The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.

Would some people mind posting some of their... er... "pre"-finds at some of the stores that are closing? I.E., what they have in stock at the moment? Because I really want to drive out to a few places to hit them up for 30% off, but I don't want the games to be ridiculously mediocre. >_>; So... Like... What are some of the BETTER games you saw? That would be extremely helpful to a lot of CAGs here, I would say. :D

I saw DMC4 and Popcap collection vol.1. Master of Illusion, Harvest Moon cute, and a bunch of garbage not worth it.
Except when their nearest store has closed and the next nearest is an hour drive away. Then ordering off a web-site is far more efficient.
A swing and a miss. :bouncy:

Didn't one of the GC employees already say that all recent releases are being shipped off and that it will mostly be selling off older/used/budget games?

In any case, you're getting a little ahead of yourself. It'd be hard for anyone who doesn't work for GC to say what will be there on Saturday. Many of the stores are still packing up the stuff to send off, so I don't see anyone being able to help with this right now.

Unless somone who works for GC knows what will be around, you probably won't get a good answer until Friday at the earliest.

++++++++++++TO ALL GAME CRAZY PRE-ORDER PEOPLE+++++++++++++++

If you have a pre-order at a Game Crazy connected to a Hollywood, and that Game Crazy is closing, you HAVE OPTIONS! Communication may be bad on this because, trust me, most of the employees getting let go don't really care about you, but ask them and they can offer you the following.

YOU CAN PUT YOUR CREDIT ON A GIFTCARD AND TAKE IT OVER TO +HOLLYWOOD VIDEO+ AND GET YOUR GAME DELIVERED TO THAT HOLLYWOOD VIDEO! NO DRIVING 30 MILES REQUIRED!

You do have to pay-off the game though, you can't have $5 or whatever, gotta pay it all off in advance within 10 days of the title's release date.

So, no worries on pre-orders. AND if you have "tons" of credit that you don't want to drive to use - PAY OFF SOME GAMES AT HOLLYWOOD and you'll be fine. :)
Which stores in the Denver Metro Area are closing?
9 out of 15 are closing.

Sable
Tower
Arapahoe

Are all closing for sure.

West Florida is staying open, and possibly 88th & Wads.

That's all I know for certain.

See Joe, thats the part that the GC employee failed to clarify to me. Thanks for making that more clear for me seeing how that employee probably could care less what happens to a customers preorder. Which is a shame, cause there are good employees like you and Scorch who is still helpful even though your store is closing. Its a damn shame really. But it still sort of sucks that my GC trade in credit can't be converted to Hollywood video Gift Card too since the GC practically already unshelved the majority of everything there when I got there. Or is there a way around that too? Please tell me there is T___T

Regarding pre-orders and store credit/cash deposits:

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition pre-orders will open up again and will be pre-orderable at all non-liquidation Game Crazys and Hollywood Videos until Sunday, October 11th.

Pre-orders may now be done at Hollywood Video, but require the deposit to be paid in full.

Automated calls should be sent out to anybody who has money on their account in the form of store credit, pre-order deposits, or cash deposits. All credit or money on the account will be put on a gift card, but the customer must come into the store to receiver the gift card. Also, all credit or money that will be turned into a gift card will be rounded up to the nearest dollar. $10.50 becomes $11, $20.01 becomes $21.

There is also a phone number for anyone who has questions or concerns regarding trade credit, cash deposits, store closings, or whatever. The number is 1-877-244-6684 and is available 7 days a week, 8 am to 8 pm PST.

Solid about the pre-orders, but I still don't like the GCs shipping their decent stock. Smart for them, but it ruins the opportunity of a store(s) closing down.

I'm glad my local (well, about 15 miles away) store isn't closing. I'm rather glad, because the first assistant there is really cool, probably the best gaming employee I've ever dealt with.
The closing stores will still do trades, correct?
From what I can find, yes. They should still accept trade-ins, but I don't really see the benefit of trading into a closing store over one that will stay open (unless it is your closest one).

I know this is a big deal and it sucks for those losing their jobs/losing a local store, but can we make a separate thread for the store closings? This thread is crowded with closing posts already and it's definitely going to get worse once the actual closeouts start. I'm sure it would be fine to keep the discussion in the deals forum, I just think it would be better to keep this thread focused on the Gamecrazy talk related to stores that are still open.

If you read the op, he just said this is temporary, and plus, this is technically still the GC thread, and even though they liquidating inventory, even the closing stores are still selling stuff, so whats the point of making a new thread anyways? Its going to go back to normal as soon as the liquidation is over, and from the info received from multiple employees as far as stock being sent back, and the more or less the few projected weeks of clearancing out stock, this thread will go back to the normal GC thread again. Personally I'm not even sure whats the point of having a separate thread since this one is already so dedicated to the topic. Itd just be spam honestly. I doubt any sale from GC is going to top this current news anyways, unless they decide to start giving out free PS3s, I rather have this as the main topic for the GC thread.

Anyone knows if the GC in PINOLE, CA is closing? i would really like to know so i can camp and get the good deals. I would go myself but it s like 30 minutes driving.

Sorry, but none of what you said makes sense. The liquidation is going to go on for a month. That's 30 days worth of posts that are mostly unnecessary for people who still have an open Gamecrazy. You're right that the closing stores are still going to be selling stuff, but they won't be selling everything. People will undoubtedly be posting their finds from what's leftover at their GC. Now why should everyone have to sift through 30 posts of finds to see if someone mentioned a decent flip at GC? If a separate thread was created, it would obviously only be temporary and anyone interested in the closings could follow that and this thread could go back to it's semi-regular posting schedule.

Instead of talking about making a separate thread, why don't you just actually make a separate thread if you think it is so necessary to have one? Just click on new thread button and make one. It's obvious the op didn't feel the need that there needs to be a separate one, but if you feel the need that there should be a separate one, then make it. And if the mods delete, then that means they don't think its a good idea either. If they don't delete, you got what you wanted, and we can all move on with our lives. :bouncy:

Wow, you're super smart! Actually, I was considering making the thread myself, and I very well may. But I thought it would be best to put the idea out there so everyone could first understand what the issue is and then we could act on it. See, I was thinking that perhaps someone who had more interest/knowledge on the closings would prefer to tackle the thread before I made it. Plus, it would make more sense for the OP of this thread to change the title back to the general Gamecrazy thread before someone goes off making duplicate looking threads. There's no need to be a rogue poster when you can present the idea in this manner first.

Of course, I'm sure you thought of all this before.

The store in Santa Clarita is still open, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few more in LA/Orange County that will remain open as well.

Not sure what you mean - it is the same thing. I get gift card credit at GC, use it at HWV, and vice versa all the time. Just ask them to put it on a gift card for you - then you can use it on the HWV side.
Also, all credit or money that will be turned into a gift card will be rounded up to the nearest dollar. $10.50 becomes $11, $20.01 becomes $21.
Interesting. So, balances of, say, 20 cents should go to $1? I've made trades at 5 or 6 GC stores around here over the years and have always gotten the whole dollar amounts put on gift cards. That means I have sub-$1 balances all over the place. I guess if those stores close I can go pick up $1 gift cards .

Obviously it must be a terrible idea since even the op did not feel the need to make a separate thread or else he would have made one already. So I guess you don't have to worry about making a separate thread anymore and we can just keep posting in this thread about the GameCrazys that are closing down and what loot everyone is scoring at the closings. Thank you for putting everything in to perspective for everybody. It is highly appreciated. See how if we just talk things through we could easily come up with a solution? Good thing we worked it out. Thank you for your hard work.

I don't think earvcunanan has enough time to consider the separate thread notion. I suggested that the op consolidate all our collected data on stores closing and surviving ones. It might be too much data collected too fast over these pages to keep up.

well, I'll take back my comments on Square's civility.

Ugamer - thanks for the info on santa clarita. Geez that one is so far far away. Its just inside the mountains to be still considered LA county.

I guess I can play Q&A before passing out.
holy shit, this is exciting.

I got a question. This is my first time trade in a game in GC, they gave me a gift card, can I use it in stand alone Hollywood video store ? ]

Despite what Squarehard said, YES, you can use it in a hollywood video store.
Scorch: Is it true all new games will be sent back?
I wouldn't say ALL, but the stores that are closing down have gotten their list of stuff to send out, including hardware and newer release games. Stores that aren't closing got a list of $18.99 and under items (as well as some overpriced older games) to send to liquidation stores. I wouldn't say all new games will be sent back, but the most recent releases will be distributed between stores that aren't closing.
I like how they closed stores as fast as they could without telling the public so that we couldn't use our credit. You'd think there were laws against that type of action.
The employees had about as much notice as the public did.. so.. not much of a notice. It's a shitty situation all around.
Would some people mind posting some of their... er... "pre"-finds at some of the stores that are closing? I.E., what they have in stock at the moment? This is a pretty useless idea. More and more product will be shipped out of the stores Thursday and Friday. Each store's inventory varies store to store. It doesn't matter if someone's store has something, yours may not.

and yes, major morgan, several employees have talked about the pull list. I'll say it again:

non-closing stores have been given a list of $18.99/under and older used games to send to stores closing. Stores closing have received a list of hardware and newer games to send to stores that are not closing. Do not expect to go in at the start of this sale and find a slim PS3 or new releases for extremely cheap. It won't happen.

GameCrazy Joe - I've already covered the picking up preorders/paying preorders in full at Hollywood Video thing a few times.

Argh, damnit. I should be getting to bed but you guys are acting all so fucking :whee:-tarded that I need to slap this together:

Q: Can my store credit be put on a gift card?

A: Yes. You can then use that gift card at any Hollywood Video or Movie Gallery location nation wide.

Q: When the 30% off sale starts, what should I expect?

A: You should expect older product. Closing stores have been ordered to ship newer games and systems off to stores that aren't closing and stores that aren't closing have been ordered to ship $18.99 new/cheaper used games to the stores that are starting a liquidation.

Q: I have a preorder at a GC that is closing. What should I do?

A: You have several options. You could use the money that is on that preorder towards something in the store, you can get it put on a giftcard, or you can ride it out. All preorders that come in after the GameCrazy store closes can be picked up at Hollywood Video. You can also preorder at Hollywood Video, but you MUST pay for the item in full.

Q: I have another question that's not listed here. What should I do?

A: The official customer service line is 1-8-Speak-To-Us. Dial that and you will be connected with someone who can help you out with whatever question or situation you may have.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it should have to be him to take on all this work. I just suggested this in hopes that he wouldn't have a problem changing the thread title back to the normal one. if you're hoping it closes then it shouldn't matter to you. I don't see how people wish worse on other people. You are talking about people's jobs here among other things. Put yourself in the other person's (or people's) situation and think about it like that. It's 100 miles from you..why even bother? :p

I apologize if this has already been posted. Lake in the Hills, IL store (next to Hollywood Video) is closing. I wandered in not aware of the GC closings. Manager told me if I wanted anything good I should grab it, as most of their stuff was being sent out to other stores.

They had a sign posted that said they were not accepting trades anymore.

I'm sorry to see GC go, I always had good luck and good service there. A few of the employees have been there for as long as I have been going and are very knowledgeable, which can't be said of some of the other stores in the area.

Unfortunately the GC closing leaves our area almost completely at the mercy of Gamestop for used games, which likely won't help their used prices. Apparently the next closest GC that is staying open is in Racine, WI.

If you state has high sales tax.
Warning, Store credits transferred to GiftCard- you will be charged sales tax when using Gift Card.
There is no tax charged if you are using the store credit to buy Used Games.
Example - Buy Used Batman with MVP for $44.99 reduces $44.99 from your store credit.
If you transfer your store credit into Gift Card and then buy a Used Batman, you will be charged tax.
Example - Buy Used Batman with MVP for $44.99 reduces $44.99 plus tax from your Gift Card. NJ is 7% so $48.14 is reduced.

So if you have a lot of credit and a high tax rate....start using it before the good inventory is all done.

Actually, you'd be able to help out some CAGs this way pretty easily. :D From what I've read, all the items being shipped out need to be sent out by the 2nd. Everything in the store after that is fair game. So if you make trade-ins to a closing Game Crazy store the night of the 2nd (or after, if they will take them) whoever comes across the games you didn't want any more will be able to snag them back for 30% off. :p

I think he's hoping it closes so he can get discounted games. I'm conflicted. I have a GC near me, and I don't want it to close because the people who work there are nice and hook me up with free shit, plus I'm an MVP member and haven't gotten anywhere near my share of disc buffing. On the other hand, I want cheap games.

Spoke to both stores in Sprigfield, MA....Liberty Street GC is staying open...Boston Road GC is closing

It was funny though...when I spoke to the person at the Boston Road store I asked him if the Liberty Street store was staying open (just for a second confirmation) and he said:

"I'm guessing they will be open for another 6 months"

so who knows what is up....

Probably just speculation on his part; however, this was and is a failing company. Nobody can say they didn't see this coming. The other ~400 stores are probably not far behind unless they seriously adapt their business strategy.

That's a god damn lie. My store simply refunded my pre-order back to credit form and applied it to my purchases, thereby retaining the tax-exempt bonus. Do I have to make a purchase at the time in order for them to not credit me back? I really don't want to spend more money at my GC if they could just refund me the money that I put down on a game at their store that is now closing. I have enough credit I have to try and spend already, I don't even want my preorder with them anymore, I just want my money back on my credit card. The girl that helped me out was nice, but extremely unhelpful as far as what to do about my preorders. I mean at least I didn't take the credit yet, so I guess I can try to call my credit card company and see if they can get me a charge back.

Thanks Jodou, I'll let you know how this goes if they refuse to do it again when I go there today. Hopefully they will do it without giving me trouble.

I mean at least I didn't take the credit yet, so I guess I can try to call my credit card company and see if they can get me a charge back.

Thanks Jodou, I'll let you know how this goes if they refuse to do it again when I go there today. Hopefully they will do it without giving me trouble.
Pre-order policies have always stipulated that you can cancel at any time for a refund (of the same type with a valid receipt, else store credit only). It's YOUR money, not theirs to dictate what you can do with it. You should not be forced to accept store credit if you have your receipt, as that's illegal. Since you were smart and paid with a credit card, you have major leverage in the form of a charge back. That's really a last resort if the manager refuses you as well, so be sure to file a complaint with the BBB if you can't get this resolved peacefully.

Wait, gamers worked for CC?

Aaarrrugghhh.... I wish I had known about this before I transferred all my store credit into a gift card :bomb:

It would be a valid argument if A) there wasn't a different stoner kid working at Game Crazy every three days, and B) he was actually doing work and not just playing video games when you walk in.

Dam it, I just became a member of their gamer club and was wondering can I get my $10 back since the stores by me are closing?

Thanks.

I'm guessing this doesn't apply to GameCrazy's attached to Hollywood Videos? Sorry if this has been asked.

Also, does anyone know about the GameCrazy on Katella in Orange, CA? I believe its attached to a Hollywood Video.

Both the Oshkosh and Fond du Lac stores are NOT closing.
Probably just speculation on his part; however, this was and is a failing company. Nobody can say they didn't see this coming. The other ~400 stores are probably not far behind unless they seriously adapt their business strategy.
Here's what they should of done.....CLOSE MORE MOVIE GALLERIES/HOLLYWOOD VIDEOS, and make Game Crazy a store of it's own apart from them. The rental business will be dead soon thanks to internet renting, not Used game sales....I'm going to laugh years from now when the CEO has to announce that his company shuts down for this botch move.
