So sum it up, was there ANYTHING of interest at the press conferences?

While it's obvious that Nintendo is really only focusing on casual gamers. I have no doubt they are going to have a fantastic 2009. The new MotionPlus addon for the Wiimote looks as though it's really going to change the way we play games.

The fact that this new peripheral will be coming with the new game Wii Sports: Resort doesn't hurt them any either. People are going to eat that up.

Granted Wii Music looks pretty lame. But given that it's going to be really easy to play this is going to mean big sales numbers you can count on it. Mom wants to play instruments with her kids. =)

As far as Sony and M$ go it really just looks like the same ol' same ol'. IMO I felt like saying "Ok..move along...nothing new to see here".

All in all here's hoping that a new Star Wars game (not Star Wars: Clone Wars we already know it won't be compatible) comes out that actually takes advantage of MotionPlus.

I am amused at the people who say they're selling their Wii based on this one conference showing. Was the conference disappointing? Yes, there really is no excuse for that poor performance, but it seems like that the all of the Wii dissenters are just throwing out the baby with the bathwater. We're over a year and a half into the Wii's life, and we've seen some fantastic titles thus far.

It seems to me, a lot of people act like their console of choice is in some sort of personal ego contest, like they have something to prove. Or perhaps, some of you are buying Wiis just to look for an excuse to troll.

Agreed. I can understand being disappointed and upset, hell I am. But to sell your Wii just for this?

I'm not surprised at all. I imagine that like me, a lot of people had no idea why they still had a Wii, but assumed we'd see some big announcements at E3. I mean it was inevitable, given we've had big announcements at EVERY CES/E3 since they started doing them more than 15 years ago...except they didn't throw us ANYTHING. So given that we already know what there is for the next year or so (ie, nothing)... E3 was just the straw that broke the camel's back. It's not like last week they were "oh glorious days, I do so love my Wii!" No, they had dust gathering on it or it was stuck in the closest, just waiting for the big announcements this week.

Hardly. I imagine most of us bought Wiis because we like Nintendo games. Emphasis on GAMES.

And are you actually DEFENDING Nintendo?

No more than anyone is trolling against them.

Is this like where you laugh at someone's clothes, but you're wearing a WHO FARTED? t-shirt?

Shit, let's make this quantitative. How many words are in Blue's post versus all the ones full of rhetoric? I'm willing to bet it is substantially less and yet less full of hyperbole.

One downloadable game of interest I saw at Sony's conference: FAT PRINCESS

It looks so ridiculous it could be awesome.

I sold my Wii, because seriously, I've had it since launch & have put MAYBE 12 hours into it. There really hasn't been anything that appealing to me on it.

The Wii is hardly worth selling... yeah, the conference was fucking awful, but there's always a few games here and there that make it well worth keeping, even if Nintendo is trying to hide their existence.

I think the big feeling of disappointment from this years E3, comes from the change in the way the industry views the event. E3 isn’t the sole place to unveil new franchises anymore; many of the big games have been announced already, so just seeing more info doesn’t strike the same excitement as a brand new announcement. In a way it’s a good thing, to not force major announcements into a once a year event, but I think it’s why this year lacked the usual fireworks.

A few things that stuck out for me:

Developer’s need to wait until a game is almost ready to make announcements, in my opinion if it’s not coming out before the next E3 don’t show it in the press conference. If we have to go through a few E3’s between the announcement and the release, a game is going to lose some momentum. The trailers for games like God of War 3 and Final Fantasy XIII are utterly pointless. Why should gamers care about a CG trailer for a game? If you aren’t ready to show some gameplay, in my opinion you aren’t ready to show the game. Nintendo made some even worse announcements by showing logos/box art for the DS GTA game and the Wii Pokemon game. Why should I care about seeing boxart for a game?

The use of Little Big Planet to showcase the usual boring numbers talk was a brilliant move by Sony. Maybe it’s because I haven’t paid as much attention to all the previous info about the game from the past year, but it really got me excited about the possibilities with the game. It makes me wonder how much more exciting it would have been to gamers if that was the first time we had seen the game, and it was coming out this October.

I appreciate that Microsoft actually had people playing through the games they highlighted. Even though we already knew about the games like Gears of Wars 2, Fallout 3, RE5, I thought they did the best job of giving the end user a feel of the gameplay. In my opinion this is the time to announce a game, when you can really demonstrate what the game has to offer, with the release only a few months away (or even a little farther with RE5).

I was disappointed in what Nintendo showed, but not because of some sense of betrayal to the hardcore gamer. When they first announced Wii Sports Resort I was excited. But I was stunned at what they showed in the press conference. The first thing that came to mind when I heard the name “Wii Sports Resort” was volleyball. In my mind a Wii Sports style volleyball game would have the same instant appeal that tennis had on the original Wii Sports. Also a Frisbee golf game seems natural if they were going to show a Frisbee mini-game. I think these would be both instantly accessible for the casual audience, but appealing to the hardcore (I hate that term) gamers too.

I respectfully disagree. Nintendo's showing may have hurt from their lack of showing what's in development. Miyamoto hinted that they have more projects down the line that weren't ready. We do need something to look forward to. I do agree the God of War 3 reveal was a great example of how not to do it. Also, what Wii Pokemon game? :)

I don't think anyone was expecting the dog and pony show that Nintendo put on yesterday. I agree that they should have shown more of what we are to expect for the rest of '08, but to claim that the Wii owners have been twiddling their thumbs up until now is borderline crazy.

I believe almost anyone knowing the history of Nintendo knows exactly what to expect from the system. If you bought into the system thinking that things would all of a sudden change, maybe you got the wrong system.

And are you actually DEFENDING Nintendo?

How so? I fail to see how the games produced up until now are un-defensible, and in no way did I defend Nintendo's conference showing or the failure of mentioning titles for the latter half of 2008.
I sold my Wii, because seriously, I've had it since launch & have put MAYBE 12 hours into it. There really hasn't been anything that appealing to me on it.
This is kind of my point. The "collecting dust" and "sell my Wii" people generally point to an underlying problem that isn't really the fault of the system. It would be like myself buying a 360, then complaining that there's nothing I want to play when there was nothing that appealed to me in the first place. No one really wants to admit that they are personally to blame, so therefore generally place the blame on the system, which does not really make it fair.

Reason not to sell my Wii?

Madworld and Fatal Frame, that's all.

Other then that I'm going to let the goddamn update light flash as a reminder that it's collecting dust.
Agreed. I can understand being disappointed and upset, hell I am. But to sell your Wii just for this?
Yes. We gamers can only behave in extremes. I backed my car onto my non GH copies of FFVII and FFIX this morning out of disgust for Square Enix and FFXIII for the 360.
Nintendo casually bored us to tears with their new family games. The new Animal Crossing proves what we already knew, that Nintendo doesn't care about gamers.
I don't really understand what you are saying here. You can bag on the rest of the conference all you want (rightfully so), but AC:Wii is a huge title that does, in fact, show that they care somewhat for gamers. Many people have been clamoring for that for a while. I know that it will be the most played game in my house this winter. Or is it simply that AC:Wii was their big announcement (which we already knew was a done deal) and they had nothing else?
I am amused at the people who say they're selling their Wii based on this one conference showing. Was the conference disappointing? I agree. I mean, the people who say there has been nothing since Twilight Princess have really missed out on some good stuff. Metroid 3 was one of my favorite games this gen. And there have been lots of other great games for the Wii. And I say this as someone who plays the 360 far more often. But I don't regret having a Wii for a second and would never consider selling it.

So 1 title that looks way too much like it suffers the Harvest Moon effect (same game) is enough IO?
I was really hoping for more from AC:CF

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE animal crossing (went from 1 to 3 dslites in my house because of that game), however, I thought it was ridiculous that Reggie, when asked by the g4 people "People on our message boards are saying that the hardcore gamer was left out of your press conference, what's your response," He replied, "Left out? How can they feel left out with announcements like Animal Crossing and GTA?"

Now those aren't exact quotes, but you get the point. I do not feel that Animal Crossing, despite its awesomeness, is geared toward the "hardcore" gamer. That's like saying Viva Pinata was geared toward the hardcore gamer. It wasn't, it, along with the animal crossing games, are excellent example of casual games. Casual in the since that it is not difficult to play, that they are visually appealing and suitable for children to watch, and that they are not "stressful." As a gamer, a person that truly LOVES games, I have never felt that animal crossing or viva pinata or harvest moon or the sims were games whose primary target audience included me, however I have enjoyed those games, just as a mother, a tween, or any other "casual" audience member might enjoy the occasional Halo or Zelda.

My biggest problem with Nintendo, and I have always supported them from the Nes on up (and yes that includes the Virtual Boy), is that I've come to the realization that they have never really moved from how they became successful in the first place. They sold the NES as a toy. They are marketing the Wii as a toy. The 360 and PS3 are not toys. I would like to think that, as a community, we have grown from "just playing" to having immersive experiences through gaming. Gaming is not a toy, it is not a film, and it is not a novel. It is a combination that provides us with experiences never before possible. I guess I just want to forget the part about the toy roots and Nintendo is wanting to push that area.
So 1 title that looks way too much like it suffers the Harvest Moon effect (same game) is enough IO?

Well, same here and I posted those thoughts in a more appropriate place (the Wii forum E3 thread). I hope there is more to it than a slight bump in graphics (I do think it looks nice and using the DS method of scrolling vs the old GC one but with sharper graphics of course is nice). Moving a few stores from the town to the new "city" and adding a couple more there is hardly a big change. I was really hoping for some areas you could only access via WFC - places that would change all the time and have new items/fish/bugs/etc that you could not collect in your town. Whether those were multiplayer or not I don't care - just having something new released to keep the game going after the first few months or something. And that's just a minor change (but would extend the game quite a bit). I'm sure they could have thought of lots more big changes that would have made it a better game too.

Regardless, my kids will love it and I'm definitely getting it day one no matter what - which is more than I can say for any partiocular 360 title at this time. Yes, I will get some at release but more often I tend to either just rent them or wait for price drops since they never hold their value like Nintendo games do ;).

And yeah, Reggie's quote was ridiculous. It's not like by "hardcore" they all had to be M rated games. A Pikmin or new Zelda or Starfox or something would have been enough to satisy most Nintendo fans (though the vast majority of CAGs would piss and whine about those too ).
Agreed. I can understand being disappointed and upset, hell I am. But to sell your Wii just for this?
If the thing has become little more than a dust magnet (Like quite a few Wii owners I know) and you don't see anything coming out in the future that interests you, then I see absoultely no problem in people selling it. I do find it insane though that people get actually upset that other individuals would make such a rational decision. That is what doesn't make sense to me.

The biggest news for me was the dashboard update for the 360. I think it looks like crap. But, I suppose I haven't tried it yet either.

Nintendo showed me Animal Crossing, which is fine, but certainly not one of their best franchises. The rest of their show was horrible.

Sony showed me LBP. I don't know how long that will be entertaining, but it's one of the few games I cared about. I missed the MAG stuff, and I haven't ever played a GoW game.

I don't care about Final Fantasy, so Microsoft really only showed me RE5 would have co-op, and showed me some Gears footage. Oh, and the dash I mentioned above.
I haven't ever played a GoW game.
You are missing out my friend. I just recently played through GoW2 (after it went to $10 at CC a little while ago), and it is amazing. I didn't play the first one, though.
I didnt say that they had to release games like Okami or Zack and Wiki but they could give them a game that has enough depth to keep them interested after drawn in. Wii Sports was great.....but if they would have fleshed it out so that it was easy to play but you could also play full games and do more it would have been brilliant without isolating people. Look at Guitar Hero, its amazingly simple and thus draws people in yet there is still a brilliant game there. Nintendo isnt doing this they are offering cheap stupid toys that yes sell well....but people get bored with after a month.
First off, Guitar Hero is available on the Wii and, according to Reggie, is selling quite well. Now with Wii Music, Wiii owners have a choice. A more "fleshed out" music experence with GH, or just tool around with partically no use of skill with Wii Music.

And if a Wii owner was intrigued by say the golf in Wii Sports, but wanted more 'depth' Tiger Woods and Super Swing Golf both build on the Wii Sports Golf mechanic but add layers of complexity. Similarly, if you enjoyed the snowboarding balance game in Wii Fit, you'll soon have the option of a more complex game buliding on that mechanic with Shaun White's game. Drawn in by the shooting mechanics of Link's Crossbow Training? Perhaps you'd like to try it in the gritty environment of Call of Duty. While Nintendo *themselves* didnt make these games, I think they are working well with their partners to make sure that a wide range of skill/complexity options are available to Wii owners.

Both my fiancees family and someone in my family got a Wii last year for Christmas. Within 2 months they switched from playing it fanatically to hardly touching the damn thing. Then along came Wii Fit and again it lasted about 2 weeks or so.....now their bored with it.

So in this particular example, these people didnt buy Super Mario Galaxy, didnt buy Super Smash Brothers Brawl, didnt buy Mario Kart Wii. But did buy Wii Fit. Based on that, what do you think they are more likely to buy in the future. A new Metroid adventure game or Wii Sports Resort?

Nintendo is drawing in new consumers but by offering these half assed games they are risking alienating them in the long run. You can say and believe what you want, but Nintendo is making the next Beanie Baby. Did people want more at the time? Yep. But eventually they realized they were dumping $100s into something that kept them ammused for such a short period of time.

But there is much more on the Wii than "half assed games". I just enumerated several of them. The experiences you suggest are lack are, quite to the contrary, available. And *if* the day comes when people no longer want mini-games, Nintendo will do what any smart company does: ADAPT. Ty didnt go out of business when the Beanie Babies crazed died down. Instead, they started making Spongebob toys. They responed to the market. *Rightnow* the market is telling Nintendo "Bring us more mini-games!"
Edit - And PS its NEVER a good thing to forgot those that built your company and its base. Focusing on these new mainstreme kids is fine and dandy but while they are your tasty tasty butter right now we are the bread that has nourished(sp?) you all these years. By forgetting us Nintendo is just risking having no one to fall back on whenever these kids get tired of Carivale Games and Wii Ware rip offs.

First, I dont think Nintendo has "forgotten" their core fans. The core fans like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid....the Wii has games of all these franchises. I dont think that Nintendo has doubled up on these franchises any generation since the NES days (save Prime 1 & 2 on gc..but there was no 64metroid). And in any case, it's always several years between iterations. The Mario sports line is in effect with Strikers and the upcoming Sluggers (which I might add is sure to be a more 'fleshed out' version of Wii Sports Baseball ;)). I really dont know what else a "core Nintendo Fan" is looking for. *shrugs*

Not that that maters anyway, because Nintendo is never again going to rely on its "core fans" as a business. They are going to continue to chase "casual fans"....even if the casual fans tastes change, Nintendo will just change with them. Core fans kept the company afloat...but adrift in 3rd place. Casual fans bought Nintendo a powerboat that they piloted into 1st place. Who does Nintendo "owe" more?

As for the notion of "My Wii has been collecting dust" I agree with one of the other posters with the sentiment that you "dust collectors" bought the wrong system. "Collecting Dust' implies you weren't playing Wii Fit, Brawl, or Kart Wii (1st party). "Collecting dust" means you passed on Boom Blox, Blast Works, and No More Heroes (3rd party). "Collecting dust" states that LostWinds, Final Fantasy Crystal Chornicles: My Life as King, and Toki Toki didnt interest you at all (WiiWare).

These are games that are generally accepted as "good" (all 'green' metacritc ratings), only available on Wii, and all came out this year. There is a great variety in the games, but these are the type of games the system was made for. If you want Halo, God of War, or GTA, you should have looked elsewhere.

Viva Pinata isn't remotely casual. It's a game for people who play games. I thought I'd love it but it was too hard for me or at least I couldn't figure it out.

Animal Crossing was cool the FIRST time, when it was on a system with nothing BUT real games. But...it's right on the line of whether it's really even a game or not IMO, and it's a HUGE disappointment when the system had nothing but non-games announced for the next year.

Well, if this is true, then you made a horrible purchase decision when you bought it, and you ought to be happy that you can get rid of it and not lose too much.

Seriously, what did you buy a Wii for if you only played it 12 hours? Heck, I probably got over 12 hours in Wii Sports alone. You have Mario Kart, Twilight Princess, Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, SSBB. These are all the games that you would have bought a Wii for (ignoring such hidden gems as Endless Ocean).

Really, just get rid of it, nothing Nintendo could tell you would make you happy with this purchase.
But when the Wii came out I didn't think nearly all the games would be shovelware/not games (Wii music)
Most of the first party games are good. There are even third party games which are great for the wii, though they aren't as numberous as we had hoped, considering the numbers of consoles sold and the continuing demand.

but if you've only spent a few hours playing the wii because the games on it dont appeal to you, and you've owned it as long as you have, you should have traded the wii in long ago.

As for the suspected trend of nintendo to treat the wii as more of an entertainment console rather than a video game console, this is something that concerns me. If it works for them, that's great, I hope they make oodles of money. But me? I like video games. And that's what I was hoping for.

Is it me, or does it seem that the more successful / rich a company becomes, the more idiotic their E3 appearances seem to be? Before Sony was in any way threatened by Wii's sales numbers, we've had "Giant Enemy Crabs" and whatnot. At the same time, before the Wii was an international hit, we've had good shows, complete with promises of... everything. Now that the tables have turned, and that everyone but the Wii (apparently) has something to lose, the shows have altered to keep with the rule, that the current winner must ensure the image of "smug self-assuring show of the batshit insane." To be fair, though, the smug and self-assuring bits appear to be the extent of the range for most of those PR cats.

Frankly, I felt that Sony's press conference was the only one actually worth watching. It is true that I've been thinking about whether I want a PS3 or a 360 to play Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Brutal Legend on and so far I fail to see how I could say no to a PS3 - I admit bias. However, it seems that Sony's presentation has tripled my interest in PS3 library, though just like some good person before me, I'm psyched as shit about Fat Princess, and whatever the 2D looking game that was in the same montage. But you gotta bear this with me. I'm the idiot who can't enjoy MGS4 and who can not possibly care less about Final Fantasy, whether versus or thirteen. This isn't a flame, mind you, this is the reason I find most of these shows so god damn frustrating.

I find it somewhat ironic that there's more "Nintendoesque" (yep, I said it) content currently coming out from Sony, and I'll be damned if that shit doesn't look gorgeous. I also feel that Microsoft's take on playable game shows, Uno online, and whatever else is directly ripped from Nintendo's aesthetic.... but with a much better online implementation. Complete with extremely familiar footage of xenophobia-free diversity cliques playing games on a couch using "simple controllers that anyone could have fun with" one might wonder how many casual gamers will wander into a videogame store demanding "That Scene It Game for the Wii."

All three companies have bragged endlessly regarding their achievements, mostly, I suppose, for their own feeling of "yay." Perhaps I'm dumb in expecting that Nintendo can talk about the future without mentioning Nintendogs and Brain Age franchises, which have been laced throughout each and every one of their media appearances. And I suppose Sony is capable of talking about playstation without mentioning PlayStation 1 is only a theoretical conjecture. But hey, at least Microsoft said it straight: Music games are the hottest shit right now, we want a slice of the pie, here comes no less than three big-ass-budget music titles. WE ARE CASHING THEM CHECKS.

Total "made me curious" events:
Sony: 2 (Fat Princess, whatever that 2D looking one was)
Nintendo: 0
Microsoft: 0 in terms of games, waning interest to actually check out that LIVE thing.

I'll type up what I think about Wii Music when I'm good and ready. It will not be pretty, though.

nintendo showed
star wars-the clone wars
rayman
shaun white snowboard
guitar hero
wii play resort
animal crossing
wii music

the biggest suprise was when ff13 was announced for 360 and the ps3 is still talking about exclusives. lol.

I thought Sony had the best E3. They showed off a lot of games that were exclusive to the system, which they desperately need to do any chance they get. Microsoft's was also good. I'm looking forward to the new Dashboard, Gears 2, Banjo, Fable 2, and other games. Nintendo didn't have jack shit and was a MAJOR let down. I'm not into Animal Crossing so there is nothing for me. I don't think I'll be buying a Wii anytime soon. Wii Music is one of the dumbest things I have seen. Wouldn't people just buy a Guitar Hero for their music game needs?

I know this wasn't directed at me, and doesn't apply exactly but... the problem is all those games are in the past. Beyond that, the ONLY one of them I like is Galaxy. I never liked Mario Kart or Smash Bros., I *HATE* Metroid Prime 3 (IMO it's not a real Metroid game, just an FPS with terrible control), and I haven't liked a Zelda game since Wind Waker. If I liked all their game games for the Wii I'd at least have those to hang on to while waiting a year for the next E3...

Yeah, I hear that a lot. And I will probably give the PS3 iteration a playthrough.

The problem with that (and other franchises) is that I hate to see a new iteration so damn soon after the previous one. Maybe GoW doesn't fit that mold as well as other Sony franchises. How many Ratchet and Clank games have there been? Jak and Daxter? I haven't played either of those franchsies either, because they just keep pumping them out.

Now, before anyone jumps that statement...I know there hasn't been a Jak game in a while. But still, the first three came out fairly close in succession. Maybe that's why I like Ninty's "one per console" approach to some of their titles.

Xbox 360:

Burn games to your hard drive (though the disc will be required to be in the tray). The system's fans won't have to turn on as games will run off the hard drive so the system will be A LOT quieter and A LOT cooler. And to top that off 30% faster load times.

Netflix and Microsoft have partnered up. Now with any Netflix subscription (the cheapest IIRC is $8.99 a month) you can have unlimited Netflix streamed directly to your Xbox 360 as long as you are a gold member. So for $8.99 you can rent thousands of movies and TV shows and not even have to leave the comfort of your home. This is one of the main factors I am selling my PS3. This will be included in the fall update.

People right now are complaining about Netflix's streaming selection for movies and TV shows but with Netflix's official migration to the Xbox 360 platform you don't think Microsoft is going to push (give money) Netflix to get the latest and greatest out on its service when the fall update reaches?

Fable 2 actually looks really fucking good. The co-op looks to be very well implemented as you can drop directly in and out of your friends single player campaign and go around with them, and they can do the same for you. Besides co-op at the conference the game looked meh but the walk throughs that are swirling around (check gametrailers.com) make the combat out to look very fun. And the game has colors!

Resident Evil 5 looks freaking hawt. The game looks decently polished at this point, we know the gameplay is rock solid, the graphics look amazing, and co-op over Live and hopefully locally (that would be a travesty if they left out local co-op, see Crackdown) looks like the icing on the cake.

We saw footage of Fallout 3 that looked good but kind of underwhelming as it was demo'd as a straight shooter, it isn't a just a shooter. Still could very easily end up winning Game of the Year and it was announced that the Xbox 360 and PC get exclusive content.

The Gears of War 2 demo looked amazing too. The single player mission Cliff Blezinksi :))) showed off looked really, really, really good. Brumak riding is confirmed as well as a new co-op gametype called Horde where up to 5 players can take on 50 waves of increasingly difficult locusts at a time. Bots are also confirmed for multiplayer.

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts looks really good. fuck the haters that whine about vehicles, this game will be solid. Also Banjo Kazooie, the original game from N64 was confirmed for XBLA. As well it was confirmed the XBLA game will have unlockables that will garner you things in Nuts & Bolts.

Portal: Still Alive was confirmed for XBLA. It appears this will be the retail release of Portal from the Orange Box with more missions. Good stuff.

The new dashboard looks good to me. Everyone is crying "OMGZ APPLE COVER FL0W + MIIz= SH!TTY D@ASHBOARD!!!11!". I think it looks like a welcome upgrade, I have had an Xbox 360 since December 2005 and this looks good. Everyone is complaining about avatars too, I like 'em. Sue me.

Rock Band 2 looked really good too. The game will ship with 84 songs, 20 songs will be free downloadable, all RB1 downloaded songs can transfer to RB2, and nearly the entire RB1 setlist will be transferable to RB2 for under $5.

With the fall update you can also download ANYTHING off the Marketplace from your computer. 8 player chat for the fall too.

Continual party system. If 3 of my buddies on XBL and I are playing Ninja Turtles and we decide we want to play Carcassone the host can bring us all right to Carcassone with no one having to go to the dashboard.

Support for 16x10 monitors. Most widescreen PC monitors these days are 16x10 (1680x1050 or 1440x900 resolutions) and lots of 360 gamers hook up their 360 to their PC monitor to play in Hi-def if they can't afford to buy a big fancy television.

Lips, a direct competitior to Singstar. Wireless mics, you can hook up your iPod/Zune and the game will create a singable song for you. I can imagine Rick Roll'd Youtube'd Lips videos now. From the guy who brought us Elite Beat Agents.

Did I get it all?
If the thing has become little more than a dust magnet (Like quite a few Wii owners I know) and you don't see anything coming out in the future that interests you, then I see absoultely no problem in people selling it. I do find it insane though that people get actually upset that other individuals would make such a rational decision. That is what doesn't make sense to me.
Do you really think anybody here would upset if someone else on this board sold their Wii?
You are missing out my friend. I just recently played through GoW2 (after it went to $10 at CC a little while ago), and it is amazing. I didn't play the first one, though.
I don't mean to derail the discussion, but I wanted to ask this for a while... Does anyone other than myself feel that the first GoW was exponentially more awesome than the (technically more advanced) sequel? I thought the first God of War was excellent through and through (gameplay-wise, as well as the storytelling through the stylish cutscenes).

I'll agree with this. I loved the first one and couldn't put it down. The second seemed to missing something. I played a few hours and sent it back to Gamefly. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I also liked the PS2 Rygar (older but very similar from a gameplay standard) a bit better than both.
You're in the same boat I was in earlier in the year. Just get rid of the Wii, you won't miss it one bit. I certainly haven't.

You did the same thing I did and bought it out of past (and dying) love of Nintendo games and probably out of hype over motion controls. I finally realized I don't dig the Nitnendo franchises that much beyond Mario, Metroid and Zelda and those are all as stale as any franchises in the industry. Add in that I hated motion controls and the lack of HD after getting an HDTV and it was just stupid for me to have a Wii around.

Ditch it and spend the money on some 360 games you want to play or a PS3 etc.

Well it was made by a different guy-and Chains of Olympus was a totally different team. I didn't play the sequel and have no real desire to, but I'm not a big fan of the original. I got stuck somewhere in it, and even before that I don't know what the big deal was. They act like it's so original or whatever, but it seemed a lot less fun than Devil May Cry that was doing the same thing (but IMO better) 4 years earlier (and other games were similar years earlier too). Honestly games that play like that feel like they're a dime a dozen, and God of War just didn't do much for me. I liked Onimusha 2 and 3 a lot better too, though they're not AS similar. (And I actually would prefer the GoW theme to the generic "here's some demons" theme those other games have.)

You're probably right. Unfortunately I bought (or "bought") some Virtual Console games, so I've got a bit of money in that (only legal way to own Actraiser or Wonder Boy in Monster World, I think :whistle2:( ). I'm done "buying" anything else on that, but still. Plus I really do love Super Mario Galaxy (which IMO is the ONLY Wii game that's visually impressive-actually benefits from my HDTV!). I can see wanting to play that again in 5 years and being mad at myself if I can't. Plus I ended up selling my N64 back in the day and having to rebuy one.

So...I don't know. I guess there's still a chance the team that did DK: Jungle Beat and Galaxy could be working on something else awesome...although at this rate they could have them working on a new crossword game

For me, Metroid Prime 3 just didn't work at all. I'm confused how they could do such a good job nailing the feel on the first one, and then devolve the third into an FPS with bad control. And Zelda did nothing for me. I rented it and slogged through it for a few days. Wind Waker felt a bit stale I have to admit, but it looked great and the formula worked, but the Wii Zelda looks a lot worse IMO and just feels like a slog. Painful boss fights, confusing what to do half the time (got stuck in some village for ages before I figured out how to trigger the next event, also got stuck early on with the stupid FISHING mini game you have to complete. Had to consult an FAQ, which described how you have to move the Wiimote to beat it, which has nothing at all to do with the motion the game TELLS you to use.)

Not sure what the heck Strell was talking about "you should listen to yourself" or whatever.

Imho Microsoft had the best showing. Something for everyone. The casual crowd has Lips the live primetime games you're in the movies and scene it box office. People like me got to see Gears2 Resident Evil 5 Fallout 3 and Fable 2. Also they let us know that FF13 is going to X360. Sony had a good showing with Reisistance 2 Fat princess and LBP. I still need to see MAG in action to be a believer. Nintendo sucked i know they are in the lead. The casual thing is working for them, but damn all the hardcore crowd gets is Animal Crossing and GTA for ds. I dont really play with the wii anyway so i guess that trend will continue.

Here's a chronological summary of EVERYTHING they did in the Sony and Microsoft press conferences. I didn't do it for Nintendo as they were just too embarrassingly painful to watch again and make a summary of.

Well that's not surprising in the least. Let me break it down for you with hand puppets and bright colors.

You basically said - paraphrased - that you got the Wii for SMG only.

Now I remember why I used to get you and dmaul mixed up.

Really? I see it right up there. Quoted even.

I'll break it down. You more or less said that you dislike - basically - every Nintendo franchise, with the exception of an honest Mario 3D platformer.

Look, I love Mario in the same sense that I appreciate MGS4, but I'm not plunking down whatever atrocious price I'd have to pay just for one game. So that leaves the question of "what else does Sony have that I would enjoy?" Well, Ratchet and Clank is...passable at best. Don't care for Warhawk. Things like Haze and Resistance and Killzone are "eh" at best. Really the only things they've got that I'm looking forward to are quirky games like Fat Princess and Little Big Planet.

Point being that if I paid a good amount for a system and I don't find the games appealing - and I know before I got the system that most of games aren't appealing - then part of the blame is with myself. I will agree that Sony could attempt to make games "more for me" so to speak - either the games themselves are better or they venture out into making more genres appealing to me - but I'm an informed gamer and I ought to know whether or not they are going to do that.

I'm just saying I get this whole "man the Wii is a disappointment" vibe, but when I read someone saying they basically hate all Nintendo franchises, there's a real "well, you should have expected those" sort of reaction.

Really, this generation as a whole becomes a little less exciting by the day.

I see no such thing since I said no such thing.

I'll break it down. You more or less said that you dislike - basically - every Nintendo franchise, with the exception of an honest Mario 3D platformer.

I said no such thing. I don't care about Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. That's not "basically every Nintendo franchise".

Obviously I *didn't* know ahead of time. A poster above summed it up perfectly for how a lot of us are feeling about the Wii. We LIKE Nintendo as a developer, and didn't know Nintendo was going to go off on this...tangent.

I'm just saying I get this whole "man the Wii is a disappointment" vibe, but when I read someone saying they basically hate all Nintendo franchises, there's a real "well, you should have expected those" sort of reaction.

Which I agree with, except I didn't say anything like that.

Really, this generation as a whole becomes a little less exciting by the day.

I think this generation is the most messed up ever. I've never had issues with the designs of the consoles themselves like I do this gen. At least the games are as good or better than ever! :)

Mario Kart, Smash.

And then you said you don't like Metroid and "haven't liked Zelda since Wind Waker."

Those are four of their huge titles.

Case in point: If I liked KOTOR but hated Halo/GTA/Call of Duty, then I'm removing huge bulletpoints in Microsoft's repertoire.

Same with Sony. If all I like is Ico but I hate GT/MGS/R&C, I'm narrowing it down a LOT.

Are you talking to the two people in your sig?

Because then I agree - they need to get on topic. Camus especially - he has the added problem of not being alive.

Not enough of a reason, I say!
And then you said you don't like Metroid and "haven't liked Zelda since Wind Waker."
I love Metroid, I said I hate Metroid Prime 3, and I didn't like Twilight Princess. How would I know that without actually playing them, when I *liked* their predecessors?

Those are four of their huge titles.

Those are two of their franchises, and I didn't like those when I bought my Gamecube either. So again, how would someone like me have known 1.5 years ago that my Wii was just going to sit there, or we'd have a "casual only" E3? I don't think it's reasonable to think we could have know that. Last year's E3 they at least pretended to care about us. This year Reggie's like "we already took care of those 'core gamers', so now it's all casual, baby!" As though releasing any non-casual games in the past somehow satiates us indefinitely (and virtually no one is going to like ALL the non-casual stuff they've released).

Don't make me hurt you.

ARGH!!! I just told you to knock it OFF!!! Strell was goofing around, but at least he got the hint. Posts deleted and infractions sent out. Stop disrupting the thread.

Does it make anyone else sad and feel like all these crap toys are killing miyamotos legacy? I mean if I would have met the guy before I would have seriously been in awe and freaking kissed his ring finger if he asked me to. If I meet him now id be impressed but hardly awed. Its sad how his legacy and the legend of the man that drove our industry is being tarnished.
