That $500 Mac Mini is looking very tempting.
I really think the big news is the $500 mac. But ultimately I think it'll prove fruitless for Apple. Now, I'm sure it will sell well and they'll give all sorts of numbers about how many units sold. Compared to the established pc industry, it'll be insignifigant.
No one ever points out that Apple was in such bad shape that the Ipod completely dominates their revenue stream. The new mini Imac is a stab to fix Apple computers. But the basic problem is there. There's no reason for me to get one. Absolutely none. Unless I just want a Mac to have a Mac. I know the mac diehards talk about how it's so superior to a PC. I think that's poppycock.
I've used macs at school, they're okay. They're not bad but not better than the invention of buttered toast. I have absolutely no reason to want one. There's no software app unless I'm into publishing or A/V editing. And if I'm into that I'm not spending a measly $500 to $600 bucks.
Apple has found that about 20% of the iPod PC users have switched over to Macs after useing and loveing the iPod. the idea behind the Mac Mini is to help switch over the other 80% of the iPod PC users.
The Mac Mini was not designed or intended for the all ready Mac user, its designed to help people switch.
And your right, unless your doing anything multimedia related (desktop publishing, CD/DVD Development, A/V editing, 3D modeling, Graphic design, ect.) a PC is just as Good as a Mac. minus the fact that the Mac has 1/10 the video game library as the PC.
