SingStar PS3 - General Discussion & Info - SingStar Dance now available ...
I bought Volume 2 today. I'll post what I think about it once I play it.
It's the same as vol.1, just different songs
;)

So true. I'm not sure if I'll get Vol. 2, there is only a handful of songs I like on the disc. I'll just stick to DLC for now, as there is usually a song or two I like each time.
It's unknown yet. I heard late this year. It's patch for SingStar period, no matter which version you have you'll be able to play PS2 singstars regardless of which model PS3 you have. I'm presuming the trophy patch will be included (hope).
Do you have a link to this info? I was about to dump my 80's game that is sealed but will keep it if this is the case... is it some weird thing like we have to start with the PS3 version and then inssert the other disc?

Here's the link.

Here's the text :whistle2:

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a quick update on some recent SingStar news. Yesterday we announced that SingStar PS3 Vol. 2 will be coming to the U.S. this October. You can check out the full details on SingStar PS3 Vol.2, as well get the latest on today’s SingStore update at IGN.

Coming out of Leipzig, you may have read about a cool new SingStar PS3 disc swap feature which incorporates the SingStar PS2 library. We wanted to make sure everyone was up to speed on what the disc feature entailed, so here’s the lowdown from the SingStar development team:
SingStar track compatibility across PS2 & PS3 is enabled via the Disc Swap feature.

The feature has previously been available on SingStar games for both PlayStation 2 and PLAYSTATION 3, but for the first time owners of SingStar for PS3 will be able to play songs from PS2 discs in their collection.

While playing a SingStar PS3 disc, at the song select screen, hit the [select] button to swap discs and play the songs from the inserted disc. The songs are not saved to the hard drive.

This is a unique feature for SingStar and makes it possible for fans who have already built up their PS2 SingStar collection to continue enjoying it on PS3. It will be delivered via a free game update later this year and will work with all current SingStar PS3 discs. It will also be included on future SingStar PS3 discs releasing next year.

This new feature will work with all current PS3 system models and does not require a system software update.

Stranded,

Wow thanks, do we know if its incorporated in Vol 2 from the get go?

Looks like a no at this point... well I may hold that disk for a short while, I wouldnt ahve go tmuch from it anyway.

Thanks
It didn't take netcasty long to make a video for SingStar ABBA:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPGcpsVdQZI

Love that song too he sang, which makes me want to buy the game.
How does one get a video capture of a whole song? I thought the game only captured 30 secs or so of video. On second thought, how do we export that Youtubue too?

Are those European only features?
US SingStore Update, November 13th 2008
Ting Tings - Shut Up And Let Me Go
Is this in Singstar US?
Pleeeease tell me it is.

Yes, that is in the US Singstar store. I actually bought all three of their songs. Good thing the updates are crap a lot or else I would've spent so much more money on this game already.
Yes, that is in the US Singstar store. I actually bought all three of their songs. Good thing the updates are crap a lot or else I would've spent so much more money on this game already.
They have THREE FREAKING SONGS?
I need to get less excited, I get errors every time I try to dl the ones I have purchased. I can actually play like 12 of 28 :(
Is this in Singstar US?

The list of songs is here:

The last update didn't have anything that appealed to me outside of one Beach Boys song, but the update before that was too awesome, where I still haven't bought everything I wanted.

Hmmm...I'm kind of tempted to convert to Lips on the 360. Only because that DLC seems to be a little more North-America centric.
I'll probably pick up Lips in the future. For now, I'm going to see how that DLC goes.
I'm sick of all this European mumbo jumbo.
Thanks for the link mana! Saves me having to write out a whole buch of stuff. I added it to the OP instead of that huge list I had and now I'm only updating the latest songs.

This week was a little weak but I think that's mostly because there were so many Vol 1 releases that really it wasn't that big if you own Vol 1.

Also, not sure if people heard, Europe is getting (we might get, no 100% guarantee) a songpack containing Christmas music:
http://uk.playstation.com/games-med...l/item131538/Tis-the-season-to-play-SingStar/

Celine Dion Christmas Eve
Toni Braxton Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Babyface Sleigh Ride
Paul McCartney Wonderful Christmastime
Shakin' Stevens Merry Christmas
I wish they had amazing updates, I want to buy a bunch more.
The problem is that companies like Universal Music Group want more than $1.49, which explains why we do not see them on the SingStar Store (and some already complain $1.49 is too expensive).

Although in my situation, there's already a lot of music I like up in the store, and I'm still far from buying everything I want. But certain artist due to licensing can only be in discs.

We'll see what happens because it starts out at $2 (could cost as much as $5 for all we know) and I've already heard about the game being a buggy mess (plus it will never catch up to the music in the SingStar Store. I won't be surprised if it runs into problems getting music from Sony due to Sony now owning 100% of Sony BMG (compared to the split which allowed for licenses on other platforms)). The only advantage it has on SingStar really is wireless mics, but wireless mics are coming soon after reading this on the SingStar Facebook group:
1. The Draw is open to UK residents aged 16 or over that are members of the SingStar® communities on Facebook or MySpace except employees of the Promoter or Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited, their families, agents or anyone professionally connected with the Promotion.

7. The first sixty (60) entries specifying a preference for PLAYSTATION®3 and the first forty (40) entries specifying a preference for PlayStation® 2 drawn at random from all entries received by the closing date will win a place on a trial testing the new Wireless SingStar® Microphones (the “Microphone Trial”).

If YMCA is true for the U.S. too, I'm going to faint. I love singing that song (and I love the Beach Boys).

I definitely like:

I'll believe it when I see it, but that is one of the better updates in a while. Y.M.C.A. is the type of party song this really need (although I am so sick of that song). Gimme some Outfield though!
You know what we all want, Mana. Besides, the Singstar Swap Disc Update, we want Never Gonna Give You Up. ;)
Is it sad that was the first thought that came to my mind when I saw a Rick Astley song listed?

Also just an fyi, "Your Love" by The Oufield is on Pop Vol.2 for the ps2 in case you ever pick it up Dr.StrangePork.

I really hope (but I doubt it this week), we get the Queen Packs this week. I'd be spending WAY too much money if that was the case, lol.

Oh yeah, the Christmas Pack comes this week, but I'm not too sure it's coming here. If the songs weren't bundled, I'd say 4/5 would likely come.

I definitely think we'll see YMCA, because if SCEA got it licensed for Eyetoy Groove, I think we'll see it.

Since I'm addicted to Karaoke, don't be shocked if I buy Disney Sing It! for no apparent reason one day: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/933/933533p1.html

I'm tempted to sing just by the trailer, lol

EDIT: Due to the Holiday (Update usually comes to Europe on Thursday), I expect we won't get updated until next week.

I know the music in Disney Sing It! isn't the cartoon stuff, but it's still catchy to sing too IMO.

if the only reason they can't get better songs is because they only want to charge $1.49 that is ridiculous. I wouldn't mind paying $2 or $2.50 for a song. I think my girlfriend is going to buy me lips for christmas and I am more than happy to pay 160 points for a song. For me if I am having fun and going to sing the song over and over then I don't mind paying a little extra. I would probably pay $10 for beatles songs but we all know that will never happen.

Universal was the only studio totally against supporting blu-ray (Paramount only went HD-DVD exclusive because they were paid heavy), and only went blu-ray when HD-DVD died. The main artist people are wondering about, are indeed Universal property, and the administrator of the Facebook SingStar group has admitted they've been trying to license for Universal Music Group songs on the SingStar Store for the longest time, and still have no luck with them.

However, that game probably won't have Sony Music Entertainment music since Sony now owns the entire company as a download (IMO, Sony > Universal). People complain $1.49 is STILL too much (and Sony is still trying to stand by that price). Also, I don't expect that game will come close to the size of SingStar updates.

If it were just music Sony was licensing, things would be a lot easier. Getting the music + video, that's what makes it tricky.

New patch for Singstar was released yesterday. 2.22. I have looked around and foudn that this does NOT include the ps2 disc swap.

Release(http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message?board.id=717&thread.id=8254
Today sees the unveiling of an update to SingStar Online, which will include a new look and feel for the frontpage and catalogue plus improved search functionality.$

Version 2.22 of SingStar on PS3 will also be available today. Included in this game update will be a further enhancement to online searching along with some improvements in audio latency for some television set-ups.$

You may experience temporary outages when trying to connect to SingStar Online today, whilst the SingStar team carry out the upgrades. Sorry for any inconvenience but we'll be back up and running very soon.
------------------------

I have heard there is a little big planet theme and christmas pack coming, however it was delayed in the US because of thanksgiving??? Hopefully we get it next week?

StrandedBrit, you should bring back the big list of every song. it is such a pain to search through their online store. It was nice to have every song in one big list.

To let everyone know, I finally found out why there's a hold-up on getting Queen Songs in the SingStar Store. According to someone at GAF (who is familiar with who is owned by what record company in regions), Queen is owned by Hollywood Records in the U.S. (which is no problem to license), but owned by Universal Music Group in Canada (and they are the ones who still refuse to license music to the SingStar Store). So when they come, they will most likely be U.S. only.

That's the main reason why not every song makes it over from other countries. Many of them have a different record label between regions, where their distributor in the U.K. may approve, but not their distributor in the U.S.

And those who might have wondered why not every song from the PS2 versions are dumped into the store (part of that is UMG):
- Why aren’t all the songs from the PS2 discs available for download on the PS3 SingStore yet?
This is something we’re working on. We have had to re-process all of the tracks for PlayStation 3 and this in turn means we have to start a brand new clearance procedure. We are, however, ready to release them to the store as soon as each track has been cleared for use. As soon as each track is approved we’ll have them in the store as quickly as we can.
From SingStar group on Facebook.

I almost don't really care about ps2 disc swap functionality. I would love for just more and more DLC. I hate swapping discs anyways. Queen would be pretty awesome to have, but in general just more and more DLC. If you read the latest SingStar ABBA review on IGN they are just pissed that it is a disc and is not DLC. Like you said Mana some stuff needs to be disc because of labels and stuff, but it is go time on DLC, even if it is old PS2 stuff, it is still new to me.

I think that it is a nice feature to have for sure. And don't get me wrong I am glad they have PS3 disc swapping, but I would prefer to put in 1 disc and have all my songs just like in RockBand. Just makes everything so much easier in my mind, especially when you are having a bunch of people over.

The PS Blog updated today with a post by Aaron Orsak.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/02/singstar-updates/

We’ve been listening to your feedback over the last few months and wanted to let you know that we will be adding 60+ songs to the North American SingStore over the next few months. We’ll be sure to keep you all posted as we begin rolling out new songs to the SingStore. In the meantime, here’s a highlight of songs to appear in the coming weeks:
 • UB40 – ‘Red Red Wine’
 • Billy Joel – ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’
 • Chumbawamba- ‘Tubthumping’
 • David Bowie- ‘Let’s Dance’
 • Pink – ‘Get the Party Started’
 • Queen- ‘The Show Must Go On
Those songs he mentioned, all except for Let's Dance were exclusive to the U.K. SingStore.

Just in time for the holidays we will also be releasing a Christmas song pack to the SingStore in mid-December featuring popular Christmas carols from top artists such as Toni Braxton, Celine Dion and Paul McCartney. The pack will be available for $6.99 and will include the following tracks:
 • Toni Braxton – ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas’
 • Babyface – ‘Sleigh Ride’
 • Shakin’ Stevens – ‘Merry Christmas’
 • Paul McCartney – “Wonderful Christmastime’
 • Celine Dion – ‘Christmas Eve’
That's the Christmas pack Europe got. The bad news is that some songs don't have music videos.

For all you SingStar fans with an extensive PS2 SingStar Library, a free game update will be made available by Christmas which will let you play your existing PS2 SingStar titles on your PS3. The new feature will work with all current PS3 systems and will not require a system software update. Just note, this feature is only compatible with SingStar discs.

Thank you all very much for your support and feedback. We’re committed to improving the North American SingStore and will keep you posted with new releases and updates.
PS2 update and other things.

Good to hear the update should be done by Christmas.

Do I buy "The Show Must Go On" now, or wait to see if the previously mentioned Queen packs come Stateside?

"We Didn't Start the Fire" will definitely be purchased, if only so I can do my Dwight Schrute impression.

PS Blog was updated with more music
 • New Order- ‘Blue Monday 88′
 • Men at Work - ‘Down Under’
 • Starship - ‘We Built This City’

Thanks for the update, Mana. I'll only be picking up "We Didn't Start the Fire" since it's the only song I love that is not on disc yet.

I really hope they don't live by their words of "by Christmas" and release it on Christmas day (Thursday). I've been waiting too long for the BC feature. :whistle2:(

I just knew the update wasn't going to come until the last PS2 SingStar SKUs have been released (since they have to get them working before the patch goes live, and they can't test the discs until they are finished).

I wonder if I'll be able to buy singles from the Christmas Pack (I only want Wonderful Christmas Time, the others aren't that great. I'm a little underwhelmed with this Christmas pack. Bad selections and a meagre discount of only $0.50 rather than just buying singles for $1.50 each.

I'm glad to see that SingStar still has some PR left to support it a tiny bit. Although I'm not too happy that a few of the highlighted upcoming SingStar songs are just songs from PS2 discs that I already paid for. I'm really hoping that PS2 disc swap patch is effective. Don't let us down yet again SingStar!

I haven't touched this game in months so I've decided to add it to my tradelist.

If anyone here is looking for a copy (with the 2 mics), please CML.

SingStore has updated with good and bad news.

Good news is that some songs finally crossed over to the U.S. Bad news is that many songs went MIA this week, but do not worry because the Christmas pack is still coming in mid December (along with many other songs, SCEA is in the process of getting everything else from Europe over).

This comes from Tntnnbltn @ GAF
Songs from this week's Euro update
Anberlin - "A Day Late"
Anberlin - "Paper Thin Hymn"
Boys Like Girls - "The Great Escape"
Jimmy Barnes - "Working Class Man"
The Outfield - "Your Love"
Rick Astley - "Together Forever"
The Swingers - "Counting The Beat"

Songs from older Euro updates
Billy Joel - "We Didn't Start The Fire"
Blur - "The Universal"
The Darkness - "I Believe In A Thing Called Love"
New Order - "Blue Monday 88"
Pink - "Just Like A Pill"
Ultravox - "Vienna"

The bad news which probably has many disappointed for now has to do with YMCA being missing. It appears (and I didn't know this) that the license in North America is being held by Casablanca Records and PolyGram (Tntnnbltn at GAF did the research). Both of the two are owned by Universal Music Group, and we all know Universal Music Group does NOT have a single song in the SingStore (but does on the discs. Warner, Sony, EMI, etc. have licensed to the SingStore). Outside of NA, YMCA is distributed by Scorpio Music, who UMG does NOT own.

Some artist owned by UMG (so don't expect them in the SingStore anytime soon, until they agree to release a license in the store:
UMG's record labels have many of the world's best selling artists including Wisin Y Yandel, Def Leppard, The Killers, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Anberlin, Fall Out Boy, Enrique Iglesias, Juanes, Bon Jovi, Queens of the Stone Age, Falco, Elton John, Eminem, Tupac Shakur, Guns N' Roses, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Marilyn Manson, Akon, Reba McEntire, Sheena Easton, Nas, Diana Ross, Barry White, Luciano Pavarotti, Rammstein, U2, the Black Eyed Peas, Nelly Furtado, ABBA, Wu-Tang Clan, George Strait, Gwen Stefani, Soulja Boy Tell Em, Maroon 5, Keane, Tokio Hotel, Elisa, Grace Jones, The Mars Volta, Rihanna, The All-American Rejects, Kanye West, and more

Also, we will be getting SingStore updates again next week or so (with other songs crossing over like Queen).

I really hope we get Rick Astley - "Never Gonna Give You Up" sometime, since I want to sing that. :D

Oh yeah, LBP wallpaper is up on the SingStore for $1.49.

EDIT: I had a chance to see pictures to the new SingStar wireless microphones (on the SingStar World forums). They look pretty cool, but I won't post the picture here (not sure if the picture should be posted on the net).

I'm pretty sure once I get Lips for Channukah I'm never touching this game again.
The DLC only has like 7 songs, and I would kill for most of them.

Does the singstar now have The Darkness - "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" in the US??????? or is this next weeks update?

Damn, is there a reason why UMG won't put songs on the singstar store? I would surely like to buy a lot of those. These updates are getting real annoying with not much to get.
I was browsing people's videos online and I thought I saw somebody using a wireless mic, didn't see a cord or anything and could clearly hear them sing. Are the mics already available in Europe?
