Server Move: Intermittent outages/problems over the next few days

[quote name='CaseyRyback']I cleared my cookies and nothing changed. I may try the other things later.[/QUOTE]

from the command line, try

Code:
ipconfig /flushdns

Were there any IP address changes? Maybe the DNS entry is screwy on CR's DNS server.

Is anyone else having problems with cookies? I keep getting logged off the site when I click on random links (new threads, forums, etc.) I've tried clearing cookies, turning off firewall and stuff but I'm having no luck.

I cant seen to see half of the avitars till I click on peoples profiles, and some links go to web page expired, but when I go back and click it again it's fine. Can't tell if it's me or the site.

I've noticed that most of the avatars are fine but a few don't display properly. Nowhere near half for me.

Also- on the front page link to forum discussions for GameFly and Frappr are broken. Is this a server issue?

How about updating the OP? Most of the problems listed are fixed....

hmmm...

cheapyD.com isn't working at my work

but weird my work filters are letting me through to cheapassgamers.com
must be the extra S added for savings that's letting me through :)

I also keep getting logged out every 30 sec it seems

Same here, and I'm using IE.

Some problems I've been having since the move to the new server:

1) Probably nothing that can be done about this but this site runs much, much slower than before on my computer. I'm stuck on dial-up so everything is slow for me but CAG used to be one of the faster sites before the move. Now it's as slow to load as IGN and I've even got the avatars and sig's turned off.

2) Everytime I visit this site I have to retype my name and password. It used to remember me before the move to the new server.

3) I had my homepage set to the video game deals board before the move. Now when I go to that board and I display the address, it just says "cheapassgamer.com" and just takes me to the CAG homepage if I copy/paste it. I can't get the address to copy to my personal home page.

Any help would be welcome.

I am having the same problem as others...being logged off between vists and even while switching between different forums and not seeing a lot avatars. I tried clearing cookies, history, etc.....no luck!

Hmm, if I reload the page a few times I can see the missing avatars. After reloading a few more times, they go back to being 'Blah's Avatar'

[quote name='munch']No. it happened repeatedly over a 45-60 minute period and there is no way i would have continued to double-click that many times (i've never done it before). I just gave up trying to post. Again, wasn't a big deal, and it might have just been me.[/QUOTE]
Okay, this seems to be happening to me now. That 45 second message comes up everytime I post, regardless of whether I've posted in the last 45 seconds or not.

I'm having the same problem as Trakan at times as well as not being able to go to a link that I click on. Also, my post seem to be going through, but not reloading me to the next/same page/thread. Very annoying.

Any form of Cheapassgamer doesnt work for me on AOL. :( I tried cheapyd.com......cheapassgamers.com......and cheapassgamer.com and none work. So sad.

It seems like links that I click (direct links to posts or the new posts button at the top) only seem to work half of the time. After I click something a few times, then it works for whatever reason. Weird.

[quote name='CheapyMom']Someone want to post this at Gametour.com? Neocisico and Radjago have posted there. I sent them PMs thinking they would get it by e-mail but then I realized that's not how PMing works.[/QUOTE]

No prob. Posted.

Every now and then (i'd say about twice a day), I'll refresh the main page and get a completely blank white page except for a little snippet of HTML code. It's always different, and it's always less than 50 characters. This time, it was:
-- thread ratings form here -->
Get what I mean? It was a completely blank white page with standard text (looks like notepad).

still working on bug fixes..we had some htaccess directive problems that are now getting solved...this might fix some of those bad links you guys have been getting

I don't want to jinx it but everything seems to be working great for me now. Thanks are due to Defender and anyone else who's been keeping CAG up and, now, zipping merrily along.

Just happened again.

Got:

It's not like a huge inconvenience or anything. It happens twice a day roughly, and then you just refresh again and it's fine. It's just weird that it happens at all.

I believe once Apache and Mysql are optimized for the CAG heavy usage all will be fine. This site requires a good amount of overhead and currently Apache and Mysql are running default settings. Connections, memory usage, and some other things will greatly improve the server. The server is dual processor and we have not even activated it yet.

It's nice to see without optimization the server is doing very well. It's encouraging.

Thanks for the help and comments guys. I am sure we have some more work to do but I hope the outages are over.

[quote name='javeryh']I keep getting an error message about posting once every 45 seconds...[/QUOTE]

Yeah, every time I post (quick or otherwise) the post will go through but it'll just sit there and not do anything. I was getting alot of 45 second messages because I didn't think it had posted.

Same here.

GetDaily and/or GetNew seem to be broken for me. I hit them and it just gives me a "Page cannot be displayed" error, then I refresh and it tells me I have 14 seconds to wait before I can search again, so I wait, page error again, etc...

*edit - Now the searches go instantly to "Wait 15 seconds" even if I haven't hit it previously.

Same here. Every time I post it gives me the "45 second" Error, but my post is posted anyway.

yeah - I get a 404 page every time I post now - damn annoying

Is there gonna be anyway I'm gonna be able to visit CAG with AOL? Like I said before I tried cheapassgamer.com, cheapassgamers.com, and cheapyd.com and nothing worked and it came up as a Cpanel page. I hate using a seperate broswer just to CAG.

I think it issue is with the page refresh.

Normally, when you post, the page being shown shifts to the thread being posted in, at the new post.

Right now, the post goes through, and the refresh into the thread with the new post doesn't happen. If you click the submit again, you get the warning about the same post coming up, because it did go through the first time.

If you click to the link in the thread at the top of the page, it shows the post.

I get that when I try to edit or make a post, which sucks to have to back out to the thread to see if it went through.

EDIT: Just like it did when I posted this.

Don't know if it's been posted, but I have to click on the "last post" and "first new post" buttons about ten times before they do anything. If I try to open them in a new tab I usually get a blank page.

Yeah, I'm noticing these problems as well. Can't catch a break here ;)

I've let defender know, so hopefully this stuff will be taken care of soon.

Here's some new info:

When I've tried to do deletes of posts, I get the "Invalid thread" message, like it's trying to do the delete twice. It does the delete, though it doesn't refresh on-screen (the current posting problem), and it returns that error message.

When I've tried to do thread moves, I get the "This thread already exists where you're moving it to" message, and above, it seems like it's doing it twice. Again, as above, it does the thread move, and it returns the error message.

I guess the errors I've gotten with Safari today aren't as bad as the 404 errors but they're similar. If you need to delete or merge the thread I made on the topic fine by me.

Now what's happening is every time I hit submit it goes to a generic IE "The page cannot be displayed" page, and when I go back to the thread, my post was posted.

I'm having the same problem. Plus I can't do any searches. Everytime I press "Egotrip" it tells me I have to wait 15 seconds to do another search even though I haven't done a first one.

OK let me know if you are having this issue now since I restarted apache and mysql. I think Apache seems to be the culprit on most of these issues.

I just made two posts, and they behaved normally, so that at least is done.

Also the post deletion, thread move and thread deletion issues seem to be fixed.
