Sony Playstation Home - Gen. Discussion & Info - Open Beta Available Now

Managed to get in after restarting my PS3 and made my person, though some of the hair and facial hair options kind of suck. My new apartment was messy though. "I keep a clean house, bitch."

Got in and saw Rolento briefly. Downloading the echochrome arcade game now. They REALLY need to work on the downloading stream. I'd rather let it download overnight or constantly until it's down.. download as you go sucks

I think Home would be great if you could fight people. Or even just adding a few MMORPG elements and things for people to do as a group, instead of it just being a virtual lounge. I know Sony doesn't want Home to be like a game or anything, but just a few things here and there would've been nice.

I would have tagged along but I was showing a friend from college around. I'm genna try to unlock more namco stuff tonight.

Wondered around the Central area, bowling alley, and mall. It's certainly an interesting experience since I never tried Second Life.

I'm curious to see what Sony has in mind as Home gets fleshed out. I'm personally hoping for live chats/presentations with user participation. And people who get chosen to ask a question get a special download or some other incentive to have people actively engaged in the community.

I may buy a piece of furniture just to support Sony for finally releasing this -- I never thought it would happen.
How do I get to the Namco stuf I downloaded? Go to my Japanese account and log in to Home?
Go to ur Japanese account, download the namco beta in the Japan PSN store, install, play it on ur main account and unlock :) enjoy

Most people are REALLY putting too much into what HOME is supposed to be. The naysayers want home to be some grand fucking amusement park of games and all other sorts of B.S. but NO.. that's not what Home is. Home is simply a place where you go and have conversations with other gamers. Its a 3d Chat room, with some other activities for gamers. You know I like it, I went to Home spoke w/ a guy for a while and gonna play a game of Madden with him.. I enjoyed doing that.

They've done that a bit during the beta. I heard that after Ted Price talked at his R2 event in his designated Home space, he went over to Sucker Punch's area and starting griefing them.

What I wish was Home had different zones for different types of games. Like a sports bar where you can meet other people who play Madden or maybe a fighting area where you can chat with fighting game players. Either way I don't mind what they have, I actually like it. It's free so it's no big deal.

Oh, it's in the app itself and not home?

basically have it set up like forums... but if you think about it, that's the way its going to be when they get some of the game spaces in there... Uncharted bar, talk about uncharted, maybe Capcom will set up a Street Fighter 4 area.

Just somethings I think about Home at this point in time:

1. Your persons movements are VERY slow. The run is HARDLY a run.

2. Not sure if this is a glitch or not, but it is VERY annoying. If you are on your little phone thing while playing a game such as bowling, and another person in your game bowls, it kicks you out of your phone. Go back in, person throws their second ball, kicks you out.

3. $5 to make a club, with possible monthly charges in the future? REALLY? That's just, not even worth talking about. I mean, I can sort of see where Sony is going with charging small amounts of $ for clothes (not buying any, though), but monthly charges for a club? Do you get any GAIN out of that?

Overall, as just a chat room to chat in before playing, it seems fine. Nothing special at the moment, but, maybe that will change.
Oh, it's in the app itself and not home?
Yes, it's an interesting test of using games to unlock content for Home.
Makes for more incentive to unlock/collect.
This is one of the worst things I've ever seen.
I'm going to have to agree with you there.

I tried Home out for about 20 minutes and then promptly deleted it. I dunno, I guess running around doing absolutely nothing, except dancing the running man with 50 other guys that are wearing the exact same clothes as me just isn't my thing.

Oh well. Failed concept. Moving on.

That's too bad, didn't give it a chance to grow.
I got to check out the Uncharted bar.

Gamespaces are the main reason I'm interested in Home.
And I hope unlockables are a standard features in the near future.

This is what I've been saying. I want "inappropriate" actions just for the sake of messing with people. Slapping, farting, picking your nose, more embarassing dance moves, etc. One of the MOST fun things to do in HOME is to just creepily follow behind somebody (works especially well if it's a woman). Start about 5-10 steps away, and just slowly follow them. Most of the time, they'll just run away, but it's still hilarious.

Or just walk up to a random person and start dancing infront of them like a gigolo. This works especially well with the Borat character that I created. I'll make him dance, and then I'll say into my Playstation Eye's mic "I like disco dance!" Again, hilariously entertaining!

HOME = Matrix. Make it happen Sony!!!

Finally got it to run around 7:00 PM yesterday. It's okay, but I don't see many people spending a lot of time there once the initial exploration and curiosity fades. The theater would be cool if it had actual movies maybe once night a week. Like a double feature.

It kinda sucks you can't preview anything. Especially clothes. I'm sure all that will get fixed though. There's not nearly enough furniture yet. I was hoping they'd at least have some LCD TVs for the wall.

Do the times of day ever change? I was kinda hoping to see my house during night time. And where's this bar/cafe with the fish on the wall I keep seeing in screenshots? EDIT: Is it the Uncharted bar mentioned above?

I'm mainly interested in how much Sony is opening this up to publishers. You can run javascript for coding the games, so I expect to see alot of cool stuff. It wouldn't be that hard at all to make an FPS game in home or even better. I really see the open beta as the very tip of the iceberg, it's now just a matter up to sony to really make it shine or not.

If you know javascript, you know how to make something in Home.

oh gawd, I already see people hitting on female avatars. Home looks to be a good vehicle for griefing those fools

and I think their fee system is quite fair considering the whole thing is free.

We had a small discussion at GTA night on Wednesday about all the possible options for actions in home. My personal choice was the "shank" option to go up to someone and just stab them. A man can dream.

Anyway, I've had plenty of fun in home so far. I spent more time screwing around with furniture in my Summer Home than I've spent playing LittleBigPlanet.

OK anyone play that Mercenaries arcade game in the Uncharted bar? I can't get past stage 3.. How do you get over the gap to get the treasure?

Home just has me wondering how awesome a GTA MMO would be. Anyways Home isn't bad but I don't see why it got delayed so long when there is so little to do.

That is seriously the very first thing I experienced when I hit the plaza. A female avatar was talking to two males avatars, saying that "she" would cyber with them.

Ditto!

I've just been running around to groups of people, doing the "boo" action, and running away.
Or I start dancing and when some people join me I sit down and use the dismissive actions, hahaha.

Such stupid fun. :D

I don't don't about you guys, but HOME is actually a lot of fun. I enjoy talking to new people about anything really, and it's a real time killer. Metaly and I were checking out the mall, and just chatting it up. I had a good time tonight. :)
The lack of facial hair options makes me .
Agreed, where hell are the five'o clock shadows Sony? :[

Don't forget about the chatpad adventures, freaky. ;)

I went back to my studio afterward to check if I had any more Namco stuff. It let me put down some Pacman cabinets but I couldn't play them, probably because they're from my Japanese account. Oh well, at least they look sort of cool in the corner.

BUT! I did discover this...
POOKA.jpg

POOKA!! One of my favorite characters of all time, and now he's here. I put a bunch of these around my place. Here we are having a deep discussion.

Not much to do on HOME except talk to some friends on there. Can't wait for the DIESEL DLC. My pad sucks, my friend who has been a BETA tester for a while now has a house about twice the size of the standard Homes. I hear you could buy club houses too. Lots of potential here, but right now I just feel like a sim walking around lol.

I think tomorrow I'm going to run around as a female with "I accept PayPal" above my head.

lol

Anyway, there are A LOT of people on this thing, even at this hour, especially in the Uncharted and Far Cry areas. I got above a 4,000 score on Stage A of Echochrome, so I got those prizes. I still feel my Avatar looks like a 40 year old though.

I just think it needs more stuff right now, especially game areas. I would love to see a Burnout Paradise area where your avatar is actually in another a game of Burnout Paradise as pedestrians as the 8 players mow your asses your down :p
Dumb question, but, how do i get to the uncharted and far cry areas?
start>wold map and you should see from there

Note that the HK beta will work with your US home account. Just FYI. Played a round of pacman launched from within home tonight.

It used the same save file from the JP beta and everything, but the games are actually launchable.

As someone who's had Home from the beginning, it's somewhat nice to see it actually being used. And for those wondering, they haven't added any new Mall content.
NXE was not considered beta phase. Home everywhere says "Open beta". Beta != final. The main goal of the open beta is to get everyone into home, fixing and adding features. Although there was a private beta for a while, even with every person online at once, it still wasn't enough to simulate the open beta (since right now, any PS3 connected online can get into Home). They will be listening to our feedback and working with it. Also, this is a free service to use, not something we paid for (so it's not like we are wasting our money).

The whole point of it is to create a community for the PS3 gamers (along with differentiate itself from the competition, since that's the one big thing PS3 needs to identify itself). For an example, those who may not visit forums much can play bowling/pool and meet people. Also gives people a place to chill every once in a while. It will also make it easy for friends to get together in one place (it's also like a chat room with friends, if you ever want to just chat) and then all jump right into an online game together.

There's no denying it will not be for every single person, but it's definitely a good way to meet people. I mean I saw people, looked at their gamercards, and it gave me an idea what games people play.
I was able to get on after I sent you a PSN message.

Sony could have millions of servers setup for home, but even if they did, it has NOT been tested to deal with just about every PS3 owner, which is why there's an open beta. People who tried gmail and many other services in beta could say, they have issues.
