Sony Computer Entertainment, EMI Music, EMI Music Publishing and Queen's management have joined forces to create "SingStar Queen," the latest artist-specific game in Sony's karaoke series "SingStar."
The game will be available on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, with respective track-listings of 20 and 25 songs by the U.K. rock veterans, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions" and "I Want to Break Free."
It will be released on March 13 in the U.K. and March 18 for remaining territories using the PAL color-encoding system. A release date for territories using the NTSC code, such as the U.S., is yet to be confirmed.
Further tracks will be available to download from PlayStation Network's SingStore for $1.49 in the U.S. (prices vary depending on territory).
"The Queen catalog is undoubtedly one of the jewels in EMI Music Publishing's crown, and we're delighted that we've been able to help bring their music to the 'SingStar' platform," said EMI Music Publishing U.K. president Guy Moot in a statement. "Video games are an increasingly important part of our business now, and I hope that these fantastic songs help introduce yet another generation to the incredible music written by one of Britain's greatest ever bands."
Rafael McDonnell, EMI Music VP, brand partnerships, licensing and synchronization for Europe, added: "We're always looking to work with partners who can help us introduce our artists' music to consumers in new and exciting ways. 'SingStar' is a great, fun way for fans to interact with their Queen favorites as well as bringing the band's fantastic and seminal catalogue to a new audience."
It is the second time Sony has created a dedicated single-artist version of "SingStar," having released "SingStar ABBA" in September last year (Billboard.biz, Sept. 10).
