin making original games? I've been playing games since 1985, and these companies are making these games over and over because the most common type of person who will play games these days are teenagers on the younger end of the "teen" spectrum, they weren't even alive when some of these franchises began (Madden).

MTV completely cheesed this up. They show some slut showing the console for 5 seconds, then they have some cheesy emo band, followed by a slew of commercials, then Sway, the guy that knows nothing about everything comes in and tries to act gangta to these software engineers. Then MTV works in a free advertisement for Pimp my Ride by having these fools mod a damn Xbox, like it's a new concept.

I'm witnessing the wrong gaming revolution.

It sure sounded like a Godzilla song to me, but I could be wrong.

It was a pretty weak demo, they really didn't show off the system, just some eye candy here and there. I was expecting a some what in depth look at the system, and all I got was a lot of hyping (whoa didn't see that coming). From what they did show though it looks pretty damn good, and I hope those gameplay demos are real time/real world renders, if they are

The show was 30 mins of garbage, nothing really impressed me very much. The moniker of Xbox 1.5 is especially apparent with the unveiling of PD0. Jesus what a crock....
LOL! It's funny you mention that. I thought I was seeing things, but I guess not.
No you arent. Its been a hallmark of madden games for years. I really thought they FINALLY fix it but I guess not. The fatness always makes them look so squat too. 6 feet tall players look 5 or even 4 feet tall (linemen are worst)

That WCC xbox was usgly looking. proving that when ever they run out of ideas they just stick moniters on everything

I fucking love the fact that you can turn the system on/off with the gamepad.

Also, I wonder if this'll make things rougher on 3rd party controller makers?
Wasn't impressed at all. The games don't look any better than whats out there. I think video gaming has finally peaked.
I wouldnt say "peaked". It does look better, but not the difference between the Ps1 and Ps2 eras.

My programming friend had a wonderful observation on this. Gameplay is now becoming similar to the cutscenes we are used to. Remember how back in the day commercials and print ads used mostly cinemas, not actual gameplay? Now we are coming up on a generation where gameplay will be like those cinemas. We are used to it so it doesnt floor us like the first 3D game or GCI cutscene

My guess is that the segment was most likely filmed a month or two ago when a final name wasn't picked....Otherwise its pretty stupid not to cut that scene and refilm it.
My guess is that the segment was most likely filmed a month or two ago when a final name wasn't picked....Otherwise its pretty stupid not to cut that scene and refilm it.
Perhaps..but you can't honestly tell me that Microsoft and MTV did not know the name of the console a month ago when this segment would have been filmed.

What's up with the mechs in Quake 4?

The Pimp My Xbox segment was weak. They could have fabricated their own custom case and done a lot more with it. I was expecting something that would at least rival the Half-Life and Doom 3 case mods.

And they made Matt Leto look like a freak. Who cares how many polygons are in the models? Knowing that won't help his game.

And it does sound like the Xbox 360 has a case of sequelitis. But this all fits into Microsoft's master plan for console domination. They've stated they want to come out on top this round and they're doing everything within the almighty dollar and the law to do it. They're courting the mainstream market. That's why it was on MTV. That's why familiar names are showing up at launch. That's why they're including the Xbox Live marketplace (women love to shop, am I right?). That's why J Allard dresses like a hustler. Well, maybe not that one, but you see my point.

Whats depressing is there's some moron out there who totally loved the show and is rewatching it now. Whats even worse is he and I will share the same demographic one day (xbox 360 owners) Ugh.

I wasn't going to comment on this seeing as I didn't waste my time watching but after reading this:
I fucking love the fact that you can turn the system on/off with the gamepad.
I thought...

Player 2: "HAHAHA that makes 65th straight deathmatch loss to me and this is about to be 66!"
Player 1:"Bitch!"
System: *click*.......
Player 2: *punches player 1*

Was there ONE game, even ONE that anybody liked enough theyd go out and buy it and a 360 tomorrow if they could? You have to rule out the "new and hot tech" allure. From JUST a "I blow $400 on this and one game even if nobody else could know I had it"

Boy, that was a lame-ass special. Nothing but a crappy band and pseudo-celebs trying to get a free console.

And when will the fucking companies learn that gamers want to see GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE, NOT IN-GAME CINEMAS! With cinemas, you can create CGI, etc. that rivals Hollywood blockbusters. We want to see the gameplay, the bulk of the game.

Those are 30 minutes I could have used to read a good book, or play Xbox Live... or take a good, long crap. Now, those 30 minutes are gone forever. Excuse me while I go sob... :(

in a word.. no

not touching this thing with a 10 ft. pole..

It looks just like the xbox but with wireless controllers out of the box..wtf? This console is going to be purely for fanboys

I don't understand what people are pissed about. It was a 360 unveiling, not a 360 convention. The point of the show was to reveal the system design and a few tidbits, and it did. The game discussion is saved for E3.
how about:
Approved, with minimal change to boot my vote:

Microsoft sells out, casual gamers now a majority, 360 is the gamer apocalypse

that might be too long

I dont see any must have game for the Xbox 360 to be quite honest. Also, has the question of backwards compadibility has been answered?

I see your point. I'm just hoping that we get all the info that we want/need before it's too late to pre-order. Then again, maybe there's no need to pre-order and I could just buy one when they come out.

Agh, who the hell knows? I'm not going to worry about this. I'm going to enjoy my current Xbox, like I should have been doing during this special.
