The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.

DENIED!

And I called it earlier:
Though I could see them pulling the "it must be on that rack to qualify" stunt (since they have a B1G1 rack at my store).
The clerk did just that. He said he really hated "them" for printing the ad that way because it makes it look like they should qualify when, in fact, they don't - only the games on their "B1G1" rack qualify. I tried to argue the flier says games $18.99 and under meaning it should be any at those prices, but when his position was that the flyer was wrong there was not much I could do. At least it made me not feel the least bit bad about having traded two games I got from the $4.99 HWV sale back in to GC (and neither was in good shape).

I was still tempted to pick up the games for $14.99 but knowing there was still the chance I could get them both for that much I held off. I can try another store or that one when someone else is working.

Sucks. I was hoping it was successful?

Did they have to scan a coupon to mark down the games or did they ring up at that price already?

... seriously? Either the clerk doesn't know ANYTHING about his job, or he's a complete douchebag. I mean, how can you argue with "Buy 1 Get 1 Free ALL NEW GAMES $18.99 or less" when it's basically coming STRAIGHT FROM CORPORATE? I mean, if he had said the promo games didn't qualify, that's one thing- but even the games on the shelves? That's bullshit. If he's not the manager (which it really doesn't sound like he is) I would ask to talk with the manager about it, or go some time he's in there. There's a small possibility he's just confused and doesn't want to get in trouble for selling games cheaper than they need to be.

In any case, since nobody else seems to be trying and we've only got two accounts of this (one failure, one success), I suppose this is YMMV until further notice. I'm honestly surprised more people aren't coming back with stories yet... I mean, you can't really beat those games for $7.50 each with the B1G1. >_>;

EDIT: Oh yeah, I meant to ask- did the employee try ringing them both up?

Well, a lot of people picked them up last time. Also, gamecrazy closes at 8pm during the holiday rush. WTF?? I like them and want them to stick around, but they need to fix several of their ways and soon. There hasn't been good deals from them since black friday and for a company trying to stay afloat, they should be going (no pun intended) fucking crazy.

I'm going to try tomorrow for the Pokemon games but they'll be cheaper at BB this monday, so it may not be worth it.

I hope they have a hell of a sale this christmas week. The sooner you guys can get details to us, the better.

He would not even ring them up. This was the manager of the corporate HQ store, by the way, so I pretty much take it to mean this is the official policy and those ringing them up and scanning the B1G1 barcode (and I assume there is one, right?) are doing it wrong - so major YMMV there... And just to be clear, while he said "only the ones on the rack" I think they pretty much had everything out there except these temporarily discounted games.

Now, if the B1G1 is automatic (like it is at Blockbuster when they run that deal on used games $14.99 and under) then I'll try again and just have them rung up. But I still want to know if the B1G1 is a bar code - we need to get that clarified first. But I have a feeling that this guy would have overridden the discount anyway if that happened . So I need to try someone else or a different store, but I may not make it back out there again. It's no big deal. While I'd like extras of those I already have both - just got Wii Music at the GS B2G1 sale for pretty cheap anyway. It would have been nice to have a new copy of that and a second AC for the inevitable day I get a second Wii for the house.

Another YMMV aspect - they were pretty adamant during the BF sale that the two promos ("cheap" games and B1G1) wouldn't stack and back then apparently they didn't. So even if it is working now, I'd think a lot of clerks are "trained" to think they don't and won't scan the code for the B1G1 on those promo games.

I'm going to try tomorrow and if they say it won't work, i'll just say, "then it won't hurt to scan it right?!?!?!?".

I had no problem getting FNR4 and Wii Music although at first I asked and he said he wasn't sure but he rang up 2 Animal Crossing and it wouldn't work because they were priced at $14.90. He said that's how they know to exclude them from the $18.99 promo. But as I was browsing I noticed Wii Music and FNR4 for $14.99 so I asked him to try them and low and behold it worked. So I think YMMV and depends on who's working.

Yeah, I was worried about my store not having any copies, too- but when I went in late last week, they had gotten a shipment of a bunch of the promo games. I'm pretty sure that's standard procedure... And now that I think of it, I remember making a comment to the employee working at that time, "wow, so I guess you could have a good guess of what you're having promotions on if you get a whole bunch of those games at once, right?", to which he casually responded about getting more copies than usual of Metroid Prime Trilogy... o_O; Really, if I were an employee at GC, I would be paying close attention to that kind of stuff. XP

Also, how much are the Pokemon games going to be at BB, just out of curiosity? I didn't see any mention of it in the OP of the BB Weekly Ad thread.

O_O

The corporate HQ manager? Well, shit. I guess you can't get much more official than that. I don't know if I made it clear or not, but I don't know if there's a coupon/barcode to scan or not- I didn't see my employee do anything of the sort, or hear an extra *beep* when he was ringing the two games up... But that doesn't mean there wasn't one. In fact, the fact the clerk wouldn't ring them up could mean he was afraid to, considering the possibility they might ring up the promo correctly- like you said, though, even if that did happen, he could have just overrode the promo, anyway. We really need some clarification on this.

However, the only reason they were so adamant about not stacking the promos with the B1G1- at least with my store- was because 1. It explicitly stated in the ad that they wouldn't stack with it, and 2. the games that were part of the promo ended in a 90 cent value instead of 99 cents, supposedly (according to the manager of my store) indicating they wouldn't stack. The promos going on now are NOT stated in the ad to not stack with the B1G1, and DO end in $14.99.

I really don't know, though- that clerk being the corporate HQ manager is pretty disheartening for the possibility of non-YMMV stacking. I wish everyone the best, and eagerly await confirmation from more people... T_T

Well, just to be clear, it isn't that official. This is store close to GC corporate HQ and he happens to be the manager - he isn't the corporate HQ manager ;). He could still be mixed up. Sutff like this always happens to me: I bet I go in there in 3 days from now and they tell me they could sell them under the B1G1 after all and have been doing it since just after I was there - and of course they are sold out by then. Sometimes getting advance info via CAG is too good of a thing as you are ahead of the curve a bit too much!

I wish I could have typed my message one minute faster. >_>; Yeah- maybe that 90 cent thing really is the determining factor. Looking at my receipt now, it actually shows up as Wii Music being the $14.99 game, and Animal Crossing being the free game... So there are a few possibilities:

1. $14.99 is game-specific.
2. $14.99 pricing is YMMV.
3. If an employee rings up another 99 cent game before it, it'll qualify for the promotion since the 90 cent one will automatically be the cheaper one- and, therefore, your free one.
4. Everything is simply YMMV.

Once again, waiting for more confirmation- but it's good to hear it worked for someone else. ^_^

Haha! That last statement is too true. :p And it's good to hear he isn't the corporate HQ manager. XD Me and my quick assumptions...

At least we've got another account for it now- a semi-successful account. XP

Quit being a douche. He was doing his job. The barcode we scan says "does not apply to games on sale"

And yes, it works if you get the employee to ring it up.. but if he's got any desire to keep his job, he won't.

Also, gamecrazy closes at 8pm during the holiday rush. WTF?? I like them and want them to stick around, but they need to fix several of their ways and soon

There's not enough money to keep employees in the store for extended periods of time. GC just closed a massive amount of its stores. They're cutting costs any way they can.

Really, if I were an employee at GC, I would be paying close attention to that kind of stuff.

Then you'd be running into a lot of false leads. They shipped us a ton of copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy because they were happy that we finally moved a few copies when they were on sale for $24.99 a few weeks back.

The .90 and .99 thing is absolutely 100% true. The sale prices were an oversight this time around, though. The bar code says that it's not valid on games on sale, only regularly priced games. Look, it boils down to this - if you want to have it done, ask if it can be done. If the employee does it, cool. If not, don't be a douche about it, just say okay thanks and leave.

Jackie Chandler, you read way the fuck too much into these things. No, they're not supposed to stack. Yes, the coupon works if you try it. Yes, the employee will likely get in trouble over it if they do it. One lazy employee doesn't stand for the entire company. Just go, try your luck, and see what happens.

Also, earvcunanan.. Resident Evil 5 is no longer on sale. Prototype hasn't been on sale since the beginning of the month. You gotta keep up with this stuff, man.

And please take off the "Includes Fight Night Round 4" etcetcetc. Jackie jumped the gun again. Yes, they're priced at $xx.99 instead of $xx.90, but the official word is that they are not supposed to apply to the B1G1F.

Thanks, Scorch - so if that is official policy I won't feel like I'm the only one getting denied. Though I have a feeling a lot of CAGs will get the 2-fer deal... I had someone tell me off CAG that they got several copies of those games via B1G1. Annoying ;).

It also makes it less likely I'll even bother to try at other stores. I mean, the next closest GC is a 16 mile round trip and I'm not sure I want to waste that time/effort for a low likelihood of success.

io - you already bought all your kids christmas presents? it must be hard being your kid if they keep getting video games all year long. i imagine when christmas comes along and they open their gifts; oh wow, another video game...

Wait, what? I never said that. In fact we still need to get several things. But you hit the nail on the head - we can't really give them video games because I get pretty much everything all throughout the year anyway. They think of video games for Christmas the same way I used to think about getting clothes for Christmas when I was a kid ;). Last year we gave them all a PS3 as their one big "to share" present and they weren't too excited about that. So this year there's pretty much no gaming items on the list. But the one exception is that cheap Kmart LBP I snagged the other day. Since that one has not been on sale anywhere yet, my one son who loves to play LBP on the PS3 will be fairly surprised - especially as I plan on giving him my PSP to go along with it.

Aw, fuck. I apologize, everyone. #-o

From now on, I'll simply make those kinds of posts as possibilities until other people can confirm. I hope I haven't built up many people's expectations, or made them waste their time... Thanks for confirming, Scorch.

Yeah... As soon as io said he was the manager of his store, I instantly felt like a complete dick for making all those false assumptions. If the barcode you guys scan to apply the B1G1 (so it does exist) says the promo games don't apply, than yeah- I wouldn't want to get my GC employees in trouble by making them try it, either. I was thinking about making another trip back, but if I do, it certainly won't be for the B1G1 promo games.
And yes, it works if you get the employee to ring it up.. but if he's got any desire to keep his job, he won't.
Believe me- if there's one group of people I hope get to keep their jobs in my town, it's the guys who work at Game Crazy. It's one of the few stores I go into without an objective in mind, and just to talk with the guys. If someone got fired over giving me a free $15 game, I would feel like SHIT- and if an employee somewhere else got fired because he took a CAG's word for it, I would feel just as bad. Please, guys- I hope I'm not being selfish by asking this, but please don't push employees into giving you the B1G1 on the promos. If I had known it was against the rules, I would have never taken advantage of it in the first place. Honestly.
There's not enough money to keep employees in the store for extended periods of time. GC just closed a massive amount of its stores. They're cutting costs any way they can.
Exactly- and I'm sure that Pipe Mania fiasco didn't help. That's why I'd appreciate it if CAGs didn't try it.

That's what I figured, and that's why I said I was passing it off as a coincidence. I know if I were working there, I would be that guy opening the boxes thinking, "OH CRAP OH CRAP! 10 copies of _______?! There must be a sale going on soon OMG!" but I wouldn't act on it, and/or come back to CAG saying, "my GC just got a bunch of copies of _______, so expect a sale on it soon."
The .90 and .99 thing is absolutely 100% true. The sale prices were an oversight this time around, though. Yeah... I know I look way too much into these things. It's the best I can do to give... er... "information" to the CAG community until more information or confirmation shows up. My problem with this was that I was building assumptions off two other attempts at the promotions... I'd like to give my ideas and possibilities of how these work to the CAG community until it's known as a fact or not, but not if it builds up people's expectations so much they'll get people into trouble if it's not exactly how I imagined it. Like Scorch said before, guys- if they offer the B1G1 to you with the promotions, then great. If you they it's not part of the promotion, please don't push it. Imagine if you were in their position- a customer who seems to know what he's talking about comes into your store, telling you what applies for the promotion and what doesn't. If you try and tell him you know what applies and doesn't, you're risking losing a customer, but if you take a chance and give him the free game, you're risking losing your job. Please don't put people in these kinds of positions, guys.

Maybe I'm looking too much into this, though. >_>; What it boils down to: I'm sorry for building up expectations on false assumptions and my experience with the matter, and would appreciate if CAGs didn't push this onto GC employees. Thanks for the info, Scorch- I'll let you take the wheel when it comes to handling this kind of information from now on.

Holy fucking Christmas grinch, Batman! IO is a great guy. Don't worry about what he does for his kids. No need to tear into his parenting style.

Jackie - No problem, man. I'm glad you aren't hostile like everyone else here would be in this situation.

Regarding the whole customer trying to tell me what to do.. I mean, it doesn't offend me, but it doesn't make me feel great. I won't lie and say that a customer hasn't educated me before. I've had a few days off and came back and the customer pointed something out to me that I was unaware of, such as a sale price or whatever, and I was like "Oh! I apologize, I'll fix that" and give them whatever they want. It's embarrassing to me when I don't know the sale promos.

I guess the bottom line is to try it, if it doesn't work, don't push it.

And besides, you guys should be saving your money for the B2G1F next week. :)

Yeah, I don't mean to "gang up" on the guy, but my parents have kind of been like io, from what I can tell. I would get games here and there throughout the year- maybe one every month and a half or so- but then when Christmas rolled around, it was like, "HOLY SHIT which one am I going to play first?" I'm sure there are many CAGs who feel that way with their current backlogs... ;)
Jackie - No problem, man. I'm glad you aren't hostile like everyone else here would be in this situation.
Why would I want to be hostile? >_>; I mean, I was wrong about the promotion stacking being company policy. What's there to argue? I know what you're talking about, though... There have been some STUPID arguments on CAG... XD

I think everyone who works in retail feels the same way about the promos, Scorch. I mean, people come in with some WEIRD coupons where I work, but I can enter the coupon code, and it usually seems to work out fine. It's nothing to be embarrassed about, though- I mean, the CAG community kind of proves that not all businesses know about every single promotion they run. XP

christmas grinch? bah humbug!

i bet you were the only one offended. like most things on the web, tone , jest and nuances don't translate well. I teased IO about it a few times already. In fact, when I younger, I wish I my parent gave out that many video games. Continuing the ripping analogy, I wasn't tearing into his value as a parent or parenting skills. And why would I be sending him/kids a chrismtas present? (IO - you were not supposed to hear that one).

Well this might not be on topic but my gamecrazy has the PS1/PS2 memory card adapters for ps3 (Sony Brand) for $4.99 was wondering if this is a YMMV or national in preparation of my Hannah Montana Lilac Psp bundle I got I also bought a psp to car radio turner for $6.99 and it seems that it works really well theres not much static to it (my friend tried it with his black psp 3000) just thought to point this out now round 2 Fight!!!

The last I checked, the adapters were $14.99.. but the last time I checked was a long, long time ago.
I would get games here and there throughout the year- maybe one every month and a half or so- but then when Christmas rolled around, it was like, "HOLY SHIT which one am I going to play first?" I'm sure there are many CAGs who feel that way with their current backlogs... ;)
I've NEVER had such a huge backlog of games as I did this year (thanks to CAG of course:D). It's sort of daunting. Out of the 60+ games I own, there's around 20 or so that I haven't played yet. Good thing that my Christmas break is over a month long, now I can get around to playing them finally.

Since GameCrazy is running the $18.99 B1G1 Free deal, I was wondering if anyone knows how much Heavenly Sword or any other cheap PS3 games are worth grabbing there? I already have/played many of the major exclusive games (Resistance 1 + 2, Killzone 2, MGS4, Uncharted 1 + 2, Warhawk, Valkyria Chronicles, Infamous), but I was hoping maybe there were a few I've missed.

Any suggestions on what I should nab with this deal for my PS3? Just got it in November so I'm looking to grab all the great exclusives I might've missed. Thanks!

Man, I went to try and pick up a couple copies of MUA because of the 2 for $5 deal. I must have went through 20 copies of that game and all of them were scratched, pitted, cracked and otherwise looked unplayable.

There is the following deal on http://www.gamecrazy.com/other/promotions.aspx

Bundles That Save You a Bundle!

* Used DS Lite & any 2 used DS games $99.99
* Used PS2 & any 2 used PS2 games $49.99.
* Used Xbox 360 & any 2 used Xbox 360 games $159.99.

Do you know what they mean by Used Xbox 360? What I mean is do they take in the system separate from the hard drive that the model in this deal would be just the arcade? Also I know it says ANY 2 used games but does that really mean that? Seems a little too good to be true, seeing as I could get 2 used games that trade in for $30 each in store credit and walk out with MW2 and a used console for $160+tax.

Thanks for all of your work.

Just got back from a different GameCrazy. Managed to find one copy of MUA in decent shape, no others though. Threw in Prey to make the deal.

Also, I traded in Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite (PSP). Got $13.20 w/ MVP.

I didn't notice until I got home that the guy added in the "gameguard" thing for $1, didn't even bother to ask me if I wanted it or not. It's a 20 minute drive, not worth the gas. Still, kind of a pissy thing to do.

The $159.99 is assuming you pick up a core model. There are different pricing structures for different models (for example, I think the deal is $199.99 if you pick up a used 20GB). There is no limit to the used game.. if they have it in stock, it applies to the deal. There's no limitation to the pricing structure for the used game to apply to the deal.

I sold a used X360 core yesterday with used copy of Assassin's Creed 2 and a used Halo 3 ODST to the guy for $159.99 + tax.. he was extremely happy.

Thanks Scorch for getting back to me so quickly. WOW that is an amazing deal!

Lets Tap Wii is $4 trade, Saints Row 2 PS3 is $10 trade, Fairytale Fights PS3 is a $16 trade, all without MVP. Also, picked up the closeout PS3 PS2/PS1 memory card reader for $5. However, there is not a copy of Super Mario Bros Wii to be had anywhere in the Allentown area.

took advantage of the buy 2 get 2 free(used) for the PS2/gamecube games.
by luck my gamecrazy had complete PS2 Megaman X collection, 2 complete Gamecube Megaman X Collection and a almost brand new Final fantasy X.

i also took advantage of the b2g1used got Uncharted 2, and 2 Brutal Legends( gonna trade all 3 into amazon cause i wanted to convert my credit!)

Hey scorch, how come when i bought my games, the dude said he couldnt apply my MVP aka get like uncharted 2 for $40, and Brutal legends for $35 vs their regular price. he told me "i cant stack the MVP with the promo or else itll just give me one or the other" i didnt argue with him but it irked mecause ya know i pay for MVP for a reason.. lol
I think the second post states that sometimes MVP will not work with GC's own promos and sales.
oh ok, kinda lame :p
thanks for the answer didnt realize it was in the OP!
still a good deal regardless!

I got F.E.A.R. II: Project Origin, Viking: Battle for Asgard, and Bioshock (all 360). with the Buy 2 get 1 free used.

I also got F.E.A.R., F.E.A.R. Files, and Call of Duty: World @ War (all 360)with that. (F.E.A.R. was free).

Then I got Lair, and Project Sylpheed in the Buy 1 get 1 free on 'new' games $18.99 or less.

I also got Devil May Cry 4(360), and Motor Storm Pacific Rim with a 30% off coupon I got in e-mail.

Yep. My shelves are chock full of crap now.

Well I picked up Fallout 3 and MLB 09: The Show and traded them into Game Crazy for 12 dollars each. I ended up picking up Fight Night Round 4 and Turning Point Special Edition with that credit plus 95 cents. On another note, the store that i go to regularly now had a new transfer from Game Crazy come in today. I asked to look at it, and hopefully if they have everything in the system tomorrow, I may be picking up Street Fighter IV, Mercs 2, and Gears of War.

Had a good time with with B2G2:

For @ $40 I got:
-JP Operation Genesis
-Ultimate Alliance 2
-Ar Tonelico II(complete with all the goodies)
-Growlanser

Not too shabby I suppose. I also picked up some good deals on the $8.99 games, might go back later and see if I can pick up some of the B1G1 $18.99 deals.

That said, I gotta gripe about something. I had a bunch of old PS2 games that I decided to trade in, but it turns out I was only able to trade about half of them because the clerk didn't like the quality of the discs(you can call my opinion biased but the scuffs and scratches weren't too bad and they ALL played fine). Now, I'm sure you guys have seen the quality of the stuff that gets transfered over from Hollywood Video before(the clerk had to resurface my JP OG game)... double standard much?
