I actually liked the timed combat. The combat in SH:C is much improved though. I actually enjoyed getting into battles there. I should've guessed you wouldn't like the combat system when you say you didn't like Legend of Dragoon as it was somewhat similar (timing needed).

timing? compared to legend of the dragoon the timing is a joke. It's not that it's the fact that I have to pay attention to every random battle and even short battles take a minute, it bores me.

That's where we differ. I abhorred FF style button mashing battle systems. Breath of Fire (one of your favorite RPGs?) bored me to death on the GBA, I put it down after 5 hours.
I wanted a battle system that required my attention. It was also challenging to hit the three strike zones. That kept me coming back.

By the time it goes up in value (if it ever does) chances are, I won't need the measly $50-$100 it might get me on Ebay. Games are a bad investment.

I got mine the other day. wasn't expecting it, since Buy.com's inventory status is wonky to say the last [I've had one order in 'Sent to Warehouse' status for over a year.]
I then promptly stuck it on Half.com for an inordinate amount : )
I'm playing two or three Rpg's right now and don't want to start another one yet, so I haven't opened SH yet. If it sells, it sells, if it doesn't, I'll play it when I'm caught up.
Reading back on some of these old posts:
