SingStar PS3 - General Discussion & Info - SingStar Dance now available ...

I understand where you're coming from and I agree with you on these updates. I wouldn't say LIPS is already better after only a couple of months, but we'll see, and competition is always a good thing, hopefully it'll make singstar release better music for download.

My biggest frustration is that of the 30 or so songs that I've purchased, only around 15 have actually made it to the game. Every time I try to download the others there are always errors.
It also helps that LIPS has a lot more modern stuff that appeals to me. It helps being a lot younger for LIPS. I guess Singstar has more of an 80's appeal or something like that, but these updates are pathetic.
North America != Europe.
Really!

My random opinions = SUPER SRS BUZINESS

Most people that actually follow what I've said in this thread would know why I'm very frustrated with Singstar.
what you should do is make a blog post explaining your 'frustrations' and then when people over react to random opinions you can just link to it rather than explaining over and over again.

A link proving about SingStar Queen
http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3if1ab0d527dddd2e9f569425b360b4c1f
Sony Computer Entertainment, EMI Music, EMI Music Publishing and Queen's management have joined forces to create "SingStar Queen," the latest artist-specific game in Sony's karaoke series "SingStar."

The game will be available on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, with respective track-listings of 20 and 25 songs by the U.K. rock veterans, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions" and "I Want to Break Free."

It will be released on March 13 in the U.K. and March 18 for remaining territories using the PAL color-encoding system. A release date for territories using the NTSC code, such as the U.S., is yet to be confirmed.

Further tracks will be available to download from PlayStation Network's SingStore for $1.49 in the U.S. (prices vary depending on territory).

"The Queen catalog is undoubtedly one of the jewels in EMI Music Publishing's crown, and we're delighted that we've been able to help bring their music to the 'SingStar' platform," said EMI Music Publishing U.K. president Guy Moot in a statement. "Video games are an increasingly important part of our business now, and I hope that these fantastic songs help introduce yet another generation to the incredible music written by one of Britain's greatest ever bands."

Rafael McDonnell, EMI Music VP, brand partnerships, licensing and synchronization for Europe, added: "We're always looking to work with partners who can help us introduce our artists' music to consumers in new and exciting ways. 'SingStar' is a great, fun way for fans to interact with their Queen favorites as well as bringing the band's fantastic and seminal catalogue to a new audience."

It is the second time Sony has created a dedicated single-artist version of "SingStar," having released "SingStar ABBA" in September last year (Billboard.biz, Sept. 10).

The tracklist confirmed here:
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/be-a-singstar-queen-tracklist-revealed/

Damn it, now if they bring the ps3 version I'll have to get it for the extra songs. On the otherhand, fuck Sony if they don't bring the ps3 version and our ps2 one doesn't contain Killer Queen.
so..where can i import the ps3 version from for singstar queen?
If demand is large enough, NCSX will bring in the very, very occasional European title. I remember buying Shenmue II DC from them, and they've done it since then. So there...maybe.

so excited about the Queen disc. hopefully we'll get the PS3 version, but most of the songs i'm dying to get are in the list of 20 that will be available either way. i really want Killer Queen, but it's not a dealbreaker. A Kind of Magic and Radio Ga Ga would be nice to have as well. hopefully they bring both versions to the States.

a followup to the audio issues i was complaining about last week...i changed my receiver to output a stereo signal, not the autodetect 5.1 signal, and it sounded better, but i'll have to play it a little more to make sure that the sound quality was actually improved. we'll see.

When I had a chance to see the SingStar Volume 4 disc tracklist (this is for Europe in April, we will always be one volume behind. Also, the music will be different between regions except for some songs), I can confirm that it has Robbie Williams - Angels, Chris Brown - With You, Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer, The Killers - Human, P!nk - So What!, etc.

Here's the "update" for this week. :wall::wall::wall::wall:

Di-Rect - Cool Without You
E-Type and the Poodles - Line of Fire
Gavin DeGraw - I Don't Wanna Be
Jamelia - See It In A Boy's Eyes
Kirsty MacColl - A New England
MGMT - Electric Feel
Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten
Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
Suede - Film Star
Suede - Lazy

I am glad we got Scorpions though. From what I heard, around half the songs didn't make it over in the last update (due to most songs this time being owned by a different record labels). Like I said before (and my entire UMG explanation), the fixed low pricing has really come to bite the SingStore really hard, which is why we see no UMG, no big artists, and no current hits. That is why there is currently a campaign going on at the SingStar World forums (along with others) to let the team know they are willing to go to variable pricing (that can go up to a higher price) to get the artists they want. With a songpack or disc, they can get better artists because they can give some artists more share than another, but $1.49 is just too cheap for most. Also with European currency dropping (GBP and Euro), it now costs more money to license music from the U.S. (which explains why most recent updates are now more European/Australian artists, compared to mid last year where we saw a decent number of U.S. artists. This is a comparison between 1 USD and various other currencies).
December 2007:
Australia: $2.11
Europe: $2.14
Britain: $2.00

May 2008:
Australia: $2.30
Europe: $2.30
Britain: $1.92

September 2008:
Australia: $2.01
Europe: $2.12
Britain: $1.77

January 2009:
Australia: $1.64
Europe: $1.97
Britain: $1.44
Thanks to Tntnnbltn doing this for me using FXHistory

But as far as variable pricing is concerned, let's just say the SingStar fans are mixed. Most are more than willing to do it, but there is a group of very vocal people who complain the price is already too much, and refuse to have any sort of variable pricing (or higher pricing). I will let everyone know when the petition circulates.

Anyway, the next thing I wanted to post was there will be a new SingStar Update soon, 2.4.
Hi all,

Further to feedback about some issues with the disc swapping feature in SingStar on PS3, the SingStar Team have today released version 2.40 of the game. The fixes included in this update are:

* You can now quit the game when using a PS2 disc.
* You can now quit the game when using the SingStar ABBA disc, when an ABBA wallpaper is selected, and a disc swap is done.
* The PS2 disc swap now works with PS2 SingStar 80s Sweden and Benelux
* PS2 discs can now be played if their region doesn't match the region of the PS3 disc and the region of the console.
http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message?board.id=SingStar&thread.id=347

Who knows if the update makes SingStar Country work, because right now it does not from what I heard. But does the new update mean I can now import SingStar Disney and SingStar R&B, playing them on my PS3 and them working??? That would be so awesome.

I don't NOT recommend importing PS2 discs until some others confirm the news. Also, if you are curious what tracks are on every SingStar game, check here:

:whistle2:# What!

What BS.

And yes, allowing PS2 Singstars from every region to work would be nice.

So if this patch some through for the US, how are we going to get games from the UK? I just tried finding one that would ship SingStar Queen (forgot ps3 games are region free!) to the USA and couldn't find any that would ship here.

SB, you in here? We might need the hook up on about 50 SingStar Disneys.

Also, I could probably work out some deals since I have a TON of PSN friends from Europe. If they found a way to import from the U.S., then we could import through them.

We will see one of two scenarios it seems in the U.S. for Queen songs (on PS3) I'm thinking. We'll see every single one in the SingStore (which Europe will get also. Some are songpacks while the rest is individual), or we'll just get the entire disc. It works out to be about the same. Personally I'd just take the disc so I could bring it to friends PS3 consoles. But I'm just waiting for an official SCEA announcement, which has yet to come.

So found this site http://www.cdwow.us/ decided to take my chances and put down a pre-order on SingStar Queen ps3 since its only $26.99 with free shipping. Figure, worst case scenario is I get charged and never get it, then have to go through my credit card company. Best case, I get the game which will most likely cost $40 if we get a ps3 version in the US, and 5 more songs than the ps2 US version will most likely have.

From freeky's link

Meanwhile the brand-new Voice Control function only compatible with PLAYSTATION3 available with SingStar: Pop Edition means you won’t need to worry about picking up your PLAYSTATION3 controller as you sing along. Simply speak into your Wireless SingStar Microphones and announce which track you want to sing next - and it will appear on your screen! Plus you can even shop and search through your SingStore Carousel using your voice! Being a SingStar’s never been so much fun…

very cool.

Most people that actually follow what I've said in this thread would know why I'm very frustrated with Singstar.
I don't see this as serious business, I just think you have a shitty opinion. That's why I didn't bother reading you last PM, and it's not our fault you have problems with Singstar and it works fine for us. Have fun uploading and watching other peoples' videos in Lips, because that's the future, and it's one feature Lips doesn't have, besides the feature where it doesn't suck.

So the 2.40 patch is a bust. You CAN NOT use foreign ps2 discs. Multiple people have confirmed it on the official singstar board.

Apparently they fixed an issue where if you start a UK ps3 disc in your USA ps3 and wanted to swap from the UK ps3 disc to USA ps2 disc it wouldn't let you. Now you can.

So there was a miscommunication somewhere when that original announcement was released about being able to swap out any region ps2 game.

So this means we can still play the Disney Singstar game? 'Cause I has to get into that 'Circle of Life' joint. ;)

No, you can NOT play other region ps2 games in your ps3. Disney is UK only, so that's a no go.

Here's someone's post from the SingStar Forum
2.40 patch is a slight improvement.
SingStar ABBA no longer crashes the PS3 when quitting the game.

Also the main difference?

I have a USA PS3.
Prior to 2.40 patch, when starting the USA PS3 with a UK PS3 SingStar, I could not swap in any PS2 SingStars.

Now with the 2.40 patch, when starting the USA PS3 with a UK SingStar:
1. I can now swap in US PS2 SingStars
2. I still cannot swap in UK PS2 SingStars

Nothing has changed with starting a USA PS3 with a USA PS3 SingStar.
1. I still can swap in USA PS2 SingStars
2. I still cannot swap in UK PS2 SingStars

With the 2.40 patch the rule is now:
1. You can still swap in any PS3 SingStar
2. You can now swap in PS2 SingStars matching the region of the console (it no longer matters which region PS3 SingStar you started with)

Is there a reason why SCEA hasn't released the game here? Are there some sort of licensing issues that would prevent it from releasing in America?

Yes. And since you said that, expect the obligatory TMK post detailing it in about 3000 words.

Hey I just picked up this game and was wondering if there were any free tracks available? I feel like they should give out like one track every other month like Rock band and Guitar Hero, or is that asking too much? I've been browsing through the store, but my god it's slow compared to the aforementioned games...

freaking a man.. i've been meaning to come in here and ask if I could swap SSDisney but man.. it's like a kick to the balls. I may still import it if i can figure out how to mod my PS2 but man... that just sucks.

I just picked this up today at Target on the cheap.

Is there a FAQ anywhere? I'm interested to see if any of the PS2 singstar discs work. I thought I vaguely remember them patching this to allow that?

Also, if I buy a song from the online store, what exactly does that include? This is my first experience with singstar, so I don't know what to expect...

All PS2 Singstars work except Country. Country is hit and miss, from what I heard it works on some PS3s, the songs play slow on others, and won't even load on others.

When you buy a song it includes the song and the video, it's the same thing as the songs on the disc.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/02/27/singstore-update-britney-mgmt-vanilla-ice/
Good news for all you Britney Spears fans! A Britney Spears song pack has been added to the North American SingStore featuring five chart-topping hits from her ten-year career. Currently available for $6.99, the song pack includes the following tracks:

Britney Spears - coming to SingStar

* (You Drive Me) Crazy
* Born To Make You Happy
* I Love Rock n’ Roll
* Oops! I Did It Again
* Stronger

In addition to the Britney Spears song pack, 18 new songs have been added to the SingStore. Here’s a highlight of songs that went live in the recent update:

* MGMT – ‘Youth’
* Vanilla Ice – ‘Ice Ice Baby’
* Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder – ‘Ebony & Ivory’
* Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris – ‘Dance Wiv Me’

We’ve got a lot in the pipeline for the SingStar franchise in the months ahead. Please stay tuned for new releases and updates in the coming weeks.
OMG Britney Spears pack in the SingStore. Awesome news nonetheless. :D

Downloaded the Britney Spears pack b/c gf wanted some new songs.

Luckily, I used my free PSN Card to buy it since only 3 songs interested us.

"I Love Rock N' Roll" is a travesty of a cover and I never even heard of "Born to Make You Happy."

I didn't try it before, but it seems 2.4 fixed the Singstar Country problem.

And man, I wish I could copy songs off the disc to the hard drive. :bomb:
I realize people could copy songs from a rental, but they could just have random "Please Re-Validate your songs" checks to prevent things like that.

I'm guessing there was an update this week .... and here it is. 17 new songs.

Ari Koivunen - Hear My Call
Coldplay - The Hardest Part
Coldplay - The Scientist
D-A-D - Bad Craziness
D-A-D - Laugh N A Half
Dandy Warhols, The - Bohemian Like You
Duran Duran - Girls On Film
Elvira Nikolaisen - Sweet Sweet
Leona Lewis - Run
Martina McBride - Broken Wing
Minor Majority - Dancing In The Backyard
Minor Majority - Supergirl
Natasha Bedingfield - Pocketful of Sunshine
Richard Hawley - Valentine
Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child
Sanne Salomonsen - You've Never Been Loved Before
Simon Mathew - All Night Long

thanks. the UK disc will work on my US PS3? i don't want to spend $30 on it and have it not work.

also, is that CDWow place reputable? i've never even heard of it, let alone bought anything there.

I placed a preorder on SingStar Queen from them and received an email this week saying it should ship on the 20th. I'll update then if I receive a shipping confirmation. If it turns out well, I'll probably preorder Pop Ps3 from them too.
