SOCOM: Confrontation *General Discussion Thread*
Where woud be the easiest place to flip this piece of crap after I keep the headset?
I'll buy it.

This game is pretty damn sweet. Probably won't buy it day one unless I can find a pile of cash somewhere, but definitely at some point in the near future.

At least they finally explained why people didn't get their codes. I like that they did not send out codes to people who were not eligible.

Lately I have been finding a server with ~50 people, and joining the biggest game in that room. It has worked well for me past couple days

I experienced the timeout X for the first time yesterday night, and it happened constantly. I always thought this was because of peoples poor internet connections - until it happened to me - and I have fiber. I also, for the first time ever with my PS3, had a hard freeze. I had to flip the switch on the back of the PS3 to get it to turn back on. That was rather scary. I am still finding the game loading screen times to be very long. Now though I just join a game, and then go get drinks, a snack, and then browse the internet until I finally join the game.

I expected SOCOM to be more of a tactical shooter where team work was necessary, but it turns out the lone run n'gun with the F90 or HK36, and light armour, will get you to the top of the scoreboard every round.

So I never got my beta code from QORE. I was just wondering, is anyone talking while playing? Cause that's half the appeal when I played in the ps2 days

Most people playing the game have a mic and there is plenty of talking. It is PTT, holding L2. Last night I experienced my first game with no talking and it was eerily quiet. Most games have fun banter, and warnings of enemy sightings. Quite enjoyable and the mics work just fine, unlike WarHawk.

Last night was great. I played for about 4-hours and only experienced one red timeout X, and almost no stuttering from lag. The two games I joined took less than 5-minutes each to get past the loading screen. That is still painful but nothing compared to previous nights. I still picked 20 Round Games with each round lasting as long as possible to avoid the loading screen. The lone ninja with silenced F90/HK5 SD or auto shotgun still rule the scoring boards at the end of every round - but that is just game play.

I would like to know if the improvements were because of server side changes, or if the host had FiOS? The really need to show at the game screen the various ping times to each game. It works in WarHawk - why every company has to do everything completely different is beyond me. Copy the good stuff, avoid the bad.

It was very enjoyable last night - and back to being a game I want to buy.

i completely fucking hate this beta
i spend so much goddamned time just tryign to get into a game its ridiculous.
then i get in and shit fucking freezes. the thing stutters along at 10fps. fucking game sound sporatically stops working thats really fun.
after 30 minutes of frustration between trying to get into a game and then trying to aim while my screen jerks all over i wanna kick go kick my dog.

fuck this beta.
this is the last beta i ever go out of my way to get into.

lol I feel you on the weird framerate and soun thing.. happened to me yesterday. Took me about 15min last night to finally get into a room b/c either I wait and then the game ends so I exit out or can't respawn. odd but when you get a game going.. shit is fun!

The problems Paz describe was me Friday night. Saturday was perfect. I guess I was simply in a game hosted by someone with a very fast ISP (FiOS). Show the ping times Slant Six so we can make informed choices on which games to join - may be even filter the games by ping just like Warhawk.

I don't know how they made this game without a ping filter. My last game went at around 4 FPS. Someone host a server please. I've got decent DSL that can handle 4v4 but someone else could probably run it smoother since my PS3 is wireless.
Lets get a CAG game going then. How bout 8pm EST? We should be able to get 8 players together, right?
I'm in. And whoevers running the clan please invite me. PSN name is miyamotofreak.

Problem is, I cannot send invites because there are too many pending. Regardless the room is available to everyone.

So thats 3 so far. I can get two more. Any others??

Sorry man. Took me 3 attempts to get in and once that happened I got the 10fps and no sound thing. Couldn't tell if I was shooting or what, not that it mattered cos everyone was dancing around me anyway.

Oh well. Call me when the next patch is out.

Same.

Smiggity and I played an entire game of I believe 8 rounds/side w/ demolition (think reverse CTF) Good shit, smiggity you kicked some ass with bombin, got the most I think at the end of the day. Granted it took me a few issues to get started, after getting in and settled everything was great minus the lag. I had a blast though. Still got a few issues that definitely need to be worked on before final release.

I played a lot of Hardcore Search and Destroy on COD4.:D I love this game more and more every time I play it. I hope others at CAG do not judge this game based on the problems of the beta. This game will offer some great competitive gaming...

Yeah demo is a lot of fun.

1 month left, hoping they get the issues cleared up soon.

clan matches FTW

Is there a CAG group that plays? and what night is it? I have been playing the game nightly, albeit after 10 pm (and I still suck at it!). Hopefully someone works out a schedule for all the new games: SOCOM; Wipeout HD; Resistance 2; Fable 2 ;and Gears of War 2 ( :whistle2:$ - yes I know some are on the 360 but I have both consoles so I can buy all the best games and laugh at all the fanboy comments).

However, I'm leaving it up to Nam (SOCOM thread leader for the CAG nights and maybe even a clan leader) and Smiggity (clan leader of at least one clan or main clan, depending upon how many we need). Don't worry, I definitely plan to schedule CAG nights for the games (R2 and SOCOM are the biggest priorities, and other games will fill slots). Warhawk will still go.

I'm definitely buying this near release, but I want someone else to head the CAG nights.

For sure. If I lead the clan we will definitely be having competitive matches and participating in all the official tournaments. That Calendar function is gonna be so dope for the final release.

I won't judge. The times I got a stable game it looked and played sweet. My pre-order still counts.

I forget how many members per clan are allowed, but I doubt we'll need 2 clans for CAG. I'm guessing we'll have enough members for one clan and regulars.. It's one month away, I just hope I don't get tired of playing SOCOM when the game actually releases! lol

well, Clan Support is for up to 64 so there is no need for two clans. I will be surprised if we have more than 20 regulars after the initial hype dies down.

I thought I read 50-people per clan. Regardless, I think you are correct about the active members playing. I suspect with all the games coming out this fall, plus old favourites, 20 CAG members is a reasonable expectation. I can only see needing two clans if one was for serious members - willing to train multiple nights a week, actively compete against other clans, and look for tourneys. The other clan could be for the more social members - schedule one night of fun gaming a week, much like how Warhawk is run right now. I am a social gamer and for me there are too many great games coming out to devote too much time to one game - plus I get bored. Plus I suck so no competitive clan would have me. :D

:(
I still have not received my code to play from Qore, even after emailing customer support.
Looks like you guys are having fun.

Is your PSN account valid? /6 is actually taking this beta seriously.
I only ask because I got my pre-order and Qore invites right away, and the majority of people who didn't get theirs were not eligible for the beta.

as much fun as I'm having w/ SOCOM, I'll prob be in the social SOCOM boat. I'd love to do tourneys and such though if we had that planned I could always free a night for that, but I'm on a busy sched w/ grad school and work so I prob wouldn't be able to devote multiple nights a week to SOCOM. Still don't mind reppin' CAG when I can in games.
But I'm thinking this will be my fall online shooter definately.. I usually want to just stick w/ one.. but who knows, this time of year is crazy for games.

Anyone playing now? Im about to get on...

Just played a bit with a /6 employee. He hit me with a couple headshots

I guess my definition of "competitive gaming" differs from the norm. Screw practice. Practice, we talking about practice yall;) Basically have a social clan match on whatever designated game nights, and maybe one competitive match every week or so. It would NOT be something that would take any dedication. Just instead of playing in public rooms, playing a clan match instead or whatnot.

that sounds good AI lol. I was thinking some really competitive stuff that I could not dedicate that much time into but what you described, that i could/would do.

Smog that game I was in last night was the first time I have no lag, framerate issues, audio issues ..... and it was crack!

I'll definitely be up for Socom night later on this year. Is this game going to come with a tutorial?
