SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]
Mine broke a week or so ago, so sucks for me too.
I deleted my post awhile back, but It's funny. My 360 broke THE DAY I got Soul Calibur IV early from Radio Shack. It was a friday afternoon, bought it seeing as how it was on the shelves early, got home and turned on my 360 to a RROD.

Karma baby.

I got RROD saturday but I manage to make it work again, but today I got RROD. I guess I will call xbox and wait a few weeks to be able to play...
In other news, CAD (ugh...) has a new SCIV based comic up:

Infinitely better than the original.

The original is a perfect example of how much CAD sucks. Punch line given away in the second panel, leaving two useless panels hanging awkwardly on the end, way too much dialogue, all presented with extremely dull "artwork".

I agree with Ex~ here. Please watch this video and tell me where there is any indication that Yoda and Darth Vader aren't available together in the same game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T32DB8dBjRI

I really can't think of any other time I've ever seen platform specific characters from the same universe, and that video above is full proof that Namco released marketing materials that show both Yoda and Vader, and that don't at all talk about console exclusive characters. Now of course WE all know they're console exclusive characters, but the above video is proof that some gamers could get a very different impression. We're hardcore, and we follow gaming news, but someone who just sees that on youtube after hearing they're making a new Soul Calibur game, they could EASILY get the impression that they'll be able to play as Yoda and Vader with one purchase.

SC II had console exclusive fighters, but not from the same universe where you'd think they belonged together! I actually can't think of any other time I've seen this, and if Namco ends up selling an unlock for Yoda on PS3, or Vader on 360, rather than a true download of those characters, I'm going to be pissed.

None the less, thankfully this is just a matter of principle for me, and I really couldn't care less about playing as Star Wars characters in a Soul Calibur game.

[edit] And I just saw a flash ad that showed both Vader and Yoda, and didn't mention any specific console or anything about exclusivity. What Namco is doing here is just misleading bullshit, and if you disagree with that then you are wrong.

Is there anyway to make a thread (without it possibly being locked/deleted) or an edit to the OP listing who is getting what version??? I'm getting the PS3 one
waitaminute...so you can give any custom character a lightsaber, right? right???!
Unfortunately I do not believe so.

no

No CAS lightsabers, no CAS force powers, no CAS fighters based on Star Wars characters. No, no, and no.

Hmm... I don't really wanna pick the game up now, but I have money on it, so I guess I will tomorrow. Though I think I'll wait to find out exactly what the fuck is up with the LE before I throw extra money at it. Seriously, why can't Namco just... y'know, tell us what we're buying? I'll prolly be picking up a headset tomorrow as it is, so I'll even be able to voice chat on PSN.
First custom character I plan on making is Dragunov from Tekken DR. after that all original stuff.

oh and if people need to pass time, here's some CAS boobs and ass to look at:

I was trying to find more info on the LE but I ended up just reading NeoGAF's character customization thread. Some interesting details I don't think have been mentioned here:

There is a total of 50 slots to save costumes. Any existing character can have up to 48 costumes on top of their original 2, but this is taken from your total, so if you made 48 different costumes for Ivy, you could only make 2 other costumes or characters.
Sort of sucks. Suddenly that 50-slot limit feels a lot smaller. 50 CAS slots, plus 50 per official character did seem to good to be true, though.

There is a grid where you can set your combination of "physique" and "muscle" (-50 to 50 for both). Physique for men equals muscle size. -50 is a quite scrawny guy, while +50 is Rock. Physique for women equals breast size. -50 is Talim, +50 is Ivy (or maybe slightly larger). Muscle equals muscle definition for both genders but is not very apparent on women. You can't change height.
Just like in real life!

that does suck.

Ign's review is up: 8.7

Interesting quotes:
"Yoda's height makes him an almost ridiculous addition to the ensemble and he's quite possibly the worst thing to happen to Soulcalibur IV. "

"Vader, however, works just fine. He has a few fancy moves here and there but matches with and against him still felt balanced."

"The PS3 and 360 versions are just about identical (barring the differing guest characters), though I felt that the optional install on the PS3 made things feel even quicker and more polished. "

I don't know if this has already been posted, but they did finally confirm Vader/360 and Yoda/PS3 in the teamxbox.com review. I know that the video and stuff was posted, some people said it was hacked or something, but this ends the debate.

http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1545/Soulcalibur-IV/p1/

Much more grandiose news, at least to those with a casual Star Wars appetite, is that the whole Xbox-Yoda, Vader-PS3 exclusivity thing was merely a disc data ploy. Vader will be available as a piece of DLC. Let the saber battle that every rabid Star Wars fan wanted commence.

I should also point out IGN said their online experience was positive with only a few 'extremely brief moments of lag'. Let's hope that still holds true once the world jumps on board.

So Vader is in the 360 version? That's cool.

Can you change the skin color to crazy things like purple or gray? If so I was gonna try to make Thanos & Terrax. Problem is what weapon do you equip Thanos?

no hand to hand right? would be perfect with Heihachi's fighting style in SCII for Thanos. maybe try an axe.

Is Heihachi's style in SCVI? I'm asuming "no" since it wasn't in SCIII. I'm gonna use the Axe for Terrax so I don't want the same weapon with Thanos. To bad the Infinity Gautlet isn't a selectable weapon. :)

I Think I'll also try making Thor. Maybe not the Marvel version but just a rocked out, beastly Norse god of thunder with a huge fucking hammer.

Now I want to play the game just for the create a character.

ah yes, Terrax is the axe dude. are there any claw weapons? that would be good for Thanos. my copy should arrive today or tomorrow so i'll check out that feature too.

you should take some screenshots of your custom characters :)

IGN fails again. All the other opinions ive heard have Vader being clunky & suck while Yoda being spry & fun.

Well I have the LE. I tried to redeem my code for the exclusive content and it says code invalid. I think it might be a problem on their end though, I triple checked to make sure I had it right.

I heard Yoda kind of sucks too (Range is awful and his force bar dies too fast)

The Apprentice is a beast though. Namco sucks for not letting us give CAS the option to use lightsabers.

Looks like the LE's DLC is just... stuff that'll be up on PSN later... you just get a download code or something.

AKA: regular edition for me.

I got the regular version too... I was offered the PE when went to pick mine up just now. I was able to check out the manager's copy (he pulled out the discs so it was just the metal case, t-shirt, and artbook). It seemed like a rip-off.

I hope they don't try to hold me to picking up the LE (since that's what I preordered) when I go there, otherwise I'll just buy the LE and return it to them like a minute later.

Looks like codes just aren't activated yet on PS3.

Early reports indicate it is a Maid & Schoolgirl outfit for the ladies and Blazer & Schoolboy outfit for the gents. Plus it seems to unlock Soul Calibur/Edge right away.

I picked my copy up at lunch. Can't wait to play tonight!

I asked if they had any copies of the LE left and the guys working at gamestop gave me some schtick about how the limited edition was already going for "over $300" on ebay. um, yeah.

I didn't get the LE, the extra content wasn't worth $20 to me.

This happened to me once, got stuck buying a LE that had crappy extras. After that I'll never preorder anything LE again, unless I know it comes with some free beans & rice. That would be quite nice.

If this is true, the LE is 100000000% worth it to me.

I can't find anything about this online. Where'd you hear it? The statement that it "unlocks Soul Calibur right away" makes me believe it's just a rumor, as we all know that Soul Calibur is only on XBox Live and Namco would never give it away.

I think he meant Soul Calibur as in the sword within the game, not the game itself.

I played it a bit and explored the CAS... pretty good thus far, much more fun than SCIII was. I beat the story mode with Darth Vader and damn is he weird to use. I couldn't pull off any of his more complicated moves..:whistle2:|

Same with yoda but i was whoopin butt though. Anyone who wants to boost for achivements add me on xbl.

The game though is sweet I like the HD gfx, im still wondering how to pull off the insta kill moves I know u breat 3 pieces of armor then press all buttons but it doesnt work sometimes

That makes infinitely more sense. Thanks. :p

makes me glad it's hard to use. i thought people would be exploiting that for easy wins.

You are correct, I meant the weapons. :D

Yeah Vader felt weird at first. But the more I play him, the less slow he feels.
I was playing around with The Apprentice and got him to turn invisible... But I have no idea how I did it...
don't you have the move set available when you pause the game like with all the previous SC games?

I don't understand that either. I knocked off all the armor off and the orb thing (whatever it's called) was red- meaning I could do the move but when I pressed all 4 buttons it wouldn't work. I also tried the shortcut button (R1?) that pressed all 4, and that didn't work either.
WTF?!?

Where are all the PS3 LE's?
This might explain why... seems like the PS3 PE is the majority seller of all SCIV versions on Amazon. It could also resonate through the other versions as well.
