Sony Playstation Home - Gen. Discussion & Info - Open Beta Available Now

I'm in Hong Kong home. It's kind of barren when I get on though sometimes I'll see groups of people talking.

I wonder how many people are speaking in a language he can't understand?

EDIT: one of my friends is in Home and I sent him a message saying he sucks. And he does!
Cheapy seems to be in Home right now.
Yeah, its ok so far. I know its a beta, but there isn't much to do right now.
It's weird how there are only limited slots for bowling, pool, and arcade games. Since all the pool tables, and bowling lanes were being used, I couldn't play.

I have a sinking feeling the motivating factor for the creation of Home was:

1) to sell us furniture, homes, and other virtual crap
2) to display ads

Quite frankly, I agree. I wasn't able to play some of the games on the arcade machines earlier since it was one to a machine. Sure, that makes it realistic, but I don't really want that much realism. I'd like to be able to go up and play whatever mini-game tickles my fancy at the moment.

don't forget people actually like this form of "gaming". All MMOs I've ever played I've invested more time in my home design than killing monsters... same goes for every game that has similar things that I've played.

Is that really a surprise though? That's what all of these free social gaming/MMO things aim to do by getting you in the door for free and offer you the chance to buy stuff to go beyond the basic service, though Home's promising bigger things like the party system and game-specific areas that may not be around now, but will come in the future.

Did they have the Namco arcade classics machines or just the generic games they had before?

I still think Home will be most useful in gathering gamers together for game nights.

Think of it as something similar to the 360's recently announced 8 person Party system built into the dashboard. Except in Home, you can hold a lot more people in a room, and you can all segment off into whatever games you want to play, launching directly into the game from within Home, then dropping back into Home to hang out after the game (and find other people to play with too).

Honestly, I think Sony would have done a lot better getting this feature working first, releasing it to the public and developers, then adding on external areas.
I was talking to Cheapy since he's probably in the Japanese beta, where the Namco machines are at right now.
My bad, didn't know, couldn't tell.
smiggity: when you and I get in let's throw a party.
For sure. Virtual dancing FTW.

Anyways I think you get a seperate invite for the Namco classic machines. Metaly would know for sure though, I just think thats what he said

I've only had a little look around so far but I've gotta say that I wasn't all that impressed...not sure exactly what I was meant to actually do...I'd rather spend the time playing a game.

Yep, that's a common opinion and a very valid one.

Simple put, Sony should handle Home more like the Xbox Fall dashboard update.

Have home load in behind the XMB when you start up the system, or ditch the XMB and go with an even better UI system. Have Home be mainly each PS3 is its own room, and when you want to gather people together everyone jumps into a room. None of these outside areas that are pointless for most gamers.

As I keep saying the main functionality they should be pushing is:
1. The ability to gather together large numbers of players for game nights in a group outside of a game in Home, then splinter off and play what everyone wants.

2. The ability to customize your Home space on your PS3 via the games you play. Forget microtransactions for digital furniture.

The first point is critical as it offers something that even XBL does not, even with XBL's player party system. Say we had a CAG PS3 game night we could have a lot of us here jump into a room and then go through various games during that night, always coming back to the Home room to chat, all without the hassle in multiple invites. This is a core feature that ties directly into gaming.

Point 2 would encourage people to buy games and get trophies so that, when they guy or rent games the get things to decorate their Home space in, or even new spaces. It also means that there's less need for external servers to host the outdoor home spaces, as people are mainly connecting from one PS3 to another.

At least it seems like it's coming together. Although not as full featured as they promised. If they allowed virtual cosplay, I'm sure everyone would go for it.

The theory is rubbish. He bases it off a random string of numbers for something that's unrelated. There's better places to hint at Home's release date than the code to enter the Uncharted space's secret rooms.

The open beta is on schedule for release in Japan later this month. It'll then end at some point in November when, presumably, the actual real thing will be released.

Sony also announced that twenty four new publishers have signed up to create content for the service. It's a pretty exhaustive list of contributors, despite the lack of Square Enix. There's no indication as to whether they will also be creating content for the US and European. Hopefully we'll hear more of that before the Western release of the service, which should hit around the same time as Japan. The full list of new contributors for Home in Japan is after the break.

I call BS on Bandai Namco for Home because they aren't making PS3 games (NOTE: Fighters don't count).

Square hasn't made a PS3 game yet, so they probably don't know anything about it.

I really dunno about Home.
Sounds like it's just another way for sony to earn money rather than charging you a monthly fee like microsoft does.
Seems rather gimmicky. But hey! Gimmicks are hot at the moment, just look at the Wii.
They're not supporting Home with the Japanese Namco arcade games?
Don't know if you noticed, but I don't live in Japan, and that means I don't get Japanese Namco Arcade games. If I can't play them, they don't exist in my book.

Don't know if you noticed, but the article and list were for the Japanese developer/publisher support of Home.

I'm not sure why you're calling BS on Japanese Home news because you don't live in Japan.

Home's IP region locked isn't it? Meaning I can't play Japanese Bandai Namco games on Japanese Home.

Also, doesn't look like Bandai Namco is happy to bring their dl games to PSN.

Fighters don't count because they're like... not even real video games! And stuff. They'd count if they gave Jin Kazama a chainsaw gun and he ran around shooting Nazis and yelling "HOLY fuck!"

Does anyone know the other keypad codes for Uncharted? I just know the one on the top right is 24312. I tried Google, and came up with nothing.
