SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]

he just has better force moves, when you actually play him the meter is gonna be gone all the time...I don't think I've touched the meter while playing Yoda. Kinda bogus you cant customize the SW and Anime characters nor Algol.

Yoda vs. Yoda with the same costume online is hilarious. Half the time me and my buddy couldn't figure out which Yoda we were controlling, and he ended up ringing himself out twice with those crazy jumping moves.

I'm not much of a fighting fan, so it was nice to play against bosses that didn't use cheap tricks or rubber-banding (The Apprentice was the hardest I fought, but that's not saying much).

Does anyone know what kind of extra items you get in CAS with the LE DLC code you get in the game? Just wondering if its worth 20 bucks more. I mean it would have to have some pretty neat stuff for me to spend 20 bucks extra.
Wow thanks, not worth 20 bucks. ;)
But the LE was definitely worth the extra $10 ^_^.

Apprentice definitely wasn't that hard... I had more trouble with the fight before him (Mirsurugi) and Algol. I got him last night, it took me like 4 tries but Algol took me forever. It's like, once you're on the ground you cannot get up without losing half of your health in follow up attacks while you're trying to get up.

Ok so to setting a point with a friend do you ever unlock the jedi fighting styles so you can make a char that can use a lightsaber or are even their fighting styles locked down?

As far as we know, right now they're not unlockable.

Alright thats a dealbreaker for my friend. I think he was looking for an excuse not to get it anyway first it was no Vader on the 360 at launch then no ability to make his own sith lord. Nevermind you have the apprentice in there *shrug* oh well his loss.

That'd be a good idea... though especially right now, if anyone uses the Star Wars characters, you know they're a fuckin' scrub, so it should be easy to wipe the floor with them.

does the arcade mode have the difficulty settings like in SC1/SC2 or did they take it away like in SCIII? i havent opened up my copies yet.

lol, first character I picked online was Vader and I didn't lose. I only played for a bit, but he's not cheap and he's not terrible. I think you may underestimate how many decent Soul Calibur players actually like Star Wars and are willing to try the characters online.

Alls I know is that everyone I played against online yesterday who used one of those characters was a joke. And I played a lotta people.

Have to agree with Chac, most of the people online are scrubs. While there were a couple people I fought who knew what they were doing, most of the time it was just people flailing around on the controller. Not even doing combos or anything. Just hitting the buttons.

That's always going to be the case though. In an arcade, you're almost guaranteed to fight against people who know what they're doing or willing to learn.

Online play, everyone and their mother will sign up and use the service for free. You'll encounter a lot of bad players. And even those who are decent at fighting games, this may be their first entry into the SC series. Considering that this is the first online experience for SC, it's bound to happen.

I remember when playing DOA4 online, the disparity amongst players was enormous. All it means to me is that more people are enjoying the series, which I think is a good thing. Something SC4 might want to do, however, is create a ranking system LIKE DOA4 did so that you know what class of player you and your opponent are.

trust me, these weren't the types that were decent at fighting games. I basically just used most of them to learn to use GI, since I've never used that in prior games. I mean, when someone is clearly hitting triangle over and over and over, they deserve to get destroyed in the most disrespectful manner possible, and then taunted or beaten repeatedly after they lose.

lmao. I take it you were hitting G+K a lot? ;)
Yea and the star wars chars suck (cept apprentice)... -_-
Apprentice is clearly a very good character, though he's still definitely a button-masher's dream online. These people are easily dispatched.

Anyone on 360 experiencing a lot of lag? My bro is playin the 360 version. I'm on PS3 and getting a little lag here and there, but only like 1 out of 3 matches...and only a split second at the beginning or end of a match. Nothing out of the ordinary.

But my bro is getting a lot of lag. It's all over the place. It was constant through his 30ish online matches. I want to blame the connection, but we have separate identical broadband setups.

Seriously. I was fighting one guy, and the whole match I did the same 3 hit combo over and over. Nothing else. I wanted to see if he would eventually just block low! Sadly, I won the match...

I have a headset. I only use it for friend matches though.
Oh, but I've been meaning to ask, who's using a headset in the PS3 version? I dunno if I should pick one up finally or not.
I'm still waiting for my headset to come in. I bought one off of eBay a week or so ago for around $17, although I believe there might be a better deal in the Request a Deal forum. Jast BT125 is the standard Warhawk model.

I'm playing Kilik (who's been my secondary character but is now my main) and yeah, I just did the back + B move where you poke at your opponent and I won entire matches with just that.
ah, guess noone reads my questions. carry on...
I don't think you can change the difficulty for arcade. I couldn't find an option for it.

I'm not even going to attempt GI's online unless it is 100% needed (CF situation or unblockable)....

GI timing online will mess up my timing in real life lol.

The apprentice has one weakness - grabs. If you run up to him, hold down and block, he'll likely block too, leaving him wide open for a grab. That's how I beat him every time. If he wants to use cheap attacks, I'll use cheap grabs. He's a douche.

Re: the Apprentice--maybe the character you're using makes a difference, because I beat him fairly easily with Amy (I guess because she makes short quick strikes) but am having a really difficult time getting past him with Mi-na (custom viking Mi-na with that giant halberd.)

Well I got my PE content downloaded. Only thing is the download page for it says it is 108KB and the file size when it is downloaded is only 58KB. Is it like that on the 360 for anyone else? Also arcade mode it a bitch. As for beating the Apprentice I had no issue with him. I think with Yoda I lost once. After the 3rd stage I had a hell of a time trying to beat everyone but him.

See I was the opposite I think I beat everyone up "to" the apprentice then I lost to him like twice and algol once. Honestly I should of lost again to Algol but he did me a favor and rung himself out ^_^.
Not really analogous... 3D fighter speeds are different than 2D fighter speeds.

But I'd say it's closer to CVS2, becoz it's fairly fast.
Yea, that's another thing, I'mma have to get used to 3d aspect of it. KOF 2006 and Tekken 5 I played for a short time, but I've always had a thing for 2d fighters
My PS3 download was about 3mb.
Same for me on PS3. It might be a different system of doing the same thing. My guess is that it's 3 MB on PS3 because of the hard drive install so it's unlocking and adding to the hard drive install.

But on 360, it's unlocking from the content already on the disk for the weapons for sure. Probably the same for the school uniforms, much like they put "downloadable" songs on DDR Universe 360 and make you buy them to unlock.

I'm still waiting for confirmation that some of these costumes really are exclusive and not unlockable through play. Now that I've heard evidence to the contrary, I'm very torn.

.

You definitely won't be able to get them through play, but they're not exclusive to the PE, as they'll be regular DLC in the coming months.

really? SCIV still feels a bit slow... it's probably the slowest 3D fighter I've played in a while. if you compare SC1 to SCIV it's like speed vs. molasses. It's still fast, but noticeably slower.

Please don't make claims that are unconfirmed. You don't know that they'll be regular DLC down the road. You also don't know that you can't unlock them during play. A poster a few pages back stated that he had several of the "exclusive" gear by simply playing and unlocking them. You stating opinion as fact can lead to gross misinformation. Really, all it sounds like is wishful thinking.

And by the way, Soul Calibur 4 is very slow, in my opinion (not necessarily a bad thing). You don't really get a feel for how slow it is through watching video. Once you play it, though, it's immediately apparent.
